- At every price point in the watch world, there are go-to options, and at under $50, Casio rules supreme. But what about even less? Is it possible to get a watch that can do it all? For many people, the preferred choice is the Casio F91W-1 at an astonishing $10, or its more upscale metallic cousins, the A158W-1 and A168W-1. But in 2019, Casio unleashed a new kid on the block, the A700W-1, which challenges these heavyweight icons with something even more compelling. In this video, I review the Casio A700W-1A and discuss some of Casio's most iconic and influential watches. Join me for an 80s nostalgia-fueled extravaganza, to find out more about why this watch is so amazing, and why you should consider getting one. Whether you're a seasoned watch collector with the rarest and most expensive watches, just getting into the hobby, or need one watch for less than $30 that will do it all and last a lifetime, this is the video for you. What do you think about the watches featured in this video? Please share in the comments.

@ 11:43 I have NEVER thought of the possibility of have 2 timepieces on 1 NATO strap! Best of both worlds. Leave it to TGV to come up with this stuff! Great video
Thank you! Here you go, this might help:

Best regards,
TGV
Man's been doing it long time
That blew my mind tbh
Life is too short to wear one watch
Man is onto something lmao
The 80's montage at the start was fantastic. Can't imagine anyone else putting so much care into presenting a sub $30 watch.
These Casio watches are just so easy to wear and the retro futuristic vibe just makes you adore them.
Another hit, right out of the park 👏👏👏
Nailed it! I got goosebumps from that fantastic entry!
@@ilgizsalimgareev7106 Same here, was such a pleasure to watch
This. This right here is why I appreciate TGV. He can talk about the history of a $30 Casio with as much reverence as he talks about a $10.000 Rolex. No watch snobbery here!! And also, great intro music!!
intro music: ua-cam.com/video/jCft4_HglpI/v-deo.html
The more i see of him, the more i like him.
Here Here! Agreed!!
The man is acting an playing a youtube persona 🤣 if you think he acts like this irl you probably think dr disrespect does too. One born every minute.
And great hot ladies intro
That intro alone deserves a thumbs up.
Love my A700. Such a fun and functional piece. I bought it direct from Casio when it first came out. Glad to see it getting some love from TGV! Cheers sir!
That is so true, I wish I bought this sooner, so damn good. I must confess, I bought the gold one off the website last night to add to my own collection! 😅😅😅
Enjoy your A700.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry I have bought the gold one with colored writings a few months ago, after watching Ben Arthur's video about it. Lovely thin digital watch. Congratulations on your video, TGV, always a pleasure to watch.
@@cristianothomasinilange606 Did you get the metal band version? How's the clasp on it, heard it unbuckles for some.
@@cunrom7368 I bought the metal band, just like the one in TGV's video, only it's gold. It unbuckles by itself only if you close the clasp without anchoring the hook beforehand. If it's put properly it won't open, it's actually quite hard to unbuckle even purposely.
I'm only 1:30 in and can I just say; that intro was bloody brilliant!
As a kid growing up all the way to my early 30's, apart from a few weeks wearing Swatch (I think it was a Picasso inspired splat) and a day of a Gold Tissot I wore Casio, from the cheapest digitals, to their G-Shock range. Now I prefer wearing Swiss timepieces, but the love for Casio can never be turned off. Spent decades on the wrist for that. Just a few days ago I bought the Casio MRW-200H, fit it with a Goldfinger Nato as a replacement for my old Beater which the lug broke recently (MQ-24 style). It's brilliant.
I’m wearing this watch right now! Not only is it SUPER affordable, but it fits a wide array of looks whether it be casual/around the house or in the office. Such a classy look, I find myself grabbing this one over my nicer pieces often. Of course the timer is great for the grill too!
Can't beat the nostalgic feeling you get with Casio. Keep up the good work 🤌
So true, thank you Kristian! O&U!
Best regards,
TGV
I’ve been wearing almost exclusively Casio watches for the last 2-3 weeks, coming from an owner of Omega, Hamilton, Oris, Seiko, etc. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s questioning the point of my other watches, especially after getting my first steel G-Shock.
