Roger Moore a legend and will be sadly be missed.
Not by me.
ISpartaChrisI - no one cares about you or your crap opinions
Magic of facial hair in older age. If they let 007 have some facial hair he would look quite good in View to a kill.
Roger Moore referring to JCVD as Jean Claude Venereal Disease is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard 😂😂
It's too bad Moore's character was undersold in the marketing, since he's clearly the most interesting character. Tons of potential with a British military veteran turned pirate.
I use to think Van Dam was a rather bad actor. Then I saw “JCVD” and he was able to act using his native language. Wow. Such a difference.
Yeah it's a shame more people havent seen JCVD. It's a great film. And that scene is phenomenal.
Jean Claude Van Jhonson is well worth watching on Amazon Prime too.
Well the thing is, he wasn't acting, he was spilling his guts.
But yeah, apparently I had something in my eye during that scene cause I couldn't help but shred a tear... :/
@@slckb0y65 yea... I too was conveniently chopping onions during that scene.
lot easier to play your self lol
@@steviegbcool it is. But you still have to perform in front of the camera with a director and crew working in the background. And on cue!
Also his performance throughout the film is great.
Jack Mcgee insults Roger Moore's body of work and tells him he was overshadowed by Connery; friendship ensues...
Roger Moore was a class act.
That he was.
I loved this movie, watched it multiple times as a kid and even now. The music was great too.
Remember watching this as a kid. A couple of months back I gave it a rewatch. One of my favorite Dams movies simply because of an adventure...
such a classic adventure story
Worth a watch to see the legendary Roger Moore.
Do a "Romancing the Stone" retrospective please.
Also this movie might not be perfect but it was pretty cool to see different fighting styles from all over the world be featured, including Capoeria. Don't get enough movies with that. Maybe Oliver could tackle the movie Only the Strong, which is the only Capoeria centric movie out there.
Supposedly, Dacascos learned the entire style in about five months, specifically for the film
saw that in bloosport, the movie was terrible
@@BobfishAlmighty Well, helps Dacascos was already a seasoned Martial Artist so picking it up was probably easy for him.
With all due respect, I doubt he trained for 5 months. His ginga, the base of capoeira, is completely wrong.
@@dongeraci8599 True, but hey atleast they acknowledge Capoeria is real. Most movies don't even do that much.
The spanish figther is Peter Malota, a great friend to JCVD and made some movies with him like "Double Impact", "The Order" and "Universal Soldier".
I remember watching this in the cinema. I was more excited to see Roger Moore on screen than Jean Claude Van Dam.
You were excited to watch Todge....after you decided to watch Van Cheese.
Your name has been entered onto the list.....
Oooopp
I mean it’s a team of the ages
Me too
I may not be the biggest fan of this film, but I can appreciate Van Damme for what did. Great review.
Loved this film as a kid. It's one of his weaker pieces, but I appreciate the film for what it is. 90s nostolgia.
This may not be a great movie, but I got to see it just for the performance of Sir Roger Moore. That guy was a treasure.
Just came across a documentary on Amazon prime called "In search of the last action heroes" directed by some guy named Oliver Harper. Great stuff man!
My best friend and I skipped school to go see this movie.... and silently agreed to walk out about 45 minutes after it started
And it was so bad you went back to school?
@@davidjames579 Sat in front, confessed to our crimes, and begged for our parents to be notified
JCVD Is a underrated actor I know his movies are considered like B movies but I love just about all the movies he was in from the 80s & 90s!
@Anustaster lol same here idgaf tho half the people that are main stream I consider garbage or average at best
@Lame Duck tbh drugs screwed up alot of those actors from the 80s & 90s it was so normal & probably still is Hollywood will eat you alive if you not ready for it
@Lame Duck Van Damme wasn't in 'Simon Sez' that was a truly bad film staring Dennis Rodman. I think you might be thinking of 'Double Team' where Van Damme and Rodman both starred together?
Double impact, and it's quite watchable
Looks like the opening is filmed in the Phi Phi islands in Thailand. Went there 14 yeats ago. Heaven on earth that place
My grandpa and I watched this so many times.
Woohoo! New retrospective! I only found your channel 2 months ago and I've watched everything already. Been eagerly awaiting more.
James Remar also happened to play Raiden in MK Annihilation.
I was a big fan of JCVD but Sir Moore was the only reason I watched this movie RIP I still watch 'The Saint' to this day
First film Oliver has reviewed I havent seen! Looks like my night is sorted!
I love some of the score pieces from this movie. Track titled "Sentenced to Death" is one of the most beautiful score pieces ever.
Thanks, man. A lot!
I think I walked passed this VHS cover a thousand times in blockbuster before finally catching the trailer on another tape. I had zero interest until I heard Sir Roger say “my name is Dobbs... Lord Dobbs”. That man could sell water to the ocean.
So they should have put his name above the title after all.
Thanks for reviewing 90s movie sir. Bring lots of my childhood memory back.
Never heard of this film before. Completely passed me by in the 90s. Cool to see Roger Moore in such a flick.
