Wasnt buffed with the food either :(*
They should put advanced portals into the game. Iron-Portal: can teleport iron but needs iron to craft and an ítem from swamp boss. So for the first time you need to do the hauling way, and when it comes to farm lots of iron you can craft the advanced portal. Same for the next ores like silver and so on.
@@notmebro7145 wouldn't waste your time, people have been complaining about that in "Open beta" over a year before iron gate decided to cash grab with early access. Iron gate likes to use vary annoying mechanics to force players into using boats and carts. Which is why portal mods like teleport everything are vary vary popular. We played with it once and we only every used Karvs to scout and place portals that was it, outside of a initial Barnacle run or serpents there was no need to use them at all. We tried V+ but got fed up vary quickly because sailing is painfully boring (Don't think IG realizes viking long boats had a shit loads of oars)

They should simply decrease metal cost for craftables, it is stupid that fully upgraded silver sword consists of 160 silver ingots with total mass of 2240 pounds, and if they want to keep the amount of grind and dungeon exploration in the game - decrease the ore-to-ingot ratio from 1 to 5 or 10. Or you just can do it yourself by writing a simple mod.
Valheim: well too bad, the biome you want is 3 days of sailing away and the trader can only be found in the edge of the map naked viking man: *Realm hopping it is.*
As a solo player on day 389, I found out that making a new world, put your loot in it, then log out back into your world, go through portal and save there, go back into your new world grab your loot, head back to your main world, trust me, sailing is fine getting there, but damn back and forth gets very boring after about 100 times
have you seen Klaw DreadKlaw playing the game, he live streams all his Valheim, good bad and indifferent, no time lapsing, no editing, and it is done all Live and in person. He met a few people, from the chat in his streaming, and now has a team playing. So, Iron is very very precious on his map. They may just have to do this, in order to get enough to kit out the four warriors in the game playing right now. So I agree, this is a nice exploit, and it isn't like cheating at all. Because Vikings go raiding other countries, and clans all the time. So, I see it as fair game.
@@maiden4meldin69 I mean it defiantly is a cheese, defending that is kinda unrealistic as you are server hoping and seed abusing. That would be like saying building a crater under bosses to exploit the fact that they cant attack vertically and hitting them without them hitting you back or loging out to prevent a death and heal up isn't a cheese lol. But there is nothing wrong with playing how you want to play, the game is also in early access and seeds are random(to an extent) and as time goes on the devs will fix these things if they dont like people abusing them(like preventing logout during combat and adding more vertical damage splash to bosses). So there very might well be an imbalance with the amount of iron you need to progress in your seed or even in general. To each their own, we all enjoy and support the game so no reason to bash anyone for playing how they like when it doesnt affect you.

Yeah there are a few exploits in Valheim. There is realm-hopping to avoid death or move resources, firing an arrow in sneak and then leaving troll caves and doing it repeatedly to make it impossible for him to hit you, building bases on small islands covered in work benches so raids can't spawn any mobs, and the various farming exploits that can give you endless meat or an army of two star wolves lol That's what makes this game awesome. It has so much to offer for so many in my opinion. If you're a fanatic like me that has over a thousand game days in a smaller private realm with four people, you might not mind sailing around with a hold of ore, killing sea serpents and even messing around building a refining station closer to a large swamp. Or if you don't have time for that, you can use exploits to skip the bits you find boring, tedious or frustrating and go hell and leather for Yagluth. In a nutshell, everyone plays it how they like and hopefully has fun along the way... I hope they add more content before I go insane hahaha.
This! I play valheim just to play. It is grindy and frustrating, but fun. My gameplay is 50% grind, 30% build, 15% quest, and 5% exploration, and I'm all in for it...Anyways, still sane bud?
On a side note. For those of you who want to mine the iron of your own world. You can put a portal. Mine the iron, log off and join another server with a chest. Dump your iron, logoff again and teleport back to your base. Log off, go into the world with the chest full of iron and bring it back to your world.
That looks more ethic and less time consumping. I think on this problem too much, and the most ethical and practical solution that I found is not making the main base until finding a land which is close to both mountain and swamp biomes. For this, you need to use valheim map generator tool to plan your travels. However I liked your idea more than mine so I'll give it a try. Thanks!
It seems the seed has changed a bit since this video was posted but it still has a massive swamp with lots of crypts and the like within walking distance, the directions just changed. Go north from the sacrificing stones, then when you hit a small river, cross it. From there, start to go north west (follow the shore to the west if you need to and you) and you will find another river, cross that one as well. Follow the shoreline west through the black forest and you will hit the swamp area. Side note, the black forest area that you enter after crossing the second river, has a mountain with a massive silver vein. Figured I would mention that in case people were having a hard time finding silver like I am. I hope this helps.
@@ryanmccarthy7866 I can't log in right now from what I remember, from spawning at the stones in the meadows, you will stay in the meadows until you cross the second river, then you should enter the black forest if you start to follow the short line to the west and stay in black forest until you hit swamp. You will know you are in the right place as if you go slightly north west after you cross the second river, you will enter a mountain biome.
5:55 You don't have to open passage to a monster to kill it. Just start breaking the mud pile enough to aggro the mobs on the other side and to be relatively close to them, then use your Stagbreaker to kill the mobs with AoE damage. The stagbreaker won't damage mud piles.
@@nocantryI died 4 times by a 2 star drauger that was stuck in a corner of a crypt before I remembered the stagbreaker. I was then able to easily kill it without even entering the chamber. I was kicking myself for not remembering it earlier.

As a solo its good. I love the game but the hauling grind doesn't add anything. It's still half the grind finding and stacking everything but I love using this method. Might have lost interest otherwise.
I like having to find new mining locations and then making another base somewhere else for the immersion of it as well lol. Love the building in this game
people forget that playing games is meant to be fun by your own standards, if you don't find server hopping fun don't do it, it's that simple really. people should always play a game for what makes it enjoyable to them.
That is absolutely fine, what shouldnt be fine is promoting and encouraging these exploits. When they get fixed it only gives the game an unfair bad name.
@@NomadUniverse but its not a MMO. Its not a problem to use server hopping solo or with friends. Its like shaming people for cheats in Skyrim. And even on public servers this way geared players is not a big problem. IMHO

"cheating" so you don't have to spend more time doing x y or z is your decision. and it's using in game mechanics at that there's no harm done to any players. in fact it helps players by being able to bring things over from a different server to help their buddies out.

A lot of people saying this is cheating, but this a simple and unique mechanic that already exists in the game, its not an exploit or something. I never did that, but after you do 1 or 2 trips to a really far away place, and u only have like 1 hour to play the game per day, you start considering it, since some trips can take like 30 minutes or more, i mean, you already experienced the travel and all the smelting process, if you really enjoy it, nice, keep doing, i like the travel mechanic, but after you do the same process 2 times or more, it can get annoying.

I said that, after you do the same hugely TIME CONSUMING traveling process over and over (which is pretty nice, but not when u do this over and over and over for the same thing), it can get boring and put you aside from the main thing that you want to acomplish on that day. I dont agree that it is a cheating process, the whole traveling with itens with your character from world to world is possible by the own game structure, its really different from inputing commands on console, because you didnt fight for the resources, and didnt even collect the resources, by using console.
I took 2 trips to the swamp for iron and was able to build most of the things I want. Doing this strategy now for upgrading. As long as you've done the hard way before I don't see this as a bad thing.
@@epic1link that's what I mean! You already experienced the travel thing, you know how it is! And it's fun the 1st or 2nd time you do it, but not 10 times because you have 6 ppl on your server and u guys need A LOT of resources. It's already hard to have everyone online at the same time.
For those of you who are getting "the wrong seed", you need to explore farther north west. If you say you are getting a mountain biome, it is in fact the correct seed. You have only misjudged the pathing direction. the difference is, you are misinterpreting the distance of travel on the map. It looks a lot shorter than it really is. I tried this seed 3 times before i just said screw it and kept trecking on. I began to see more similarities and eventually did reach the swamp not too long after. Also his map is shown at night time which does make a difference in the way the terrain is shown on the map, so the river that you get to the north just after spawning does look deceiving on his map and is quite clear on the daytime map. By the time you reach the swamp in day 1 it should be getting close to nighttime.
Maybe I'm just the special person here, but I explored too far northwest based on his non existent rivers and explanation in his video. I had to explore more northeast (far side of the bay). Thing is exploring TOO FAR north west ran me into mountain biome. Not north east. Perhaps north east takes you to mountains as well? i definitely saw the biome in the distance.
@@justindoohan7956 the seed is slightly different from the video but it works. Just head north. Get pass that snow biome however you can, once you do pivot NW and you'll find the ocean. after passing through darkwoods you'll find the swamp. Trust me, I thought the seed was broken too but it's just different with that snow biome
I'd love to see different portal ranks, that allow upgraded transports. So your basic portal won't be able to transport ore, but then maybe a portal that can do copper and tin, then one that can do iron and silver, etc... OR, just let people transport ore. I was doing this same thing to skirt the port restriction, and it's so much faster than using a cart, or setting up secondary bases.
@@AdmiralArchon Yeah, it's kind of funny that you can't port metal, but you can then make a suit of armor out of it, and that will transport just fine. I've just seen a ton of people use another server to unload, then transport, then reload. Time to let us move the ore.
The reason you can’t port with metal, ask yourself why. The game is designed and balanced around this idea, you have carts and boats to haul metal, yes it’s difficult, yes it’s supposed to be. Not every game is supposed to be easy. Play how it’s fun for you but I don’t personally enjoy skipping a huge portion of a game just to save myself time, if I wanted to save myself time I wouldn’t be playing video games, I’m playing the game to play the game, not to skip through as much of the game as I can, where the fun in that

Lets be honest, we all thought of doing this at some point, i never did it cuz it would ruin the immersion and i wanted to play the game the way it was meant to be played, so i could give better feedback about the game, but now with over 100 hours into the game, i wouldn't mind doing this for sure.
Honestly if you read about the way Yggrasil works in Norse mythology you could see that the devs probably actually intended for us to do this. Don't think of it as "cheesing valheim", think of it as traveling to another branch of the tree in search of treasures. I also play with a group of 8 people and we're finding it extremely hard to progress through the iron part of the game because you need an insane amount to cap out armor and weapons for 8 people, so I really have no issues with poaching it from other worlds. For each of us to have iron armor we need 150 for each person, meaning we need 1200 iron. That's not even factoring in tools or weapons. I'm pretty sure all the iron in my world is gone now, and we haven't been able to even find another swamp to get it from, so this might literally be my only option anyway.
@@Malgana Jesus. Considering how I've gone through like 300+ copper and 150+ Tin, imagine how much Bronze 8 people would need. LOL That's the worst grind in this game so far.
That was my approach too, I didn’t start doing this until sinking 150 hours in and beating the game. Even then we still enjoy a boat journey laden with black metal.
You don't actually need the Swamp key to get into crypts. You can either dig underneath them so you can get beneath and interact with the entrance, or place a chair in front of the closed off gate in a way that will make your character clip through it when you get out of the chair.
I mean if you're using off main servers for resources just spawn the items in... You're going to an easy place to get a hard resource and you're still being inefficient. If you're gonna be cheesy be cheesy.
they made the chair thing much harder to pull off you need to use the chair and portals now from what i understand... it is not hard to get the key, the elder is not that tough. who wants to dig in the swamp?! i don't get these exploits, but then again i enjoy sailing...
I mean, since this is basically cheating, I just spawn iron in instead of wasting time hopping. Would be a good work around if achievements were a thing though.

