Pizza Addict I’m so sorry for you I would end it all if I had an American accent like THEY SAY “are you from Ireland”but they pronounce it as Eirrrreland not arland
I love the Irish accent and would appreciate the conversation with an Irish native! 🙂 I find the Irish accent very attractive and captivating and appreciate the tonality and pronunciation of their words… I’ve heard the common stereotype pronunciations of the Irish, I wouldn’t dream of asking someone to say those things… People aren’t meant to entertain based on accent or culture.. They’re people and deserve respect and acknowledgment of their being… Being from Wales, I personally don’t get people asking me to speak Welsh or say Welshism’s, probably because we don’t stand out as much I guess… Got big love for the Irish though! 🙂 They’re nice people… 👊🏻👍🏻
Love the Irish too! When I read your: "People aren’t meant to entertain based on accent or culture.. They’re people and deserve respect and acknowledgment of their being…" I started to laugh. Because actually it came across, as if you were saying: "Children are humans too" or "Poodles are dogs too". We hardly recognize them as such, but we ought to respect them and acknowledge their being... So you basically did the exact opposite thing. You were derogative. And YES, I totally get, that you meant it the other way around :) It's so funny.

“Potato” Wtf why tho XD like imagine walking dont the street one one guy walks up to you and says “top of the morning, hurly, potato , saint patrick“. I would die laughing tbh
I have an Irish Potato story. my Irish great grandmother Caroline arrived in the USA through Ellis Island in the early 1900's. Her betrothed, my great grandfather, Joe was a legal resident alien who saved up money to send for her. There was a quota system back then, so they had to wait a few years to reunite. Anyway, there were vendors selling produce along the port. One was selling coconuts. So my grandmother looked at my grandfather and exclaimed, "Joe! Look at those big hairy potatoes". She never lived that down.
In the USA, circa 1998, I was asked if we had the internet in Ireland..... I worked in a summer camp (went there as a teen as a camper too, my stepdad was American) I was also told "Ireland, that's close to China, isn't it?" It is yeah! Fair play to YOUR geography teacher.... 😏
I've noticed a lot of Europeans tend to get frustrated when they hear us North Americans say we're Irish, British, German, etc. But I think the whole thing is a misunderstanding. When someone says "I'm [insert culture], most of the time that's just their way of trying to get to know you. Americans are very friendly with strangers, especially if they're foreign. And that's just them trying to learn about you and possibly their ancestors. I can't tell people how to feel their emotions but try to have patience and understand that we're not trying to offend you.
Arcane Heart Because America is a fairly new land to Non-native Americans and most people in America aren’t natives, I understand why you guys stick to the British, Irish, German, African-American thing to be honest, I’m English-born but I have 50% Irish blood and half of my family actually live in Dublin, Ireland. I’m not Irish, I’m English but identify as both, I still have Irish pride and want to move there.
I understand what you mean, but I think that while being very friendly with strangers it's important to notice the different between ancestry and culture. I think the people from the countries you talk to would prefer if you said "I have Irish/German/etc ancestry or relatives" instead of "I am Irish/German/etc" At least that's how I feel when I hear it
Arcane Heart I understand. I’m from the Netherlands and when I shear Americans say “I’m Dutch”, I know what they mean and I just let them tell their story. I think it’s interesting to hear about their heritage and what that connection means to them 😃
I hate it when you see an American at a Paddy’s day parade and they go up to you and tell you how their great grandmother was Irish so they think they’re Irish. It actually happens so much xD
I can’t wait to visit Ireland! I’m planning on going someday, as my great-grandmother was Irish through and through. I know how beautiful the land is as well. I’ll be there someday!
I'm an American of partial Irish descent, so obviously quite removed from being an Irish person on the Island and yet many of my fellow Americans still manage to assume stupid things such as me liking to drink being due to the Irish heritage. Also, although I do love going to hear some traditional music on St. Patrick's day, or learning a bit more Irish history, I live in great fear of the ignorant crowds with the Dr appt crappy green beer and lame plastic shamrock necklaces every March 17! Also, it's astounding how many Americans of Irish descent are perfectly happy to run around saying how Irish they are without even having an idea where on the island their ancestors come from.
I agree to that, I have both Irish and Polish ancestry, as well as German, Russian Norwegian, Pima and some Basque Spanish but I hate alcohol and can't even stand the taste of it. I also try to learn as much about where my ancestors came from as possible, though not Russia because they're jerks.