Sounds like all of your watches are shitters. So I’m not quite sure why wearing a Casio would be such a contradiction….
What an intro TGV. Just amazing. Didn't mind those shots of the exercise classes too. Could have put a bit more of that 🤣🤣. Wasn't around in the 80s but still get that nostalgia. That's why I love quartz in general. It's like nostalgia of the biggest tech when I was a kid. I would always go to John Lewis every month or so with my parents and just sit there in awe out of all the watches on display. Didn't even know mechanical existed. Just passion without knowledge. Reminds me of those times. Gonna start watching the vid now
Thank u TGV if it wasn’t for finding your gem of a channel I’d never discover my true love for horology 🎉.
That makes it all worth it. Thank you for the inspiring comment, onwards, upwards and best regards!
TGV
Started my casio collection a few year ago thanks to you with the glorious databank and my childhood f91w. My daily one by far is the classic g-shock but no other starts a conversation like the databank. Also thanks to you got a seiko skx013 and love it! Thank you TGV!
Your final comments on wanting to make conversation with someone wearing a Casio, and “not something I can say about people wearing the smart watches,” is something I agree with as well. All in all, a great video, as always, with sweet inserts of history, film, nostalgia, and even some retro cool video games! By the way, I used to play C&C Red Alert, and later Yuri’s Revenge when it came out, for hours on end! Ah, the good old days…
I miss the 80/90’s!!! Vintage Casio watches rock!!! Great video!!!! Retro is cool!
As someone who has a starter Casio a171 watch as a daily, this may be my next upgrade. Thanks for the video review!
Cool. I own the same A700. Love to have seen your effort of putting it on a pedestal
As usual, another great review by TGV. I've learned more about the Casio than I ever knew. I've been given a renewed appreciation for this Casio.
Being a child of the eighties, I've grown up with everything Casio from the iconic F91 to hand held games, calculators etc, then re-energized with the advent of the almighty G-Shock.. In fact my love of all things G border on obsession possibly insanity, more likely both... Mate, your reviews elevate my love of chronology to a whole new level and then some... I just wish my bank balance was elevated in the process...Keep up the good work Brother... You are the Guru of chronology and I live in hope that your enthusiasm for the art never dwindles ....
I raise my glass to your sir.....
been rocking this A700 beauty on a Timex Falcon Eye bracelet and it's just so appropriate in so many situations. And for how stunning yet affordable it is, I also use it as the "walk through my house in the middle of the night" watch. Top clip, TGV!
Those small digital Casios truly are timeless classics. While an F-91W may not be beaten in functionality for your buck, the aesthetic changes made here surely do the watch good. Money well spent!
GREAT video. Gave me nostalgia goose bumps!! Just ordered the watch to go with all my other casios.
I've been watching tgv here for quite sometime. Actually since pre covid when I was still in highschool haha. I'm admittedly still young at 20 years of age, but thanks to the likes of tgv, iv gotten myself in to the wonderful world of horology and time pieces slowly building a collection. Currently having three seikos, a turtle, alpinist and panda speedtimer, and have just recently bought a bulk purchase of 8 casios. I was thinking of buying a persage line watch to add to my seiko collection, but my mum recently found her old collection of casios. We had a small talk about the history of her experience with casios, and long story short it got me hooked. Just bought 7 casios from the vintage line and the ae1200h due to my affinity for james bond, and the inspiration he has become for me. Inclusive of what was bought were of course the a700, the iconic a100 alien watch, a158, a168, two aq800e's with one black and one white dail, and a b640. All for the same price as one persage seiko 😅. But thank you tgv for being who you are and the content you provide. Which provides both affordable and luxury options.
Thanks for stimulating those 1980s feelies. It is good to revel in nostalgia from time to time.
So glad to see you reviewing one of my favorite watches from my humble collection! The A700 truly is something special. Fantastic video!
