Do you have any questions about balancing the growth on your figs tree or trees? 🌱

Hi Craig, thankyou for a very interesting video. Is it too late to notch my young fig tree now or should I leave it for next year?

Hey @@minnoux where are you based? If in the Southern Hemisphere then now is still find headinto summer. If the northern hemisphere then wait until mid spring next year once the sap is flowing 🌱

Thank you for the video. I bought a few figs last year and I was thinking about pruning them soon. I'd like to get some figs soon but it sounds like it's better to first prune for the best open structure. This means a slight delay in harvesting the first figs, but in the long run it will be worth it. More branches will produce more figs.

100% yes! Putting in the effort now to get the best long term structure will yield much better crops that not sacrificing a season or two.
That being said, if you trunk shop, or aggressively prune, you should still be able to get a harvest as most figs product main crop on new growth. It won't be massive, but it will be something. You also won't get any of the Breba (first) figs as they grow on old wood, but that will come with the great new structure you are creating.
Wishing you heaps of figs in the future 🌻🌻🌻

    Hi,
I have a fig tree or rather a branch brought from abroad which I had planted into a pot in England, in July last year. The branch lost all its original leaves but then they regrew. Lovely green fig leaves, but come winter, frost they all fell off. Since then I kept it in a glass house and now with warmer weather I’m keeping it on the garden, in the pot. All I have is a single small branch, from the two.. Would you say it might be coming back to life? :) It seems to be strong in the roots but above the soil is only a single stick/branch which is green closer to the soil but the rest isnt. It’s only about an inch 1/2 tall.

Good set of questions you have there and thanks for taking the time to leave me your thoughts!
Fig trees are deciduous, meaning they lose their leaves over winter and if they don't they will be wasting a lot of energy as they need to rest and recover.
What you described here sounds like very normal fig behaviour through the seasons and I would suggest just letting it grow freely now that it is getting warmer. It needs to build up energy and also remember to remove any fruit you might see as it will waste energy when you want it to get bigger and get side branches and not fruit, at this early stage.
Hope this info is helpful for you 🌻
