They (the conservative ones) figured out that with lifetime appointments, there's no check on their power. And as for what they are empowered to do, that's dictated by the Constitution, and we learned this summer that they are willing to blatantly contradict the text of the Constitution when it suits them. They figured out that it doesn't matter if every legal authority in the country disagrees, because legally NO ONE CAN OVERRIDE THEM. If this November they rule that they have the power to just pick the President, that is completely consistent with the presidential immunity ruling. It's just a question of what they have the audacity to try.

And as for what they are empowered to do, that's dictated by the Constitution, and we learned this summer that they are willing to blatantly contradict the text of the Constitution when it suits them. They figured out that it doesn't matter if every legal authority in the country disagrees, because legally NO ONE CAN OVERRIDE THEM. If this November they rule that they have the power to just pick the President, that is completely consistent with the presidential immunity ruling. It's just a question of what they have the audacity to try.

I love that Rachel doesn't do headlines. She starts with the backstory and fleshes out the history until you understand where the headline came from. Then, you find yourself saying, "Oh, now I see what happened and how we got here!" No wonder Republicancers hate her so much. (Edit: As a researcher myself, I can tell you this is damned difficult work!)

I remember watching Pence being escorted downstairs to get out of harm's way - but then he stopped and turned around, and went back to certify the election. Pence chose country over MAGA. 👏👏👏
