Sonic Frontiers with adaptative music gameplay

- What if Sonic Frontiers music depends on your actions?
In this video I experimented with adaptative music with the gameplay shown these days
Basically I made 4 differents levels of intensity
Level 1: Exploring, mostly walking
Level 2: Running, doing an action
Level 3: Boosting, max speed
Level 4: Enemy fighting
I think this way you have the best of both worlds, calm music for exploring around, and the great upbeat music Sonic is known for.

hey man can you make avideo but just the back ground music this sounds amazing, apply for sega
I will join
Please everybody share this to sega now immediately or this masterpiece idea will never happen.
@@Adrenahedge X2
@@Adrenahedge I completely agree. It will show an amazing effort you put into this.
This is legitimately a million times better through and through. Sonic music needs that energy and you nailed it!
Thanks Pup!!

Really didn’t expect such a subtle change would make all the difference. This sounds great!
Such a subtle change of actually listening to music instead of a track over the videos!
People underestimate the importance of a good soundtrack in games. The Ost can make or break a game.
Ditto.
This actually makes it feel more like a game somehow
Adaptive music is pretty much a must for any action game, ESPECIALLY in an open world!
SEGA hired that man...when they should have hired *THIS MAN*
This is so well executed my guy! Very nice!
Thank you my friend!
Tomoya Otani is a legendary musical artist so I can't let this comment slide. But yeah the music is really good here.
Do not forget that it takes your time and the approval of the managers in addition to the fact that the issue seems to have been put above...
If this is the PSO2 NGS engine they already have sophisticated contextual music blending system so I'm sure the final game will have it. You've made an awesome manual one!
sega shouldn't approve someone, only if the guys wants to be approved he will probably do anything to accomplish that
Wow, this sounds fantastic! It's crazy how much more "Sonic" the game's score feels simply by adding drums and guitar. By the 2 minute mark I was actually sad this wasn't the official music.
It's a bummer we haven't gotten truly adaptive music in a Sonic game since Generations. I remember Green Hill Modern and Sky Sanctuary Modern both had a backing drum track that would fade in the faster you were running. I have no clue why they haven't brought that back in newer games.
Fun fact: the music you hear in the official trailers were added in post. Which means we’ll probably hear *something* slightly more dynamic down the line.
At least there’s one thing you can almost never doubt SEGA on, it’s their music scores.
@@NeonBlueLight Thank Jun Senoue and Tomoya Ohtani for that.
It’s adaptive music like this that makes me appreciate it in Nintendo games as well as their approach to said music.
I would _love_ to see dynamic music in the same vein of _Breath of the Wild_ since the OST for that game is so smartly composed (with composers Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata, and Hajime Wakai using minimalism to great effect). This new world for Sonic is a great time to experiment with the musical technique, similar to _Unleashed,_ _Generations_ (as you mentioned), and _Sonic ‘06._ Very little of the game’s soundtrack has been heard, but hopefully that’ll change by the end of this month (June 2022 for anyone reading this in the future).
_Sonic Frontiers_ isn’t looking great, in my opinion, and may just end up being yet another mediocre _Sonic_ game with Morio Kishimoto at the helm as director. Nevertheless, I hope Tomoya Ohtani and Jun Senoue produce yet another amazing soundtrack that’s befitting of the Starfall Islands and a bop outside of the game as well.
@@IronBlaze77 I love the simultaneous love and appreciation for art (and artists) pouring from your comment.
@@megamillion5852 Why, thank you. I find video game music in particular to be quite underrated and under appreciated, especially when it comes to the composer(s) involved in creating the tracks for said video game.
Video game music is a passion of mine (as you can no doubt tell) and I’m glad you enjoyed reading my comment.
If this doesn't make it into the full game, i want a mod of this
Don't worry, the community's got you covered on that
Modding is gonna be crazy for this.
Absolutely 💯 If I ever decide to pick up this game, this would be one of the first things I'd want to change.