@@kirkvanallen5202 Maybe you don't know, but a while ago 10 minutes requirement to get more adds was lowered to 8 minutes. And yeah, when the answer to the question can literally be explained in 1 minute, making 8 minute video on this topic isn't a great idea.
Because you still need to go over there/explore , get in danger, mine/harvest. Only thing your skipping is the somewhat boring part (especially if you play solo). Spawning it in, is actually cheating. But if you just want to build something nice or whatever, it is a nice way to be able to spawn it in. So to each his own. But there is a difference between world hopping and spawning it in.
@@NotClosedMinded I mean... the game already tells you you can't use a portal to transfer metals so world hopping is clearly not intended game experience and you're using a VERY unintended (unintended as a way to experience the game) and efficient shortcut. That's the point of the comment above. It's basically saying If you're willing to use such shortcuts why not use the ultimate. Is it cause one shortcut is less cheating than the other? Why does that matter? You've already crossed that line when you decided to ignore the game mechanics that indicate that you are not meant to teleport metals from one point to another. Btw i have no problem with people using that method. There's nothing more valuable than your time and you choose how to spend it and enjoy thingsand i could easily see myself doing that if it gets too tedious. Just don't pretend that somehow this is different than a mod that allows you to pass metals through portals. In principle you're still skipping an obstacle the game put there for you to experience with means that are not technically ingame.
@aggsar I think the devs should fix this. Just make it impossible by creating seeds with server-side characters. And make portals configurable at the start. Either no-portals, current portals, and ore capable portals. Making portals mistlands tier items could also be nice, as it is basically magic and makes it an option only available late game.
I look at it like NotCloseMinded. I get to play the crypt which I like, without the hassle of skulking in the swamps which I hate. I played through the swamps the right way once and I got sick of it. The visibility, frequent abomination, always raining. For me it's that one biome I don't look forward to every playthrough.
@@aggsar4411 so why does my armor get teleported it's made of that same metal? Why do my weapons teleport when they are also made of metal? Why if I hit the ingot with a hammer it's now (according to the game) not metal? I agree with all the other stuff you cant teleport, but metals makes absolutely zero sense.
Just finished up mining and lugging 1000+ iron across the map. Shit nearly brings you to tears how long it takes. This method is definitely streamlined but a little immersion breaking. What I wish I'd done is take lots of wood and stone, found and mapped all the crypts before hand, and make a central storage base with roads raised out of the swamp with the stone/hoe. Then carting it to the ocean for a trip home. Would have saved me so much time.
@@pimi8522 I think it’s fine when that resource is the main thing needed but to have to do it with every ore and every ingot forever is ridiculous. Does the mod work for multiplayer?
@@maxgolden8060 It's an incomplete game atm. Maybe future plans require these resources to not be easily transported. I say exploit anything you want since it's in beta, the devs can choose later if they want to patch these exploits. I'm sure they're thankful to have their player base make them aware of them.
This is what i did to transfer metals, mainly because the only difference it makes is saving a shit ton of time, i didnt feel like i was cheating more so just saving my time. Sometimes it takes a good 15minutes to take your boat back, and all that is just time wasted because nothing eventful happens. So i still played the game the way i was supposed to i just didnt wanna spend hours and hours doing nothing but going back and forth transfering everything by boat.

@@holydarkness6007 I'll admit, I used cheats "just once" because I died in a dungeon and couldn't remember where I went, and had no gear to help me get there. Used god mode to get my stuff back and now I'm spawning in bits and pieces all the time. Trying to limit it as much as possible and justify it as "just saving time in places", but beating the game with no cheats does seem more satisfying.
It feels satisfying returning with a boat full of ore. Logging out and logging back in removes a core aspect of the game. I get why it works, but I wonder if they’ll keep this in game.
It’s your prerogative, the devs will give you the freedom to make it easier or ruin the game for yourself, you’ll only end up locking yourself when you complete the game and feel unsatisfied
searching for a new swamp is what sucks, but the adventure is some fun, and once you get to silver iron isn't as important, I just wish there was a better way to get iron, because sure sometimes it can spawn underground in swamps, but you can't exactly dig into water.....
I recommend just having a world to store unteleportable items. and whenever you become encumbered you log out and log in to the chest world, and store your stuff. After that you can just return to what you were doing, also you can just do it again if need be. once your done looting you return to you homebase and do some item transferring in-between worlds
You can buy an item from the trader that gives you more strength, which equals an extra 150 carrying weight. Forget the name of the item, but it’s description states it gives you added strength. Plus it doesn’t replace armour like the headlight does.
Yes! Grinding trolls and crypts hard to buy the belt was rough. It feels SO good to have that weight limit up to something reasonable. Can carry all normal gear plus 3 stacks of wood or stone and pick up random hunting loot too? AAahhhhh yes.
You could either do this neat little trick, or... > Call some friends, hop in a boat and travel to the swamps. Maybe you're lucky and meet a serpent along the way! > Stop at the coast, fight the first few enemies that usually spawn. You'll need the loot for sausages anyway. > Build a little dock and a base of operations. Add a portal to your home-base for simple tool-repairs, light a campfire in an enclosed space or even a bonfire. Make yourself comfortable! > Start out by scavenging the area, find crypts and farm up as much iron as you can hold. You'll probably find a chest somewhere, so dump your items in there for the time being. > Dip back to base of operations, throw your iron in there, and get bacc to the crypts. Eikthyr is a big help, time your cooldown with your friends! > Get as much as you want/need, store it all into the ship and prepare to return to your home lands. > BONUS: While on water, go to youtube and play Sea shanties, the pirates of the caribbean songs, or even the fail flute version of any sort! Valheim is such a great game because you can find enjoyment in the little things. I have nothing against people using your little server-hop trick. But honestly, by abusing this trick, all you do is getting iron faster while making the process lackluster, boring and more of a chore than it has to be.
Its more boring to go back and forth multiple time, especially when my fucking swamps have no crypts. Wasting 2h to 3h for nothing. I am a solo and I've done it your way, a couple of time. Its time consuming and exhausting. I rather just pop in and out, and get my shit done. The game is tedious, they should just simply allow us to teleport ore and skip the time consuming sailing.
@@21preend42 mod the game my man, or play something else. The game is designed around the difficulty and tedium so as to encourage base building and planning infrastructure. What are you even playing the game for if not to sail, drink mead and conquer harsh lands? If you are getting exhausted with a game then simply move on.
@21PreEnd you don't go back and forth multiple times. You go to an island next to your base, look for crypts, and maybe load up your boat. Then you go to the next island, load your boat, then the next, etc, etc. Making a round trip visiting many islands and swamps, and depending on progression, perhaps mountains/plains too. Adding stuff to your boat each time, then you come back with such an insane stack you don't need to go out for quite some time. Instead of travelling back and forth each time, you actually just make 1 trip where you visit multiple islands. You would have thought of this if you didn't cheat because it would occur to you naturally. The alternative to cheats isn't necessarily tedium. It's thinking outside the box and doing some logistics. which is actually intellectually engaging.
@@dekippiesip What I do is not cheating, and many others do as well. The developers could have just taken out the feature to carry resources between world, but haven't for a reason. It's called thinking outside the box ;)
The beauty of UA-cam is if you don't like a video don't watch it. This video is super helpful to me who is currently carrying a server of 10 on their back and I am full time in University. The problem that the game creates is there is priority placed onto the first person to gather resources. I was the first person on the server to get iron and other basic resources so as I grabbed up all the close iron copper and tin. It becomes increasingly difficult for other people on the server to find these resources now, to the point of it being virtually unplayable. The time sink is immense and for people who have work, school, and actual commitments it in untenable. Now for me it is alright cause I have what I need and I am pushing into later game materials. But for my friends who are still working on the bronze and iron ages finding resources becomes a huge feat. Like I get it if boat travel was easy, but it is time consuming and boring. Do I enjoy it? Yes! I don't mind the gameplay loop. But for people who are starting out in my server it becomes harder and harder for them to find the resources they need in order to progress. So I think this video is incredibly helpful. The argument of cheating or not seems stupid to me. If you are on a PVP server make your own rules. But there is no reason for you to go around tryina shame people for just trying to improve the gameplay of the game for themselves and their friends. No one is hurt by their actions so what is the point in making the argument? Is it an exploit? Sure. Are exploits cheating? I don't think so. If the devs don't like it the devs can fix it. Problem solved. Until then if my friends need help ima recommend them this video.

