Then, just like Kaiser, they poured all of their development funding into an unneeded and unwanted small car (the Jet) instead of tooling up a competitive V-8 for 1953/54. Not to mention that their new smaller cars cost nearly as much as their competitors' cheapest full-sizers. RIP Hudson & K-F. (Hudson became part of AMC but was soon phased out.)
Would be nice if someone reprinted what he did, for one, Smokey used old block with cylinders tapped, pumped blast grit, bon Ami and used engine oil thru ports. Now days it's called extrusion honing.
@societyisboring You very much do. The 50s was not some perfect era where everything was sunshine and rainbows. Car tech was far less safe and advanced, oh boy. can't wait for my head to get ripped off by the god damn steering column in a crash. Or better yet, have my car stolen because some drunk teenager brang a crowbar and jumper cable to the parking lot. Like, seriously? The 50s undoubtedly had absolute marvels for cars at the time, and many great innovations came out of it, but outright saying that it was a better time to be alive is simply ignorant. Electronics went into cars for good reason. And while yes, it makes them harder to work on, innovations like those have saved many, many lives from previously lethal car crashes, and the price of a life is priceless compared to that of a destroyed car. That should be common sense...
Sad part 6 years later 1957 HUDSON was Kaput. My dad had a '57 Hudson with a Packhard motor.