I'm as Irish as they come, and I moved to the US only recently, but I get to avoid all of the awkward questions because for some reason I have an American accent.
Pizza Addict I’m so sorry for you I would end it all if I had an American accent like THEY SAY “are you from Ireland”but they pronounce it as Eirrrreland not arland
Pizza Addict I didn't move to America but I'm from Dublin and I have an accent that's a mix of Irish and American
Pizza Addict maybe because your american?
You're Irish American then.
ChaSterio Exactly, they pronounce it I-are-a-land.
That's like Australians no one says "put another shrimp on the barbe" there called bloody prawns not shrimp
Michala Shaw EXACTLY! They're prawns not shrimp in Australia!!
Michala Shaw thank you
Ish loool I've actually heard this a couple of times. But it doesn't happen as much as people say it does
THANKS M8
District 9 has forever ruined people saying prawns to me. I cant hear it without hearing your mans accent
I love the Irish accent and would appreciate the conversation with an Irish native! 🙂
I find the Irish accent very attractive and captivating and appreciate the tonality and pronunciation of their words…
I’ve heard the common stereotype pronunciations of the Irish, I wouldn’t dream of asking someone to say those things…
People aren’t meant to entertain based on accent or culture..
They’re people and deserve respect and acknowledgment of their being…
Being from Wales, I personally don’t get people asking me to speak Welsh or say Welshism’s, probably because we don’t stand out as much I guess…
Got big love for the Irish though! 🙂
They’re nice people… 👊🏻👍🏻
Greetings from Eastern Europe, Britonic cousin! I love Cymru ❤️
I know this was 8 months ago but there are multiple accents not just one
Love the Irish too!
When I read your: "People aren’t meant to entertain based on accent or culture.. They’re people and deserve respect and acknowledgment of their being…" I started to laugh. Because actually it came across, as if you were saying: "Children are humans too" or "Poodles are dogs too". We hardly recognize them as such, but we ought to respect them and acknowledge their being... So you basically did the exact opposite thing. You were derogative. And YES, I totally get, that you meant it the other way around :) It's so funny.
Love the welsh accent, am a big fan of Catalonia and used to listen to interviews with Cerys Matthews just to hear her speak
I'm Irish but I'm dark skinned and people say I'm not Irish because of my skin color which is really annoying😑
ignore these eejits and there dinosaur ideas of what nationalitys look like mo chara☺
ignore them. That's so stupid
Jennifer Flores The typical Irishman has pale skin that does not tan. Not even a Mediterranean tan, just a standard European tan lol
That's because you're an African in Ireland, your family origins are not Irish.
It's simple, no matter what you look like. If you were born here, you're Irish. Don't listen to those gobshites.

Brenna doingcringythings ...are you ginger?
Skylar O'kane oh my gosh. Ginger is a kinda spicy plant that can be grounded into seasoning. Its pale yellow. The stigma about ginger being someone with red hair started from an old show with a red haired girl named Ginger sorry

Just practise swearing.
It's crazy how fast it gets toned down.
But I find as soon as the plane lands the accent is right back to what it was. Its so freeing to not have to make an effort to be understood.

Nacho Ethnically Irish. Technically anyone can be a citizen
Jessica Gleeson I consider myself 100% Irish because my dad was born in Ardoyne in Belfast and my mum was born in the Falls Road. I was born in Antrim which is kinda unionist protestant loyalist heavy but I was born in the Nationalist part.
Jessica Gleeson Yeah thats a really Good point. Slán go fóill 😁☘️
Does it count if both your parents are Irish but you were born in England?
"When is St. Patrick's Day? Bloody every day of the week" - LMAO
Add Aussies in these series and you have a grand one.

Alice O'Malley that lad isn't Asian he's just tanned (you can get tanned Irish people it's not cause they're foreign)
His last name is Indian...........
I had that experience in Armagh some years back. I phoned the youth hostel to reserve a bed and the ansaphone message sounded like Ian Paisley- really broad Ulster. When I turned up at the youth hostel the person responsible for the Ian Paisley impression turned out to be of Chinese heritage.
Geoff Poole Ian paisleys accent is nothing like an Armagh one his is ballymena

😂💀 I CAN'T BREATH!
I'm irish and I never heard any irish person say top of the morning to ya
I have an Irish Potato story. my Irish great grandmother Caroline arrived in the USA through Ellis Island in the early 1900's. Her betrothed, my great grandfather, Joe was a legal resident alien who saved up money to send for her. There was a quota system back then, so they had to wait a few years to reunite.
Anyway, there were vendors selling produce along the port. One was selling coconuts. So my grandmother looked at my grandfather and exclaimed, "Joe! Look at those big hairy potatoes".
She never lived that down.
I can't stop laughing! 😄
Arcane Heart
Because America is a fairly new land to Non-native Americans and most people in America aren’t natives, I understand why you guys stick to the British, Irish, German, African-American thing to be honest, I’m English-born but I have 50% Irish blood and half of my family actually live in Dublin, Ireland. I’m not Irish, I’m English but identify as both, I still have Irish pride and want to move there.
Lol Xd
I know lol
I understand what you mean, but I think that while being very friendly with strangers it's important to notice the different between ancestry and culture. I think the people from the countries you talk to would prefer if you said "I have Irish/German/etc ancestry or relatives" instead of "I am Irish/German/etc" At least that's how I feel when I hear it
Arcane Heart I understand. I’m from the Netherlands and when I shear Americans say “I’m Dutch”, I know what they mean and I just let them tell their story. I think it’s interesting to hear about their heritage and what that connection means to them 😃
I have never heard someone from the Uk cause i lvie here say that sorry but you are just wrong
Video Idea: 'What not to say to people with an invisible ilness'
Idk I think that might be a good idea
a good example would be 'Oh you're not disabled!' Or 'You don't need disability benefits! Stop wasting the money!'

I feel ye are appropriating my culture 😂 😂
I agree to that, I have both Irish and Polish ancestry, as well as German, Russian Norwegian, Pima and some Basque Spanish but I hate alcohol and can't even stand the taste of it. I also try to learn as much about where my ancestors came from as possible, though not Russia because they're jerks.