But if you do this on a server where cheating / exploit abuse is specifically not allowed, you're just an ass. "I'm allowed to cheat because I don't have the time to do it legit" is a very weak excuse and certainly not fair to other players. Fair players try to sell iron for say 5 coins per piece since it's hard to get. In comes the cheater that sells tons more for next to nothing since they have an unlimited supply that holds no value at all to them because of that. Fair players try to farm for hours to meet market demands and in come the cheaters to just instantly saturate the market. But it's fine because they just don't have time, right?
This method could have been explained in half a minute tops, the bloat is insane. 1. Find a seed online with a swamp close to spawn (this vid's description) and create a new world using this seed 2. Load your character with the necessary items; pickaxe, food+mead, swampkey, and weapon of choice 3. Enter the new world you created and go to the swamp, mine some iron scrap in a crypt 4. Logout, enter your "main" world 5. Dump the scraps in a chest 6. Rinse and repeat Equip Megingjord as well if you have access to it. If you haven't found the merchant yet, go explore (or find a seed with the trader close to spawn i guess).
I thought this was going to be clickbait, but this turned out to be a GREAT tip. I remember hating getting iron when I was playing solo. The swamp kicked my but, and its dark and damp and I generally hate it there (but playing with friends makes it a lot more fun). I actually stopped playing my solo run before getting enough iron to kill bonemass because it was such an impossible chore. This is a GREAT tip and wish it was more well know for new players.
Getting iron while solo is extremely tedious (especially if, like for myself, the nearest swamp is an ocean away from the OPPOSITE side of your home island), doesn't help that so far I've only found a single crypt in my nearest swamp
This is useful for some, good solution too. What I do is I sail along the coast to the swamp area, I get my ship as close to the Swamp Dungeon as I can. In my boat I bring ressources to make a portal and 3 stacks of wood. I make a little 3x3 on the staircase of the entrance to the dungeon and set the portal up in there. I then go mine and loot and store the iron in the hut outside, bring all other loot home through the portal and repair my pickaxe while i'm there. I go back and forth until the dungeon is empty, then load up the ship with the iron, tear down the house and head home. I have one portal at my home just named "Temp" and I use that to have an easy way home whenever, and I store the items to make the portal at all times in the boat. 4 - 6 hours of grinding and I had all my armor iron and maxed out and other bits and bops. But that's just how I like to play. Each to their own, no hate.
Oh I even have my wold work in such a way that I have to travel quite far to both the bosses and the biomes to reach the next levels. And then I spent several hours almost crushing my longship by serpents, trolls and deathsquitos until I found Haldor, found an epic river that connected two seas, found a swamp in the middle of a sea while travelling home (low water level, ground has a layer of water above and draugr walking over it), thats where I actually rammed a bunch of draugr with my ship, that felt very satisfying, and came back with like 3% health for my ship, no arrows and my ship full of loot. That was an amazing adventure. Spawning almost tight next to a swamp and a boss altar for both The Elder and Bonemass can be extremely boring. I had to spend like 35 game hours before I could reach The Elder, it was like in the area between the center and the edge of the map. And Bonemass almost at the edge of the map. Getting to bonemass was the longest journey, and the most risky one. A bunch of brute fellings almost obliterated my ship.
@@dooorwedge You are confusing possibility and intent. It's intentional to transfer your character through world with his gear so you don't have to start from scratch each time. It's not intentional to break the weight control / stamina penalty using it. And the ores are not fast travel item. going out of your way to fast travel them anyway is game mechanics breaking. It's not because it's technically possible that you are not cheating. It's technically possible for a human to take drugs that up his strength and stamina, it's still cheating to do it in sports.
The devs are actually very strong about not letting players teleport ores. They really want to put more emphasis on exploration within the next updates. This exploits will definitely get patched for sure. Maybe they won't allow your character to world swap unless you logged off at the start. I'm down with the no teleport concept but at least make traveling faster. Bosses should be passive buffs and not active.
Well, its been a year and like 8 patches so... they haven't patched it out. Also, I saw on some interview that the devs have gone back and fourth about teleporting ore and have always been on the fence about it. I dunno what you mean by them being very against it. Plus, how would you actually police against it?
@@nuahavizu I was basing my comment around the big Q&A they did on reddit. They do it every once in a while. They were very much against it at first. I haven't followed their thoughts ever since. Good thing it was not patched, regarding the exploits. I am 400 hours into this game and the grind is really making this game less fun. Has huge potential, hope they find a way to balance things out until the full release.
As per the developers...seed generation is random and varied. Some seeds will have large amounts of specific resources and others will not(standard algorithm 0-100% distribution per resource spawn, possibility exists to have very minimal resource spawn.)hence why you are given the ability to travel between multiple seed worlds.
i agree, i dont personally play with others - i just want a relaxing time when i get home from a 10 hr day and spent like 3 weeks building my first castle/keep which is 4 stories high and i used at least 10+ carts full of stone to make it which i gathered all myself. once the castle got to the 4th story i could not finish the very top since i needed iron to make beams, a lot of beams!! that and upgrading items had me like only getting 10 or 20 iron at a time one a boat and i was like wtf this is forever and a day and i only get like 4 hours a day of play time.... so using other seeds to gather resources is i think fine - there is still a lot of added danger in this since the new world has no bases, you have never explored it so other dangers exist.... if you die here it can be VERY bad!!!
@@michaelforsythe4335 at that point just cheat for real, use console commands to spawn in shit. Its all the same, still cheating in my eyes. I just hate how Iron Gate does its progression scaling, they just wanna squeeze out as many hours as possible out of their playerbase.
@@magnesjberg24 It's annoying because Valheim is not a subscription game, so there's no good reason to just waste the time of the players with a lot of tedious backtracking. It doesn't encourage exploration, since almost all players will haul their materials back the way they came. It's not a challenge for most players, either, since most will set up shacks along the way for shelter and will not transport stuff at night It's a waste of time. However, to not mess with the "game balance" too much, I just installed the Advanced Portals instead of a "teleport everything" mod. It allows me to progress through different stages of portal capability so there's still *some* grind.
I discovered this technique as well. After spending a ridiculous amount of time on my seed just looking for an adequate swamp biome and failing (and dying a lot) I ended up just relocating to a new seed and starting over. I used this technique to sort of get me caught back up to where I was but it felt cheap so after I felt like I caught myself up to where I should have been I continued with the normal method of using my longboi. So IMO it's a useful technique for specific situations if the hunt for something is becoming too tedious or if like me you feel the need to start over with a new seed but I would use it very sparingly or it sort of makes the game pointless.
Another good trick for lots of iron without doing any fuck thing is joining other servers and looking for scrap. Instant black metal and some crystal here and there. The power of communism.
I've been doing this for a bit now hahaha! I have my main world I build on and a bunch of other worlds for various things. One world is dedicated to a merchant so I can login right next to him, buy/sell what I need, and disappear back into the multiverse.
This mechanic of a persistent character and gear that can travel between world's is intentional. It may require tweaking to keep it from being OP but this is what it is now.
I think with carts and boats this is not needed, but indeed a cool trick. We play on a server with5-8 people and we all have upgraded iron and the journeys we go on to get the iron are what makes the game amazing :) Thank you for the video though, this will really help out other people
Crypts are so boring. You have to click on mud piles in the dark forever and ever. It's not even dangerous, just tedious. I just want to pull my eyes out.
wanna do this even faster? if you have ore on your person. bring a cart to a portal. obviously, you can't use the portal with ore in YOUR inventory, but... if you place the ore inside the cart, open the CART's inventory, and keep it open as you enter the portal, you can quickly transfer the ore into YOUR inventory while you are actively being transported.
So, I've explored about 10 swamps on my server and found exactly one crypt. So until this is patched to find crips in every swamp I do not mind cheating. I do not want to play a game for two or three real days and still not have any of the next material that I need to upgrade
@@Agent_Orange87 Everybody should play the game the way they wish. You bought it, do what you like. My point is more like if you are talking about how to get around game mechanics, you should also mention console commands. It,s much more comfortable than logging on and off from different worlds.
Dude, I spent 2 hours hauling 154 iron ingots back home. I considered just crafting the forge and a base near swamps after that, but now I know about this . It's going to save me a lot of time for doing the fun things in the game . Especially because I don't get much game time in the week.
@@yamchayaku personally, sailing home on a boat full to the rim with ore I just gathered, seeing the nice dock and base I built from the distance already, are the moments I play the game for. I would probably consider using this exploit too if I didn't have any crypts left on my map but wtf how much have you guys been farming on your server, I play with 2 friends and we didn't even finish one swamp yet and we're all geared up on armour/stations etc.
This 100% works like a charm, you just have to keep in mind that your map won't look EXACTLY the same. Get to the same general area that he is following his path as best you can, and, if you typed it in correctly (both the seed and Swamp2 in my case) there WILL be a nearby swamp to the northwest and there are TONS of crypts. already cleared 3 myself. Not sure if this counts as cheating but 1: load up a new world 2: build a chest and put your ores in them 3: log back into your main world and go through portal 4: go into other world and collect ores
Or you could just start your game on a seed that is guaranteed to have an abundance of important metals not too far from your spawn point. HHcLC5acQt has four of the five bosses on your starting continent, which also has three large swamps with several crypts in them, and large mountain biomes featuring several silver veins that you are able to spot without a wishbone, because they stick out of the mountain sides and peaks. It also has the trader to the southwest of the starting spawn in a darkforest between two mountain ranges, and an abandoned village with a maypole can be found if you follow the coast near the spawn point to the east. All biomes are on the starting continent, with plains to the far south, and Yagluth is on the western neighboring island. You‘ll also discover fire geysirs in the larger swamps that you can use to farm surtling cores. You‘ll not need to use an exploit if you choose your seed wisely at the start of your playthrough.
My friends and I were having the worst time gathering enough iron for everyone so I suggested this and they were cool with it. I stopped playing about two weeks after launch though because I have a physical disability that makes me need a lot of sleep and down time [aka not doing anything like gaming] so I kept getting further and further behind, feeling like a mule for ore since no one else wanted to take the couple minutes to log out, drop the ore in their solo base, log back in, tele to multi-player base, log out, log in solo, grab ore, log out back in multi, and ore is at base. So I really... haven't touched the game... not even solo. I really just prefer building anyway and while this game has amazing building mechanics, the progression to get better and better stuff is annoying to me. That's how I am in most games. In WoW I really prefer gathering and crafting, collecting rare pets and mounts, stuff like that. Honestly... I started playing Classic and the idea of BC raiding intimidates me because of how much sleep and rest I need... Sorry for the non-Valheim talk xD
the easiest not cheese way to get a lot of iron fast is to get portals and boat, go to a swamp and find all the crypts, farm all the crypts while going to your base to drop some items and then getting all the iron to the boat (you can leave chests in the crypts and mark them in the map to get later), it is kinda time consuming but it is faster than your example, also you dont lose the best part of valheim, the adventure
The people saying that "True Vikings sail and loot! This is for cheaters!" know jack shit about actual Vikings. Not even 5% of Scandinavians had set a foot on another land in the 900s - 1100s, they hadn't even sailed a boat either. 90% of their lives revolved around farming and upkeep of their homes. This is like saying everyone in the Caribbeans were pirates, no they weren't, idiots. The Developers of this game made it a GRIND to bring back Ores, for no reason. You had to already travel to a swamp, by boat, place portals, and mine the ore. Why the hell would they then add an element of GRIND to bring back that Ore? It's like an Anti-Quality of Life feature that they implemented. Makes me fucking angry when people play 3 Viking Themed games and watch 1 episode of "Vikings" and believe they know shit about actual Viking History.
In the mistlands you can destroy brige structures by placing a stonecutter, removing the marble and destroying the iron Walls by hand (takes about 7 hits). Do this at the bottom to let everything collaps and you get about 100 Black marble sind 40 SMELTED IRON.😮 Bit you will need to Explorer the mistlands.
People enjoy playing different aspects of the games all the comments hating on this are really dumb. It’s like when I played Skyrim I’ve played it so much and I got bored playing it normally. So I added mods then I got bored of the mods so I started just using silly exploits to get as overpowered as possible and I love that more than both the others. The ability play a game the way you like it is what makes this home so beautiful don’t be hateful about this persons methods just play it your way and move on. Great video btw
Play how you want to play. I personally don't do this type of "Shortcuts" anymore because I progress too fast and get tired of the game once I have everything. I learned my lesson from doing similar exploits in Terraria and Minecraft.
If you think harvesting iron is annoying wait till you need to get silver, and have drakes, wolfs and stone golems spawning every time you hit the pickaxe, and then you have to travel to sea so you can bring the stuff with you cause there's no way you will be doing a base near stone golems, and if you'r lucky you will have a black forest between the mountain and the sea, in my case is almost only the plains, and good luck if you find the freaking fulings
build earthen walls for your base and the mobs will not attack it. they will attack anything you make but raising earthen walls counts as land. You can stand at the top and shoot them in the head.
I happened to find a swamp with enough crypts to supply my iron needs forever, maybe 20 mins away from main base, not too bad to spend a day mining and filling the longship with iron and sailing back instead of seed hopping. But nice trick I guess, would probably ruin the game for me tho. No need for ppl to be butthurt tho since theres always debugmode aswell..
I know. But as I said the swamp has lifetime supply of iron. Many boatloads of crypts there still. Unless I go insane with iron poles but I doubt. Currently working on second load for just building/decoration as the first load lasted me long enough to fully upgrade padded armor.
@@nazoth285 it actually hasn’t it’s just that the river isn’t apparent in the video. Keep heading north west. If you hit the snowy mountains biome turn further west.
If you are doing this, you might as well spawn the items with console commands, the whole point of going thru a dungeon is to safely make it back with all your battle earnings, and you will have way more fun that way.
hopefully someday the amount of ore that can be hauled on a boat will increase...I dislike logging out on one server and in on the main one..but I do it, but it also breaks the immersion of the game for me.
Solo I just longboat it back to base. Usually 1 boat full takes care of my iron needs. With friends I do the logout trick because it calls for a godly amount of iron. Unless we go full role play. Just play how y’all want. Have fun. If you play with friends take more boats. If you don’t wanna cheese. Did this also. 2 long boats complete full was more iron then we ever needed.
Literally just make a long boat. It can carry a lot of stuff on it and is much faster than the karve. Karves should be able to carry enough iron for you to make the nails needed for a long boat.
@@clarkkent1521 The only thing you can accuse a seedhopper of doing is getting to point A from point B faster. It's not like we don't put the work in too. I've explored at least 20+ crypts and gotten full iron gear the same way you did. I'm just fed up with an hour long trip for each iron run. What was the point of them making portals and then literally making the heaviest items non teleportable?
I don’t think you can use debug mode if you don’t own the server, this doesn’t matter if you’re solo but if you are with a group unless you just want one person to fly back in forth with everything while everyone else is just kind of there then idk be my guest
this is NOT the viking way the Viking way: 1. sail the vast seas in search of new lands 2. find swamp and make a camp with a portal and spiked walls. 3. explore swamp and mark all the crypts on the map 4. get your hoe out and lay the most efficient path connecting each crypt. 5. build a cart and fill it with ore as you mine each crypt. 6. cart all your ore back to your camp and load the ship. 7. return home like a true viking. 8. BONUS TIP. take your portal with you to each crypt and place it on top of the crypt so you can easily repair and rest at home in between each crypt.
Ok so spending 40 hours just getting a bit of iron back and forth is fun. Finding a process to still have the experience is not the same as typing into the console and giving yourself any item you want.
@@newman6434 Thank you. I plan all my expeditions like military campaigns. It's more than half the fun. I literally build a workbench and forge at these satellite bases- all you need to do is bring a bit of copper and coal. The rest of the stuff is incredibly easy to find. Build a wee little base of operations and go to town mining.
@@Fleonwyn that too is just extra steps. If youre gonna cheat, just cheat. Though i agree that Portals should be able to tp ores, just balance it abit, like make Portals more expensive. I hate how the devs intentionally make the game such a huge time sink, i love the game, but it is just rediculous at times, and it gets repetitiv fast, especially if you got bad rng. That mod is great for servers with friends, cus when you implement more people it gets more tedious to get every player what they need in terms of gear, and sometimes it gets hard to match up with your friends to play at the same time, especially for adults who have responsibilities every day. Tl dr: devs want the game to waste as much of your time it can
on our server we have wiped out like seven swamps most of our iron comes from the mist lands now i feel like the iron requirements vs drop rate is way out of wack
I agree that this subtracts from the gameplay slightly. I've been hauling iron for 6-7 hoursas a solo, but I can guarantee now I'm going to use this method.
I agree iron needs to be tweaked in some way. Here are some options: 1. make iron scrap lighter so i can complete a crypt in one run and move on. Running back to a crypt 3 times is not exploring, its busy work. (this could also be accomplished by making iron scrap produce 3 ingots, and just putting (1/3) as much iron scrap in the crypts.) 2. add an upgraded portal that can portal copper tin and iron. This is a cool idea, but more impactful and the devs likely dont want this. 3. make iron ingots lighter, which would more incentivize smelting in the swamp. It would also mean you dont have to be encumbered just build a sword, which feels silly.
This is what I started doing after finding two swamps that had no places to get iron. I just found another one on my main map, so if it has iron, I will farm from there.
Just started playing again after a long absence from the game, not sure I ever played any of the named updates. I forgot that this was even a thing, even having a world still labeled resources pre-mistlands. Thanks for the reminder.
I was reading comments and people seem NOT to know that you actually DO NOT need to go into the crypts to farm iron... I found this by pure accident, those piles of iron that you find inside the crypts are also scattered throughout the swamp ground, so you can farm iron just like silver!!! Its even easier to find the iron mines by just running along a hill or mountain that borders the swamp or is part of the swamp.
I just find one of the abandoned circular stone bases in the swamp and setup a smelting base there. If you’re switching between seeds you might as well use dev command and give yourself iron ingots.
Because it's not the same. You still have to fight monsters and try to stay alive, and dying on another map really, really sucks if you don't have a base built there. I have made more than a few corpse runs doing this. The main reason I did this is because I couldn't find any crypts to mine iron from on my map. The swamps were all empty. The only thing you are losing this way is the tedious run back to your base.