Every time you show the 80's really puts a smile on my face and this watch for would put a smile on any watch fans face lot of interesting watches have come out this year so far from Swatch Timex and now Casio it looks like watch companies are hitting the ground running I really appreciate that so glad to be part of early gang lets go.
Just Brilliant. I can't image anyone else in the Watch World producing such amazing consistent content ....even on a Casio. If i were Casio CEO i would make an organization mandate to watch this video. Again well done.
Two years ago I again, 30years after, bought F91w of your influence and it is the best and most comfortable watch I own. Lots of smiles and thumbs up from people around me.
This video is absolutely fantastic and it captured everything that we grew up on. You only left out PlayStation but I will let that slide... although I've seen you put that Seiko and Snake Plissken in... ok ok.
This made my day, TGV production never disappoints.
Onwards and upwards!
Thank you my friend, and in turn, this comment made my day.
Keep being awesome Igor!
Onwards, upwards and best regards,
TGV
i really should add one to my collection. awesome 80s video editing!!!!!!!!!
Have the B650WD-1AEF, it's abit bigger and would love if they made this one with steel case. But you cant really go wrong with any of these Casio watches. Always fun to see the joy of ppl when they talk about casio. =)
Thanks much TGV! Can't wait to watch it!
Yay, another Casio 😁 This rabbit hole is infinite. Amazing intro btw!
Recently I got a good deal on the GLS69, got if for around $60 brand new. It has a low temp LCD, bullbars and some advanced functions from the G9000, I think. Enjoying it!
Absolutely love my A700, had been thinking for a while that there wasn't much content about it on here!
Very nice. I have the A168, and it has both the great full backlight and a minimum seven year battery. Makes me smile every time I look at it.
Another fantastic video. Honestly. They just keep getting better and better. I learn something new every time and really appreciate the independence that is lacking from so many other watch related channels here on UA-cam.
Bravo Sir 👏
I love these inexpensive Casios too. One "sleeper" model is the W735H-1AV with vibration alarm and the light button right out front where it's easy to hit. Surprisingly durable, I've had mine since they first came out. I don't think any other Casio (or many other watches, period) have a vibration alarm and it is a great feature when you need to be discreet. Long live the A700W-1 also!
I think my Casio remote control watch had the vibration alarm function. It is a great feature. Some Casio watches will say on the case "vibration alarm"
Great insights and unique coverage of a "simple" watch from an iconic brand with plentiful history, especially when it comes to digital watches. Coincidentally, before seeing your video I pulled out my A168 today after a hiatus of a few months. I noticed you mention the backlight of the A168 where I believe you're referring to the A158, as the A168 has the unbeatable electro luminescent backlight. Regardless, good to know this watch also has a good backlight. Thanks for the great content as always.
This watch lives in my EDC bag since it's so slim and fits virtually any attire I would be wearing that day. It's my emergency watch if i had to just rush out of the door. I have larger wrists and it looks to small on me but it still gets complements on how it looks. Ive given this watch to a young lady working the drive thru at Wendy's close to my job just taking it right off my own wrist and handing it to her along with my payment for my food. It's been 2 years now and she's still wearing it. When a timepiece is as cool as it is and only paying 20 bucks for it at Walmart ya can't go wrong.
Out of only a couple of watches I own, this is possibly my favourite, just only edging over Glycine Combat AM (with milanese strap). They are complementary - rounded vs sharp.
Looks great Marc, you and your team truly understand your customers need/wants 😊👍😎
I have 2 of this... love them. But a stainless steel version would be OUTSTANDING.
I have just bought the A700 with the mesh strap and grey front, a very similar watch, 6mm thick the same. Thanks for the review, TGV! 😉😊
Had this for a while now, gets more use than my other watches.
I got this watch as a birthday present and it has been a great watch I just throw on because it goes well with anything I’m wearing. I wore it a lot in the summer when it was real hot in the uk, being lightweight but still all metal(ish) looks good in the sun
For me personally, a watch with multiple timezones is important. My Casio AE1200WHD is the ultimate watch. It's basically the only one I wear nowadays.
