Now I dye it copper, a red a little closer to brown than blonde ( I don't know exactly how to call that shade in english, being Brazilian, and all) and people are always asking me if that is my natural color.
I feel like another thing that can hurt gingers (coming from a ginger) is being told to never touch their hair or never dye/bleach it (or when stylists refuse to dye it) - your hair is something you can use to express yourself and that should apply to everyone, regardless of your natural hair color

In high school, I was in show choir. At one of the competitions, a critique judge told me in front of the entire choir, band, and everyone that I should look into dyeing my hair blonde or brown because those are “natural” hair colors (I was the only redhead in my choir at the time). I was shocked, but luckily my director came to the rescue and told the judge that that comment was rude.
As a teen I wished I was ginger so bad that I regularly dyed my hair from the darkest brown possible to all kinds of red. To be fair I also went pink, purple, green (tried to go blue but couldn't lighten my hair enough), and whatever combination of those I was feeling at the time.

Fellow redhead here! I used to find being called "ginger" offensive but now I've reclaimed it. It's amazing that I've been asked all these questions just because of my hair color! I'm scottish and both my parents carry the red hair gene and I have blonde hair with red undertones (which sometimes looks ginger in the sun) and I remember a complete stranger came up to me and had a full on argument with me about how they could tell I'm not a natural blonde because they can see the ginger coming through. The police were called by a someone near by because this complete stranger was trying to fight me .I was 12 then, I'm almost 18 now i still have nightmares

I looked into the eyes of a ginga many years ago and my soul was stolen. But that saying is only a half truth; my heart was also taken.
In high school, I was in show choir. At one of the competitions, a critique judge told me in front of the entire choir, band, and everyone that I should look into dyeing my hair blonde or brown because those are “natural” hair colors (I was the only redhead in my choir at the time). I was shocked, but luckily my director came to the rescue and told the judge that that comment was rude.
I have had that same comment in a band competition but my director did not say anything to the judge

As a teen I wished I was ginger so bad that I regularly dyed my hair from the darkest brown possible to all kinds of red. To be fair I also went pink, purple, green (tried to go blue but couldn't lighten my hair enough), and whatever combination of those I was feeling at the time.
