Snatcher Intro (Sega CD)

- Опубліковано 12 тра 2007
- Snatcher is a cyberpunk-themed adventure game written and directed by Hideo Kojima. It was developed and published by Konami. Originally released in Japan for the NEC PC-8801 and MSX2 in 1988, it was remade for the PC-Engine in 1992 and ported to the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996. It was released for the Sega CD in North America and its counterpart, the Mega CD in Europe, in 1994, in what is the game's first and only official English version. Snatcher has gained a small cult following due to its mature storytelling, adult themes and (in later versions) voice acting. It was heavily influenced by various sci-fi and noir films, most notably Blade Runner (main character and city views), The Terminator (the snatchers) and Dune (random, freemen)

This is how you introduce a fucking game
One thing i love about Snatcher is like all Hideo Kojima games (apart from zone of the enders maybe) is he always tries to use the in game graphics capabilities for all the cutscenes, rather than prerendered video, and pushes those systems to their limit. Snatcher could very well be considered the pinnacle of Sega CD graphics.
Hallelujah !
Snatcher and Policenauts were Kojima's hidden gems. They were more then just visual novels. Some of the immersive interactive adventure games I've ever played.
Visual novels can be great too. The way some of those vn tells story just feels more immersive than most expensive 3D open world games.
Man that narrarator does an awesome job. Theres something chilling about it. Awesome feeling!
Ray Van Steen, a legend in Chicago radio. He voiced a few characters in the game too, such as the chief.
@@Mr357 I think he did Harry too
undoomed is better :) ua-cam.com/video/IZZwZ6VS-C0/v-deo.html
It reminds me kinda Fallout 1 and 2, but Snatcher was first.
@@Z-Mikes00 He did, he voiced Modnar as well (you can sort of hear inflections here between him and Modnar speech at the end of Snatcher). He passed away in 2015, RIP to a talented man.
This game is highly underrated. It deserves so much more love.
It's on the PC Engine Mini :)
Only in japanese, but it get finally a rerelease.
@@Kurenai-chan1993 well, yeah, that's the problem. The fact that it's in Jaoanese XD
@@DUSKvsDAWN i'm currently playing it , i wish it was in english too ! gotta use the few knowledges i have of japanese to play it with a japanese script to look at each sentences if i wanna translate them... at least combines homework and playing :D
I’m still sad they never rereleased it on the PS4 or Switch or something
Can you imagine an intro with this much production quality now days? So much SOUL?
Imagine Death Stranding!
OH MY GOD 3:25 THAT THEME GOES
I know right, that's an 80s theme song if I've ever heard one.
I thanks all those cyberpunks who fight for injustice
By the way, who are "those" ?
This story is dedicated
to all those cyberpunks
who fight against injustice
and corruption every day
of their lives.
Narrator uses a perfect inflection. The slight echo also helps to make it great.
>Any similarities to actual people, places and events are entirely coimcidental.
Not so the similarities to Blade Runner, Terminator, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and David Lynch's Dune.
A wise man once said: “When you steal from one source, it’s plagiarism. When you steal from several, it’s research.”
@@WestCoastGamer64 Haha, have to note that one :)
"david lynchs dune"
as if he contributed with something when everything hes good for is ruining dune.
@@user-pu1bs9eh7v Dune has great music, designs, and effects. The writing and some acting is the issue
@@user-pu1bs9eh7v I think OP brought it up because Random Hajile looks a lot like Feyd Rautha from the movie. Same outfit and everythng.
I LOVE the opening credits theme. It’s got this 80’s Miami Vice/Lethal Weapon/48 Hours sleaze to it, and it’s awesome. It’s perfect in every way.
I LOVE how cinematic the intro is when the jazzy rock song kicks in, that was incredibly RARE in those days. It still impresses me more than any modern HD games that try so hard to come off as movies. They really, really utilized the Sega CD hardware incredibly well for this port. If anyone ever needed a reason to own a Sega CD, THIS IS IT. I hope if Kojima ever revisits Snatcher for a new installment, he stays true to the gameplay structure. It's part of it's charm.
This is probably the only intro that really managed to hook me up on a game. Snatcher is my first graphic adventure game, and I'm already loving it.
I put in the same level the opening of Shin Megami Tensei I ,especially the Sega CD port
Never played this game, but this is one of the best intros I've ever seen in a game.
You gotta love the music in this game. Such great pieces! Ultimately gave the game a better feel and a WHOLE LOT OF STYLE!
A little bit Terminator. More Blade Runner, though.
All his games have some movie influence. Solid Snake is basically John Rambo multiplied by 007.
He's more like 95% Snake Pliskin from Escape from New York/LA with 5% 007
Yeah, I added Bond mainly for Snake Eater. Before that he was more Plisskin (can't believe I forgot him) and, I maintain, John Rambo.
Snatcher also has a bit of Invasion of the Body Snatchers thrown in with the Blade Runner and Terminator.
Cool user icon btw!