Rather a Casio than a Moonswatch! 😉
That intro was one of the best films I’ve ever seen
As usual T, this is exactly why I love your videos... "In Pilly, it's worth $50 bucks" Love it! And that movie is a classic. I love the journey you take us on making a review into a mini narrative is brilliant. On another note, Natasha Lyonne in Poker Face (great show btw) can be seen wearing two different Casio's in the show, looks like one might be a A158WA-1DF and the other potentially the classic FW91W.
Thank you so much Jessica, I deeply appreciate that. I can't wait to talk watches with you! Not long now. Off to google Poker Face! Love it.
Best regards,
TGV
*Great video* Takes me back. Takes me waaay back. Going to pick one of these up for my teenage daughter. Based on the clothes she wears, and (some of) the music she listens to, the 80's are definitely back. I'll put it on a blue and pink nylon strap. Fingers crossed on whether it gets any actual wrist time.
its the thinnest casio so i bought it and the smaller size does not matter because it is square. a smaller size is much better for a square case in my opinion. smaller round watches can get too small for me though. thanks for the casio content tgv
Everyone needs a Casio in their collection!
Greatest intro ever. Gave me goosebumps!
Thank you so much TGV for sharing such a wonder affordable watch! I personally own three Casios. One of which I inherited from my grandfather when he passed away. It has a rectangular blue dial with a stainless steel case and bracelet. The other two I bought myself which are the Casio duro and the Casio g-shock solar protection version. I really love Casio high quality with an affordable price motive! I would be intrigued in experimenting with their premium line of Casio Oceanus to see how much I would enjoy it. I’m afraid to purchase a high end Casio Oceanus because it is so good and Versitile that I would probably stop wearing my other automatic watches!
Thank you so much TGV for such a wonderful review! I agree with you 100%!!
Have a wonderful day!!
Stay heathy and well as always!!
Ps. By the way if you have a chance, could you please talk about your sword in the background? I would be very interested to learn more about it in another video!
(Nicholas L) ❤❤❤🦖🦖🦖⏱️⏱️⏱️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
This is why i love your channel this piece i own n wow i love it... £30 DOLLARS or £10k watches etc you appreciate that CASIO is in everyones collections wether youve rolexs omega etc !!! What im trying to say you respect casio like a lot of high end watch enthusiasts !!!
Haven't checked price lately - but Casio Royale!
Very well put together, and love the pre titles as always
Just ordered the a700, excited to start wearing it
Oh that beautiful Gold and Burgundy. BEAUTIFUL!
Speaking of affordable watches, I was looking at a Seiko in a shop window today - it was a big-ish green beast that looked really quite handsome. But the inner watch-snob got the better of me. (I know I sound like a total a$$hole, but having become middle-aged and grown accustomed to Patek and JLC, it's genuinely quite hard to get my head around the idea of a watch under 1K!)
That is really quite admirable of you to admit that. I am constantly having the opposite problem, as I get older I am finding it harder and harder to justify paying more for watches. Reverse snobbery perhaps? I see these super high end Patek on instagram, I think of the price and hear Hugo's voice going "how ghastly". 😅😅😅 Unless it's something that really get me excited like a Navitimer or obscure find like my White Shadow. Etc. Great comment and topic for a future video one day perhaps, thank you for sharing that JB. You know what, life is so short. Try the Seiko, see what happens maybe?
Best regards as always,
TGV
I wish Casio would bring back the Marlin W24a. It reminds me back to my high school days.
A favorite everyday beater is the Traser H3 classic chronograph with the Black ⚫ pvd coating. It's very tactical and it's a quartz movement. I can never get into digital watches, quartz yes 👍 but not digital
How is the even remotely relevant to this video???
Great video, looking forward to the annual war room vid and more collaborations.
Takes be back to high school. Love it
♥️♥️♥️ Love this channel
I loved the introduction. I am an eighties guy. Gen X.
excellent video...well spoken...well presented...nostalgic...and yes I want one for my CASIO collection...along with the other dozen on my list...well done on a great job.
