    For an automatic 0-60 7.7 seconds is plenty quick! He said it's one and a half seconds slower than the manual. So the manual 0-60 = 6.35 seconds... Not slow at all for a not so pricey NA!

      1 and a half means 1.5, so 6.2

    Yeah the 2017 86 and Brz run 0-60 in 6.2 1/4 mile in 14.7 for the manual ones with the new final drive ratio. There pretty quick!

    i was hurt on the job and became disabled, im unable to drive a manual any more. this video was helpful and insightful for me
    i know a large amount of people who just are not interested in getting a manual transmission car for what ever reason
    there are performance oriented people and then there are the vast majority of regular automobile buyers

    This car is grate after you do a few things like tune, rims and tires, lower final drive ratio, springs, sway bars, exhust if you want, and intake. That makes this car a lot of fun

    in the usa something like 95% of all new cars are auto's. I think in this car though there will be more manuals sold than auto's but there is still a few auto's getting around, probably like 35% or so.

    I am 6-5 200 pounds. I have legroom and headroom in the BRZ. 95% of the time I am driving I am going back and forth to work or picking up grocery's. I am not snatching 2nd and drifting sideways at that point. Most WRX and Z drivers are just as responsible on public roads. Yes I take the long way home sometimes. That is when the brz shines. Driving down a winding back road at 45 mph in the middle of 5th gear is when the BRZ outperforms any of the cars you mentioned. It's "fun" My avg is 33 mpg.

    The Scion is a good buy but for $1,200 more you can get the base brz. It only adds HIDs and a nav. It is far more exclusive than the FRS.

  • @76carmel

    Another reviewer tested the FR-S automatic, and still liked it, and has paddle shifters just like the BRZ. However, sports car purists prefer the manual transmission, and I'd prefer the manual like yourself.

    This car is $27k, for $29k you can get the WRX wiith 70 more hp that is also AWD and has three more seats. This car is good but not for the price. Should be like $22k

      The BRZ have a better chasis as is RWD.
      BRZ is a Sport car. Have a better chasis, better balance than a WRX
      RWD is much more fun to drive than 4WD
      Three more seats. Who is buying a sport coupe is not looking for seats.
      Not all in the car world is Horsepower
      Why the people cant understand ?

    • @ConsciousRobot
      @ConsciousRobot 5 років тому +1

      The WRX is far less attractive, and far less reliable. Even with less power, I'd rather have an FRS or BRZ because it's far more attractive and with some basic aftermarket performance bolt-ons it can be made sufficiently powerful enough to be an incredibly fun and reliable car, which it already is despite not being super powerful. A good car isn't always about big hp numbers. This car was engineered to be fun and practical with perfect balance and stellar handling and driver feel. It has a lot of potential and is a wonderful platform for tuners.

    • @ConsciousRobot
      @ConsciousRobot 5 років тому

      The only thing the BRZ has on the WRX is looks. It's one of the more attractive cars on the road so it's unfortunate they didn't give it more power. That said, I think I would still choose the BRZ over the WRX because I can modify it for more power, and because it's not ugly like the WRX. The BRZ may be lacking in horsepowee but it has everything else going for it, and it is basically a perfect tuner platform.

    Mustangs are good, but any BR-Z or FR-S will dance around any Mustang and get better gas mileage. I'd love to buy and FR-S and the Mustang, but if I had to chose only one, it'd have to be the FR-S.

    If it was a Toyota it would be 2 to 3k more and the dealers would load it with options and they would not met production goals. Mr Toyota did the right thing making it a scion. It is the cheapest version of the car in the world. It only comes one way for under 25k.

    On the street they are awesome! Drive the car before you judge it. The Japanese just are not that great at stopping cars. The Z's brakes are sad. My last 2000 Celica GT had the worst brakes I have seen on a modern car. Slotted and drilled front rotors solved the problem. If you want nice binders American or better German is the way to go.

    The STi sucks gas at twice the rate of the BRZ has turbo lag and understeer on dry pavement. The Z is to dam heavy for its size and you must be 5-9 or less to really get comfortable in it. It weighs 400 pounds more than the BRZ and you feel that weight. It also cant stop. To much motor for the braking system.

