More than anything, I wish Casio would give us a premium A168 with an actual stainless steel body, upgraded crystal, and maybe a little love for the bracelet. The A1000 came close but came in weird colorways and doesn't have the same charm. Maybe one day the aftermarket will tackle it, like they have with gshock squares and the casio royale.
I got this watch for my Dad on his 2021 birthday. He used to visit Japan in 1970s and it reminded him of his early twenties. He is 73 now. Its a brilliant watch !!
I love seeing you cover budget watches like this Teddy. You show appreciation for watches of all types and at all price categories. That's why I subscribe! Great work...keep it coming!

I have one of these, and I’ve worn it as much as my Speedmaster professional. No one ever looks or says anything about the omega, but the gold Casio gets commentary everywhere, overwhelmingly positive too.
It's a great watch but I don't believe you. I have worn all sorts of watches ranging from cheap to expensive and no one has ever commented. People just don't care.
@@johntate5050 Oh, most people don't care, but the gold digital watch still gets heaps more comments than the speedie... idgaf whether you believe me or not
This is my first watch in prolly a decade and I'm glad I chose it with the help of your video. It's everything I want. Stylish, vintage, beautiful, affordable yet subtle.
Just bought one today and yes, it is hip and charming. I used to think digital watches lack personality but boy was I wrong. Teddy you’ve made me a watch fanatic now !
I have 10 watches and the a168 is arguably my favourite. Timeless, classy, comfortable, affordable and surprisingly useful (I use the stopwatch at gym and alarm in the mornings). I do prefer the gold with the black face though 👌
@@nh7680 yeah but you get used to it. Especially if you just came off a big watch it’ll feel small but then you end up liking it. Unless you have a huge wrist
I saw Idris Elba wearing one, and immediately bought one. It's my go-to for any kind of fancy event. I even wore it to a fundraiser at John Stamos' house. My only issue is that I have hairy arms, and it gets caught in the band..... 100% worth it though.
I recently got an A178W to replace my A158W that I wore for 2 years after the buttons stopped working. As a Blue collar worker its a great daily watch, I prefer it to a G-Shock because of its thin form factor, I don't worry to much about it get caught up in something and taking my hand with it, and if it were to get caught I think the clasp would break before my wrist would (although I never have and never hope to test that thought out). Lastly if something where to happen to it at work, be it lost of broken, its easily replaceable for $30-35.
i love mine, was so excited to when i saw the title lol it’s such a self-aware, classy piece, and has a neat vintage-like appeal. it’s such an interesting design where anything that could be seen as a flaw about the watch, quickly turns into charm when you put it on. close runner-up for me are some of the all gold Seiko 5’s. a couple bucks more, but also brilliant ❤
I bought a gold tone casio databank fairly recently and it is so cool. People definitely notice it and its the only watch anyone has started talking to me about.
When the 35mm PRX came out in full gold, I knew it was time to live my Tony Soprano life, but I had never worn gold before and didn’t know if it would look good on my wrist. So I got one of these to see and I wear it all the time. It’s actually putting off my PRX purchase bc I like it so much.
Honestly when you do more affordable watch reviews I actually feel somewhat compelled to buy some of these watches. Especially that last video you did on the $300 watch
I get comments every time I wear my gold Casio A100WEG. Have never received a compliment when wearing my Tag Heuer F1, my Omega Seamaster, my Frederiqe Constant or any of my Seiko’s. Even when I owned a Rolex oyster perpetual I never received a compliment. But sure as night follows day, I always get a compliment wearing the retro styled gold Casio!!
I purchased a Tudor Black Bay 58 in 18k gold earlier this year and having owned this golden Casio since shortly after its release in 2012, I get more attention from watch enthusiasts when wearing the Casio, not to mention I've never been asked if it's a 'fakey' something that's happened at least 3-4 times with the Tudor. Sure, at over 300 times the price the Tudor is a better timepiece but as a 'flex' tool the Casio, for me, sits right on top of that heap.
