  • Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr. Win the 1996 Cowboy Spirit Awards at The Festival of the West. A great big thank you to Mary Brown for trusting us with her video archives of The National Festival of the West. This video was transferred from a VHS. Ben Johnson and Dobe Carey (Harry Carey Jr.) are two of the are no strangers to western TV show and Movie fans. Both having appeared in countless western films. Carey's father started appearing in films in 1909. Ben and Dobe were in John Ford's western movie Rio Grande together with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Harry Carey Jr. started appearing in films in 1921 as a baby in one of his Dad's silent western movies titled Desperate Trails, also directed by John Ford. Ben Johnson in 1953 took a vacation from his acting career and competed in rodeo to becomes Team Roping World Champion. This however left him just about flat broke so he went back to making movies. In 1971 Ben won the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his part in the movie The Last Picture Show. Ben's part would have required him to say a lot of nasty language so he agreed to do the part only if he was allowed to re-write the script which he did and he said he didn't say one nasty word and he won many awards for his part. In this rare video footage Ben and Dobe are presented their awards by Mary Brown and helping to present is Senator Barry Goldwater. Thanks for watching. Please comment, like and share.

Ben Johnson, what an Authentic Good Soul, he reminds me that we each are individuals and when Soul Energies infuse Human DNA there's such unique and varied results, and some just shine in their Authentic Selves.
    I adore Ben Johnson's works.
Harry Carey, Jr, as well. They sure entertained generations of us.
Barry Goldwater, well I'm sure he was nice too, even though I'm if a different political perspective. I believe he was a GOP Republican, not at all the R of today.
Keep in mind, Country comes before Party, and then follow up according to your own feelings, not the identification if your family, state, region, or what anyone thinks, you are your own value, and that's as fact.
A Tennessee Moderate Democrat, that tilts Left. 😘
(Definitely not influenced by the area I reside in, but by my own feelings and resistance to judge others.)
