Rice cooked with salt/pepper and a few bay leaves is incredible in anything. Add a tablespoon of butter, a shake of parm cheese and some onion powder and it's a meal by itself.
We forget Sam is Native to Canada so that's why he frowned on rice and butter but its a long time staple, especially in between pay days thats all some parents had to feed their children.
as some one that worked as a cook for 4 years at a from scratch Italian restaurant that won best in the city several years in a row while I was there, I STILL love the occasional buttered noodles with a pinch of salt and a dash of tobasco. I can totally see how the rice with butter hits basically the exact same spot
Dear Sam, Max, Chance, Jilly, and all of the people watching. I have made numerous recipes of yours, and every single one turns out a 10 out of 10! I know people give you hate for using already shredded cheese, or frozen fries, or whatever. I say forget them. As long as the entire meal isn't pre-packaged and pre-made stuff, who cares. Don't eat the same thing all of the time, sound familiar? I often get lazy and use garlic paste in the tube, or diced in the jar. I use shortcuts when I feel lazy or don't have the right ingredients. Guess what? My food turns out great, delicious, and healthier than going to the drive-thru. I love you guys and what you do. Please try to ignore the idiots, and keep up the excellent work!
I made it and followed Sam's exact recipe just to see. I am a huge rice fan so I am critical. For such a simple and fast dish to put together, all I can say is OMG! I changed our dinner plans and am going to have this rice with pan fried herbed chicken. This rice is amazing! I can't believe it took you so long to discover butter/rice. Keep up the amazing and entertaining work!!!
My in-laws make Filipino garlic rice and it is my favorite breakfast dish when I visit them. They basically fry leftover rice in garlic and oil in a pan and serve it with a fried egg on top and I add Sriracha hot sauce and green onion.
I promise I will make this! Just peeled the shrimp for our dinner of Scampi and can’t wait to add this to the menu. Thanks Sam, I hope all of you have a terrific weekend!
This is an excellent base for so many other rice dishes, just add some veggies, spices and protein of choice. Try this recipe and serve it with fried egg on top. I love runny yolk mixed with the rice, but if that's not your thing, fry those eggs to your taste.
Sam I am puerto rican& Cuban and we make our rice the same way, water, salt & oil. I find this wat so delicious with my Hispanic dishes, Thank you for sharing..😁
This might sound strange, but I guarantee you will love it: before you plate the rice, throw in a small splash of soy sauce into the mix. It's a Japan thing, but soy sauce (shoyu) and butter are a staple there! (Omit the salt if you do this)
This worked perfectly with Korean rice, which is a short-grain rice, and I always had trouble making it on a stove. I used 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of stock.
Pretty much the only time I use water in rice is when I make sushi. Any other dish I go with stock, beef/veggie/chicken and rest assured there's lots of butter. Toasting the rice dry in a hot skillet adds amazing flavor and then add the butter and onion.
Learned how to make this when I lived in Brazil. In Brazil we don't add the gralic chips, parsley and extra butter at the end. This is great with tagine lamb, feijoada (black beans and rice), or anything really.
I also have two grown boys and I love how you've included them in on this process! Kudos my man! Great channel, great recipes, great kitchen, great tools and fantastic editing! Who edits this stuff?? great job. I'm totally jealous of all of this. Thanks
after cooking put some paper towel on top of the pot and close it. 10 minutes later mix it slightly and put the cover back on. 15 minutes later its ready. that process evoporate the last bits of water outside of the rice and finally you will have water inside butter outside excellent rice.
If serving as a side to fish add lemon juice when you are cooking the rice. ---- garlic / lemon butter rice. ALSO the garlic lemon butter rice is really good with a little drizzle of Chinese hot oil.
So I click “more” and I actually get the recipe? What? Be still my overcooked heart. You mean instead of following the “my recipes” link and not being able to get that show’s recipe, sometimes for weeks, I can access it while still inspired from the episode? This is an amazing upgrade. I had given up trying to copy/paste/edit transcript to get a recipe. Thank you, whichever one of you did this.
