He just has a feel for the game. He understands timing, he understands spacing and leverage. He plays smooth and under control. He can scramble. He’s a flat out gamer. Would have played in the SB in his first 2 years if he didn’t get injured. Sky’s the limit

Coming from a chiefs fan he played better than almost any other QB against our defense in that Super Bowl. Josh Allen is probably the only QB who played much better. But he played light years ahead of Lamar and Tua.

I’m a chiefs fan as well but you could argue that being on the 49ers offense and being under Kyle shannahan. The chiefs have the most to deal with playing San Fran. Against Baltimore it’s pretty much all efforts against Lamar. You can live with with whatever his edwards or Justice hill is going to do.

@@KI-wz7pr I would counter by saying regardless of talent around them Lamar was awful. Purdy is in a better situation, but Allen for example played great in a less than favorable situation where I would argue Lamar made the rest of the ravens offense look worse in that game.

    • @KI-wz7pr

@@jacksonpayne3477 fair point but I’ve seen a history of shannahan being able to protect the Qb. He is able to procure game plans without putting all the weight on the Qb. I think Purdy is very good but I wonder what happens when your rb isn’t the best in the nfl. You don’t have a top scoring defense and shannahan is forced to put him into more shotgun sets and less playaction.

@@KI-wz7pr Idk about "protect the qb" when his offensive lines have always been horrendous pass blockers(28th in the league in 23-24). He was just always able to make the most out of an rb because its a run first scheme
Nobody considers Mosert a top rb but he sure as shit puts up the stats of one in Kyle's system, Elijah Mitchell is in that same boat

    • @KI-wz7pr
      @KI-wz7pr 23 дні тому

@@fate8718 when I say protect the Qb I mean in play style not o line. That’s why I reference play action. Playing Qb with the lead 90% of the time and a strong run game is very favorable because you rarely face defenses that are playing with the advantage. You get a lot of half field reads from bootlegs. Try being in 3rd and 5+ from shotgun when the defense knows you have to throw. Shannahn system is built in avoiding these situations and it’s been perfect because San Fran has had top 5 scoring defenses a lot recently.

At 3:10 his arm *_WAS_* hit, causing the interception. The protection broke down, which was a major problem (especially on the right side of the O-Line last season). And, of course, Kyle called a play over the middle. He usually does. Purdy didn't "can" the play. He went with what was sent in by Kyle.

All quarterbacks play within their team's system.
The critique within the NFL made by some fans and some NFL entertainers is that Brock Purdy is ONLY a byproduct of the Kyle Shanahan system. This opinion is biased and short-sighted.
    Why?
Clearly, Brock Purdy is capable of playing off platform and/or outside of Kyle Shanahan's system. He often does it. As you mentioned Shanahan's system isn't perfect. Shanahan makes mistakes too. Brock Purdy is able to play free outside of Shanahan's system when his plays breakdown. Brock Purdy both creates plays and extends plays when they breakdown.
The 49ers winning the Lions playoff game is a DIRECT RESULT of Brock Purdy making something out of nothing.
There's a lot of bias within the NFL for quarterbacks that don't fit the "Superman Quarterback" mold. NFL entertainers have cemented the idea that an NFL quarterbacks job is to carry his entire team. This couldn't be further from the truth.
It isn't the quarterback's job to be a one man team. The "Superman Quarterback" narrative is hurting the NFL. Hopefully, fans will educate themselves about the quarterback position so that NFL entertainers can no longer push false narratives with success.
Brock Purdy is a good quarterback that is still learning, growing and developing his skill sets.
The future is bright for the 49ers. 49ers fans should be happy about it. I know, I am.

Big Play QBs make all the highlight videos...and that is what most of the fans see.
But, Big Play QBs rarely go to the SB.
Consistently good players like Brady and Purdy don't make the highlight videos,
But, they win games, win games and win games and go to the SB.
Cam Newton said the Purdy is not a good athlete. Newton, a great athlete, only went to the SB once. While Tom Brady, who was one of the worst athlete in the entire NFL, went to the SB 10 times.
Justin Fields was a Big Play QB, but he was traded for a 6th round pick. Fields only won about 25% of the games he played in. Fields couldn't or wouldn't consistently make the easy little plays to keep his offensive team on the field and the other offensive team on the bench.

