This is the kind of life I'm looking for. Laid back, free from stress, being able to grow my food and cultivate my garden and enjoy fresh and organic food. Meeting and greeting friendly neighbors and has closed bond relationship with the family in a beautiful, fresh, and clean environment. This is a little paradise on earth.
I don't think they were saying that their lives were free from stress, they did go through two world wars after all. It seems that they dealt with their stress better than we do with the stresses of the modern world. Perhaps they didn't have the same expectations of an easy life that we have grown up with?
It is so obvious to me why these people grow older. The fabric of their culture has not been ripped apart by modernism. They want to hold on as long as possible because it offers them the opportunity to see their great grandchildren grow old. It is obvious the family bonds are still intact and old people are revered elders.
Sure, the diet and exercise will help, but without those invisible social structures its like trying to fix a car with good parts but no knowledge of car repair.
Sorry but what you said it’s not exactly, in fact the main reason of longevity is based on genetic. Secondly even the non-modernity as you mentioned actually is not correct because close family and friendship ties, plenty of sunshine which don’t concern non- modernity (in general the Italian life-style demonstrated by science) are some of the reasons of Italian’s longevity.
@Adam A. That is the secret! Eat what grows organically in the soil. Sunshine, moderate exercise, family relationships etc. But modern life is killing every single thing created by God and create their own GMO's including creating GMO human
My Opinion is, that they walk a lot, eat very little processed food, have less stress and a higher balance in life. All together it results in more appreciation of life itself, which leads to a stronger will to continue with it in old age.
They live a stress free life, they are happy, thats the secret. They live as a family together, grandmother sees and play with her great granddaughter.

All of their children, including my father who is still alive at 94, lived close to 100. Their first language was Italian. My grandparents were born in Italy, we have relatives in that region. Breakfast at 12 AM and dinner at 5 PM... that's a 18-19 hours of no eating.... that's the key for longevity: leave a gap of at least 12 hours between feeding periods. Studies on rats showed impressive results on longevity and health resistance. Humans seem to follow the same rule.
Actually she said they have lunch at 12 am and dinner at 17 pm. Of course they also have breakfast earlier in the morning, around 6-7 am I suppose. I’m also from Italy, from the region of Piedmont, which is different in many aspects from Sardinia, but even my grandparents use to eat more or less at the same time
I think it's only like 20%-25% diet. And for the most part, it's just the lifetstyle in general. They get natural vitamin d from the sun, they are always active and have great socila lives etc.
After a certain age like around 30, we need to eat more vegetables and fruits and less meat, also we need to use olive oil in cooking and eat less oily food this, in turn, can keep us healthy and fit.
+Zoncolan nope , you need to reduce protein intake if you want to live long, there is a clear body of evidence that diet rich in protein is detrimental to good health and longevity and it promotes cancer. sarcopénia has nothing to to do with protein intake, the only way to slow it down is regular strength exercises.
I am from cilento, and I guarantee you, those guys in the video eat meat everyday. Mostly white meat, but it's still meat. This vegetarian propaganda won't get you far in reality.
Mediterranean food is the secret simply because it is rich in olives, olive oil, vegetables, fruits nuts with chicken and fish mainly and a little red meat it's healthy yet the best tasting on the planet.
Red meat isn't the problem (and I don't support meat generally, because I eat very little) but I know Sardinia, and there is a lot of red meat- beef and lamb - but it is grown on green pastures, not fed with chemical food and kept inside.
A strong sense of community, a healthy organic diet, and simple life which the whole world once had is now the subject of scientific study. That goes to tell you how messed up we've become.

Not true, they eat fish, meat (not so much red meat) and cheese often. Some decades ago meat (especially red meat) was not widely available but they had pork, poultry and fish often, not so sporadically.
Something that is not mentioned is height. Most people in these blue zones are relatively short and so are most centenarians. Height and weight demand more effort from the heart.

Dont forget that these people lived 2 world wars.. they had very little food and almost no meat during their young age and for sure no sugar and all the food that we have today. They walk and move everyday, they ate natural foods and during the wars they struggled. That made them stronger. If you notice the other women with the old woman are all fat. Few meat from their land but not always; very little for almost 3/4 of their life. They eat very early at night and sometimes soups that give the digestion good rest.

They aren't stressed like the younger generation in Italy because they have a pension and have owned their houses for several generations. They were in their 20's during the second World War so I think that they have had 70 years to get past the psychological trauma of that war. The younger more anxious generation that they mentioned in the end live in a more globalized and competitive world. In order to stand on their own two feet they have to move to the bigger cities (Sassari, Oristano, Cagliari,Rome, Milan etc) to hustle and find work. Hustle = more stress. As the mentioned, the environment isn't saturated with massive environmentaly destructive industries however, because there isn't a big industrial footprint there aren't that many young people walking around. No industry=organic food and lots of long living old folks however it also= not enough jobs for the younger generations= low birthrate for the region= problems in the future.