Alright some I’m 430 days into the game and didn’t start watching videos till recently. This video is SO legit. I’ve got massive bases all over my original map because I had the Worst seed for swamps had to travel to 5 large islands across oceans all over to find a swamp big enough to have just one crypt. No joke traveled through 6 different swamps to find one crypt. This was extremely helpful for my case scenario. Thank you for finding this for us
I did something similar to this. I made a 2nd world, complete with a building filled with chests and max-level work stations. I raid a crypt, log out, stash my loot and repair. Then log back in with a empty inventory, max health and repaired gear.
Thanks for this tip. Im a fulltime student and have a part time job, so I only have a few hours a week when I can play this and grinding for iron had made this game turn dull for me. I also recently got killed at the swamp and essentially lost all my progress as I was wearing all the iron I had mined so far. So using this trick it wont be so hard to get back to where I left off.
I should share my seed - I have a swamp with 10 crypts close to each other and another swamp with another 7 crypts. (And on the starting island, I have loads of copper deposits close by each other.) Bosses (except first one) are far away from spawn, but when farming is made easy, it's still worth it. ^^
I found that since inventory of the character can be transfered to the other maps, choosing map with the seed close to the swamp can in practice be easier than sailing with ship - you always can logout and enter a map with your homebase - transfer ores/scraps and relog to continue with farming
im on a isolated meadow island and have one small black forest and couldn't get the rest of the surtling cores to make a smelter or kiln because the raft simply wont take me to another one and there isn't any other islands as far as the eye can see, this helped so much.
As much as I don't like the idea of doing this and I won't be doing it, the game is a singleplayer/coop experience, there is no "competitive" edge. This is not a bug/glitch (like duplicating etc), the developers made the game this way and I think everyone has to play it how they want. The only thing I wish the devs would do, is add server options so server admins can have control over this. Allow/disallow the ability to make portals/wards, whitelist/blacklist items from being able to be transferred in etc. This would allow communities to decide how they want to play and keep it fair.
Ye but what if I log off with 30 iron and never be able to come back with it again. And disabling wards might seem as a heavy red flag for players who just wanna play in peace. I think the game is heavily designed for server play with random folks and nothing should be changed, if you're playing with friends just agree on communism like I do with mine.
Different people have fun in different ways. While some might enjoy having to travel for hours to get materials back, others just want to get the grind over as quick as possible to enjoy other parts like the next boss or base building. I don't mind the travel, but this game is VERY grindy to the point that it becomes unenjoyable for many. I have a friend that quit the game at the bronze grind, and that was near base, so you can imagine how many people will be turned of by having to travel longs distances just to get their materials back to the base. I believe making more parts of the game customizeable could make the game enjoable for more people, having options for smaller worlds is the best example I can think of, Terraria does that and it works really well for that game.
@@NamelessOne91 Why even play this game if you don't like gathering resources? I mean, by all means go on, but this isn't a content driven game. If you wanna do base building, go creative mode! No need to do tedious exploits when the devs literally gives us a way to do this (because the building system in this game is great imo!). If you want to just do bosses though: why even buy this game? There are currently only 5 bosses out there, and you can easily blast through the content in 4-5 hours if you push for it. This game is all about exploration, immersive grinding and releasing your creativity with what you gather. If that's not your style, there are plenty of other, far better games for you.
Video could be 2 mins long. So get iron. Log out. Log into a second server. Store ores. Log out. Log into main server. Go back through portal. Log out and grab or from other server. Go home. Smelt ores. Easy no bullshit from video.
Awesome, Thanks for this. I play solo and was about ready to give up on the game because I don't have the time to haul copper back to my base let alone iron!! It it absolutely ******** that you can't carry ore through the portal! (for me it is a minimum 20 minute walk back to base with my copper!)
This is one of the things I don’t like about valhiem, the fact you can come into a server and basically push the entire server to the max gear and ores. This method for farming def makes it easier but the whole grind is one of the things I enjoy about the game. Having to work logistics, deal with enemies, having to haul is part of the intended game. This whole process while intended and permitted, is so cheap and the whole combat logging just shows you really don’t know how to play the game. You can put a bed outside the crypt before you go in… and just go run to get your stuff. It’s not that hard really.
I wont feel like a viking if i'm not coming back on my ship full of loot :(

