Watch and love both Dead Dodge Garage and Rocket Restorations. Thanks guys. My dad had the 1963 Polara 500 383 Four Barrel and he also had the 1964 Polara 500 383 four barrel. I remember them quite well they both ran pretty hard.

Super rare and super cool car! 13.5:1 compression! Dang. On the sign board....you'd think that someone who does those things for a living would have left the apostrophes out of the word "cars". Like several times. Oh well. Good stuff, Jamie. Thanks for bringing us this awesome Mopar. Which I can't believe has a 3-speed manual! Crazy!

In 1967, my senior year of HS, I took my hard earned life savings of $1500 and bough a 64 Plymouth Belvedere with a 426 Max Wedge. Blue 2 door hardtop, with the big iron 4 speed, Doug headers through the fender wells, Lakewood blow up proof bellhousing. Previous owner had turned high 11's at Fremont (Calif.) drag strip. It was FAST! It got BAD mileage on Custom Supreme 103 octane gas that cost a whopping 39.9 per gallon. Didn't care! A few months later, one January morning it was quite cold, and as you noted these engines are very cold blooded anyway, as it fired up it back or mis fired and blew a con rod right out the side of the block! I almost cried. That was the end of that engine in that car. I bought a HiPo 383 out a 63 Dodge for $250, dropped that in, and still ate Chevies for dinner! Kept all the parts and pieces of the Max Wedge, and sold to a collector in about 73 or 74 for $2500. Happy days.

Awesome car - surprised this is your first in the flesh max sighting. There are a number of them here in the NE; maybe not HC cars, but they are around. Old guy story: I grew up a block away from the local Dodge dealer (‘Dodge since 1918” and still being sold out of the same building) and eight year old me spotted out in front the first brand new car that stole my heart - a red ‘62 Polara 500 2 door. This takes me back to my high school days, the early '60s Chrysler Corp products were somewhat homely compared to Ford and Chevy and thought of as little old lady cars (Little Old lady From Pasadena), that all changed during the mid '60s, and now in my old age those 'little old lady cars' are some of my favorites. This '63 is the/a transition piece between the early and mid '60s and is about as cool as a car can be... The mid '60s was one of the most magical/exciting time periods in our country's history; cars, music stars, politics, it had it all, so many great memories.

Chrysler did not use the T85 early OD trans were mopar with B/W (pat) OD The big 3 speed our 413 wedge came with was all Mopar with torque tube drive like Nash and Buick we had to double key the axle hubs even with the then street tire rule The one year only T10 was "borrowed" from the legal 383 spec but would not hold up with the Ramcharger we went Torqueflyte If you know of any literature showing T85 OD let me know ican't remember them even in pickups (that' FORD) REMIND ME

@@jmflournoy386 I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Mopar did not use the OD but did use the T85 for a couple of years until they came out with the A833. I was just commenting on the fact that the T85 was used by many makes during the 50's and 60's. The 727 was more popular in racing applications for good reason. Cheers! 😎👋🏎🏁🏁

@@countswing284 I had been working at a Nash then AMC dealer we had a 57 327 Rebel with the T85 0D then stuck a chevy 4 speed into it before we got caught. Then a 4 speed Hydrostick till we got caught as 56 was the last year for the Cast Iron Hydro
But I was crew on a 413 Wedge car run by a local gas station I developed a retard for top end. Gas was not good enough
Now on the 13:1 heavy pistons. Pulling the heads Gene Ohly at Evans Speed equipt (RIP) and I found ugly burn patterns on the pistons We cut fire slots in the pistons which gave a triangle shaped burn on the intake side So we cut down the dome and cut the deck to get quench but found it ran best with the domes radiused
Quench allowed full advance but we claimed our piston mod was the key and said NOTHING about the deck clerance
We used the Stainless Shim Truck gaskets

I always wondered if engine machine shop work to increase the bore and also compression might make a feaux version of the car your showing,, although a much more street version and a lot less valuable to insurance and replacement.
The 64 Max wedge 330 race version is very rare and valuable, I’d be concerned when street driving it.

Great video. Most of the modern community has no idea these cars exist. Sure, most have heard of a GTO, but a Ramcharger Dodge wasn't that the SUV. That's the mastic of these they totally don't look like a racer!

Back in the day, fast cars that looked like grocery getters were known as "sleepers". Nearly all high performance MoPars up until the '67 model year came from the factory in sleeper trim. 1967 was the first year for the R/T and GTX. 1968 was the first year for the Road Runner and Super Bee, and those could be ordered in sleeper trim.

Dan Dvorak used to race one of these in Stock Eliminator in A and B stock. He had a 413 car as well.