My dad will be 91 this year, his brother was a few months short of 101 when he died, his sisters and brothers all lived into their 90’s. He’s the baby, the last one left. He still drives, goes out to eat, helps me with my children. Etc. amazing isn’t it? And I happened upon this video by chance. We live in NJ. These people are my blood ❤️ Sincerely, Maria Vassallo
They don't have fast food in these regions. They ate the healthy local food. Olive oil, beans, whole graines, eggs, fish, nuts, fruit, local dark greens, water (very little alcohol).
How about taking into account their overall quality of life? Are they stressed? The other thing to consider is strong community which provides a safety net, so to speak, they are not alienated like a large number of elderly individuals are in other countries. Also check the chemistry of the soil, this may give a clue- micronutrients.
The medetaranian diet is healthy because of its richness in fresh whole foods, plenty of fruit, starch, and veggies and low meat consumption . It is healthy in spite of the olive oil, not because of it. this is clear especially if you compare the other blue zone diets. And the overwhelming amount of research indicating the problems of vegetable oils and meat. All the blue zones have a starch based diet, and none of them gets most of there calories from meat or fats.
If you think organic extra virgin olive oil is the same as the rest of the oils, you obviously are not from the Meditteranean. Good olive oil protects the cells from aging and was used by the Greeks in large quantities. Olive oil was known as green gold and had many medicinal uses. In Greece they still sell St. John's wort oil that remedies ulcers and other intestinal diseases.
I'm a healthy 74. In the 1950s my parents cooked a lamb leg on Sundays and the one leg lasted our family of five till Thursday. We thought that normal. Today, five people would eat two legs on Sunday and think that normal.
In Asia we believe that if you have Buddha's ears, you live longer. That means you have that long ear with big lobes. I hope people will study that and look at the percentage. They also need to look at the blood type of these people!
Peoples ears get larger and sag as they age. Ear lobe size changes with age and piercings. So of coarse all the elderly seem to have biggish ears. Chances are they didn't in their youth.
Indeed!
I don't think they were saying that their lives were free from stress, they did go through two world wars after all. It seems that they dealt with their stress better than we do with the stresses of the modern world. Perhaps they didn't have the same expectations of an easy life that we have grown up with?
@@vickiworthington2441 exactly!
No stress? Bullsh*t. It’s all about how you handle the stress without making an impact on your health.
So you want to be a loser
It is so obvious to me why these people grow older. The fabric of their culture has not been ripped apart by modernism. They want to hold on as long as possible because it offers them the opportunity to see their great grandchildren grow old. It is obvious the family bonds are still intact and old people are revered elders.
Sure, the diet and exercise will help, but without those invisible social structures its like trying to fix a car with good parts but no knowledge of car repair.
bullshit
Sorry but what you said it’s not exactly, in fact the main reason of longevity is based on genetic. Secondly even the non-modernity as you mentioned actually is not correct because close family and friendship ties, plenty of sunshine which don’t concern non- modernity (in general the Italian life-style demonstrated by science) are some of the reasons of Italian’s longevity.
@Adam A. That is the secret! Eat what grows organically in the soil. Sunshine, moderate exercise, family relationships etc.
But modern life is killing every single thing created by God and create their own GMO's including creating GMO human
Or multi culturism and gang violence.
My Opinion is, that they walk a lot, eat very little processed food, have less stress and a higher balance in life. All together it results in more appreciation of life itself, which leads to a stronger will to continue with it in old age.
This is the best life🌈🙏💃🫂🌊🌌
What an esoteric nonsense xd
They are healthy because they eat very high carb low fat, and because they walk a lot.
they were married for 75 years. nowadays it's they were married for 3 years a divorced or separated. single parents everywhere.
They live a stress free life, they are happy, thats the secret. They live as a family together, grandmother sees and play with her great granddaughter.

Stop with this bs. They have breakfast too.
Sounds like intermittent fasting to me. Dr Berg
William Wallace they don’t have breakfast just a coffee with nuts honey not like fat Americans grew up Greece
Actually she said they have lunch at 12 am and dinner at 17 pm. Of course they also have breakfast earlier in the morning, around 6-7 am I suppose. I’m also from Italy, from the region of Piedmont, which is different in many aspects from Sardinia, but even my grandparents use to eat more or less at the same time
Sadly, this only works for 10-15% of all humans today who have a certain mutation in their FOXO3 gene. Most humans lost that mutation.