Modders are gonna have so much fun with this game lol
Mods always save the day
This works so well, I didn’t really agree when people were saying the ost should be super hyper and fast paced like sonic games usually are because of the drastic change in tone the open world gives off. But this keeps the peaceful melody while keeping sonics cool vibe to it. The best of both of worlds tbh
I love this so much. it's almost like Sonic is putting his own influence on the more calm nature of this new island he finds himself on.
PERFECT
não esperava te ver por aqui, Virsu
So there are 3 shifts:
Calm.
Exploring.
Action.
Love it. :)
That is probably the mood of the game
It's been over a year, and wouldn't you know it? Someone actually made an Adaptive Music mod. Of course, it's more of a proof of concept than anything of what's shown hear, but it's still worth checking out. For anyone intereseted, as of writing this, it's up in the current SHC Expo
This is the mix of rock & roll and classical music I wanted from this game. During intense moments or fast-paced moments, you feel like Sonic, you feel the epicness of classical and rock music. When you are calm and slow, the music is the same.
YOOO I LOVE THE IDEA OF THIS! Still holding out hope that we have something like this implemented into the game, if not in the overworld I'd love to see an adaptive soundtrack when entering combat. Either way great work as always!
Freaking amazing! Really hope they do something like this in the final game 🙏🏾
Thank you my friend!
Hey temzy
Sounds so good!
Thanks!!
Adding those groovy hi hats and riffs makes it sound like something out of Black Knight. Good job!
Yep. Which is closer to how everyone thought the "feel" of the game would be.
I feel like there should be an entirely separate 5th level for when you fight a colossus, where the music goes all out, pumping you to fight the big robot.
Frontiers is a really mysterious game that leaves me dumbfounded when I consider where the game is going and look at this last showcases, but, independent of what it's going for, I want to believe that it will have a good soundtrack, no matter what comes out of it.
Edit: I almost forgot. This compositions are great. They should be official.
Jun Senoue is working on the soundtrack
It will be a banger 100%
@@arahabakihakai4177 here’s hoping 🤞
Hope is revived today
@@arahabakihakai4177 Jun only helped engineer it, he didn't write a single note for this game.
The additions make a huge difference, it gave me chills to hear this.
It sounds precious and brings a livelier atmosphere to the gameplay!
Fucking brilliant! Percussion and extra instrumentation will always do wonders!
You guys totally need to do a collab, that would be 🔥
@@Temzy you think??? They should
That's pretty cool! I was thinking about how SPiderman does the dynamic music where the song sounds like it actually ends and picks up. Not sure how that would work here. Maybe cutting up different sections and having small intros and outros for when you start and stop moving.
Anyhow, this is great and I wish the game had this.
I mean Falk (who works in the industry) already shown his proof of concept for this on rooftop run almost a decade ago.
It works in normal sonic stages great let alone open world.
I love the fact that it the dynamic music for moving quickly not only was different from the main one, but each situation subtly changed it in notable ways. The combat track being different from the "speed pad" running track, for instance.
Oh my gosh, this is so much better. The piano melody is lovely, but made me feel so sleepy while watching.
I love this lol. I love it when music is dynamic and this just proves why. it gives the world so much more life and it allowels for a game to be adjusted to several activities and vibes in one theme.
God, now I'm just imagining a vocal track being added to the mix for boss/enemy encounters too and I REALLY wish it was actually in the game 😩
Dude, YES! That would be freaking perfect 🎶💜🎶
I need all four of these versions as separate youtube videos!!!
I like the idea of how the music alters depending on how fast Sonic is going or if engaged in combat! Nice work!
Bro this makes the game feel more fun! they neeeeed to do this
Man this would make frontiers feel more dynamic and alive in the open zone, open zone is great but honestly sometimes its feels empty or even incomplete, adaptative music would be an awesome quality change
yo, it's so good! Now THAT is sonic music we all waited for! Btw I kinda have vibes of sonic and the secret ring ost on 3 level of intensity, "High and Broken" in particular.
Ngl hearing the guitar with the orchestra gives me Bruce Faulconer dbz type of vibe.
Which is freaking awesome.
Yeah, the piano behind the guitar sounds just like the distinct style Faulconer would use.