Mychael Darklighter Solid Snake wasnt even in MGS 3 that was Naked Snake aka Big Boss
tonyAJ420 yeah, but he's essentially the same character, that was the point.
What diferences they do have between them are there for thematic contrast.
i can see first blood rambo influence...not beyond that one though
This was my first Kojima game. I remember being blown away by the stylish intro, the music, and the voice acting - which was so much better than you would hear in most games (pc or console) or dubbed anime at the time. I remember thinking the Working Designs games had great voice acting at the time and realizing many years later that it mostly doesn't hold up. I think the acting here holds up... even if it isn't nearly as special as it was in 1994.
Agreed. Its epic. It’s stylish, well written and also a bit creepy as well. It was my favourite intro for years until Oblivion came along. Nothing beats that imo. What do you think?
Snatcher is way ahead of its time, I remember playing it for the first time in 2012 and found that it still held up well among the games of that generation. I wish there is a re release of some form for it, but knowing Konami now perhaps its best not to make one
I had this game along with Eternal Champions:Challenge From The Darkside on the Sega CD. To me it was one of the best games ever made.It felt like I was playing a movie and reminded me of Blade Runner.
Those really are 2 of the best games ever made. Great choice.
So I wonder if we can expect snatchers to appear in 50 years from now since we’ve had something like a Lucifer Alpha outbreak happen in 2020. Guess we’ll know in 2070
Imagne seeing this intro in 1994. I don't know any game to my knowledge before or around its release that has cinematics like this, let alone the Sega Genesis. I'd personally love to watch a several hour long movie the way this game makes cutscenes.
For a game made over 20 years ago, it's incredibly stylish and interesting.
30 years now...
14 years after this comment can confirm
The voice post-production is amazing!!!
i Love this game!!!
6:46 That legendary introduction, l wished more games had that kind of character introduction (with that pleasing voice). Of course the whole intro(everything that happens on the video) is legendary as well, the intro manages everything extremely well. l wonder how it would like in 3D.
That theme song is great !
+Peter Stellenberg The best
2 bloody years it took to complete this. Greatest game I’ve ever played. It was amazing. Loved so many hacks and Easter eggs in this. To get ultra violent mode. In training mode. Type into the computer as password SNATCHERS. it’ll make a clue sound and you’ll then unlock the explicit version
Do you have footage of the password being entered and working?
Hideo Kojima, ladies and gentlemen!
Shinji? What are you doing on UA-cam? GET IN THE DANG EVA!!
The "Citizen Kane" of videogames.
Vermilion77 more of Blade runner even through it have 2 games
@@Melvinshermen Not really. Snatcher is an amalgam out of Blade Runner, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Terminator. But I must admit, since Death Stranding and Metal Gear 5 my regard for Kojima dropped quite a bit. Shure, he as a sense for dramatic tension and character development but he more or less just copies existing themes and his stories are confusing and bloated. Snatcher is still a great game, though... sold my original Mega CD copy for 200 bucks. By the way, today I would call "Soma" the Citizen Kane of video games.
A man of culture I see.
@@vermilion7777 Death Stranding was amazing though
@@NeverSaySandwich1 lol..... no.... Death Stranding was a walking sim. But doesn't really matter. I lost all respect I had for Kojima since Metal Gear Solid 5.
Terminator + Blade Runner = Snatcher
Any similarities to actual snatchers, blasters and metal gear robots are pure coincidence.
the narrater just synced the game into my brain its so grimmy
Ripped my sega cd copy and have been replaying this on my psp. Still one of the greatest gaming experiences out there
This game is a labour of love from Kojima to film fans like himself. I can't help but smile at how damn good this game actually is.
One of the best Intro's ever!!
sidenote: See Policenauts Intro if you love this one, it's just as great or better!!
It’s criminal the Sega mini that came out with snatcher on it was Japanese only. Missed opportunity to bring this gem to a new younger English audience
Hmmm, i should or could do an Intro Remake of this?
please DO
Please please please
You'd better!
Or Intro Remake from Metal Gear 2, whichever you'd like :) We'd certainly like both :D
You really should do it
Hell *YES!* Especially since a Blade Runner sequel is coming out.
Snatcher needs a re-release on the Switch.
Written and directed by Hideo Kojima
I spent nearly 10 years trying to get an origional copy of snatcher. when i finally played it 2 years ago, i was highly impressed even by todays standards. awsome game!
the very first and best of Visual novel. kojima is a genius!
"This story is dedicated to all those CyberPunks who fight injustice and corruption every day of their lives."
#weareamongyou
When the city appeared and music started playing, I fell in love. Obviously inspired greatly by Blade Runner, Akira etc... so 80's, so awesome. !~
omg this is so awesome for 2010. imagine it in 1988
Reading the comments, its very sad to see that people who didn't grow up with this game and are now just discovering it simply look at it as a "Blade Runner ripoff". Yes, it does take a lot from that film as well as Terminator, and the Japanese versions straight up have characters from Sci-Fi films in Outer Heaven, but this game is so much more then that.
