Unironically yes, the state has the power to decide who its in-group is and who the out-group is, and its only responsibility is to serve the in-group. @@jeremiahbarnes6313 Because it doesn't nessecerily have to be that.
To elaborate: there is US, and there is THEM. US and THEM can be distiguised by our culture, our ethnic group, our religion, our customs, our skin colour, etc.
There is no reified reason to pick one over the other, but there doesn't need to be one. It is my side, my group that I am born into or enter, and from which I pursue to serve its interests before the interests of outsiders.
It is postmodern reaction, that you don't need a good or justified reason to want to favour your side over the others.
Mind you, this is the background assumption of most of the world out side of the west. Ask a turkish/Armenian nationalist or an Islamist or any believer in Chinse culutral supremacy to play this soft western bullshit about tolerance and not favoring your own side and you'll see what they really think. Import too many of these people from the non-western world, and you become the non-western world.

@@DeGreekDollmaker I'm not a racist, sorry. I don't care about the skin color of someone else to decide federally wether or not some random brown person has a right to enter my country.
What about the Irish, Polish, German, Jewish, and Italian immigrants who came here, white af and were treated as "white n words" by racists who thought they were "dirty" and "less than" white Americans. We literally had "Irish need not apply" signs.
The "us" are people who care so much about tribalism and skin color they delude themselves in emotionally loaded language where they pathetically defend not allowing someone into their country because they're racist and solely because they're racist.
And also, I've had this talk with a crapton of racists (You're most likely white) and so far I've never heard an answer to this question. What's considered white? You're talking about race based tribalism instead of a national identity like what the romans did so you're obviously inexplicitly gesturing at white people, obviously. What's considered white?

I'm an immigrant. I immigrated from Wales to the US at the age of sixteen when my parents moved. My dad was programmers, granted, but my sibling (who was 11 at the time) didn't have any job skills, and my mum was a housewife who'd never been to college. We also came from one of the few regions of Wales where Welsh is still the primary language, so only my dad could really be considered "good" at speaking English.
Weird how even the most anti-immigration folks don't have an issue with us. It's almost like there's something... different about us and the people immigrating from Mexico.

What Saager is missing when he talks about his parents and their masters degrees and professional everything is the US doesn't care about foreign degrees and professional credentials from a lot of countries. Even if you are a professional engineer in Canada you have to take the American professional engineer exam to be licensed here. It takes a lot to be a professional here if you've been educated somewhere else. Especially in countries where people have brown skin and names like Saager. The fact that he doesn't see the money that his parents had to pay is itself an example of how the American immigration system is racist is stunning.

@angelantayhua3096 And why would Americans feel the need to protect themselves from scary degrees by making foreigners prove their degree is actually earned? It doesn't have to be against brown people to be racist. The fact that we fear other countries degrees instead of forming actual bi-lateral agreements with institutions and governments IS a form of racism. We'd rather force you to redo in OUR schooling than to ever allow you to learn from "the other" who we think of as too dumb, poor, and underdeveloped to teach their own people. Even if you pass the test, it's not like you suddenly have an American degree... you can just practice in the US. How often do you think employers are turning down people because they learned from outside the country?

That's why, where I live, all the Amish people say they speak Pennsylvania Dutch. Even though what they are speaking is German... Then a lot of German immigrants came in, in that created a lot of xenophobia towards them. So they called themselves Dutch. That's why they called themselves Dutch, because of the anti-German sentiment my dude.... You're literally proving my point. They weren't known as Dutch. They were calling themselves Dutch to reduce the xenophobic attitude toward them. IMO because both sides have become too fearful of engaging in a rational discussion about immigration. Those on the right are unwilling to say "some immigration good" because it would have to go against the sort of nationalistic sentiments often found on the right in most countries, and those on the left, are unwilling to say "immigration good BUT within limits" because they dont want to get dragged into conversations that will essentially separate immigrants into the "worthy vs unworthy". Hence, we get both extremes that do nothing but infuriate the other side, and the whole topic becomes irreconcilable, with no hope of finding a sensible position, and instead causing dramatic swings of policy as power changes hands.

It was during the primary where both of them would bash Biden and then Krystal would say 'and that's why I'm supporting Bernie' and Saagar would nervously laugh and go back to bashing other dems (but never Bernie). It came as a shock to many people when Saagar made it clear that he's a republican but after Bernie lost, the show became more and more right wing

@zachariahwade8482 You're just wrong on this. By the time BP came around the audience was right wing but in the very beginning of rising, Saagar never had the chance to insert any right wing beliefs because they mainly covered the primaries.
The format would be that they'd both spend time attacking the dems for being useless and vapid but Krystal would then promote Bernie and Saagar was too smart to challenge her on that. The shift happened when Bernie lost and the focus really was just purely anti-Biden. That's when the right wingers started to come in