Made a riff on this tonight. I didn’t have fresh garlic, so I used toasted pine nuts for the crunch. I would have loved the fried garlic, and I’ll plan better next time, but it was already the best rice I’ve ever made. Thanks, Sam.
This is similar to how I make fried rice for breakfast, after the rice is cooked, I skillet fry it a little bit and add soy sauce. Serve it with a fried egg and it's amazing for breakfast.
Thx for the recipe. I have strangly enough made this before, but I add 5 stands of Safran, grinded in a Moser and then 1/4 cup of chicken broth in the moser, mix add to broth then cook the rice....15/10 method. Adds just that little something. Peace
Hey Sam...Boys...Wanted to tell you something. Got married yesterday. Arrived home and there was a box that said "best day ever" on it, and it couldn't be more right. Had my thirst trap towels, and my first packet of BFF. Made eggs this morning for my new wife, used BFF on them, and she said "These are f*cking amazing!" Thanks guys, for all you do. Cheers.
I only ate rice with butter and soy sauce as a kid. Still love it to this day. I've made this rice, didn't know it was a thing LOL. Thank you for introducing it to others!
Growing up in our butter rice was a staple, it was a side dish, and a meal when it was a few days to our stepdad’s payday. To stretch it She would add butter, eggs, sauté some green or yellow onion, some Lawry’s garlic salt. And sometimes that Was Dinner. It was 10 of us in our house. I still make this to this day.
The family members who complain about garlic can keep their forks to themselves when I make this dish. Go fork your blasé whatever it is you’re eating. 😂
I can see using this to stuff green peppers. I have been playing around with using different flavors of Rice a Roni to stuff and make stuffed green peppers in tomato sauce.
Great recipe! I have made butter rice with fried garlic for years. You can also fry your garlic in the microwave, its fast. I also make fried onions this way - great on salads and adding to clear broth or any soup for that matter.
So as kids about a million years ago my sister and I both liked white rice (as if anything else was available in the 60's where we lived) with butter. I liked salt and pepper on it my sister went for sugar. She also enjoyed spaghetti with just butter and salt.
I am a long-time watcher, first-time recipe trier and thank you for having such a wonderful website! It is everything I want and need and nothing else! I commend you and your team for such a professional site. Thank you! Can't wait to try this dish!
Cool. The first part is very similar to my rice pilaf based recipe that I've made for ages. I usually add mushrooms and some meat to mine and bake it rather than finishing on the stove. My son could finish the whole casserole himself. I will definitely try the crispy garlic technique, though.
Just made this and indeed it is very good! Didn't have jasmine rice, so I used basmati and I doubt it mattered. Delicious! Also I sauteed some diced carrots and added them at the end along with some frozen peas. Yum.
Jamaican rice its 1 part water to 1 part coconut milk. Kidney beans or pigeon peas. With Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper or habanero as a substitute. Yes they are similar but the bright yellow Jamaican variant is more flavorful. With “green onion” and thyme.
We made this. It was absolutely amazing. Love your show. We r gonna make more of your recipe s. We made it with Italian chicken thighs. This rice elevated them to near perfection.
I'd say just go with the liquid to rice ratio that works for you. This is 2 parts rice to 3 parts broth, if you have a loose fitting lid it's likely double the broth to rice, if you use a rice cooker or instapot, it's 1 to 1.
Sam, this takes it up a notch. I've made leftover rice with butter and spice forever. You can do basil, green onion, chives, or whatever you may like. The garlic chips should be a winner in my book. Another leftover rice dish for us used to be leftover rice, cinnamon and sugar, and milk. A great desert for the kids. Well Done... 🙂
This is step one of making my mom’s Spanish rice recipe. Add olive oil with the butter. Garlic, onions, saute add rice, can of tomatoes, water or broth, saffron, cumin. At the end, add pimientos and chopped sauteed red bell peppers.