Ugh. I guess with most gamers appreciating this masterpiece, there always has to be a handful that just don't seem to get it.
Me and you brother.
This is a top 20 game all time brah.
Snatcher Appreciation Day!
this was just one of many games that i've seen in those old EGM magazines that i've always wanted to play but never got the chance.
Note to Sega: IN SERIOUS NEED OF RE-RELEASE
One of the best intro ever made (and the narrator voice and intro song are amazing).
There are no words to describe how simply awesome this game is.
I love this game.
thats what i love about some of theses treasures back then, great dramatic and still funky music, impressive pictures, more like pieces of art and also great dark and crazy plot, all in all really has everything a cyberpunk adventure needs and still is sucha unique game.
To me this is the greatest intro to any Sega CD game out there. Like my god, Snatcher has such a good opening in every way. The story, in-game graphics, World building/lore and overall soundtrack. Its perfection.
Intro is so badass. Reminds me of Dawn Patrol by Megadeth and something else I can't quite put my finger on.
Awesome intro to an awesome game:)
This game gave me nightmares for years when I was a child. Went back and played it.....engaging game, even after all these years. :D
I first saw Akira in '93, and the next year I bought this game and thought wow.....postapocalyptic cyberpunk 'anything' is cool. Bubblegum Crisis, Blade Runner...it's almost all relative.
best intro in videos games....ever
I freaking love this little game. It's what emulators were made for. I think this kind of game could work great as a low rent DS game. The vision could be on one screen and the dialogue options on the other. MGS4 Makes it clear Kojima still loves the game.
It has a city pop sound to it. Which correlates with the year of release.
Such Smooth Jazz Rock. AWESOME. I feel like I'm back on the gritty streets of the 80s...
This looks fantastic. I absolutely love cinematic adventures like this, and I just finished playing through Burn:Cycle on the Cd-i. Damn was that game good. Looks like this will be next on my "To-Play" list.
oh man, i love Blade Run... I mean, Snatcher
Now THIS is how you introduce a fucking game world!
Don’t see fantastic intro’s like this anymore
Thanks for uploading this
thumbs up if you're going to play this game on Christmas
Yearly tradition for me man.
Very clever game.. What an imagination it requires to make a game like this back in the 90s
wow the music is awesome. and perhaps the best sound quality I ever heard on youtube.
Ha, I had this for my Sega CD. Loved it and I was very disappointed Policenauts never came to the US.
I keep getting a craving to play through this again! what a game!
just finished it and loved every second of this masterpiece
Thank you! This was my favorite game!!!!!!
Best gme theme ever created:old school matters
Best game intro and game music ever. But then again, this is Hideo Kojima were talking about here. Everything he does is bloody awesome.
one of my favorite games of all time this was like a telltale game should definitely make a new one
Today Snatcher completes 25 years... Best game I ever played :)
you are correct. the first person who shares my thoughts on Kojima
Blows my mind that this videos been up 15 years
That the games been out like 35 years
Music Is incredible in this game
I love this intro!
Tears of joy!
this can definatly become an anime!
Best game on the SegaCD by far!
Very impressive! Truly ahead of it's time.
I... Was blown away when i played this first time blind. 16 bit cd add-on doing all this and so well just blew me away
This game brings back so many memories as a kid .. gotta admit it was a dope game !!
i got this game when it first came out for sega CD.. I was 14 =) good game...great.
Man, just listening to that saxophone go wild is so good!
I see. The influences this game has from various anime films and Hollywood blockbusters is unmistakable.
Christ i just reached 6.36 ! He actually has Deckard's car! As a cinephile it is my duty to play this!
i love the narrator. it reminds me of the early 90s 'japanimation' days where such a stark voice would be heard in something insanely nihilistic, disturbing and grossly ultraviolent like the guyver or something.
One of the best games ever made.
Thank you for reuploading this. I originally uploaded this but it was removed along with all of the other 199 of my videos when my original account was deleted. All because I used 3 seconds of Simpsons footage.
I had this when it came out on sega cd. It's one of my all time favorite games.

The GamingBrit trolling to every pro current gaming generation topic!
Love this guy!
I recently finished this game and I can say that Kojima's reputation as a genius in the videogame industry is really well deserved.
The story, it's thrilling plot and the way how it's showed, the simple but very interactive and adictive gameplay, the music, all is a masterpiece very ahead of its time. This is one of the first games that succesfully introduced many cinematographic elements in a videogame, creating one of the best experiences of its type.
I've always wanted to play this game for a long long time but never had the CD player for the Sega CD wow those are the days. Kojima is a mad genius.
When it gets to the jazz song i turn it all the way up at 12 at night to wake the neighbors up to tell them how good this game is. : - )
I'm so bummed I never knew about this game until now. It's just like Blade Runner, I'm in!
That's because they're all based off of BladeRunner. So many great 80's and early 90's anime/manga/videogames got their look from it. A classic.
awesome! love the music
this is the best game i ever played sheer excellence