I like this a lot because it like encourages yk actually going fast and fighting enemies even more. Hopefully sega is going to take more time to listen to feedback. But as a sonic fan all we do is hope
This feels like dmc5, you try to be stylish to turn up the music. In this game it would have the same effect but with momentum rather than style
Really interesting comparison. I've heard many people say they should take some more inspiration from series like DMC for this, and this a pretty solid way to do that.
This is something I've always wanted in a Sonic game, thank you so much
I mean... Its in Sonic generations, its just a bit more subtle
@@thedead073 True. Though only with two modern tracks. Hoping this game will incorporate it again
Very nice, glad to see i wasn't the only one who saw that adaptive music was a far better option
Excellent work! I know this request has been asked a few times in this comment section, but I would really love to see a full version of these exact remixes from this video once the game & its OST comes out.
Thanks!! I guess I will becouse is so requested :D
i never thought of this, but this is a briliant idea! i love it!
My dude you have done a stellar performance. You understand the music of Sonic and how he operates well into this game in your way. Mad respect 👍😉
4:00 I need an extended version of this part in my life so much, I got really hyped when the guitars started playing at this moment.
Its so good
I like how you simulated the delay. With this kind of gameplay it makes sense there should be a relatively long window of time before the game "decides" you're not doing actions that'd trigger the guitar anymore.
Thanks for noticing it!
THANK YOU! It is PERFECT! PERFECT!
I love this!! While the original music sounded nice, this sounds so much more engaging and exciting and...Sonic-y. Really hope SEGA will end up going this direction with the music. I don't feel like it'd be that hard to implement! Super cool idea, awesome editing and arranging!
Its always the small things that can make a game great.
Incredible. Such an improvement.
Something i love doing while playing video games is weirdly acting like i’m playing a trailer or some cool cinematic sequence and adaptive music is perfect for that
I knew this game needed an adaptive soundtrack. Running around at the speed of sound while a calming piano piece plays didn't sit right with me. Great job on this! SEGA take notes! Lots of them. And then delay the game.
Brilliant idea.
I'll be frank, the sudden repetitive transitions between levels 1-3 feel very awkward. Maybe they should be slower? Other than that, this is a (near) perfect solution to a few "BOTW" complaints I came across. Let's make this more popular so the team can see this and go like "well that's a good idea" and make it happen.
I imagine all movements for each island with these 4 adaptions, depending on your actions, it would be so cool and immersive
Each Island would have 28 tracks
Which means all the island would have 92 tracks (considering that both Rhea and Ouranos Island just have 1 song)
I love how these sound, It's really a big difference to look at the gameplay with the music
Oh man, I wasnt expecting this adding this much to the game, nice stuff
My god, your channel is literally a ticking timebomb. You are going to BLOW UP DUDE! Extremely talented, please keep uploading!! :,)))
30 seconds in and i was obsessed. and it just kept getting better
This is honestly perfect. Thank you so much.
Oh man... This is the real game! Fans ARE the real Sonic Team! Subscribed! ❤🔥🎧
Ok, this is just incredible.
I wish someone of SEGA see this.
I've missed this idea since Generations! They never did this any game afterwards, nice job man!
Wow man. You rock. Wish you could get them to add this in, its actually badass I'm not playin
perfectly executed!!! this would make the game 10x better
Adaptive music is one of the things that only games can do and there is a good reason to do it! Great work showing why it's important
This works especially when you encounter a enemy, I like the tensity of the music goes while sonic is in motion.
Dude i'd love to listed to each version individually this is god tier material, you didn't only nailed it, you knocked it out of the park!
Now this is the kind of music I expected to hear in the game. BRAVO!!! 👏
I’m one of the few people that still have hope for the game, but this is sick. Hell of a job
This, this makes it loads better
honestly I had hoped for adaptive music to be in the final product to begin with. As much as I'm a fan of calm and serene tones, this is still Sonic so it needs SOME kinda "oomp!" for the times he go wild!
