The question was pathetic. The RNLI was asked, by the French, to help a boat in French waters. That means that the boat was returned to a French port. The occupants of that boat had not broken any law so would have been released in France. Had the French not asked for help then the RNLI would not be allowed to enter French waters (don't forget that the people had broken no law in France) and would have to wait for the boat to enter UK waters where they will have broken UK law and would need to be taken to the UK. That is so simple that you would need to be thick not to understand it. Why are we paying £100k a year for thick people to ask stupid questions in parliament?
The point of her answer is that, you can't just send them back and call it a day. We have to have a mechism where we collaborate with our neighbours so that we can solve the problem at the source. The answer is a lot more complex than a simple yes or no, a simple action like that will have reproductions which will not be a net positive.
How are you going to remove that incentive? The migrants who come to the UK are generally leaving countries that are in economic ruin or in states of conflict. Further, the biggest pulls to the UK for the ones that do come are language and existing family or friends who have come to the UK. So, unless you’re planning to fix a load of countries so that people don’t feel compelled to leave, change the language so it doesn’t attract people who speak the same language anymore and get rid of anyone who might have relations overseas… you’re going to fail. There is also a degree of evidence that suggests because the UK labour market is quite deregulated, we don’t do ID cards and we have a significant “cash in hand” segment of the economy it is much easier to just disappear here than it is in many other European countries. You can’t stop migration. You can manage it, and you can channel it into something productive, or you can sit and whinge about it… but the problem remains.

I have a question, it appears basic at first, but I have yet to receive any reasonable answer from any Government. My question is “Why”? Why do we need any immigrants? We have proved that they cost the country more than they have made. The claim is that GDP has gone up, true, but not GDP per capita, we are all poorer as individuals. We have been told our birth rate is too low, but “the expression, don’t breed them if you can’t feed them” is well known. The cost of living affects the birth rate. We are told we need NHS workers, but we limit the number of medical students in the uk! All these are short term financial reasons, but what of our long term values as a society, what of our standard of living, what our our shared memories and of being part of a nation and not simply a group single persons on an island in a global world. Why do we need 100,000 + migrants per year, simply because it’s less than 600,000? I value difference, why would I visit France or Italy etc if they were exactly the same as here? Putting everything and everyone in a blender simply makes everything unpalatable.. we must protect the essence of what it is to be British and repel all those that would change us at an expedited rate (eg invasion) be the threat domestic or foreign, we must do this diplomatically and militarily. Our own democracy has been effectively weaponised against the indigenous British people.✌️🇬🇧
@AK-rh1bh Yes we need a limited number of migrants to cover short term shortages in a given field, I say short term because we can’t rely on immigration Labour indefinitely when we should be training our own. Whilst these migrants help in a particular field of employment our national infrastructure suffers as does our social cohesion. We don’t need further ID’s … If employees can’t produce a passport or driving licence, then there should be a temporary form of identity made available to those that ask for it. Using this system, no ID = no work, benefits etc. Re migrant numbers PA we must go for a net zero or less approach and we must get our own people back into work. Denmark should be studied to see if lessons can be learnt in preventing the ghettos and no go areas forming around the country.