This stuff is like cooking crack! I love this with everything! I add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and man does those stuff get devoured. Thinking of adding chopped fresh mushrooms as well, but definitely my favorite dish as of late! So easy too! Thankyou
Love your books and have been watching you since your very first show on local san diego . How about a recipe that includes brown rice. Been looking for anything that can spice up my horrible new diet. Thank you
Butter and rice goes together like PB+Jelly man! Cooked rice, add butter, and nothing more needed! Not to say this isn't good.... but, with all of that chicken broth, it's more like yellow rice or chicken flavored rice. Fried garlic ontop is where my mouth started watering. Hell yeah I'm making this tonight.
Sam i just want to say thank you. Your " Munchies " series is what hooked me in but all of your recipes have kept me watching. Much love for the quick and easy dishes all throughout your videos.
Made this for dinner twice last week. I did not have any chicken stock the second time so I used Better Than Bouillion Garlic Base. OMG! Game changer. Had it for a side with fried spam. Don't knock it until you try it.
I do the simplified version of this with butter, onion and garlic thrown in with chicken stock at the beginning. It's a staple but these chips would take it over the top!
I would imagine, that IF you fried the garlic in the avocado oil that has sponsored this channel in the past, that IF you have any of this rice left over, you could make fried rice, using the garlic infused avocado oil to further enhance the flavor bombs bursting with each delicious bite.
Nice. I have added butter to rice in the past and it's great. I like the extra garlic (more garlic is always good!!). You could also make golden Jasmine rice version. At the start with the butter you could add some paprika (I would use smoked) and some turmeric (and I'd chuck in a couple of bay leaves). The rest as you do it.
So glad to see the Krispy garlic back ever since the crispy garlic padpardelle noodles! I fell in love with it. I've been dying to see more recipes with the crispy gold. After many trials and tasty errors I discovered a few things. Jar minced and just chopped all rendered different flavors in the sauce and crispy garlic. Garlic presses and food processor both release too much garlic liquid for frying and I think you lose some garlic gold in that liquid. I highly recommend taking the time to just use all fresh garlic and chop it up. It's very worth it. I use any least one whole small bulb. I use even more if I'm serving more than one person. And cojija cheese is a excellent cheaper parm rom substitute. Packs a bigger tang but amazing either way
"Garlic presses and food processor both release too much garlic liquid for frying and I think you lose some garlic gold in that liquid" I like this information. None of it had ever occurred to me, but it makes a lot of sense. Thank you! 👏
Sam I am gonna make this. This will level up a rice dish formsure, most of my rice starts the same way, the fried garlic is a great addition. I pretty much double the garlic suggestions anyway.. this one is 3x delicious
Here we in almost Fall...at least for me because I don't live in Cali. I enjoy the chilly weather where I'm at. I would love your rendition of Weinerschnitzel and jager soße, and possibly spatzle in the future🍁🫶

🤚 Oh I’m making this, promise. lol In the end of the 80’s when I was little my mom made me white rice with butter as a side dish with dinner. I had forgotten about it for years and now remembered Again. I want this.
Very similar to the rice I already make for the kids and I. However, the crispy garlic pieces are brilliant, I can't wait to try that part out. And I agree, this rice goes great with nearly everything!
Love the different sizes of baking sheets/pans you have. Didn't know they made them like that until watching here. I have so many now, it's hard to find a place to store them. But I would probably buy more if they had a Sam the Cooking Guy logo stamped in them!
Lmao I used to just eat rice with butter and pasta with butter. Now I HAVE to add something else or else it feels so bland. I tried just having pasta with butter a couple months ago to se if the nostalgia would make it taste good and I instantly had to cook up some veg to go with it lmao. That being said, garlic butter rice is so freaking good and it goes with almost everything.
You're right sam! I made this and my wife came back with the kids! I wasn't even married in the first place, this is awesome!
😂, now that’s funny
I love that! Wish I had thought of it first!!
😂😂
Nice
😂😂😂😂
Rice cooked with salt/pepper and a few bay leaves is incredible in anything. Add a tablespoon of butter, a shake of parm cheese and some onion powder and it's a meal by itself.
We grew up in the 70’s eating minute rice with butter salt and pepper. I still love it to this day! Buttered rice is the bomb!