I love the first couple of minutes in your reviews. Somehow you make every movie look interesting/good. =)
JCVD consider this and Universal Soldier the best movies in his career.
Time cop
In Hell was very good also
I just brought Universal Soldier on 4K because I liked it as a kid, but man it’s a lot worse then I remembered-
Crap Movie.
@@SirSSau age has not been kind to that film... but for some reason I can still totally get on board with it if only because Dolph Lundgren is just so corny and brutally hilarious as a villain.
@@stegura83 Lol, by which standard?
Roger Moore was my favourite James Bond loved him in the quest too
Oliver, just wanted to say you have the best reviews and it makes me want to watch them again. Keep up the good work bro!
Thanks very much dude!
Never has an upload by a youtuber gotten me so excited. Oliver Harper is fantastic.
Come 1996 Van Damme was no longer on my radar and I had no idea of this film's existence until the 2000s.
When I watched this film I remember thinking , halfway into the tournament, that you could call the winner of any fight that Van Damm wasn't in, by picking whichever fighter is from the country farthest to the east. I think that that actually holds pretty true( from what I remember. Haven't watched it in decades).
I'm surprised it never came about a video game, cause the movie is like a fighting game.☺ & its a great memory for me.
well it wasn't a hit film or anything. Universal Solder might have got some kind of treatment. I don't remember. But the Quest wasn't a popular film and at the tail end of JCVD's time headlining movies that don't go straight to video.
YES....This is the retrospective I've been waiting for 😁 Thanks Oliver.
I'd love to see you do one on the 2009 film '500 Days Of Summer!!
Cool! Havent seen the movie but your review was excellent and made me want to watch it. Thanks for the upload and awesome content.
A second vid so close to the last. Yes please, you’ve just made my already shit week a whole lot better. 👍
I totally forgot about this movie, thanks for reminding me !
I've been looking for this movie for years! thank you!
Glad you reviewed this film. I was 9 when I first saw this film and it's a favorite of mine. A 90s Bloodsport that's overlooked. You have to review No Retreat No Surrender, Death Warrant, Double Impact and Double Team too :).
I loved this film as a kid... especially with the showcase of styles and the cinematography.
I totally forgot that this movie even existed till I seen the screen shot on here, of course I had to click on it to get all nostalgic. Still love Van Damme movies....and Sho Kosugi as well.
Oliver, another great video. You deserve more subscribers.
21:55 - "...so he can get his bum out for the love scene" - OMG, I laughed so hard at that comment that my Sprite just went up my nose. Awesome video as always, Oliver!
I am super excited for this one... well done sir
The Quest is a good sunday movie. It's like that typical matinées movies of the 90's like Cuttroat Island. It's entertaining and has a budget that hightlights beutiful locations. The Quest was always a keeper in my book, too bad like you said that the fight scenes needed to be longer.
One of a kind movie. A fighting tournament with all kinds of types of martial arts from all over the world AND we see all the fights?
Excellent retrospective Sir, I’m hoping one day you’ll do Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Legionnaire (1998). Along with Universal Soldier (1992), I think that has to be my favorite Van Damme film.
Loved this film back in the day.Still have it on vhs somewhere
Fantastic review as per usual. If you decide to do another JCVD retrospective, please consider Double Impact. Cheers
I love the fighting scenes. IMO the best filmed 'in camera' fighting I've seen being captured on 35mm film (even compared to Ong Bak 2 and the better Donnie Yen fights). Gorgeous lighting and so many fighting styles. Too bad they didn't extend the fighting bits. It was fantastic. The film is thin on story and not consistent but gorgeously filmed and many good acting performances.
I love your Van Damme reviews! I’ve never seen The Quest. I just know it by reputation. After seeing this review I think I wanna give it a try, flaws and all. I’m fascinated by Roger Moore being in a Van Damme movie.
Haha awsome, I cant believe you did this movie. I watched this as a kid and the music was heroic lol. I still watch it to this day for old times sake.
Great video mr Oliver.
i love this movie, JCVD was amazing and still be my fav action movie star... great review
I saw this film on VHS a year after it's release, and never knew the late Roger Moore, James Bond 007, was in this movie until my dad told me about it
Another retrospective! Excellent!!!!🎬
How have u not done double impact yet? Come on Oliver it's his best.
One of my favorite films with Van Damme. So many cool and different fighting styles. I like its story too
Yes!! Been waiting for this one! 👍🏻🎞💿
Sweet, I reviewed this gem a while ago. I love the adventure and martial arts aspect of it.
9:00, Jesus, I remember hearing about this and I wish him the best of luck with his career.
The unrelated text in the last paragraph in the book - this must have been standard practice back in the day. I especially noticed it in Tango & Cash. I think it was barely noticeable on DVD, but on blu-ray every newspaper they show are just headlines and unrelated stock text repeated over and over. Check it out, it's literally every time they smash-cut to a newspaper to move the plot along. It's wild.
Jean Claude Venereal Disease LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 Nice one Sir Roger
I had never heard of "The Quest" until now! 😅
"What the hell is a Dim Mak?" The Quest is worth watching for Roger Moore, the skilled fighters and the production value, but stick with Bloodsport for the original and best JCVD tournament movie.
