The process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for commiting thought-crime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. . . . It fits just about every time I think. Four years ago it would perfectly have fit to the election of donald trump, it would fit to BLM protests. Hell it would even fit into the mindset of coronacritics, gendercritics and, to sum it up it would generally fit anyone who has a strong sense against anything happening because over all it is just agitation. Though specifically you could frame it around anticapitalism concerning industry (air unfit to breath) and (fast) food industry (food unfit to eat) as well as of course economic crisis and the precarity it means for lower classes. I do not know the context of the film, but Id like me a rather marxist reading of this.

If you arent as mad as hell, you havent been paying attention.
Saw this one a plane in 1976 (that was back when the cabin lights dimmed, the big screen came down, and everybody watched the same film. It was a movie theater in the sky!). This movie's really amazing -- it accurately prophesied the onset of reality TV 25 years before it happened, and the inevitable future of television - bleak as it is.
One of the top 3 greatest film achievements of all time!
Did anyone get up and yell those eternally apt lines?
Seriously, did no one even chat about it or give knowing glances?

Greatest piece in Hollywood history. He deserved the Oscar.
"We know things are bad. Worse than bad. They're CRAZY."
There's something cathartic about that. That's when it goes from "everything sucks and we're depressed" to "everything's WRONG and we need to DO SOMETHING about it!"
Such a great scene. Appropriate for what is going on in the world today.
So true. - -
BUT FIRST, you've GOT to GET MAD!!! You've got to say, "I'm a HUMAN BEING, GOD-DAMN IT!! MY LIFE HAS VALUE!!!"
I had a tear in my eye when I watched this and realized how much freedom we've really lost in the last 20 years

Id not heard of this film until sometime in the 1990s when I stumbled across it on TV one night, this scene always stuck in my mind. Years later I watched it and realised the significance of the film as a classic
Had a fraternity brother in late seventies who could do this entire scene from memory, with all the histrionics, and did during one of our Sunday evening chapter meetings. The entire fraternity (80+ members) was chanting "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take this anymore." One of the best moments of my college career...

Infu-p We do not take the Lord's name in vain, I will say FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS ALL DAY!! But that is one thing I will not do!
Stewie Griffin Shut up, Meg.
+Stewie Griffin its not takng the lords name in vain. its speaking it into existence. the power of your words. its a prayer of righteous anger. a call unto the lord. seeking the righteous hand of vengeance onto the wickedness in the world.
+Todd Bettenhausen you censoring yourself makes me think about this;
“Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thought-crime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed by eactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten. . . . The process will still be continuing long after you and I are dead. Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller. Even now, of course, there's no reason or excuse for commiting thought-crime. It's merely a question of self-discipline, reality-control. But in the end there won't be any need even for that. . . . Has it ever occcured to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?.....The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect.” ― George Orwell, 1984
So fuck you and your selfcensoring.

What great acting. 1976, he died of a heart attack January 1977, aged just 60. He doesn't look that overweight, he actually looks quite fit.
Always quite worrying.
Network came out in 1975. And it is sad the realize that the same things Howard Beale was talking about then are the same things that need addressing now. Sad to realize that we haven't made any progress in 40 years.
+jrc156street Murder rate in the US has halved over the last 40 years...
+Sean Wordingham .. That's only because democrats took over all the major cities and ran them all into the ground in the 1960s and 1970s. The murder rates in the 1950s were lower than today.
+Ana Castellano there are plenty of cities run by Democrats for years, such as in Oregon and Washington and west Virginia where the violent crime is very low. You can't just blame democrats.

Haha we haven't made progress looooong before that
This is more true now than ever before.
After watching this back in 1976, I finally understood the purpose of media, and immediately discovered the country and world that we actually live in. My life plan was then based upon the discovery of finding passion and truth in Nature, and no longer in humanity. I also learned my favorite humans shared that same resonance with me.
I just shouted this out my window and I'm getting very strange looks from my neighbours.

This is more valid today than ever. 4/15/2020 It's almost prophetic.
Not really. It's actually just very generic