I think I ate it every day. Yumm
We had this at our house 3 times a week with sauté onions and garlic. Then when finished top it off with locataily cheese.
I used to do butter and sugar. Not much nowadays cuz I mistakenly told my dad I could eat rice for a week and he made me do it😂
Rest of the world and some of us here in the USA just called it rice.
We forget Sam is Native to Canada so that's why he frowned on rice and butter but its a long time staple, especially in between pay days thats all some parents had to feed their children.

Yum!

You should take it another step! And Make fried rice with it when it’s day old rice. Fry the rice in the garlic oil you just made!!!
Yeah then add some garlic shrimp on top. 💥
I only ate rice with butter and soy sauce as a kid. Still love it to this day. I've made this rice, didn't know it was a thing LOL. Thank you for introducing it to others!

Can't live with someone who has a limited palette.
Try butter and milk in white or brown rice. Plenty of salt and black pepper. The best breakfast besides sausage gravy in the south.
I can see using this to stuff green peppers. I have been playing around with using different flavors of Rice a Roni to stuff and make stuffed green peppers in tomato sauce.
Made this tonight and the wife and daughter loved it. The wife is the pickiest eater in the world but this blew her away.
I've been making this dish for a few years and gawwwd it's so good! It's extra delicious with a scallion and diced tomato garnish! 🍅
I've been making garlic butter rice for 50 + years but never thought of the crispy garlic bits, that's money!
When the rice is done stir in a 1/2 cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese, takes it to another level.
I generally cook plain white rice with butter... i love garlic... this will be right up my alley
Great recipe! I have made butter rice with fried garlic for years. You can also fry your garlic in the microwave, its fast. I also make fried onions this way - great on salads and adding to clear broth or any soup for that matter.
We ate butter and rice as children. As a matter of fact periodically I still consumed it, but I add a bit of cheese. Delish!

Rice with butter was a big thing in my household growing up with both of my southern parents who were both great cooks in Denver, CO!
Cool. The first part is very similar to my rice pilaf based recipe that I've made for ages. I usually add mushrooms and some meat to mine and bake it rather than finishing on the stove. My son could finish the whole casserole himself. I will definitely try the crispy garlic technique, though.
Used this in place of plain white rice with the Red Beans and Rice recipe of yours. Whoa man!! Delish!!
i make this everyday for a while, i use msg too when i salt the rice, it tastes incredible
Just made this and indeed it is very good! Didn't have jasmine rice, so I used basmati and I doubt it mattered. Delicious! Also I sauteed some diced carrots and added them at the end along with some frozen peas. Yum.

You can also mix rice with ketchup or tomato paste. It tastes great too!

My favorite breakfast when I was in junior and high school was minute rice and crumbled bacon. I made it every morning on school days.
My Grandfather put butter on rice! I just remembered! Your way is so much better. Thanks! Marty from NYC.
This is step one of making my mom’s Spanish rice recipe. Add olive oil with the butter. Garlic, onions, saute add rice, can of tomatoes, water or broth, saffron, cumin. At the end, add pimientos and chopped sauteed red bell peppers.

You have to try this garlic butter rice with grilled skirt steak and an egg cooked over easy. I highly recommend it
Made this for dinner twice last week. I did not have any chicken stock the second time so I used Better Than Bouillion Garlic Base. OMG! Game changer. Had it for a side with fried spam. Don't knock it until you try it.
As kids we loved rice with butter, sugar and cinnamon. Gotta try this garlic butter rice.
Love the way Canuks pronounce the word"out"
Rice with butter (and salt and pepper) is a Southern staple
I do the simplified version of this with butter, onion and garlic thrown in with chicken stock at the beginning. It's a staple but these chips would take it over the top!
I would imagine, that IF you fried the garlic in the avocado oil that has sponsored this channel in the past, that IF you have any of this rice left over, you could make fried rice, using the garlic infused avocado oil to further enhance the flavor bombs bursting with each delicious bite.
I sure hope he's not ruining this dish with a seed oil.