Was watching youtube while home from the merchant i did just find, and I didnt take the same way back so tried other way, and that wasnt smart 😂 No shortcuts, i hit the edge of the map and had to go through few rivers with plains biome, you can guess rest.. Wasnt buffed with the food either :(*
They should put advanced portals into the game. Iron-Portal: can teleport iron but needs iron to craft and an ítem from swamp boss. So for the first time you need to do the hauling way, and when it comes to farm lots of iron you can craft the advanced portal. Same for the next ores like silver and so on.

@@notmebro7145 wouldn't waste your time, people have been complaining about that in "Open beta" over a year before iron gate decided to cash grab with early access. Iron gate likes to use vary annoying mechanics to force players into using boats and carts. Which is why portal mods like teleport everything are vary vary popular. We played with it once and we only every used Karvs to scout and place portals that was it, outside of a initial Barnacle run or serpents there was no need to use them at all. We tried V+ but got fed up vary quickly because sailing is painfully boring (Don't think IG realizes viking long boats had a shit loads of oars)

They should simply decrease metal cost for craftables, it is stupid that fully upgraded silver sword consists of 160 silver ingots with total mass of 2240 pounds, and if they want to keep the amount of grind and dungeon exploration in the game - decrease the ore-to-ingot ratio from 1 to 5 or 10.
Or you just can do it yourself by writing a simple mod.

As a solo player on day 389, I found out that making a new world, put your loot in it, then log out back into your world, go through portal and save there, go back into your new world grab your loot, head back to your main world, trust me, sailing is fine getting there, but damn back and forth gets very boring after about 100 times
have you seen Klaw DreadKlaw playing the game, he live streams all his Valheim, good bad and indifferent, no time lapsing, no editing, and it is done all Live and in person. He met a few people, from the chat in his streaming, and now has a team playing. So, Iron is very very precious on his map. They may just have to do this, in order to get enough to kit out the four warriors in the game playing right now. So I agree, this is a nice exploit, and it isn't like cheating at all. Because Vikings go raiding other countries, and clans all the time. So, I see it as fair game.

That would be like saying building a crater under bosses to exploit the fact that they cant attack vertically and hitting them without them hitting you back or loging out to prevent a death and heal up isn't a cheese lol. But there is nothing wrong with playing how you want to play, the game is also in early access and seeds are random(to an extent) and as time goes on the devs will fix these things if they dont like people abusing them(like preventing logout during combat and adding more vertical damage splash to bosses). So there very might well be an imbalance with the amount of iron you need to progress in your seed or even in general. To each their own, we all enjoy and support the game so no reason to bash anyone for playing how they like when it doesnt affect you.

Yeah there are a few exploits in Valheim. There is realm-hopping to avoid death or move resources, firing an arrow in sneak and then leaving troll caves and doing it repeatedly to make it impossible for him to hit you, building bases on small islands covered in work benches so raids can't spawn any mobs, and the various farming exploits that can give you endless meat or an army of two star wolves lol
That's what makes this game awesome. It has so much to offer for so many in my opinion. If you're a fanatic like me that has over a thousand game days in a smaller private realm with four people, you might not mind sailing around with a hold of ore, killing sea serpents and even messing around building a refining station closer to a large swamp. Or if you don't have time for that, you can use exploits to skip the bits you find boring, tedious or frustrating and go hell and leather for Yagluth.
In a nutshell, everyone plays it how they like and hopefully has fun along the way... I hope they add more content before I go insane hahaha.

This! I play valheim just to play. It is grindy and frustrating, but fun. My gameplay is 50% grind, 30% build, 15% quest, and 5% exploration, and I'm all in for it...Anyways, still sane bud?
On a side note. For those of you who want to mine the iron of your own world. You can put a portal. Mine the iron, log off and join another server with a chest. Dump your iron, logoff again and teleport back to your base. Log off, go into the world with the chest full of iron and bring it back to your world.

That looks more ethic and less time consumping. I think on this problem too much, and the most ethical and practical solution that I found is not making the main base until finding a land which is close to both mountain and swamp biomes. For this, you need to use valheim map generator tool to plan your travels. However I liked your idea more than mine so I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Side step in the rules.
It seems the seed has changed a bit since this video was posted but it still has a massive swamp with lots of crypts and the like within walking distance, the directions just changed. Go north from the sacrificing stones, then when you hit a small river, cross it. From there, start to go north west (follow the shore to the west if you need to and you) and you will find another river, cross that one as well. Follow the shoreline west through the black forest and you will hit the swamp area. Side note, the black forest area that you enter after crossing the second river, has a mountain with a massive silver vein. Figured I would mention that in case people were having a hard time finding silver like I am. I hope this helps.

@@ryanmccarthy7866 I can't log in right now from what I remember, from spawning at the stones in the meadows, you will stay in the meadows until you cross the second river, then you should enter the black forest if you start to follow the short line to the west and stay in black forest until you hit swamp. You will know you are in the right place as if you go slightly north west after you cross the second river, you will enter a mountain biome.

5:55 You don't have to open passage to a monster to kill it. Just start breaking the mud pile enough to aggro the mobs on the other side and to be relatively close to them, then use your Stagbreaker to kill the mobs with AoE damage. The stagbreaker won't damage mud piles.
You can honestly just kill them through the full pile, stagbreaker has a crazy radius.
@@nocantryI died 4 times by a 2 star drauger that was stuck in a corner of a crypt before I remembered the stagbreaker. I was then able to easily kill it without even entering the chamber. I was kicking myself for not remembering it earlier.

As a solo its good. I love the game but the hauling grind doesn't add anything. It's still half the grind finding and stacking everything but I love using this method. Might have lost interest otherwise.
I like having to find new mining locations and then making another base somewhere else for the immersion of it as well lol. Love the building in this game

A lot of people saying this is cheating, but this a simple and unique mechanic that already exists in the game, its not an exploit or something.
I never did that, but after you do 1 or 2 trips to a really far away place, and u only have like 1 hour to play the game per day, you start considering it, since some trips can take like 30 minutes or more, i mean, you already experienced the travel and all the smelting process, if you really enjoy it, nice, keep doing, i like the travel mechanic, but after you do the same process 2 times or more, it can get annoying.

I dont agree that it is a cheating process, the whole traveling with itens with your character from world to world is possible by the own game structure, its really different from inputing commands on console, because you didnt fight for the resources, and didnt even collect the resources, by using console.
I took 2 trips to the swamp for iron and was able to build most of the things I want. Doing this strategy now for upgrading. As long as you've done the hard way before I don't see this as a bad thing.

For those of you who are getting "the wrong seed", you need to explore farther north west. If you say you are getting a mountain biome, it is in fact the correct seed. You have only misjudged the pathing direction. the difference is, you are misinterpreting the distance of travel on the map. It looks a lot shorter than it really is. I tried this seed 3 times before i just said screw it and kept trecking on. I began to see more similarities and eventually did reach the swamp not too long after. Also his map is shown at night time which does make a difference in the way the terrain is shown on the map, so the river that you get to the north just after spawning does look deceiving on his map and is quite clear on the daytime map. By the time you reach the swamp in day 1 it should be getting close to nighttime.

Maybe I'm just the special person here, but I explored too far northwest based on his non existent rivers and explanation in his video. I had to explore more northeast (far side of the bay). Thing is exploring TOO FAR north west ran me into mountain biome. Not north east. Perhaps north east takes you to mountains as well? i definitely saw the biome in the distance.

Get pass that snow biome however you can, once you do pivot NW and you'll find the ocean. after passing through darkwoods you'll find the swamp. Trust me, I thought the seed was broken too but it's just different with that snow biome
I'd love to see different portal ranks, that allow upgraded transports. So your basic portal won't be able to transport ore, but then maybe a portal that can do copper and tin, then one that can do iron and silver, etc...
OR, just let people transport ore. I was doing this same thing to skirt the port restriction, and it's so much faster than using a cart, or setting up secondary bases.
See, I think you should be able to port metal. BUT, you cannot port over encumbered.

The reason you can’t port with metal, ask yourself why. The game is designed and balanced around this idea, you have carts and boats to haul metal, yes it’s difficult, yes it’s supposed to be. Not every game is supposed to be easy. Play how it’s fun for you but I don’t personally enjoy skipping a huge portion of a game just to save myself time, if I wanted to save myself time I wouldn’t be playing video games, I’m playing the game to play the game, not to skip through as much of the game as I can, where the fun in that

Lets be honest, we all thought of doing this at some point, i never did it cuz it would ruin the immersion and i wanted to play the game the way it was meant to be played, so i could give better feedback about the game, but now with over 100 hours into the game, i wouldn't mind doing this for sure.
Honestly if you read about the way Yggrasil works in Norse mythology you could see that the devs probably actually intended for us to do this. Don't think of it as "cheesing valheim", think of it as traveling to another branch of the tree in search of treasures.
I also play with a group of 8 people and we're finding it extremely hard to progress through the iron part of the game because you need an insane amount to cap out armor and weapons for 8 people, so I really have no issues with poaching it from other worlds. For each of us to have iron armor we need 150 for each person, meaning we need 1200 iron. That's not even factoring in tools or weapons.
I'm pretty sure all the iron in my world is gone now, and we haven't been able to even find another swamp to get it from, so this might literally be my only option anyway.