It turns out being surrounded by pro bowl talent can actually make a QB look better than they really are.

I'd only put Mahomes, Burrow, and Allen ahead of him.
Jackson, Herbert, Lawrence, Stafford and Stroud are decent arguments but not clearly at this juncture. Prescott, Tua and Cousins one could also argue but those are really questionable. Giving you that I'm guessing you'd argue the Niners would be better with any of those guys on the team.
I wouldn't trade Brock for anyone outside of the top 3 listed here and even then the value goes down in terms of salary cap hit. Only clearly I'd say there are 3 QBs that would be an upgrade but outside of that it's debatable and at the end of the day it really it doesn't matter.
Drew Brees is the comp. If you have a great QB like that you build around him and that's what the 49ers have. Others may be better in some ways but he's got enough to win it all. Mahomes is a problem for the whole league not just the Niners. Less than that every team has questions but at QB for my Niners, that's not a question imho. Best

People argue on here like "if your Corolla had a lambo engine it would be faster". Yes of course but if you value price to reliability you wouldn't want to do that. You'd void warranties etc. We'll never fn know. Brock may be a Corolla compared to the Lambos of QBs. But he's reliable and low mileage and has the ability to get better. You act like you can't get from point A to point B because you're driving a Corolla. Thing is his mental processor is elite while the physical is less than, overall it's more than enough. Everything is hypothetical.
In this reality my Niners need to focus on upgrading at CB and offensive line WAY more than they need to worry about QB. It's hard to get that right but we did for the most part (backwards wasting picks on Lance etc but that's another story) and for now it's a waste of mental energy to argue about that particular position and rather one should continue to bolster the rest of the roster for another run. My 2 cents.
People need to chill. It's a team game unless you're one of the top 3 who can elevate the team by that much. Look at Trevor Lawrence. I know he's better than the numbers show but the rest of the team is not good enough and it shows. You have to have a lot go your way to win a superbowl unless you drafted Mahomes or Brady in the last 30 years. There are no guarantees only probabilities and I like my odds with this team as is and would focus on what one can control but that's just me.
Also, just get the Lambo if you can. In the meantime get the right tires, align the suspension properly change your oil etc. That's my analogy. Yes of course I'd rather have a Lambo but we didn't get one yet. So in the meantime let's make what we have run the best it can and look at how that's true. I don't get the intensity of why people are so ready to hate on this kid.

To me, there is Patrick Mahomes, then a sizeable gap downwards, at Demi-God I would put Josh Allen, with Burrow a hair behind him. Then, a really large gap, and clump the rest of the QBs to Good/System/whatever...and you can put your favorite QB here if they are half way decent: Dak, Love, Herbert, Purdy, Lamar Jackson, Hurts, and I am sure I missed someone. Some might say disrespect for Lamar, but I think he fits in their in that system group. I don't think you can plug and play him in Buffalo, KC, etc. No disrespect on any of these dudes, they could all win a super bowl. Then, there is "middling" Cousins, Carr, Lawrence, Mayfield, etc..Lastly, there is hot garbage, you know who they are, whomever can't fit in above. That's just a long winded way of saying the QB world is Mahomes, by a mile, then Allen and Burrow. Then, everybody else in one tier or another. So, Purdy is good =P

I think that it comes down to a long-term strategy with these quarterback assessments. Most quarterbacks are not Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady. How do you want go win a Super Bowl? Youdo what the Rams did and go all in and winSuper Bowl and then struggle for years. The Eagles Did that and just fell short. Houston Texans have gone all in and will probably win the Super Bowl next year. Problem with Purdy is he’s not as good as CJ Stroud so when they have to pay Stroud it’s not gonna be such a problem. When you have to pay Purdy Kyles strategy will fall apart.
