A guide explaining how to speed run The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past for Super Nintendo. (SNES)
And then what it's like to explore the eerie and creepy world of that game after you beat it by skipping to the end.
A lot of comments asked me to get more items so that we could explore the rest of this cursed world and I've done that for us to see in this part 2 video

"With this character's glitching, the thread of prophecy is severed. Restore a saved game to restore the weave of fate, or persist in the doomed, weird assed, world you have created."
Getting killed as the bunny then going back to before the glitch....
It's almost like a.....
link to the past😂
or link's awakening
Mate, seen your vid by "accident", just dropped by to say you speak so softly and clear that I really got into it. Also, I love Zelda and I'm going through a whole gameplay around the editions.
So, thanks for sharing.
The game is portraying the light world and dark world at the same time.
Responding at the top of death mountain is about the same location as the barrier at hyrule castle. The one you need the master sword to break.
The other enemies are spawned on the light world grid, but you see a dark world map.
Fun stuff!
I think it's awesome that everyone is dropping comments.
I really appreciate all your support.
I feel that *BIG TIME*. I haven't had any (and I mean ANY) engagement on any of my channels in YEARS. And I mean like since 2018, LOL. I'm pretty certain it's shadow-banning slash "ghosted" status, and I'm OK with that. I'm just like Link after he performs the save-state, "damage boost into the 4th dimension" glitch. So, like I said, I'm fine with it.
🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
Yeah bro keep up the good work honestly I dropped a comment as well. Great narration and great video to accompany it.
This is incredible! I wish they would remake LTTP like they did links awakening :/
THIS IS AMAZING! THIRTY TWO YEARS LATER YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING NEW! LOVE THIS!
It was just a dream...I wonder if Link also used to read 'Word Up!' magazine...?
Man there was a second that I thought "how much more broken can the game get if you completed the cursed world"
Ganon didn't expect ninja link to come creeping by lol
Holy Crap! Finally a soeedrun I can actually do!!! This is my favorite zelda game of all time, managed ti beat it to where i got a 0 for completion on my save, which to do legit is a grind... But this is absolutely amazing! Bravo my dude!
This game in my opinion is in the running of the best game of all time category!
That reminds me. When I was a kid I was playing this game, Link's Awakening. But even though I was just a kid, i managed to finish this game all by myself.
Anyway in one of my play throughs, one day I was just wandering in the graveyard in the middle of the game. Then one enemy attacked me and I fell in one of those pits. Then I don't know what happened but I got moved to a weird glitchy area, where I was stuck in the walls. I could not get outside the walls so I continued left right and up until I could find a path. The music was eerie, and after wandering endlessly between rooms with enemies not even noticing me, i finally appeared in front of the stairway to the wind fish.
Never understood what happened. Of course I tried to reproduce many times after that, i even bumped the console plenty of times to "trigger it", but alas it never reproduced. And to this day I'm still wondering if I wasn't hallucinating.
I think I know what you're talking about, it's a very weird state the game is in, but ScottFalco made something about it iirc. You just happened to trigger it in the graveyard instead of where it's usually performed.
oh interesting.
watching this video, i was reminded of glitching out of bounds in Link's Awakening by interrupting screen changes with select, but your experience sounds way more interesting and mysterious.
You broke Hyrule beyond all repair. Everyone is begging for merciful deaths. Good work!
I’ve done this and it was pretty cool. If I figured this out 30yrs ago, I could’ve blown my friends minds!
This is the craziest Zelda trick ive seen since the Links Awakening original GB version bug world....the way this glitch is performed is similar to that one too....😂
"Now this is where it gets goofy..." 🥰 Subscribed! Thank you.
This is great, found you in youtube recommended! Looking forward to more content from you! Liked and subscribed!
you can use the same glitch to get the moon pearl and hammer before you beat the game so you can get the shovel, and then the flute.
I'm surprised it glitches so coherently and playably.
