Being a farrier is a very noble profession, it's hard work and I'm sure it's satisfying caring for these animals . I have a lot of respect for these farriers.
This is my first time watching a professional farrier do his job. I’m absolutely blown away by how you’re able to remove an old horseshoe, clean and trim the bottoms of their hoof, all the while you’re blacksmithing a new shoe. To me that’s extremely impressive but the final fitting and additional detail work like clipping the tips of the hammered horseshoe nails and the final sanding and lacquered finish over the outside of the hoof is amazing to watch. The level of skill and patience needed to work on horse feet is truly remarkable. In the old days, blacksmiths were one of the most important people in any village or town and it’s just so awesome that this incredible art form and skill is still needed today. My dad was a farrier and blacksmith, my grandad too. My dad used to shoe racehorses and he'd take us along with him, I wish I'd payed more attention to what he was doing, what a skill.

Can you imagine in the olden days in huge rolling estates, farriers would be prepare the carriage horses by the glow of gaslight well into the night, to the sound of their tools and the gentle sounds of the horses....

Wäre interessant zu sehen, ob das Pferd ohne Eisen fühlig läuft, was mich nicht wundern würde, bei dem was alles raus geschnitten wurde. Die weiße Linie sollte auch nicht so auseinander sein.
I owned quarter horses for over 30 years and I was always fascinated when I had them shod. Truly good farriers are hard to come by. I’m very impressed with the work this farrier performed.
@@Paige-Turnner I have definitely seen a lot worse! Before being shod, I would say the hoof was in fairly good condition. But as you saw, it sure looked better when the farrier completed the job.

@@cm3609 it doesn’t at all. If trimmed too short though, it can make them a bit sore till the hoof grows out a bit. Only an unskilled farrier does that.

I remember watching this up close as a kid. Growing up in South Louisiana my family would do the horse show circuit. This old guy was always there shoeing all the horses. I'm sure he did a pretty good business in 1 or 2 nights work. He would let us kids sit and watch him as long as we were still and quiet to not disturb the horse. We were always mesmerized watching this up close.

It's not dying really. No machine can replace a person in this line of work, the technic hasn't changed for over a 1000 year's and more. There is big demand but nobody could be bothered. And I live in Ireland
probably when it gets next to the blood flow and such, (the nail bed for us) however they don't go that deep as it'll interfere with the horse's ability to walk
It’s not really the outer hoof that is sensitive, it’s the frog, that arrow-looking thing in the middle, blood and nerves are closer to the surface there, it would be like cutting your finger nail too short.. and that horse would definitely let him know.
What will they do with out skilled labour's... this was an awesome thing to behold. I never knew that a horse huff could take all of that and how they put the horse shoe on.. Man you are skilled at what you do.
And to help ease you mind even more: for the horses, cows, mules, etc that get the whole treatment done by a seasoned professional like this man, it feels SO GOOD for them. It's like, imagine having a rock stuck in your shoe that has been there for months and you can never get it out. All of that discomfort goes away when farriers clean out all of the gunk stuck in the crevasse of the hooves and trim down all the excess growth. They can walk around in comfort once again 😊
When that inventor noticed that the horse's hooves weren't able to sustain the hard work the horse was asked to perform so its hooves needed protection.
Oh man..this guy is a true meticulous craftsman..makes a plastic surgeon's lyposuction work as walk in the park..someone throw that guy a big bonus and give him a nice raise.
I truly appreciate a video of a horse in good shape getting new shoes. There are so many videos of horses whose hooves are in terrible shape finally being groomed. It's so nice to see a video of someone doing their job well for a horse who is properly cared for 🐴❤️

Hey I really enjoyed you video. My dad was a farrier also. He learned the trade in the Calvary during WW2 and never left the field. Dad passed at the age of 80 and shod until he was 78 . On occasion he'd get a call fromMichigan State Veterinarian college for some thoughts and information. Not bad for a man with an 8th grade education. He another farrier and the professor designed and made one of the first navicular shoes. He used to say, those guys aren't farriers, they only cold shoe, no forage, no clips and a wimpy anvil, which I still own today. He also used to" hot check" the fit I never seen the knife you used to clean around the frog, that looked interesting. Sir, not that it matters but my father would have had the upmost respect for you! THAT'S ONE TOUGH JOB!!! Thanks for the memories . Ps where were the dogs to haul off the scrap hoofs?

Search horse hoof dissections and you can sort of work it out. Im not an expert but horse feet keep showing up in my recommended.

It’s the same as us getting out manicures! No pain at all (maybe except for the occasional nick)
And to help ease you mind even more: for the horses, cows, mules, etc that get the whole treatment done by a seasoned professional like this man, it feels SO GOOD for them. It's like, imagine having a rock stuck in your shoe that has been there for months and you can never get it out. All of that discomfort goes away when farriers clean out all of the gunk stuck in the crevasse of the hooves and trim down all the excess growth. They can walk around in comfort once again 😊

Hooves slip depending on the type of floor. It's a way to prevent horses and people from getting hurt too

I truly appreciate a video of a horse in good shape getting new shoes. There are so many videos of horses whose hooves are in terrible shape finally being groomed. It's so nice to see a video of someone doing their job well for a horse who is properly cared for 🐴❤️

The patience of the horse amazes me keeping your foot up for that length of time, it must start acheing.
Good farriers stretch the leg and rest the horse as they work. The device the hoof sits in is cushioned and takes the leg weight too.

Hey I really enjoyed you video.
My dad was a farrier also.
He learned the trade in the Calvary during WW2 and never left the field.
Dad passed at the age of 80 and shod until he was 78 .
On occasion he'd get a call fromMichigan State Veterinarian college for some thoughts and information.
Not bad for a man with an 8th grade education.
He another farrier and the professor designed and made one of the first navicular shoes.
He used to say, those guys aren't farriers, they only cold shoe, no forage, no clips and a wimpy anvil,
which I still own today.
He also used to" hot check" the fit
I never seen the knife you used to clean around the frog, that looked interesting.