Yes great point. The blue zone research talks at length about lifestyle factors.
Diet when you live in north America our diet is garbage......20 to 50 percent diet and in general its genes
After a certain age like around 30, we need to eat more vegetables and fruits and less meat, also we need to use olive oil in cooking and eat less oily food this, in turn, can keep us healthy and fit.
Actually it's the opposite. As we age, we need to eat more animal proteins to prevent sarcopenia.

This should have 1million likes and views...and ppl should be asking how they do it to be old without..being handicap

Then we hear “I drink milk, I eat eggs and drink wine and Pepsi, which is important.”
The truth is even these people don’t know.
I am convinced that it has to do with the energy of the zone. Nothing geo-political here but rather “geo-health and longevity.” As they say “move here and you will live longer”. True.

also blue zones tend to live near the ocean... consume more alcohol, less grains/dairy.........meat,poultry isnt the problem like areas with high dairy intake like USA has high grain/dairy intake and suffer highest rates of osteoporosis.......now California has highest production of organic food in the US and 10th heathiest state.....really fattening starchy grains like white rice, wheat, barley and rye..gluten sensitivity and celiacs is a problem as well..Not to mention Canada and US has mostly processed nutrient deficient food.....GMos, pesticides etc. like at Iceland rest of Scandinavia, spain, Australia consume some of the highest intake of meats and their the healthiest countries to live.....Spain eats alot of eat......but not much for grains, but is ranked the healthiest place.....even outranks japan for health and lifespan.....japan has virtually the lowest dairy intake and look at them......eating organic and avoiding processed, gmos, etc and dairy and grains arnt good either...Russian born man was 122 and he could pass for 85.......He ate dairy from goat and sheep's, local pasture meats and fresh greens straight from the farm or backyard....also do research on insect nutrition, insects retain dozens of times more nutrients then any animal sorce....like organically farmed cricets retain 12 x more then beef and salmon, 20 x more the eggs and chicken and 30 to 50 x more then pork or milk....
A MAN thought to be Russia's oldest person has died at the age of 122, authorities in the North Caucasus region of Dagestan said.
Magomed Labazanov, a retired labourer who lived in Serebryakovka village close to the city of Kizlyar, died early Friday, the local government said on its website.
Labazanov was reportedly born in Dagestan and worked in a sawmill and later on a farm. He never learned to read and write.
The date of his birth has not been authenticated as he did not have an original birth certificate.
According to the Guinness World Records, the oldest person in the world is Besse Cooper of the United States, who turned 116 last month.
The mountainous North Caucasus is famed for its long-lived elders, although the turmoil of the Soviet era means that many do not have documents proving their age.
Labazanov was one of the thousands of people in North Caucasus republics who were uprooted during World War II on Stalin's orders and deported to Central Asia, returning only in the 1950s.
Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda said he attributed his long life to a simple diet of corn bread, whey, fruits and vegetables. Hi did not drink alcohol or smoke, it said.
Labazanov celebrated his 122nd birthday on May 1, according to local media..................................................................................................now other then corn bread, he didnt eat much grain, other articles he says he ate occasional sheep's milk, local meats, poultry, fresh vegetables and fresh spring water...remember though europe has highest life expectancy and highest production and access to organic foods
. im getting more interested in insect nutrition insects are the most nutrient dense foods even more then seafoods or kelp, seavegtables....crickets can have u to 32 percent protein, 3 to 4 times the daily intake of most major vitamins and 2 to 3 x the intake some minerals, as well as providing 12 x the amount of B vitamins of beef or 20 that of eggs and chicken etc.. earthworms are 82 percent protein, provide omega 3 and some essential nutrients also frying them in sunflower oil, they can taste similar bacon
north american meat is gmo, antibiotics, growth horomes added, factory farmed and mostly feed grains with no grass or pastures to graze on
They aren't stressed like the younger generation in Italy because they have a pension and have owned their houses for several generations.
Coming from the UK, I think it's the weather, lol.
4:06 "...I don't understand..." or before the old lady said : "IT'S 12:00!!" ....we can never be formal...I'm laughing so hard
Benedetta Vitali she mean moon.
For anyone interested - "The Microcirculatory Society, Inc was founded in 1954 to encourage the exchange and dissemination of information about the microcirculation. The society holds annual meetings and has a monthly journal titled Microcirculation".
Very interesting, I share a gene that predisposes one to living beyond a hundred it is only found in a very small Italian mountain population & another, the same gene, in a small number of Chinese. I do have some genealogy from Italy, to be precise Tuscany. I can’t remember the name of the mountain area in Italy. But life style is also extremely important. Being active & having continued challenges & ambitions definitely contributes to a longer & more meaningful & fulfilling life.
Sardina italy, nicoya costa rica, peru, okinawa japan, loma linda California and ikura greece
one of the keys, they eat dinner before 5. don't eat after sunset
in the northern hemisphere sun goes down at 3.30 pm during winter. Are you suggesting not to eat after 3.30 pm?
People in blue zones aren't even trying, imagine if they were. #pushit #addscience
Erik Ruiz, I didn't see/hear anthing about young people being irritated by their older relatives here. One thing that isn't measureable by blood tests but which is an invaluable contribution to & desperately needed by every society--& only comes w/the passing of years--is WISDOM.
Fénix Creciente TRUE
Yeah imagine if they pushed these sciences they have that make them 100-110.
They’d be pushing 125 ish
lol! a good one!
They eat plenty of meat here but the key is they don’t preserve it with sodium nitrate which is carcinogenic, just good regular salt
The key is the stress level.
Don't be fooled, they eat plenty of animal foods too (along the lines of fish, meat, butter, lard, milk etc..) as is the case with all the other blue zones.
No they don't? By all indications it's under 10%. Average of 5 times a month.
@@MasculineIdeal They do ....all those things are 100% being consumed in Italy and greece.
@@jamiemohan2049 Not in the Bluezones. Theyve been studied extensively
Like visit old grandpa 👍🌹🌹🤓
Obvious secret: natural food from the land, low stress life with close friends and family.
No industry
No competition for superifical short-term gains
Its the 🌊 and lifestyle, and eating only fresh produce
Stress free life with little pollution, more than 12hours between meals, and most live near the sea. Does the sea and the salt in the air and water have an effect? I ask them because many mariners who spent a lifetime at sea also live reasonably long and healthy
Walking active lifestyle and an urban arrangement and climate conducive to that lifestyle
Acciaroli is not a Blue Zone. The Italian blue zone is located in Sardinia.
Good video
no glasses, no cataracts, no walking stick
I bet you these people don’t have any where close to the kind of stress we some people in the west have to deal with in a day to day basis.
Sardinia is in the west 😂
Your amazing