It’s as if that was the plan; you become a bunny and die for cheating.
That's actually quite interesting! Didn't know this.
At least you still got one friend in the dark world
Who? Ralsei?
Jesus
Dude, awesome. I remember being 12 and accidentally discovering Chris Houlihan's Room by accident and having to tell my friends on the playground in the days before the internet.
Haha! I remember I beat this on March 31st, 1993, and the next day in school (5th grade) I told my friend that I beat it, and they were like "yea right, Steve, April fools". I still remember it like it was yesterday
It's not super complex or anything, but considering the 'timer' and specific location, I can't believe people found it by accident.
@@gentrydean3789it was an urban legend when I was a kid. Told only by people like the OP who found it by chance.
Lol this was awesome....the commentary made it even better😂
Wow, this was a really cool run and video!
And theres Ganon waiting for link to come but then he just gets demolished from the triforce
Hahaha wait was Ganon able to get at the Triforce or was it like, sealed off to him?
Very cool glitch, awesome to post this and keep these classics alive.
Makes me think of that line from The Crow: "It can't rain all the time." :) Very neat! Thanks for sharing! :D
Oh? But maybe it can!
@@elio7610 Sure as hell does in TotK. >:(
@@ARUCARDFTEPESLuckily there's things that make it not as debilitating as in BOTW lol
Amazing, this master piece of game keeps on giving
Nice! I Actually didn't know about this sequence break trick. I usually don't speedrun much; but this is literally one of my favorite games. Going to try this out now and freak my son the heck out!
The rain staying on is probably because it's some kind of screen overlay that's triggered by an ingame flag, and since it was never turned off the overlay just freezes at the default position without whatever motion they had programmed in. The end credits have the background as bars scrolling sideways so that must effect the rain overlay too. I'd guess it's because the credits scene is just a black overlay over the game scene, which puts it on the same layer as the rain that covers the game scene.
Then when you save and quit, it puts you where the game was last actually saved, which wasn't on the pyramid like it puts you by default after beating the game. Is the overworld effected by the speedrun too? or did it just completely reset?
It was a little shocking hearing Mr Rogers say “but this is cursed as hell” and “there’s no where we can really go so we might as well just die.”
“This is cursed as hell”
7:29
"You cant really go anywhere because all of the different paths are each blocked by items that you get from the dungeons, and since we dont have any of the items; you really cant go anywhere."
Genius.
Like Norm level hillarious.
Nice little speed run. Love these old glitches.
I cant wait to do a dream run!
i could listen to you talk about What-EVER , FORever
"It restarts you here, and everything is back to normal. We're right here at the beginning of the game again. It's like we never actually beat the game in the first place, and it was all just a dream..."
*Link's Awakening has entered the chat*
It looks like all the enemies in the cursed Dark World are trying to act like the enemies that would be in that corresponding location in the Light World at that time, but because of a different sprite set, it's acting up. Note that the bombs don't immediately explode: the cyclops has immediately exploding bombs, but the guard that throws bombs doesn't. The Cyclops is also moving like the bomb guard, not the cyclops.
Its crazy how there's always so much more to discover about these old games
"Now, touch it with a wish in your heart."
I need to remember that line.
I'm going to have to try this out.
6:22 that is the force field that the wizard put on the door of the light world. The one that you are supposed to break with the master sword in order to have the first fight with him
Ohhh, that makes sense.
Ah, good call! I knew the behavior seemed familiar, but I just couldn't place it. What a trip.
It looks like the enemy that kinda uses its tongue steals from u, like 2 of them just throwing up on each other perpetually
This game brings back wonderful memories. This glitch is really trippy 😮
thanks for that tip, definitely gonna give it a go just to see it for myself! Good luck on your channel dude!
Amazing how just a couple of variables can affect the game like this, yet its still kinda playable
This is an insane find!! Good day to you sir and your curious mind.
Pretty entertaining to watch great video
Seeing this makes me want to get an SNES emulator and play this all over like I was five years old again.