This is really cool, it blends in so well
This is so epic! The titanic boss part with the melody of the main theme really hits the spot, good job
People are talking about delaying the game for quality purposes but forget that shit, delay the game so we can get an adaptive rock orchestra soundtrack in this game
If someone can somehow mod adaptive music like into the game that'll definitely be how I'll play it cause this is dope
The original Frontiers trailer really felt like they just plopped Sonic into some random open world that any character can belong in for a tech demo. But this actually makes it feel like Sonic belongs in this world. Music is literally half of a MP4. So it's no surprise that it can make this much of a difference
man i'd love to see this added as a mod
Me ascending to this OST.
With such an active modding community, this must become a reality at some point, do you have any idea what potential this would have in gameplay?
*GASP! He did it! He did the thing I suggested!
The music was just added while editing so we don't really know what it will be like in-game. This is cool and I would love to have adaptive music, but not everywhere. Like when fighting enemies or climbing the tower is absolutely great, but it would be annoying to have while just moving around and stopping when you slow down. It would ruin the atmosphere imo. Anyways, great job man! The difference some drums and guitars can make is crazy!
Music based on your momentum and speed... I love that idea
Are you gonna release these tracks or covers as stand-alone videos? Im really really digging the Battle and Boss music you did
This is truly excellent work!
I am in love with this. I think this would rock my head hard and then get carried away from the enemies haha
I was just saying how I missed the wherehog battle music from Unleashed because the fights in the trailer were boring with just calm piano music.
Nice job!
Lovely idea and realisation dude, props
Yeah this is what I was hoping for out of the game soundtrack. I really really hope they do this in the game. Beautiful work man, beautiful work 😎
Would definitely make the open world worth exploring. Good one!
He got the purple coins sound right lol
having an adaptive soundtrack like doom would be sick
Have you considered branching outside of Sonic music? I know more than a few songs that would lend well to the Sonic Guitar treatment...
Never thought about it yet but I'm interested to listen to your suggestions
if you guys are collabing then i'm deff keeping an eye out. i get a feeling that the two of you could make history on this website
God, I really wish they did this! The music adapting to become more rock and roll styled as more action happens is such a great idea, and it would have fit perfectly had Sonic Team decided to do what you did instead of having the music never changing and staying calm for the entire gameplay showcase.
That's what I expect from this game in terms of OST. it would be amazing
I love your work, I’ve been listening to this soundtrack while working in loop for hours! I really hope you will consider posting it without the sound effects from the trailer, because it feels so beautiful and energetic that I would love to listen the track without getting distracted! Apart from that, congratulations for your really awesome work, can’t wait to listen more from you 💙💙
You know this concept was a thing for a game called Transfomers Armada (Ps2). Where the music of a stage changes depending what your doing.
For example your standing in a middle of a field with no enemy’s the music is calm and atmospheric.
The music gets a tense full version of the song when your getting close to enemy, but once you get spotted, You go into a battle version and fight for your live.
Honestly? I think this works, maybe there could be an extra addition depending if you're going on rails as an arpeggio, which syncs with the music depending on how fast you're going.
Congratulations on 2k
Even though i’m a bit nervous, I am hoping this game can be saved. I've been looking forward to it since the first trailer dropped, and I hope Sega can fix some of the main issues with this game. I am pretty confident that Ian Flynn is going to do well with the story tho :>
That actually would fit, when he is going fast or on action based sections the music pumps up, and when he slows down it would be more calm
Now this is what I'm talking about!
Great job man! :)
This is a very cool idea
And it sounds so good:)
m a n really shows how a little change of music makes an entirely different experience 😔
This makes me appreciate games that take the extra mile with adaptive music even more hoo boy
Even though this wouldn't fit with the mysterious vibes this game wants to give, a change like this in the music would be a great addition
So basically an all encompassing dmc style meter adaptation? Anyone who played dmc knows what i mean.
This sounds really good. Let's be honest though Sonic rarely fails to deliver on the music so I am sure they will do a decent job whatever they have planned as the current music is probably just the menu music and the music in the finished version will be quite different.
This is freaking AMAZING!
I wish this was final in the actual game
Marvel Spider-Man did this and it was so sick.
I hope they do this... doubt they will.
But it's very very interesting to see what could've been!
