@@jeremyrangel8138Well, for one, Shapiro is making a completely illogical argument here. I don’t know if you are familiar with valid argumentation or not, but he is saying:
1: In the past, people used to work until they died, basically.
2: Today, people live much longer.
(Assumption: We should reproduce the past)
Conclusion: People should work until they die today, much longer than in the past, since they live longer.
The first two premises are true. They are descriptive statements. But Shapiro sneaks in an unjustified assumption, and his conclusion doesn’t follow at all from his two premises. The assumption is dogmatic, irrational. There is no reason to reproduce the past, unless the past was good. Clearly working until you drop dead is not what most people call good. Shapiro is relying on his own feelings, here.
I think he knows this, which is why he brings up a second argument, which is that work brings purpose to life, which is why people die soon after they stop working (according to him, this is dumb, because the reason people might die soon after retirement might be because they retired BECAUSE they got sicker and weaker. Even if he is right, his reasoning is invalid because he conflates correlation and causation). Since people want to live long, purposeful lives, they should work until they drop dead and not retire, according to him.
Here, again, shapiro relies on unjustified assumptions and invalid premises. For most people, work is NOT their purpose of living, and it’s impossible for the majority of people to find such work. Almost all people endure their job to support their ACTUAL prefered life, which is usually something non-monitizable, like friendship, love, creativity, reflecting, helping others. Most workers feel alienated at work because they don’t control their workplace in ways that feel meaningful to them. You can’t get away from that being a unavoidable product of our economic system.
So, again, Shapiro sneaks in dishonest and unjustified assumptions that again render his argument completely illogical.
This is extremely typical among conservatives, who neccecarily rely on past ideals dogmatically being correct and desirable, because every critical examination of the idealized past would by definition make them leftists (because that is what the left actually IS). That is why conservatives are notorious for being allergic to empirics and critical thinking. Shapiro himself brags about ignoring everything in his education. Anti-acamedia and anti-intellectualism. Jordan Peterson does something slightly similar. He starts out with some true, or at least plausible descriptive statemement, then makes an unjustified assumption, and then makes his aduience assume the conclusion, and then can never be accountable for actually stating the conclusion of his own arguments. They are slippery and decietful snakes, and it’s extremely obvious to anyone remotely familiar with argumentation, rhetoric and the topics they speak on…
If shapiro was even remotely honest, he would admit to all of these flaws in his argument, and justify his assumptions. He doesn’t. He is a conservative. Conservatives resists every measure that furthers workers wellbeing. They resist basic rights, living wages, taxes -. Historically, they have done nothing but hurt the average person, and they are ALWAYS on the wrong side of history. Because they think rich people should stay as rich as possible at the cost of the poor, because the «strong» inherently deserve more than the «lessers» according to some imagined holy order that humans should never ever mess with, as that would «unleash chaos and degeneracy». He DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE AVERAGE PERSON.

There is really no choice in doing this when AI decides that our billionaires are the easiest people to replace. They serve no practical purpose than to eat up resources that others can use. We won't stop advancement, the best we can do is try to make the best of it. People need to find a way to pass the time so human creativity will go through the roof, aided by AI that allows them the ability to shape anything they wish basically. That could be us if we wanted it to be. We'll be exploring other solar systems without even leaving our homes maybe. We just need to get used to something different and that's all we need to do. We can fight it and lose everything or we can embrace it and possibly gain everything else from it.

IF you retire before your retirement age, tbey reduce what you get. If you want to 70 you get 124%. So a lot of people are going for that. How many of them die before that happens?

America has a crapton of old people. Social security eligibility should be at 45 and their should be some restrictions. If some dude or family is making 350k to 600k more a year than your average worker then they should be taxed so that more so that money can be used to aid more people who are gonna need that social security.
What was the percentage of eldery in America being given a God's gift to not be poor as dirt when it was implemented?

My dad was medically retired when he was 59 (he was a carpenter).
He is currently 85 years old and very much still enjoying his retirement.

There is a huge issue with retirees being able to develop hobbies and interests. My own mother has stated that if we stick to the current bare minimum budget and she doesn't get sick, she can still only afford to live until she is 80. She worked at the same company for close to 50 years, and still, her social security is not enough to live on, let alone travel or splurge. She is in constant fear of getting sick and blowing through her retirement savings too quickly. It's awful.

I saw a chatter say "Play D&D until you die"
Right on. I'm in my 40's and I'm still running games. I'm just an even better DM now.

So “people are living 30 years after their retirement” and “you’ll die 5 years into retirement” are both positions he holds

I would love to see Ben Shapiro work in an Amazon warehouse until age 65 and then see how he feels about the retirement age.

i used to work at an retirement community serving meals, and one of my coworkers literally lived in the community (we worked at an apartment-style building that offered more assistance, while she had her own house, all within the same gated community) she literally just enjoyed working and wanted to have something to do. work is great when its on your own terms