I’m absolutely in love with Casio watches. I have the A168WE and the A100WE. The only issue with those watches… resine. It scratches too easily and even if i work on computer and I have a quiet Life they got a lot of scratches and that’s very sad. Yesterday i just received my new Watch, an Orient Kamasu 2 pepsi style. Absolutely gorgeous. I’ll let my Casio watches take some rest in order to keep them in good shape for more years :D
Just ordered a A168WEMB-1BEF off the back of this video, thanks Teddy! Great content as always and your videos have been great to help me get back into watches. Cheers!
Love this question! You may be right about the best $50 watch. This piece won’t go out of style in a year and it will never look like ball of cheese strapped to your wrist that you regret a year after purchase. Great content!!!
The casio a158 is no doubt my favorite watch. I know casio offers versions with stainless steel case but honestly the reason i love these watches is because of how they are and personally i wouldnt want anything changed. The A1000 models are also great though
I bought this watch for my daughter in law and one for myself just because I would have loved it in my youth. I seldom wear it but I still enjoy getting it out and admiring it even over my more prestigious pieces. Sometimes less is more and this is a perfect example of that. I do have a 5610 that I wear frequently (Square G) I own watches from many manufacturers and many styles and you have got to admire this very capable blingy little timepiece. I agree it's flexing without showing off cos gold is a lovely colour
I found this watch half burried in sand and water at the beach this summer. Seems it had been there for a while judging by how the gold tone had faded into a copersih color but still works perfectly :)
Love this classic , doesnt rip your finances apart, the only one digital watch that doesn’t make you look like a fool. My watch collection is Tissot chronograph automatic which was the most expensive watch I have, I have one classic looking Tissot non automatic, which goes nice with classy clothes, have stainless steel Pulsar in pristine condition which I got as my first “expensive watch” in 2007. And with all those fancier watches , I still wear Casio day to day, for work Apple Watch as I work in fitness industry. But Casio is worth every penny. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
For the world traveler who want a little bling on a budget look at the A500WGA-9DF, which is a gold tone world time watch which is priced very similarly. The functionality matches that of the "Casio Royale" (AE-1200) except for the pseudo-analog dial, you can preset 4 time zones and switch at the push of a button.
Haha I am wearing the exact watch. I ordered it after I saw you wearing at drop test video. What a cool nice daring watch. And the bracelet is so comfortable and everything is super light to wear.
Great video & great watch! I have the A230GA and love it, but there's also something special about the A168 -- when I see it on other people's wrists it always makes me grin.
Nice watch, I wore a gold Casio for 25 years the Original predecessor the full steel Casio W-750G Gold edition marlin. I still have it! So nice to see the legend lives on.
I recently purchased the A158 and I love it. I’ve only had it for a month and I’ve already received 3 compliments! Guess I have to get this one next lol.
biggest flex in this video is that perfectly exposed background, that is some seriously impressive camera work, the overall colors are great as well, just a visually pleasing piece of scenary to look at!
I have this watch and I've loved it ever since I bought it. Not to mention it was a great bargain as I got mine for £8 and was pretty much perfect condition (and still is in my case) at a second hand shop I used to work at. Perks of the job, eh? 😉
I just bought this watch along with the A700W-1A about six months back, and I've loved them both! I wanted to feel like an 80's drug lord's accountant, and I'd say it fit the bill.
Casio. Gold. Retro. And Teddy reviews among the world of Patek, Vacheron and Rolex. It's like Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs wearing a Swatch. Wonderful.
@@SpaceTimeBeing_ I would definitely say that it’s retained it’s colour pretty well. The gold that has disappeared was mainly due to the bracelet scratching against itself
Nice one Teddy for reviewing a Casio watch. My collection is now split with my Casio / G-Shock collection and the others. Over the years I started re-buying some of the old classics that I had in my teens and later and to date over 40 years none have failed in their own as far as the module is concerned. Some have died during battery replacement by and inexperienced idiot (me) and some got lost over time or the band expired. While I don't have the 168 in gold I have a couple of others. Great reliable (apart from the strap on some models years ago) honest watches at a decent price. I've yet to re-buy an F91W but I'll get round to it.
