Hello mate like your videos, I’ve been second fixing and chipping away for 30 years or more. I’ve always made a jig out of some architrave for all three buts. And use it for door and frame. Because I’m tight 🤣. Always been a 6 And 9 man and one in the centre of the two. By putting the strip on the side it will prolong the life of my jig. Never even considered it. Everyday a school day.👍 Down side I’ll now need 2. That’s Sunday sorted.
Cheers David, Excellent wee jig! The shop bought versions are usually megabucks and not really worth it, when you can make your own from offcuts of laminate flooring or, as you have done, from kitchen splashbacks.👍
Hi yes and I must say being in the building trade I do use these jigs a lot and they save me so much time and as you mentioned it's very cheap to do, that's for watching
@@dmgladden Just completed a job using your modified jig...What a timesaver! Leaves really clean professional finish in a fraction of the time of using a hammer and chisel! Now for a jig to install the latch and strike plate! Thanks for sharing.👍
Hi mate, do you use a flush trim bit with top bearing? Or do you use a bush guide? As a bush guide would require a bigger cut out, wouldn't it ? Cheers. Great idea!!!
Sensible David . I have been using your 2nd version for over 35 year. I can put 3 together along the door and use a longer batten against door But I don't cut it out before hand the first cuts with router will cut exactly the depth on batten (no tare out) Since the batten is referenced of the front side of door (as in upgrade jig) i can now put jig on frame as it is same reference as I am sure you realised when you did it. I cannot believe the profit some companies make from selling mdf jigs at a rough estimate I can get 250 gigs out of a new sheet @25 pounds a pop thats 6250 quid not bad for a days work
Hi David yes it's a easy win to make and sell them I can never be bothered with that side of things I just make for my use also I use multi panel with last a lot longer even if it gets wet no probs but a sheet is around £100
Hi Marc, thanks yes it's saved me a ton of time as well as do all the jigs I use, it's always good if you have to repeat the same thing over and over to make a jig. I'm from Bradford West York's but having been in the Army I lived in Amy places in the UK
@@dmgladden My grandma was from Keighley not far from Bradford...I lived in Meltham near Huddersfield but near Blackpool now!! Keep up the good work on vids I really enjoy watching them and you explain things well 👍
Hi Kevin thanks for the comment yes I will be doing a last look at the van very soon and as it will be replaced soon I need to do it all again and ask for ideas from every one on what could be better
Surely if your using a a 40mm+ door you should be using a 4”/100mm hinge not a 3”/75mm hinge so you had it right the first time. Personally I have two jigs set up for both standard and fire door but full length of the door rather than moving it for each hinge.
Hi i understand what your saying and your right but what i was meaning by any thickness of door was meant more as slight thickness changes not ones that would merit a change in hinge size just i overemphasized the thickness of door
Hi David. You have recently invested heavily in upgraded DeWalt tools but seem to still prefer to use your Makita gear. Is this from habit or preference? Nice upgrade BTW mate 👍
Hi Neil no I got a set to try at work and after about a week I went back to my Dewalt thou much older still out performing and so I retired the Makita set to the workshop where they will never need to do such heavy work and now that I've got them I'm adding bare tools to them like I just got a saw and I'm looking at a planner but Dewalt for me is the best
Great video as always but only point I would raise is why do you slam everything about? To have it loud enough to hear what you say means it sounds like Juno Beach on D Day with all the hand claps and box banging. My poor dog has just got up and walked out. Cheers chief, I am not moaning honest just an observation 👍👍👍
Hi really sorry its offended you but in shock i have just played it again as no one else has mentioned this so i wanted to hear for my self and i have to say what you are hearing is a result of my bench being a very large acoustic box and putting things down on it does sound loud but i am so used to this i never give it a second thought, but i will try in future if i remember to put things down a bit softer and see if that helps, but also now that i am using a remote mice it should be much better lets see.

As a diyer I am going to make this jig. Many thanks for good advice.
Your welcome and thanks for watching
The thicker door fire door uses a bigger hinge so that should’ve worked!

This is brilliant. Got a few doors I need to hang using heavy duty Grade 11 hinges, and this has made my life easier. Thanks again, mate! 👍
Thanks Mykel please let me know how you find it and if any improvements could be made

Omg I love this, this is dope
Hi mate, can I ask what thickness is the wood you used to make the router jig?
Hi Jason yeah it's 10mm ply but very strong as it's bathroom wall board

Hi David, great informative video, and another subscriber, so do you have 2 sizes of this jig, 1 for 75mm and 1 for 100mm hinges?

good vid again why dont you do a tour of the van year after you did it stay safe

Use a 100mm hinge on 44mm doors
correct
Hi Dave you don’t half make me laugh how you Chuck stuff about lol
lol but i never brake a thing that's the key to it
Thicker door. Bigger hinge