That was my approach too, I didn’t start doing this until sinking 150 hours in and beating the game. Even then we still enjoy a boat journey laden with black metal.

You don't actually need the Swamp key to get into crypts. You can either dig underneath them so you can get beneath and interact with the entrance, or place a chair in front of the closed off gate in a way that will make your character clip through it when you get out of the chair.
I mean if you're using off main servers for resources just spawn the items in... You're going to an easy place to get a hard resource and you're still being inefficient. If you're gonna be cheesy be cheesy.
they made the chair thing much harder to pull off you need to use the chair and portals now from what i understand... it is not hard to get the key, the elder is not that tough. who wants to dig in the swamp?! i don't get these exploits, but then again i enjoy sailing...

If you are going to do this, why not just spawn Iron with console commands.
Because you still need to go over there/explore , get in danger, mine/harvest. Only thing your skipping is the somewhat boring part (especially if you play solo). Spawning it in, is actually cheating. But if you just want to build something nice or whatever, it is a nice way to be able to spawn it in. So to each his own. But there is a difference between world hopping and spawning it in.
@@NotClosedMinded I mean... the game already tells you you can't use a portal to transfer metals so world hopping is clearly not intended game experience and you're using a VERY unintended (unintended as a way to experience the game) and efficient shortcut. That's the point of the comment above. It's basically saying If you're willing to use such shortcuts why not use the ultimate. Is it cause one shortcut is less cheating than the other? Why does that matter? You've already crossed that line when you decided to ignore the game mechanics that indicate that you are not meant to teleport metals from one point to another.
Btw i have no problem with people using that method. There's nothing more valuable than your time and you choose how to spend it and enjoy thingsand i could easily see myself doing that if it gets too tedious. Just don't pretend that somehow this is different than a mod that allows you to pass metals through portals. In principle you're still skipping an obstacle the game put there for you to experience with means that are not technically ingame.
@aggsar I think the devs should fix this. Just make it impossible by creating seeds with server-side characters. And make portals configurable at the start. Either no-portals, current portals, and ore capable portals. Making portals mistlands tier items could also be nice, as it is basically magic and makes it an option only available late game.
I look at it like NotCloseMinded. I get to play the crypt which I like, without the hassle of skulking in the swamps which I hate.
I played through the swamps the right way once and I got sick of it. The visibility, frequent abomination, always raining. For me it's that one biome I don't look forward to every playthrough.

Why if I hit the ingot with a hammer it's now (according to the game) not metal? I agree with all the other stuff you cant teleport, but metals makes absolutely zero sense.
Just finished up mining and lugging 1000+ iron across the map. Shit nearly brings you to tears how long it takes. This method is definitely streamlined but a little immersion breaking. What I wish I'd done is take lots of wood and stone, found and mapped all the crypts before hand, and make a central storage base with roads raised out of the swamp with the stone/hoe. Then carting it to the ocean for a trip home. Would have saved me so much time.

I say exploit anything you want since it's in beta, the devs can choose later if they want to patch these exploits. I'm sure they're thankful to have their player base make them aware of them.

This is what i did to transfer metals, mainly because the only difference it makes is saving a shit ton of time, i didnt feel like i was cheating more so just saving my time. Sometimes it takes a good 15minutes to take your boat back, and all that is just time wasted because nothing eventful happens. So i still played the game the way i was supposed to i just didnt wanna spend hours and hours doing nothing but going back and forth transfering everything by boat.
I just started playing with mods so I dont have to do this method anymore lol

@@holydarkness6007 I'll admit, I used cheats "just once" because I died in a dungeon and couldn't remember where I went, and had no gear to help me get there. Used god mode to get my stuff back and now I'm spawning in bits and pieces all the time. Trying to limit it as much as possible and justify it as "just saving time in places", but beating the game with no cheats does seem more satisfying.
It feels satisfying returning with a boat full of ore. Logging out and logging back in removes a core aspect of the game. I get why it works, but I wonder if they’ll keep this in game.

searching for a new swamp is what sucks, but the adventure is some fun, and once you get to silver iron isn't as important, I just wish there was a better way to get iron, because sure sometimes it can spawn underground in swamps, but you can't exactly dig into water.....
I recommend just having a world to store unteleportable items.
and whenever you become encumbered you log out and log in to the chest world, and store your stuff.
After that you can just return to what you were doing, also you can just do it again if need be.
once your done looting you return to you homebase and do some item transferring in-between worlds

quick tip for you around this technique, logging out instantly refills stamina so you can use it to cross oceans without a boat if you get stuck

You can buy an item from the trader that gives you more strength, which equals an extra 150 carrying weight. Forget the name of the item, but it’s description states it gives you added strength. Plus it doesn’t replace armour like the headlight does.

Yes! Grinding trolls and crypts hard to buy the belt was rough. It feels SO good to have that weight limit up to something reasonable. Can carry all normal gear plus 3 stacks of wood or stone and pick up random hunting loot too? AAahhhhh yes.

Valheim is such a great game because you can find enjoyment in the little things.
I have nothing against people using your little server-hop trick. But honestly, by abusing this trick, all you do is getting iron faster while making the process lackluster, boring and more of a chore than it has to be.
Its more boring to go back and forth multiple time, especially when my fucking swamps have no crypts. Wasting 2h to 3h for nothing. I am a solo and I've done it your way, a couple of time. Its time consuming and exhausting. I rather just pop in and out, and get my shit done. The game is tedious, they should just simply allow us to teleport ore and skip the time consuming sailing.

@21PreEnd you don't go back and forth multiple times. You go to an island next to your base, look for crypts, and maybe load up your boat. Then you go to the next island, load your boat, then the next, etc, etc. Making a round trip visiting many islands and swamps, and depending on progression, perhaps mountains/plains too. Adding stuff to your boat each time, then you come back with such an insane stack you don't need to go out for quite some time.
Instead of travelling back and forth each time, you actually just make 1 trip where you visit multiple islands. You would have thought of this if you didn't cheat because it would occur to you naturally.
The alternative to cheats isn't necessarily tedium. It's thinking outside the box and doing some logistics. which is actually intellectually engaging.

The beauty of UA-cam is if you don't like a video don't watch it. This video is super helpful to me who is currently carrying a server of 10 on their back and I am full time in University. The problem that the game creates is there is priority placed onto the first person to gather resources. I was the first person on the server to get iron and other basic resources so as I grabbed up all the close iron copper and tin. It becomes increasingly difficult for other people on the server to find these resources now, to the point of it being virtually unplayable. The time sink is immense and for people who have work, school, and actual commitments it in untenable. Now for me it is alright cause I have what I need and I am pushing into later game materials. But for my friends who are still working on the bronze and iron ages finding resources becomes a huge feat. Like I get it if boat travel was easy, but it is time consuming and boring. Do I enjoy it? Yes! I don't mind the gameplay loop. But for people who are starting out in my server it becomes harder and harder for them to find the resources they need in order to progress. So I think this video is incredibly helpful. The argument of cheating or not seems stupid to me. If you are on a PVP server make your own rules. But there is no reason for you to go around tryina shame people for just trying to improve the gameplay of the game for themselves and their friends. No one is hurt by their actions so what is the point in making the argument? Is it an exploit? Sure. Are exploits cheating? I don't think so. If the devs don't like it the devs can fix it. Problem solved. Until then if my friends need help ima recommend them this video.

But if you do this on a server where cheating / exploit abuse is specifically not allowed, you're just an ass. "I'm allowed to cheat because I don't have the time to do it legit" is a very weak excuse and certainly not fair to other players. Fair players try to sell iron for say 5 coins per piece since it's hard to get. In comes the cheater that sells tons more for next to nothing since they have an unlimited supply that holds no value at all to them because of that. Fair players try to farm for hours to meet market demands and in come the cheaters to just instantly saturate the market. But it's fine because they just don't have time, right?

This method could have been explained in half a minute tops, the bloat is insane.
1. Find a seed online with a swamp close to spawn (this vid's description) and create a new world using this seed
2. Load your character with the necessary items; pickaxe, food+mead, swampkey, and weapon of choice
3. Enter the new world you created and go to the swamp, mine some iron scrap in a crypt
4. Logout, enter your "main" world
5. Dump the scraps in a chest
6. Rinse and repeat
Equip Megingjord as well if you have access to it. If you haven't found the merchant yet, go explore (or find a seed with the trader close to spawn i guess).

I thought this was going to be clickbait, but this turned out to be a GREAT tip. I remember hating getting iron when I was playing solo. The swamp kicked my but, and its dark and damp and I generally hate it there (but playing with friends makes it a lot more fun). I actually stopped playing my solo run before getting enough iron to kill bonemass because it was such an impossible chore. This is a GREAT tip and wish it was more well know for new players.
Getting iron while solo is extremely tedious (especially if, like for myself, the nearest swamp is an ocean away from the OPPOSITE side of your home island), doesn't help that so far I've only found a single crypt in my nearest swamp
This is useful for some, good solution too. What I do is I sail along the coast to the swamp area, I get my ship as close to the Swamp Dungeon as I can. In my boat I bring ressources to make a portal and 3 stacks of wood. I make a little 3x3 on the staircase of the entrance to the dungeon and set the portal up in there. I then go mine and loot and store the iron in the hut outside, bring all other loot home through the portal and repair my pickaxe while i'm there. I go back and forth until the dungeon is empty, then load up the ship with the iron, tear down the house and head home. I have one portal at my home just named "Temp" and I use that to have an easy way home whenever, and I store the items to make the portal at all times in the boat. 4 - 6 hours of grinding and I had all my armor iron and maxed out and other bits and bops. But that's just how I like to play. Each to their own, no hate.
Smart, I do kinda the same thing but once you get the meging belt, makes the haul a lot heavier. Highly recommend

Oh I even have my wold work in such a way that I have to travel quite far to both the bosses and the biomes to reach the next levels. And then I spent several hours almost crushing my longship by serpents, trolls and deathsquitos until I found Haldor, found an epic river that connected two seas, found a swamp in the middle of a sea while travelling home (low water level, ground has a layer of water above and draugr walking over it), thats where I actually rammed a bunch of draugr with my ship, that felt very satisfying, and came back with like 3% health for my ship, no arrows and my ship full of loot. That was an amazing adventure.
Spawning almost tight next to a swamp and a boss altar for both The Elder and Bonemass can be extremely boring. I had to spend like 35 game hours before I could reach The Elder, it was like in the area between the center and the edge of the map. And Bonemass almost at the edge of the map. Getting to bonemass was the longest journey, and the most risky one. A bunch of brute fellings almost obliterated my ship.