...it would be interesting to find out how people from this area ,who have moved away and followed a different lifestyle and diet, have fared so as to separate the effect lifestyle and genetic factors have on longevity......
Ho we know the answer , Japan has the longest life expectancy of any country , but Japanese people who live in America don't do better than white or Latino. Also in Okinawa which is one of the blue zone, the young people start to eat like American and guess what ? Okinawa has the longest life expectancy in the world but the highest rate of obesity and diabetes in Japan. So you get the answer, longevity is a set of factor, nutrition, moderate excercise low stress, community values, purpose in life, and a grain of genetic. But the
dou40006 You didn't make the effort to understand the question. You just stated the obvious, if you eat bad, you get sick. But the OP was asking something different. What would happen if any of us moved to a Blue Zone? Will we be getting the same longevity benefits? How much of the longevity is due to nutrition/environmental factors and how much due to genetics?
warren rae I am a Vassallo. My grandparents were from the town over from these people on the Cilento Coast.
These people are my blood ❤️
Sincerely, Maria Vassallo
Dude,this is cool
A lot of people think the Italians drink a lot, but actually many Italians pour a small amount of wine in a lot of seltzer.
Quality of water
One thing these countries have in common, not much sugar, no vegetable oils and organic food.
They don't have fast food in these regions. They ate the healthy local food. Olive oil, beans, whole graines, eggs, fish, nuts, fruit, local dark greens, water (very little alcohol).
What were the proteins found in blood to longevity?
So when will the research be concluded?
Inspiration
Studio apartments and online work and training for everyone..
No need for homeless people or hunger.
Very interesting.
"Good microcirculation" - that's the key.
I don't mind dying at 70, I just want the energy and ability to think and enjoy what's around me like these people.
City point of view of town life...
5:27 What plants are those?
Probably rosehips
TheSirToady Kumquat

It has to be the fresh food and activity
How about taking into account their overall quality of life? Are they stressed? The other thing to consider is strong community which provides a safety net, so to speak, they are not alienated like a large number of elderly individuals are in other countries. Also check the chemistry of the soil, this may give a clue- micronutrients.
funny thing is , all of those blue zones are next to a coast, which obviously shows that fish is important factor
Coast means more sun and less snow
I live near the coast here in Norway.. with plenty of fish & hardly any sun 😢
Vitamin d deficiency is a constant challenge
one word: olive oil
They are two.
Man, I am from Cilento, the blue zone of the video, and we eat meat every single day. I don't know where you got this statistics you're citing.
Noam Vm i say, you get most of your calories from plants. Not that you don't eat meat
Kristoffer Lysgaard Ⓥ ok
In Asia we believe that if you have Buddha's ears, you live longer. That means you have that long ear with big lobes. I hope people will study that and look at the percentage. They also need to look at the blood type of these people!
I have big lobes so I hope it's true.
Peoples ears get larger and sag as they age. Ear lobe size changes with age and piercings. So of coarse all the elderly seem to have biggish ears. Chances are they didn't in their youth.
