    Hey ! I am a pilot and to answer a couple of your questions there.
    1- ETOPS is a certification which allows airlines to fly on a single engine even with the loss of the other over large water bodies. the 777 can conveniently do this for 3 hours (when the plane first got certified), today the 777 is rated for over 5 hour ETOPS. Meaning 5 hours safely it can fly with the just one engine operative.
    2- We aren't taught how to land on water, but we are taught how to ditch. Landing on water is tricky considering the aeroplane has to be well configured, the waves are always a possibility and a lot of things need to be taken into consideration. A water landing will only be done if both the engines flame out and we really don't have an airport to glide. Losing both engines on a plane like the 777, the probability is almost nil, considering the safety drills and certifications it goes through. That being said, should it happen, pilots are trained to bring it down safe.

      It’s just funny how most of the aircraft to Hawaii and 737/A320 sized planes. Which idk how I feel about that when it comes to how small it is. Over 2 and half hours of water.

    • @madbirds

      Putinisgood why? It’s safe.

    • @madbirds
      @madbirds 6 років тому +1

      Putinisgood turbulence makes flying funner. Also turbulence don’t take planes down... yea that be a long flight if it was bad turbulence but would made it fun.

    • @madbirds
      @madbirds 6 років тому +4

      Putinisgood also if it wasn’t safe millions of people wouldn’t be flying... or thousands of planes flying right now.

    To answer your question at 13:41 if pilots are trained to land on water or not. I have been flying since the age of 15 years old with a flight instructor, now being a ATP rated pilot flying widebody and narrow body aircraft, before that flying small Cessna's and Falcons as a corporate pilot, flying for a total of 17 years now. I have had many different training levels over the years and I will do my best to explain to you what we are trained and not trained to do.
    First off (Commercial Pilots) are required to train on their company simulators approximately every nine (9) to twelve (12) months. During these sessions we are presented with a host of situations from what we call "Plain Vanilla" or just "Vanilla" emergencies like, engine failures, wind shear, two engine loss at high and low altitudes and even hydraulic failure from minor to total failure.
    We are also given emergencies scenarios that give us the chance to explore the full capabilities of the aircraft we pilot like, aircraft fires, problems with the aircraft structure, high speed descents, losing all engines on take-off as well as a few others.
    Now when it comes to water landings (AKA Water Ditching) our Company does train us on the parameters of Emergency Ditching. Are we given any specific scenarios other than basic engine failure, that leads up to the water landing? No. Unfortunately we are not. When it comes to a safe landing on the water, I really don't like to say it like this, but it all is in the hands of the experience of your PIC or (Pilot In Command).
    I hope these answered your questions and if you have anymore questions please feel free to contact me at anytime.
    GOD BLESS!!!!

    I put the fear of flying out of my mind because up there, if anything goes wrong, there’s nothing you can do, nothing. That gives me peace of mind and somehow relaxes me. Giving up control over things can be a comfort surprisingly. And catastrophic crashes, there’s no pain when you land, it’s instantaneous. I know exactly what to do if anything like that happens, hug my daughter and tell my wife I love her. Everything else is out of my control. I know kind of morbid thinking, but it helps to take the pressure off myself. I don’t worry about the flight, I try to live my life on board, minute by minute.

    • @fhowl3736
      @fhowl3736 Рік тому

      Planes are not dangerous at all. Even if there is an engine failure, the plane can still fly on one engine. If anything goes wrong, which is extremely unlikely, there is almost always a procedure for it that allows for it to be fixed. Just remember that the most dangerous part of flying is driving to and from the airport.

    N777US has two Pratt 4077s. United has traditionally been a huge Pratt and Whitney supporter and most of their fleet had them - 777s, 747s, etc. With GE and Rolls assuming a more dominant role in the engine space and Pratt suffering from several sub par performances over the past few years, there are fewer Pratts in United's fleet.

    This aircraft is powered by Pratt and Whitney PW4000...you can distinguish a PW engine from a GE engine merely by the nose cone marking....the PW has either a white circle (some GE engines such as the CF6 has this) or straight white line like that, and the GE-90 has a semi spiral white marking on the nose cone.

    Back in the 1970s, I flew as a Director of Passenger Service for Continental. I used to fly weekends...Saturday = LAX-HNL-LAX and Sunday the same thing. When passengers asked me if I was concerned about flying over the water, I would tell them we couldn't possibly land in the ocean because our uniforms weren't wash and wear! When I flew, our aircraft were either three engine DC-10 or four engine 747. When I was flying with family a short time ago, I was asked what "ETOPS" meant. Rather than the real meaning, I just said, "Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim."

    Thinking about plane crashes makes you even scarier. I also had the same problem when I was in kindergarten. I loved watching air crash investigation series and on the next day, I flew on an airplane to Busan. As I approached to Busan airport, there was a part of ocean which reminded me the video I watched the day before. In situations like 13:51, try to not think about air crashes. Being careful is good but when you become too careful, that will be a phobia. I recommend to take short flights like Brussels to London that has just a small part of sea. I also got rid of my phobia by fliying from Seoul to Jeju island which only has small parts of sea.

    It’s now four years later (2022) and UA still has the exact same domestic “First Class” product on their 777-200’s. The four abreast middle section does not feel premium at all. There’s no sense of privacy- you can easily see the other video monitors in front of you, and when it came time to sleep, it felt like a sleepover. No space between the seats means all four are lying down together, and my seatmate was tossing around so he would occasionally hit me with his bare legs or feet (he was wearing shorts and had taken off his shoes and socks to sleep!) The food was good and the service was personable (anything is better than the cold salad they give in economy). Bags were tagged priority but came out the same time or later than regular bags. Hope they upgrade their hard product on the 777-200.

    The oldest is actually B-HNL (LN 1) currently in service with Cathay Pacific (CX/CPA).

    • @nigmosh65
      @nigmosh65 6 років тому +1

      GAJ Gamer This aircraft is the first ever 777 user for passenger service. Kinda misleading, but B-HNL is an older airframe. However, B-HNL entered service with Cathay in 2000, 5 yrs after N777UA.

    So sad that that that 744 is now either in VCV, or scrapped. If only UA save one.

    My father is a pilot for United Airlines. He does most of his flying to and from Hawaii. Every time before their flight they do map out and plan incase of an emergency. So your in safe hands :)

    When I saw the tail number of the 777 you were riding, I wondered if you knew that 2477 is in fact the first 777 to enter commercial service, and then you captioned it in your video! It's pretty exciting. I live on Guam so this 777 cycles through here once in a while and I have had the pleasure of riding on it between GUM and NRT and HNL several times already; imagine my excitement! Also being from GUM, I have no choice but to fly over the vast Pacific (it really is vast, isn't it?) so I find your fear/phobia so interesting because you have flown the world over! Thank you for sharing!

    First edition 777's to United fitted with PW4084 engines. Possible engine replacement during that time, but definitely not GE.

    Hello Mr. Luxury, recently have a flight on AA 777-200 and the crew told me the 777 versions have some issues on luggage compartments[not enough] in economy class, because the 777-300 carry most passengers they said is worst then 200 version, you see cabin crew entering all the time to business class area looking for empty luggage compartments before departure.