@@dooorwedge You are confusing possibility and intent. It's intentional to transfer your character through world with his gear so you don't have to start from scratch each time. It's not intentional to break the weight control / stamina penalty using it. And the ores are not fast travel item. going out of your way to fast travel them anyway is game mechanics breaking. It's not because it's technically possible that you are not cheating.
It's technically possible for a human to take drugs that up his strength and stamina, it's still cheating to do it in sports.
The devs are actually very strong about not letting players teleport ores. They really want to put more emphasis on exploration within the next updates. This exploits will definitely get patched for sure. Maybe they won't allow your character to world swap unless you logged off at the start. I'm down with the no teleport concept but at least make traveling faster. Bosses should be passive buffs and not active.
Well, its been a year and like 8 patches so... they haven't patched it out. Also, I saw on some interview that the devs have gone back and fourth about teleporting ore and have always been on the fence about it. I dunno what you mean by them being very against it. Plus, how would you actually police against it?
@@nuahavizu I was basing my comment around the big Q&A they did on reddit. They do it every once in a while. They were very much against it at first. I haven't followed their thoughts ever since. Good thing it was not patched, regarding the exploits. I am 400 hours into this game and the grind is really making this game less fun. Has huge potential, hope they find a way to balance things out until the full release.
As per the developers...seed generation is random and varied. Some seeds will have large amounts of specific resources and others will not(standard algorithm 0-100% distribution per resource spawn, possibility exists to have very minimal resource spawn.)hence why you are given the ability to travel between multiple seed worlds.
i agree, i dont personally play with others - i just want a relaxing time when i get home from a 10 hr day and spent like 3 weeks building my first castle/keep which is 4 stories high and i used at least 10+ carts full of stone to make it which i gathered all myself. once the castle got to the 4th story i could not finish the very top since i needed iron to make beams, a lot of beams!! that and upgrading items had me like only getting 10 or 20 iron at a time one a boat and i was like wtf this is forever and a day and i only get like 4 hours a day of play time.... so using other seeds to gather resources is i think fine - there is still a lot of added danger in this since the new world has no bases, you have never explored it so other dangers exist.... if you die here it can be VERY bad!!!

It doesn't encourage exploration, since almost all players will haul their materials back the way they came.
It's not a challenge for most players, either, since most will set up shacks along the way for shelter and will not transport stuff at night
It's a waste of time. However, to not mess with the "game balance" too much, I just installed the Advanced Portals instead of a "teleport everything" mod. It allows me to progress through different stages of portal capability so there's still *some* grind.

I discovered this technique as well. After spending a ridiculous amount of time on my seed just looking for an adequate swamp biome and failing (and dying a lot) I ended up just relocating to a new seed and starting over. I used this technique to sort of get me caught back up to where I was but it felt cheap so after I felt like I caught myself up to where I should have been I continued with the normal method of using my longboi.
So IMO it's a useful technique for specific situations if the hunt for something is becoming too tedious or if like me you feel the need to start over with a new seed but I would use it very sparingly or it sort of makes the game pointless.
Another good trick for lots of iron without doing any fuck thing is joining other servers and looking for scrap. Instant black metal and some crystal here and there. The power of communism.
I've been doing this for a bit now hahaha! I have my main world I build on and a bunch of other worlds for various things. One world is dedicated to a merchant so I can login right next to him, buy/sell what I need, and disappear back into the multiverse.
Why don't you just place a teleporter? Or are you struggling to find your trader in your main world?
Just use cheat spawn commands and make it even easier. I mean if you're going to cheat, might as well make it simple.
This mechanic of a persistent character and gear that can travel between world's is intentional. It may require tweaking to keep it from being OP but this is what it is now.

I think with carts and boats this is not needed, but indeed a cool trick. We play on a server with5-8 people and we all have upgraded iron and the journeys we go on to get the iron are what makes the game amazing :)

Crypts are so boring. You have to click on mud piles in the dark forever and ever. It's not even dangerous, just tedious. I just want to pull my eyes out.

wanna do this even faster? if you have ore on your person. bring a cart to a portal. obviously, you can't use the portal with ore in YOUR inventory, but... if you place the ore inside the cart, open the CART's inventory, and keep it open as you enter the portal, you can quickly transfer the ore into YOUR inventory while you are actively being transported.
This has been fixed.

So, I've explored about 10 swamps on my server and found exactly one crypt. So until this is patched to find crips in every swamp I do not mind cheating. I do not want to play a game for two or three real days and still not have any of the next material that I need to upgrade

Dude, I spent 2 hours hauling 154 iron ingots back home. I considered just crafting the forge and a base near swamps after that, but now I know about this . It's going to save me a lot of time for doing the fun things in the game . Especially because I don't get much game time in the week.

I also want to add that all the crypts on our server have been depleted. We ended up going to different seeds to bring back iron anyway.
@@yamchayaku personally, sailing home on a boat full to the rim with ore I just gathered, seeing the nice dock and base I built from the distance already, are the moments I play the game for. I would probably consider using this exploit too if I didn't have any crypts left on my map but wtf how much have you guys been farming on your server, I play with 2 friends and we didn't even finish one swamp yet and we're all geared up on armour/stations etc.

This 100% works like a charm, you just have to keep in mind that your map won't look EXACTLY the same. Get to the same general area that he is following his path as best you can, and, if you typed it in correctly (both the seed and Swamp2 in my case) there WILL be a nearby swamp to the northwest and there are TONS of crypts. already cleared 3 myself. Not sure if this counts as cheating but
1: load up a new world
2: build a chest and put your ores in them
3: log back into your main world and go through portal
4: go into other world and collect ores
Or you could just start your game on a seed that is guaranteed to have an abundance of important metals not too far from your spawn point. HHcLC5acQt has four of the five bosses on your starting continent, which also has three large swamps with several crypts in them, and large mountain biomes featuring several silver veins that you are able to spot without a wishbone, because they stick out of the mountain sides and peaks. It also has the trader to the southwest of the starting spawn in a darkforest between two mountain ranges, and an abandoned village with a maypole can be found if you follow the coast near the spawn point to the east. All biomes are on the starting continent, with plains to the far south, and Yagluth is on the western neighboring island. You‘ll also discover fire geysirs in the larger swamps that you can use to farm surtling cores. You‘ll not need to use an exploit if you choose your seed wisely at the start of your playthrough.
My friends and I were having the worst time gathering enough iron for everyone so I suggested this and they were cool with it.
I stopped playing about two weeks after launch though because I have a physical disability that makes me need a lot of sleep and down time [aka not doing anything like gaming] so I kept getting further and further behind, feeling like a mule for ore since no one else wanted to take the couple minutes to log out, drop the ore in their solo base, log back in, tele to multi-player base, log out, log in solo, grab ore, log out back in multi, and ore is at base.
So I really... haven't touched the game... not even solo.
I really just prefer building anyway and while this game has amazing building mechanics, the progression to get better and better stuff is annoying to me. That's how I am in most games.
In WoW I really prefer gathering and crafting, collecting rare pets and mounts, stuff like that.
Honestly... I started playing Classic and the idea of BC raiding intimidates me because of how much sleep and rest I need...

the easiest not cheese way to get a lot of iron fast is to get portals and boat, go to a swamp and find all the crypts, farm all the crypts while going to your base to drop some items and then getting all the iron to the boat (you can leave chests in the crypts and mark them in the map to get later), it is kinda time consuming but it is faster than your example, also you dont lose the best part of valheim, the adventure
The people saying that "True Vikings sail and loot! This is for cheaters!" know jack shit about actual Vikings. Not even 5% of Scandinavians had set a foot on another land in the 900s - 1100s, they hadn't even sailed a boat either.
90% of their lives revolved around farming and upkeep of their homes. This is like saying everyone in the Caribbeans were pirates, no they weren't, idiots.
The Developers of this game made it a GRIND to bring back Ores, for no reason. You had to already travel to a swamp, by boat, place portals, and mine the ore. Why the hell would they then add an element of GRIND to bring back that Ore? It's like an Anti-Quality of Life feature that they implemented.
Makes me fucking angry when people play 3 Viking Themed games and watch 1 episode of "Vikings" and believe they know shit about actual Viking History.
In the mistlands you can destroy brige structures by placing a stonecutter, removing the marble and destroying the iron Walls by hand (takes about 7 hits). Do this at the bottom to let everything collaps and you get about 100 Black marble sind 40 SMELTED IRON.😮

People enjoy playing different aspects of the games all the comments hating on this are really dumb. It’s like when I played Skyrim I’ve played it so much and I got bored playing it normally. So I added mods then I got bored of the mods so I started just using silly exploits to get as overpowered as possible and I love that more than both the others. The ability play a game the way you like it is what makes this home so beautiful don’t be hateful about this persons methods just play it your way and move on. Great video btw

Play how you want to play. I personally don't do this type of "Shortcuts" anymore because I progress too fast and get tired of the game once I have everything. I learned my lesson from doing similar exploits in Terraria and Minecraft.
If you think harvesting iron is annoying wait till you need to get silver, and have drakes, wolfs and stone golems spawning every time you hit the pickaxe, and then you have to travel to sea so you can bring the stuff with you cause there's no way you will be doing a base near stone golems, and if you'r lucky you will have a black forest between the mountain and the sea, in my case is almost only the plains, and good luck if you find the freaking fulings
build earthen walls for your base and the mobs will not attack it. they will attack anything you make but raising earthen walls counts as land. You can stand at the top and shoot them in the head.

