Earl's Court - The Venue on the Esplanade in St. Kilda. I saw so many great Australian bands there in the 80s - including Hunters, Sunny Boys, Big Pig and Lime Spiders. When they were pulling it down many years later (to make way for soul-less bland apartments) I went there late one night and stood on the footpath outside the fencing to remember, to pay homage and to give thanks. I looked at the half-demolished basilica before me which held in its bones so much music and so many stories, and I cried. I cried for my memories, and I cried because those bandrooms and those bands and those days of original Australian music being played live all over Melbourne suburbs every night will never be again. I don't think any of us could have realised just how lucky we were.
Mate, I used to go there on Wednesday nights in the early 80s and I think it was $10 for several bands and all the beer you could drink. Saw Split Enz there too. I lived near Ritchies in Cramer Street and they had great bands every Friday night. We were incredibly lucky.

You left out the Painters and Dockers, weddings parties anything, INXs at the Townhall… , I remember the smell of the concrete on Fitzroy street when bars closed. Drunk bastards dodging the trams while tarts wobbled out of the Prince. Ahh. So lucky we were indeed! Haha. Melbourne in the late 80s-90s wasn’t all paradise, but damn it was fun. One thing about seeing James play these songs solo... the guitars are never right. Not like this. It took me nearly a full minute when I saw him to realise his band was playing 'Errol' - only when he started singing truly 😂 I put it down to issues playing live - but its just that no one else is Simon Binks I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ His consumately clinical professionalism in his playing blows me away in all the old live clips. Respect 👏 (Edit: it's fitting in a way. That maybe the magic of the band lived and died with the band, and can't be recreated without all the original parts)

thedys70 I haven’t suggested the accident was Simon’s fault or otherwise.
@@jamesgray7576 Sorry, not implying that you did bro. Most of us have car accidents, but most of us don't wear that same misfortune that befell other crawl members, was perhaps the point i was attempting....
@@jamesgray7576 If you think that was tragic what about MiSEX Steve Bilpin car accident.
Que som! Sei que se torna clichê falar que essa época é sem igual no quesito musica com emoção... mas eu tenho que falar, pois é impossível. Vontade de viajar no tempo para viver isso tudo!
Yeah, I love the aussie rock! Cheers from Argentina.
Hi Argentina, I understand you have the best prawns in the world, something about the crystal clear 💦. If this is so, watch out for AUSSIES following their stomachs over to you lot.

An awesome band to see live. Lorne RSL on a hot summer's night c. 1982. Unforgettable.
The good old days..... memories
Great lead guitarist!
That's how it was , "SWEET " , " Then, but they opened up the joint , .This is PROPPER Aussie ," fair dinkum , , excellent, sandman
So much Mullet and a Fairdinkum Aussie band.Fkn unreal. Indisposed best version ever, Beautiful People brilliant.
Such great stuff - glad a friend told me about them
Thanks for posting this, had it on tape and played it to death. Binksys guitar, oh my!! New every lick on this live performance. Had to get a strat, yeah an l-series just like Simon
Simons lead guitar on “unpublished critics” is absolutely awesome!!
He had such a great voice (even though you can't make out the words!). And a great body! Neither of those things do I recall noticing when I used to watch them in the 80s!
Great band but biggest setback with Reyne was that nobody knew what the hell he was singing (until you read a lyrics sheet).
Great Aussie Band
What lucky people to have seen James that nite !
Hi. How are you doing. Hope you are fine and staying safe out there?
Now I'm older looking back at Australian Crawl they seem so much like The Sports. I certainly know The Sports came first.

Passionate by Australian Music from 80’’s - Surf Music.
The best songs !
My first CD was exactly from this band. 🤍
No more K7 . 😅
And all shows that my school friend then Musical Productor who brought to my country?
All Aussie Bands . Thanks brother friend R. Chantilly!
Good times 80/90’s. Music is already enough to bring joy and fun.
They are absolutely the best and I always love to listen. How are you doing Suzana. Hope you are fine and staying safe out there?
I will be waiting for the English version of 'Shutdown'.
English isn’t your first language?
I see what you did!
Such an epic band
One thing about seeing James play these songs solo... the guitars are never right. Not like this. It took me nearly a full minute when I saw him to realise his band was playing 'Errol' - only when he started singing truly 😂 I put it down to issues playing live - but its just that no one else is Simon Binks I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
His consumately clinical professionalism in his playing blows me away in all the old live clips. Respect 👏
(Edit: it's fitting in a way. That maybe the magic of the band lived and died with the band, and can't be recreated without all the original parts)