Your voice is like if Mr. Rogers was a gamer. I love it!
i was going to say he sounds like a young version of Bruce from Family Guy , very calming
I'm loving it - McDonalds
@@MichaelCharles-zn6rh Ooohh! That works, too!
100%!!! I was thinking the EXACT same thing!
'Now touch it, with a wish in your heart'
This is really cool
Interesting how the light and dark worlds get collapsed together; that glitchy thing at the top of the pyramid looks like the barrier on Agahnim's door, and you can make out the glitchy figures of two of the soldiers that tell you to go home just a bit south of that.
I kind of like how you get stuck in a cursed world just until you die and continue, though. Like the game's saying "now go back and do it right." I doubt it was intentional on the part of the developers, but it's the sort of thing that could have been.
Both worlds Arena one map but with different tileset.
@@DrachenKaiser That would explain it then, yeah. Game's not entirely sure where you're at, you have game clear data so it defaults you to dark world, but flags that would prevent certain sprites from appearing never got set, and there was no reason to expect to need to handle that.
Makes me wonder though, if you use the hookshot/mirror glitch to get down to the pyramid from death mountain early, does the Agahnim barrier appear, or does it maybe get spawned and despawned by warp tiles and the mirror while it's meant to exist?
Welcome, Link...
I am the Essence of the Triforce.
I... honestly didn't expect you to come so soon.
Hope this won't mess anything up...
When I was 16, I beat this game 100% in less than 3 days.
Go for under 3 hours...very doable no glitching required
Thanks for making this man :D
I somehow triggered this glitch when I was 8 years old. I didn't know I could have beaten the game this way. I thought I was stuck in the walls and went from room to room until I got bored and reset the game.
The thing at the top of the pyramid is the barrier that leads into the castle.
Oh you're right, it is lol
When I was a kid I'd throw on a pair of sunglasses and enter the dark world. They were my magic mirror.
Love your way of speaking/communicating! Simultaneously entertaining and somehow soothing haha
This run is also very easy to perform! I just did it after watching the video!
I don't know if there's any place you can access that you could get the superbunny glitch, but that would open up some interesting new options.
I have beaten link to the past over a dozen times and got all the items but have never even heard of doing that...
Amazing !!!!!
🤔😱🤯❤🤣
I was just wondering last night about speedruns and glitches for this game, since I know a lot of the series has the most insane speedrunning strategies.
When you restart stuck in the dark world, it's a unique insight to what every other normal person trapped there must feel like, with only one way out...
Also, regarding the wacky sprites:
The background rain layer moving both directions in the credits is replacing the cloud effects that would normally play. Like the dungeon maps, there's probably a large sprite sheet for enemies, NPCs, etc. and the glitch offset which sprites the game loads in. Rain stays as the BG layer instead of clouds and moves the way the clouds would have.
The "bomb-throwing guy" (those are actually Hinox) was really one of the spear enemies, strange that one Hinox stayed with the right sprite though.
Also the projectile the darkworld octoroks are spitting actually looks like a body piece of those stacking enemies. Not sure what they are called, but you see them in Turtle Rock and they look like pokies from Mario.
Also, also, I like how you call Zelda out in the intro for her psychic booty call.
"Hey Link, U up?"
That's really cool. It would be cool to get the moon pearl or a couple items to explore the map and then do this trick again.
this, brain lord and super Metroid are some of the games I wish I still had.
Holy shit this is crazy
Yeah I didn't know you could beat it like that
Crazy? I was crazy once... Or was it twice?... Maybe thrice... Perhaps it never ended, the urge to copypaste has certainly not ended.
I did something similar to this, but I let Ball and Chain Trooper hit me instead. I didn't explore enough to pass Ganon. This is pretty cool, I love glitching games, doing things that the developers didn't foresee. I also like then the developers DO plan for players to go about in unexpected ways, so no glitch can occur (e.g. 3 different dialogues for meeting the Zora king in Breath of the Wild).