I happened to find a swamp with enough crypts to supply my iron needs forever, maybe 20 mins away from main base, not too bad to spend a day mining and filling the longship with iron and sailing back instead of seed hopping. But nice trick I guess, would probably ruin the game for me tho. No need for ppl to be butthurt tho since theres always debugmode aswell..

I know. But as I said the swamp has lifetime supply of iron. Many boatloads of crypts there still. Unless I go insane with iron poles but I doubt. Currently working on second load for just building/decoration as the first load lasted me long enough to fully upgrade padded armor.

update I think changed seeds, just tried this and I cant find a Swamp Biome in that location just a black Forest
no seed works, just used it now. just go up to the sea and follow it to the right and you will get there ( if that makes sense)

If you are doing this, you might as well spawn the items with console commands, the whole point of going thru a dungeon is to safely make it back with all your battle earnings, and you will have way more fun that way.
hopefully someday the amount of ore that can be hauled on a boat will increase...I dislike logging out on one server and in on the main one..but I do it, but it also breaks the immersion of the game for me.
You can haul more ore on boats by putting a cart on the boat.
Then don’t do it. You can keep that ore away and go get it next time u want serpent.

Solo I just longboat it back to base. Usually 1 boat full takes care of my iron needs. With friends I do the logout trick because it calls for a godly amount of iron. Unless we go full role play. Just play how y’all want. Have fun.
If you play with friends take more boats. If you don’t wanna cheese. Did this also. 2 long boats complete full was more iron then we ever needed.
Literally just make a long boat. It can carry a lot of stuff on it and is much faster than the karve. Karves should be able to carry enough iron for you to make the nails needed for a long boat.
Even easier way to get UNLIMITED Iron: Press F5, type: imacheater
This will turn on cheat mode, then you type: spawn Iron 50
Yep. If you're going to seed hop, you might as well do this. Even better, use debugmode and just craft anything without working for it.

like we don't put the work in too. I've explored at least 20+ crypts and gotten full iron gear the same way you did. I'm just fed up with an hour long trip for each iron run. What was the point of them making portals and then literally making the heaviest items non teleportable?

I don’t think you can use debug mode if you don’t own the server, this doesn’t matter if you’re solo but if you are with a group unless you just want one person to fly back in forth with everything while everyone else is just kind of there then idk be my guest

this is NOT the viking way
the Viking way:
1. sail the vast seas in search of new lands
2. find swamp and make a camp with a portal and spiked walls.
3. explore swamp and mark all the crypts on the map
4. get your hoe out and lay the most efficient path connecting each crypt.
5. build a cart and fill it with ore as you mine each crypt.
6. cart all your ore back to your camp and load the ship.
7. return home like a true viking.
8. BONUS TIP. take your portal with you to each crypt and place it on top of the crypt so you can easily repair and rest at home in between each crypt.

You could use the antler pickaxe for the mining and simply make a workbench attached to the crypt. Easy to run back up and repair no sweat
if you use this videos trick, you can just repair your pickaxe at your house then log back into the swamp world with full durability

@@newman6434 Thank you. I plan all my expeditions like military campaigns. It's more than half the fun. I literally build a workbench and forge at these satellite bases- all you need to do is bring a bit of copper and coal. The rest of the stuff is incredibly easy to find. Build a wee little base of operations and go to town mining.

@@Fleonwyn that too is just extra steps. If youre gonna cheat, just cheat. Though i agree that Portals should be able to tp ores, just balance it abit, like make Portals more expensive. I hate how the devs intentionally make the game such a huge time sink, i love the game, but it is just rediculous at times, and it gets repetitiv fast, especially if you got bad rng.
That mod is great for servers with friends, cus when you implement more people it gets more tedious to get every player what they need in terms of gear, and sometimes it gets hard to match up with your friends to play at the same time, especially for adults who have responsibilities every day.
Tl dr: devs want the game to waste as much of your time it can
on our server we have wiped out like seven swamps most of our iron comes from the mist lands now i feel like the iron requirements vs drop rate is way out of wack

My iron is about 40 minutes swimming on Karve from my first spawn location, almost at the other end of the world, lol.

I agree that this subtracts from the gameplay slightly. I've been hauling iron for 6-7 hoursas a solo, but I can guarantee now I'm going to use this method.
Mainly playing solo as well and closest swamp is two boat rides away, gonna use this method when I'm playing with myself.
I agree iron needs to be tweaked in some way. Here are some options:
1. make iron scrap lighter so i can complete a crypt in one run and move on. Running back to a crypt 3 times is not exploring, its busy work. (this could also be accomplished by making iron scrap produce 3 ingots, and just putting (1/3) as much iron scrap in the crypts.)
2. add an upgraded portal that can portal copper tin and iron. This is a cool idea, but more impactful and the devs likely dont want this.
3. make iron ingots lighter, which would more incentivize smelting in the swamp. It would also mean you dont have to be encumbered just build a sword, which feels silly.

Just started playing again after a long absence from the game, not sure I ever played any of the named updates. I forgot that this was even a thing, even having a world still labeled resources pre-mistlands. Thanks for the reminder.
I was reading comments and people seem NOT to know that you actually DO NOT need to go into the crypts to farm iron... I found this by pure accident, those piles of iron that you find inside the crypts are also scattered throughout the swamp ground, so you can farm iron just like silver!!! Its even easier to find the iron mines by just running along a hill or mountain that borders the swamp or is part of the swamp.
I have this seed as a single play through and yes it is typed out exactly the same but my map is completely different than this one.

I just find one of the abandoned circular stone bases in the swamp and setup a smelting base there. If you’re switching between seeds you might as well use dev command and give yourself iron ingots.

Because it's not the same. You still have to fight monsters and try to stay alive, and dying on another map really, really sucks if you don't have a base built there. I have made more than a few corpse runs doing this. The main reason I did this is because I couldn't find any crypts to mine iron from on my map. The swamps were all empty. @@edwardrichard8093 I don't think he's doing anything wrong...it just seems like a lot of extra effort when he could just spawn some iron. I get tired of chopping trees and stone to build so I'll spawn materials.

Alright some I’m 430 days into the game and didn’t start watching videos till recently. This video is SO legit. I’ve got massive bases all over my original map because I had the Worst seed for swamps had to travel to 5 large islands across oceans all over to find a swamp big enough to have just one crypt. No joke traveled through 6 different swamps to find one crypt. This was extremely helpful for my case scenario. Thank you for finding this for us
I did something similar to this. I made a 2nd world, complete with a building filled with chests and max-level work stations. I raid a crypt, log out, stash my loot and repair. Then log back in with a empty inventory, max health and repaired gear.
Thanks for this tip. Im a fulltime student and have a part time job, so I only have a few hours a week when I can play this and grinding for iron had made this game turn dull for me. I also recently got killed at the swamp and essentially lost all my progress as I was wearing all the iron I had mined so far. So using this trick it wont be so hard to get back to where I left off.
I should share my seed - I have a swamp with 10 crypts close to each other and another swamp with another 7 crypts. (And on the starting island, I have loads of copper deposits close by each other.) Bosses (except first one) are far away from spawn, but when farming is made easy, it's still worth it. ^^

I found that since inventory of the character can be transfered to the other maps, choosing map with the seed close to the swamp can in practice be easier than sailing with ship - you always can logout and enter a map with your homebase - transfer ores/scraps and relog to continue with farming

im on a isolated meadow island and have one small black forest and couldn't get the rest of the surtling cores to make a smelter or kiln because the raft simply wont take me to another one and there isn't any other islands as far as the eye can see, this helped so much.
As much as I don't like the idea of doing this and I won't be doing it, the game is a singleplayer/coop experience, there is no "competitive" edge. This is not a bug/glitch (like duplicating etc), the developers made the game this way and I think everyone has to play it how they want. The only thing I wish the devs would do, is add server options so server admins can have control over this. Allow/disallow the ability to make portals/wards, whitelist/blacklist items from being able to be transferred in etc. This would allow communities to decide how they want to play and keep it fair.
Ye but what if I log off with 30 iron and never be able to come back with it again. And disabling wards might seem as a heavy red flag for players who just wanna play in peace. I think the game is heavily designed for server play with random folks and nothing should be changed, if you're playing with friends just agree on communism like I do with mine.

Some have fun by griefing others and destroying their structures. Optimization helps them get there faster, lol

Different people have fun in different ways. While some might enjoy having to travel for hours to get materials back, others just want to get the grind over as quick as possible to enjoy other parts like the next boss or base building. I don't mind the travel, but this game is VERY grindy to the point that it becomes unenjoyable for many. I have a friend that quit the game at the bronze grind, and that was near base, so you can imagine how many people will be turned of by having to travel longs distances just to get their materials back to the base.
I believe making more parts of the game customizeable could make the game enjoable for more people, having options for smaller worlds is the best example I can think of, Terraria does that and it works really well for that game.
@@NamelessOne91 Why even play this game if you don't like gathering resources? I mean, by all means go on, but this isn't a content driven game. If you wanna do base building, go creative mode! No need to do tedious exploits when the devs literally gives us a way to do this (because the building system in this game is great imo!). If you want to just do bosses though: why even buy this game? There are currently only 5 bosses out there, and you can easily blast through the content in 4-5 hours if you push for it.
This game is all about exploration, immersive grinding and releasing your creativity with what you gather. If that's not your style, there are plenty of other, far better games for you.

Video could be 2 mins long. So get iron. Log out. Log into a second server. Store ores. Log out. Log into main server. Go back through portal. Log out and grab or from other server. Go home. Smelt ores. Easy no bullshit from video.
Awesome, Thanks for this. I play solo and was about ready to give up on the game because I don't have the time to haul copper back to my base let alone iron!! It it absolutely ******** that you can't carry ore through the portal! (for me it is a minimum 20 minute walk back to base with my copper!)
This is one of the things I don’t like about valhiem, the fact you can come into a server and basically push the entire server to the max gear and ores. This method for farming def makes it easier but the whole grind is one of the things I enjoy about the game. Having to work logistics, deal with enemies, having to haul is part of the intended game. This whole process while intended and permitted, is so cheap and the whole combat logging just shows you really don’t know how to play the game. You can put a bed outside the crypt before you go in… and just go run to get your stuff. It’s not that hard really.
