Ordinarily I am a proponent of paying for music and supporting the artist whenever possible. However, in this case, we are left in a pickle. The record is no longer being produced and there is no way to obtain it on the open market.

@@sethkimmel7312 unlike current politicians, he said many wise things and did even more impressive deeds. Created the national parks, the Panama Canal. He was wealthy yet he pushed for labor reform and broke up the trusts and big banks. He denounced greed and over industrialization , he was a hunter but urged for conservation and environmental protection. Yeah he is probably my favorite president

I think a lot of that was Ted Turner because I know in the behind the scenes of Gettysburg he talks about it some and has a cameo in the movie. I don't know if he still runs that company though and hasn't retired.

I watched the movie a couple days ago. WHY THE FUCK IS THE MOVIE NOT TALKED ABOUT MORE?! Sure the movie is very heavily romanticized, and really historically inaccurate, but damn is it a fun ride.
The acting is top notch, Tom Berenger blew me away with his portrayal of Roosevelt. He steals every scene he is in. The guy is like the Daniel Day Lewis of historical movies, every role I’ve seen him in is spot on. Why isn’t this guy given more roles? Gary Buesy is icing on the cake (I didn’t even know Joe Wheeler was even still alive during the Spanish American war) Admittedly I know little to nothing about this conflict, really only the bare basics, so maybe that’s why I can forgive some of the glaring inaccuracies presented in this movie.
(Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe I read somewhere that the Buffalo soldiers played a much bigger role at San Juan Hill than what was shown in the film. Didn’t they already take the Hill when the Rough Riders charged up it?)
I was surprised to find out that Elmer Bernstein did the score ( I thought he was dead by 1997, but I guess not) he always adds a great score to any movie. I guess you know a movie has done something right if I want to do research and learn more about the conflict.
I view the film as sort of a last American western, one last blaze of “cowboy” glory before we enter a century of modernization. (Yes I know that we were modernizing in the decades after the civil war, but I digress)
I loved the hell out of this movie, really shame people don’t talk about or have even heard of this film. Id give it a 9/10 (very surprising considering my friends view me as a tough as nails critic)

    • @shmuelgoldberg8105

I think Gettysburg is a great film, certainly the best civil war movie ever made, and it is hardly mentioned. And after being a fan of Gettysburg, I would put Rough Riders, even less mentioned in cinema history, right next to it. the music is fantastic. They will never make another movie like it again. I agree with you that Tom Berenger is great in every role. I wished he was in more movies and they made even more historical films. He is in the battle of the Bulge. If you haven't seen it check it out. A friend of mine wants to watch Rough Riders. He has a big projector, like a mini theater. Will be fun watching it (again).

This was a great movie. My favorite performance by Tom Berenger and one of my favorite performances by Sam Elliott in what is my favorite movie by John Milius.
A terrific movie done in the old fashioned Hollywood sort of way, but also done in the way of an old-fashioned Western. Something that John Ford might have done.
It gets a little schmaltzy here and there, sure, but it's a great movie. And this soundtrack is amazing.