    Overall fail. Costs too much underpowered. If this was sold at $20k they would have a top seller worth the money. The car sits really low and there is no lumbar support. Uses premium fuel something alot of reviewers forget to mention. Good car just costs too much for what it offers. WRX is a better deal.

    "bringing the return to the pure sports car type to the market"
    I know they have to make interesting sound bites, but the MX-5 Miata is still here.
    Lighter, cheaper, a pure two seater instead of a compromised 2 + 2.
    I like the FRS and BRZ, but they only sound really special when you ignore the already around MX-5 Miata.

    Cool car. Pretty small. Way overpriced. Dealers have a $3k+ markup. Handles pretty good but not spectacular. They talk about the handling cuz thats all they can talk about. The auto is ridiculously slow. The stick is better but for the money go get a wrx. The wrx is faster more room more versatile and costs the same.

      Sadly as a person who learned how to and was raised driving rear wheel drive cars in a Midwest state with winter…. It would sit during icy weather. Fun as it is in a parking lot…drivers around you in the snow are a lot less trustworthy in bad weather than the old days. With phones and misleading all wheel drive which does not include all wheel stop.

    Who's into going fast and cares about gas mileage at the same time?, so that is irrelevant. Sure if you're a big fat ass giant you can't fit in any car, im 250 5'8 and fit in a Z just fine. Just like i been saying this "drivers car" has the same stats as most 4 banger family sedans, so its a flop in my eyes. I'd rather have a 2013 3.5 Altima be wayyy faster and still get 31 MPG, dont even need a 370Z to compete with this.

    I put myself in the Genesis Coupe camp based on having seeing both cars in the showroom. This car is a big disappointment. It's underpowered, expensive for what you get(or don't get) and rather unrefined and insubstantial-feeling. The interior quality is abysmal, even for a sports car. The stereo head unit is ridiculous with far-too-small buttons and no redundant wheel-mounted controls. About the only good thing about this car is its seating position, low but still comfortable to see out of.

    • @HakeemKazak
      @HakeemKazak 10 років тому +7

      The Genesis Coupe is a good car but you're crazy for putting down the FR-S/BRZ. I test drove both of them, and while I really loved the power of that V6 Lambda, everything else about the car was very mediocre to me for the whole driving experience. I ended up getting the FR-S and it has been a fantastic experience. The FR-S/BRZ was still a bit cheaper than the Genesis Coupe for me, especially after taxes and other fees the dealers slap on, the price was just a tad more expensive than what a Miata would have cost me. If you were looking for power, the Mustang or Camaro is a much better deal for HP. What you are paying for the FR-S/BRZ is the best coupe chassis on the market under $40,000 USD brand new of course. Plus, the FR-S/BRZ has a much nicer manual and automatic gearboxes than the ones on the Genesis, the balance is more neutral, and not to mention is also 500-800 pounds lighter depending on which engine you have in the Hyundai. As far as interior quality, yes the FR-S/BRZ is nothing special but how is the Genesis Coupe any better? At the very least, the FR-S/BRZ gets all the good parts right, leather covers the doors at the right spots where you would normally touch, has arguably the best stock bucket seats for any coupe around that price, perfect driving position (as you mentioned) and steering wheel, and for me the layout of the gauges is perfect, analog tach + digital speedo right in the middle. All the coupes I test drove under $30,000 all had shitty interiors IMO. The Genesis Coupe had a much more refined looking interior, yes design wise, but the fitment was still super mediocre at best, hard plastics everywhere and the interior added no real additional benefit for me except looking just a tad more developed, that's it. By the way, the FR-S/BRZ headunit design was made to just be easy to swap out so no external buttons connecting to it which also made it really easy for me to install a sub. Both good cars either way.

    • @pontiacGXPfan
      @pontiacGXPfan 10 років тому

      I test drove both stick and auto versions of the Gen and the Sciobaru twins likely have a better clutch/shifter combo(which could be due to the undertorqued boxer engine). Because I would have to drive my car every day I look at features/amenities as well as performance and in that area the Gen is clearly superior. That and the added bonus of being able to pass slower cars going uphill as well as being able to powerslide through corners. Of course, it is heavier and is now being pushed upward to compete with the aging Infiniti Q60 coupe.