That's when he breaks the bottom brick in Bloodsport.
Which I'll take Bloodsport all day over the Quest.
Randy the composure sounds like he worked on the movie Dragon the Bruce lee story. Almost identical I love JCVD he is one of the reasons why I became an actor. I saw this movie with my brother in the cinema it was different because of the time piece but I really like it. Peter Matola was actually my Sensi’s teacher For 20 years in Michigan. It’s pretty cool to get the teachings passed on. He’s actually Albanian he’s representing the flag on his belt buckle in the movie.
You should do Gremlins 2 - The New Batch & John Carpenter's Elvis
I would like to see a Retrospective/Review of "The Wild Geese". It was a Roger Moore action movie outside made in the middle of his Bond career. I know that is a late 1970's action movie, but the cast and action in that movie is worth a in depth look at.
YES. Absolutely. The Wild Geese is a GREAT movie.
i fell totally in love with the big Mongolian, I didn't remember anything else. I didn't even remember the storyline or Roger Moore and James Remar being in the film., haha.
i did remember completely enjoying the difference fighting styles going against each other. so i really enjoyed the tournament part of this movie..
Based on the fictitious life of frank dux hahaha hilarious.
11:01 to 11:06: I'm going to put that on a loop. Holy Minogue-ly! Kyle Minogue at 52 is hot, but back in 1996 what a goddess.
A nice look back, Oliver. Thanks. Any chance you'll have more Moore ;) , with *The Wild Geese* ?
Van Damme and her were during Street Fighter.
Today I learned that Van Damme was a smoker and Roger Moore laughs at farts.
Yeah, the smoker thing caught my eye too.
I loved this film as a kid, still have a soft spot for it
I think I've only seen bits of this movie when it came on "Encore Action". I would like to give it watch sometime, movie looks really good, even with all it's faults. I really looks like an "Indiana Jones" movie, but with a lot of martial arts. Great review/retrospective.
“ so he can get his bum out” 🤣🤣🤣
I'm a big of of Van Damme's 80's and 90's movies, i can happily rewatch movies like Hard Target and Double Impact again and again. The Quest is pretty good, i enjoyed it. Not one his best for sure but i've seen much worse movies and some of those were one's which so called critics praised.
This was one of my favorite Van Damme movies. Mostly because of the variety of martial arts styles in the tournament.
Never heard of this movie until now. Seeing Roger Moore in it made me interested.
JCVD is always reliable for fun
This looks fantastic...I've actually never seen it.
I recently bought it and have never seen it!
@@bobdigi500 Have you watched it yet? It looks really good.
Awesome, loved this movie, though I felt like it was just a big budget retelling of Blood Sport. Okay now time to watch.
"His heavy work schedule lead to his dependence on cocaine"
Aka
He liked a party and a line or ten at least three times a week.
This falls into the Van Damme 3 forgotton films era for me. Those 3 films are The Quest, The Order and Knock Off. I say that cos they are 3 films of his i never saw any advertisements for they just popped up as premiers on the Sky Movie channels in the 90s. I had no idea he'd even made them till then, lol. The Quest was always the one that stood out for me though. I remember quite enjoying it but don't think I've been back to watch it again since.
I find action heroes don't really need to be good actors but rather action heroes who make good movies. Van Damme had some great movies for us kids growing up in the 90s. TimeCop, Universial Soldier, Double Impact, Hard Target and Sudden Death were all good films from my perspective at such a young age. Thus Van Damme will always be an iconic action hero for me.
I enjoyed Van Damme's films and have always enjoyed Roger Moore.
But when I saw the preview for this film , It was the first time , I thought that I wait till it come on cable.
Criminally underrated. Every fighter is so unique and different and you really get that Street Fighter the game feel with the best fighters from all over the world coming together to fight. Also Oliver I think you might have a man crush on the one guy in the movie that doesn't even fight, half your intro/outro clips are of Moore. lol
It's most definitely not underrated. Lol. It's a dogshit movie, and Moore is the only thing intriguing in the whole debacle. It was rated just right.
10:07, Backdraft!
What bums me out is that jcbd didn't use any muay thai fighting technique, considering he was trained on the island.
One of the hidden gems!
👏👏👏💯💯💯
I’m just amazed someone else has seen this movie
It was a classic for the 90s. I still loved this movie.
You should re-review the dark crystal your original view was pretty good but I think you could do a longer video about it and also talk about the TV show and the countless prequels and sequels comics
You should do that van damme legionnaire film !
One of my favorite movies as a kid.
Loved this movie since i was a kid
I used to read Impact Magazine as well, and I remember from that this film seemed like a more faithful adaptation of Street Fighter. In that you have a Spanish fighter like Vega, a Sumo Wrestler like E Honda. I figured Van Damme was making it to make up for how ineffectual the actual Street Fighter film was.
This is great!
3 minutes in and I'm like... HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO WATCH THIS NOW! I'll be right back...