So, you've doomed Hyrule to eternal rain and its residents are now hideous mutants.
You're a monster!
That is wild great job ✌️
Excellent. Thanks for sharing! Also, your voice is what I would expect from a Seth Macfarlane character.
Will you make a follow up video where you get the pearl before the Triforce and then see how far you can go, please!
that's a cool idea, I'll have to try to see if i can craft a route for that
Neat, the save-game hack will let me do the speed run again without having to disassemble my controller! Because yeah, that's how it used to be done, pressing Up and Down at the same time is something the programmers never protected against, because who's gonna take their controller apart just to press them simultaneously, then exploit the same room with the blue soldier for its north-south doors being on different zlevels.
This is my favorite game ever & I never knew this despite playing it a billion times. I'm speechless
Love it. You’re a boss
"All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. We are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves." -Bill Hicks
It was all just a dream lol
That’s awesome, I love this kind of stuff.
after watching this video i'm officially calling it The Legend of Zelda: A Link To Shrooms
When in bunny form, you can use the magic mirror but thats the only thing I'm aware of
If every time Link is defeated, he is respawned to battle again until he defeats Ganon, then from Ganon's viewpoint maybe he too also respawns every time he is defeated. So there must be a world where Ganon always defeats every incarnation of Link.
That’s trippy to think about
Oooooooooh. New game.
The four games or so apparently followed a timeline where Ganon killed Link at the end of Ocarina Of Time (despite that game coming out 12 years after the first one), so you're not that far off.
That's some cuck logic
Love the commentary. Subscribed
Geez, got the tri force before even got his breakfast.
I found the PAR code that enables the Dev controls.
I found out what's in those holes in the main room....
It's GANNON
That's cool! Thanks calic!
This makes me think that Super Metroid has one too because those games used the exact same graphics. Super Mario World as well. 1993-94 had a ton of games with basically the same code. Anything with Koji Kondo doing the sound.
Yeah there's one that makes doors take you to the wrong places
Amazing ty for sharing
Legend has it that it is still raining.
A good video for the algorithm-most everyone will watch to the end.
A link to the past is such a fun game
So.. you can actually travel through the floor. I drew maps of it and you can get some items from dungeons and stuff before you beat the castle.
It's been a while since I did a mangled progression run. Thanks for teaching me loading a post-credits save skips the pre-lantern Agahim fight.
Confirmed possible with an emulator! Very cool glitch. Thanks for sharing.
This is the GOAT video game. Period.
wow that's really cool, great video !!
If you complete the GBA version without ever saving the game, a similar glitch is triggered. And since players of the SNES version have to beat the game without saving to get the 0 score, I couldn't have been the only player to encounter the glitch. On my first playthrough I never saved, believing that I wasn't allowed to if I wanted 0 deaths. And after I beat the game and reloaded my save, I was turned into Bunny Link. Except in the GBA version, you're in the Light World. Your save file is permanently ruined.
Should have expected a save to not penalize the player in the GBA port, since portable games naturally have shorter playing sessions.
That was tons of fun. Thanks for that. (:
Wow unbelievable!!!, I never knew that and I played that game at release, although you all call it a bug I don’t think it is cuz Zelda transforming into a bunny and the entire world changing is no bug, it had to be coded that way so I think Nintendo discovered the initial bug that triggered the events and added a flint for the lucky ones that discovered it, they just never officially admitted it but of course that’s just my opinion I could be wrong.
Hey fellow 100 sub channel. Good video and SUBBED!
dude i love this video, also your accent sort of reminds me of mr. rogers
'This thing is cursed as hell' 😂
Bunny Link rules cursed Dark World! Woohoo until he doesn't lol
What would happen if you had already gotten the moon pearl and some other early items before trying this? Then you could explore more of the glitchy dark world?
You have a really cool voice for narrating 🙌
Yeah was thinking the same. It was engaging and very relaxing at the same time