Awesome you should do a UA-cam channel
Might have to make this for breakfast tomorrow!
Packs a bigger tang but amazing either way
"Garlic presses and food processor both release too much garlic liquid for frying and I think you lose some garlic gold in that liquid"
I like this information.
I was going to cook fried rice tomorrow with just plain day old rice. Time to knock it up a bit and try it with this.
My mom made this and called it Infallible Rice. It's so good!
Here we in almost Fall...at least for me because I don't live in Cali. I enjoy the chilly weather where I'm at. I would love your rendition of Weinerschnitzel and jager soße, and possibly spatzle in the future🍁🫶
I grew up eating white rice with butter I used to crave it as a child for breakfast from my grandma. ❤❤
Squeeze a bit of lime onto that-it will blow you away. I basically lived on that, for months, in my early 20’s.
The rice with butter is a simple Japanese bar dish; love it!
Also try it using the same recipe except with Better than Bullion Beef broth instead of chicken and sauté some mushrooms and onions to mix in and serve with steak, meatloaf or hamburger steaks. So freaking good!
BTB is a cheat code. Love that stuff.
@@bksyles I have always hated those boxed broths they have absolutely no flavor - love all the Better than Bullion products. I'm in Florida where we got hit hard by the hurricane - we had to evacuate and when I got home I had to throw away about 9 different versions of the BTB. Hurt my heart and pocket book!!
@@NoleFan74 Hope you’re back on your feet. Yeah that boxed/cubed stuff is trash. I’ve only tried the vegetable and beef BTB. I have to try the others.
I make this all the time, but add 2 tbsp of fresh grated parmesan cheese at end…so good
We were a rice with parm family too. So surprised not to find more people who had this as a go to
I made this for the Beef Bourgignon I made and it was freaking amazing!!!!!! Thanks man!!!
Thanks!!! It is super good, my 13 month boy absolutely loves this as well 👍👍👍 can you make some baby food videos 😊
I made it today. My kids loved it.
You, sir, are a genius!
Love rice and butter....now I'm gonna love garlic, rice and butter. ❤❤❤❤❤
Since my original posts, we have had this rice dish with pan fried chicken and now grilled fish. A clear winning combo. Thanks again Sam and especially the camera crew!!!
☝🏾”Sam- I promise that I WILL MAKE this dish!”🥰
Thank you Sam for this simple delicious dish, you make eating and cooking so enjoyable🤗!
Very useful recipe especially here in south east asia where rice is a staple food
Hear me out: this garlic rice, with an over easy egg or poached egg, topped with chili crisp and green onion. Perfect breakfast
Once you start making rice with chicken broth or bone broth it changes everything. I can't wait to try this recipe and serve it with some fried chicken
Funny....garlic butter rice is my go to for all basic meals. So quick, easy & delicious
Grew up with a similar version. Mom added peas and mushrooms.
That's the proper way to do add butter to rice! I'm going to make that!
Growing up in the south rice and butter was a staple in my house.
🤚 Oh I’m making this, promise. lol
In the end of the 80’s when I was little my mom made me white rice with butter as a side dish with dinner. I had forgotten about it for years and now remembered Again. I want this.
This rice looks amazing!
I'll make it, and I'll drizzle a little of the garlic oil on it instead of adding more butter, because I'm weird like that. Cheers
Very similar to the rice I already make for the kids and I. However, the crispy garlic pieces are brilliant, I can't wait to try that part out. And I agree, this rice goes great with nearly everything!
Sam add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to the cooked butter- rice and taste the BIG diffference!!!!
Love the different sizes of baking sheets/pans you have. Didn't know they made them like that until watching here. I have so many now, it's hard to find a place to store them. But I would probably buy more if they had a Sam the Cooking Guy logo stamped in them!
Throw a bunch of butter to anything makes them so much better. Butter = better
Make pizza dough with that garlic oil and put the garlic pieces on the finished pizza
Try toasting the rice until it just becomes fragrant, then adding the broth
Grew up eating butter n rice. Underrated side dish.
