Ben Nevis, from last place at canal turn one, to second place turning out onto the second circuit, then to win by 20L sprinting away from proven GN horses in 2nd & 3rd. Probably best heavy ground GN performance ever!! 34 secs quicker than Earth Summit in 1998!
I saw both Nationals, Earth Summits National was extremely heavy, Ben Nevis the National was Good in parts good to soft in others, I do believe that Red Marauders was the Heaviest, I missed that on. My Father said That Royal Mail in the fifties was bottomless.
Look I know these fences could sadly be killers but these still feel like proper Grand Nationals. It was a genuine lottery whether you even get round which makes Red Rum and multiple placed horses like Rough and Tumble and The Pilgarlic all the more remarkable

Imagine the fences where the same size on Saturday! there would be only 4 or 5 getting round!