Great video with no hype! I myself own one as well, acquired from a thrift shop for free, until now didn't realise the value (up to $NZ 130), wow! I have had the watch since 2014 and the battery died this year (2024), I can replace the battery (CR2016) with its screw on back, no fancy tools to replace the battery! I would buy another one and recommend it to any one! Just a word advice, avoid swimming pools, harsh chemicals like bleach and tape water that may contain chlorine etc. also its water *resistant* to 30 metres it is *not water proof!*
I have a couple of nice watches, nothing overly amazing. But I have a Casio Calculator watch I've had for years and years and sometimes I just feel like wearing that. I get more compliments on that watch than I do with any other watch I ever wear. People love it!
I think it is worth noting that the 168 models have a light far superior to the light included in the F91W. The bright and uniform ElectroLuminescence makes everything completely readable on the silver or gold 168. I sometimes struggle to read the minutes with the dim and washy LED on the F91W. I don't even try to read the seconds with that light.
I have been making fun of my Dad for 30+ years as he has always worn this watch or similar digital gold CASIOs. No he is not a HS chemistry teacher in Albuquerque, but rather a Banker. I think this illustrates how versatile and timeless the design is…serious gold Dad flex vibes! Some watches are just so dorky they’re actually cool.
I have a beautiful Rolex Datejust, it has never been noticed on wrist... however, my gold 168 gets compliments every time... BTW, I don't wear my watches for complements, but it is fascinating how people respond.
I like the silver A700 more; it looks more modern and stylish in my opinion. Not everyone can pull of a gold watch, but I see it looks pretty good on some friends' wrists.
I largely prefer the black dial rather than this gold one. However the illuminator is so much better on this... Tough choice, probably will go with the bicolor one in the end
Great review. I’m not someone that can pull off gold, but do have an F91W that I wear from time to time. I don’t have anything else like it - and you don’t have to wear something expensive all the time! Another watch UA-camr was doing a ranking of watches and got to flikflak and said how cool it’d be to go to a fancy event rocking one of those :) but I guess you’d have to be a certain type of person to pull it off!
Teddy, I love this watch is v8ntage class and when you swap the gold bracelet for a black bracelet...WOW takes it up a notch. If you can afford a Rolex for been the ultime time piece. This casio is the ultimate in digital piece there is no equal out there drop the mic. 🎤
I just bought a Casio AQ-230 (a simple digital/analog watch) in silver, and I think I prefer it to my A158. Mainly because it looks simpler, while still maintaining that retro look! Main disadvantage is that it's a bit of a faff to set the analog time.
I love this style of digital watch. I feel the equivalent timex has a better module, but the case shape isn’t as well defined, and let’s not get into the expanding strap. But at this price point one could get one of each.
I have the Timex with the expanding strap and once I took it to be resized at my local jeweller all the problems I had are gone and it is one of my most comfortable watches

Yes, totally agree with that
Imagine a more premium line of digital Casios without being gshocks. Like Oceanus or even Edifice
That’s a wonderful idea. I love my a168. I use it for all my outdoor activities including snorkeling. So reliable.
I think they're worried about eating into the GShock market, but I'll never buy a gshock and would love some more stainless steel in my A168 of choice

I largely prefer the black dial rather than this gold one. However the illuminator is so much better on this... Tough choice, probably will go with the bicolor one in the end
I have the gray ion plated a168 , love the look . Tempted to get the gold , but not sure if I can pull it off .
I like the un-snobbery of these. We all know Casio is serious watchmaking, but exclusivity is exactly what they’re not about.
Own it, love it! Nice video Teddy ❤️
Spot on. An excellent watch and bit of bling!
Love at first sight for me when I saw this at a store! 😍
this is my second watch and i agree, it's the ultimate flex one
Teddy, I love this watch is v8ntage class and when you swap the gold bracelet for a black bracelet...WOW takes it up a notch. If you can afford a Rolex for been the ultime time piece. This casio is the ultimate in digital piece there is no equal out there drop the mic. 🎤
Elektronika back in the Soviet days did it better.
Casio is awesome for the price I have this one in silver plus the standard F91W
I use to wear the steel version of these and replace them every few years in the mid 1980s. I even had the identical model from Armitron.
Just got the A1100 in gold. Super cool watch
I have one of these but in the black face with negative screen and love it.
I’ve still got my 35-year old $10 Casio F87w. Still works fine.
Ive owned one of these for 6 years. Ive gotten more compliments over it than anything else i own.