That looks awesome! My silver casio just broke and this is a great replacement. Thanks TGV!
So happy to help! This is deffo the one to get. Enjoy and thank you for the comment.
Best regards,
TGV
I saw The Blessed Mother. You sold me.
What an epic opening 80s montage! Have the A700 and while I love the watch, I despise the hair remover bracelet, one of the worst I've experienced. Solution: have started shaving my wrist!
Brilliantly researched story of a watch.
Best colourway shown here.
My most worn Casio👌🏻 near perfect and so much fun
What a video man great job
Man….Command and Conquer….❤️
Love my World Time on bracelet!
Love this channel. It’s all about the fizz. Not money oriented. (Lucky for me! 🤪)
Thanks 😊
Hi TGV!
In my humble opinion the Casio 1200 World Time aka Casio Royale is still the best Casio around the $25 mark. Nowadays the models increase in price a bit but I’m sure you are still able to get one for $25. I wonder what is your opinion about the Casio A1000MA-7EF, a full steel model officially priced at $99 but is available for less than $80?
Best regards,
Claus
Great content and very informative sir
Yes, I have one watch only for sleeping, this is the one! It started as a watch I used when I started working, super confortable, unpretencious and still classy. (Un)fortunatly the horological infection started growing and also not beeing stainless steel, it starts loosing some of the beauty, the cooper looking aloy underneeth will never look good... I would consider buying a stainless steel if it existed. So! When you have 2 small kids, you know where your sleep starts but you won't know in which room you will wake up. You will need to know multiple times at night what time is it, and as our host also notices, the backlight is impecable for this purspose, and it can help you navigate in a dark room funtioning as a dim lantern. Very light, confortable bracelet.
13:06 i have that edition. i recently bought the 4K edition but i need to update my tv and blu-ray player before i can watch it
That intro bro… Im crying
Hi TGV!
After watching a few of your videos, you’ve converted me into a full blown watch collector. I’ve been buying many of the Casios from your videos. Keep it up mate, love the style of your videos..they’re fun, high quality and loads of information.
A700w is goated. Of course I own one!
Yo. You need a Lego video! Talk about how and why you selected your Lego models. I feel that watches and Lego are similar. Each have myriad options and reasons for enthusiasm and enjoyment.
Who would've thought that TGV would be playing games like Command & Conquer and Street Fighter? I sure didn't.
I have this watch. It has great design but shiny case and [slightly less] shiny bracelet makes it too flashy. I wish Casio released it in brushed steel.
Buongiorno. Hard to say what Casio I love much. I would say my old Marlins, the new AE1200 and also my Mission Impossible G Shock or some of m other 40 Casios. Btw the AW 700W-1 cost in Germany more than €50!
If it's available in India, then kindly share buying link 🙏
Great Vid as Always!
Had one as a teenager. Didn't know I was being trendy, even back then. It was just a cheap and reliable watch. Who knew?
Thx great video nice greetings from Austria
Love you video! And lava lamp👍
Love the Mandy movie poster👌
👏👏👏👏 A very special Film for me, you have great taste in movies,
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
TGV you are the best!
A terrible cup of coffee from Starbucks. You are absolutely right.
That clip of the Tudor and the casio on the same strap is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Still not a big fan of resin cases... I like my A1000 much more.
However... another thing Casio could improve is the modul/display. The current functionality is OK; day/date, stop watch, alarms, maybe counter... not even use all of them tbf.
But the displays are so basic, so minimal... boring... Do some interesting graphics, some flashing/rotating segments by every second - don't go overboard, just tastefully.
This is the watch to set all of your other watches and all of the clocks in your house too.
The watch I always wanted but will never buy because I will always want to want it.
Casio What Legend Brand...
Can someone please tell me that cartoon in the begining of the 80s flashback with the people with helmets? There was a toy I loved as a kid and think that might have been the cartoon it was from lol
