I have a Q and it's definitely a phenomenal camera. I'm tempted by the Q2, but that's really just my GAS talking. I've shot with a few different cameras and I just enjoy the experience with my Q. I will admit, that there are times when I wish I could have a different lens or zoom, but that isn't so often. It's definitely the best travel camera I've ever owned.

Ethan, interesting thoughts. What I find interesting is how you make legible the varying relationships we have with technologies. I would say you tend toward viewing and appreciating the technology of Leica as art. Its design and engineering are aesthetically satisfying since the camera tangibly constructs the specific values of many people. Thank you for sharing!

Your knowledge of the specs is not spot on but its nice to see that you like it and appreciate the brand and its quality.
The price iof the camerea is a bargain and a fortune: depends on how you look at it. As an owner of the D850 and an Alpha 7RIII (both used differently), I’m also considering the Q2: it’s probably the best fixed lens full frame camera out there and serves its own purpose with great images too.

Kudos to you for outright stating that a Leica is a lifestyle accessory to you more than a camera, many other owners hide the same sentiment behind all sorts of fake reasons. Now - since you already have it, why not spend some extra effort into really understanding more about photography and the camera? That way you will create even greater images and enjoy your camera even more! Have fun!

Agreed. Lots of people buying super cars, gold watches... Why not spend money on camera? To be honest. I love new tech, I love photography and love cameras. My first was Zenit when I was 17. All my life then I was shooting using Canon. And then I heard of Leica of course. I'm like "$5000+ for camera and there no AF even, no thanks". When Q was announced I was in NYC at expo and hold this thing in my hand... First time I hold a Leica camera. My God... I feel so connected to it, it was so simple, shutter sound was pleasure to hear, image quality I checked later from my SD card was fantastic. So I get one. After owning it for year I realized I have shot more images with Q then I shot with my Canon for past 5 years. Leica is for life man!!! Amen!!!

It was the same for me, first time I saw a Leica camera, I was like "It's beautiful! I must have it! My life will not be complete until I own one of these!" Pick up price tag followed by: "I mean, I don't reeeeally need it, It would be nice to be able to retire one day, and there's the house down payment..."

Yay, love your reviews 😊. I have the Q-P which I purchased last month. The only thing I really miss on my camera is weatherproofing - especially in London! But there are many happy Q version 1 users out there and I think if a bit of rain was easily going to cause damage that would be reflected in unfavourable reviews , and really I haven’t seen any.

    • @EthanFromLondon

I have a large heavy monster Canon 1DX for wildlife but I am keen to get this Q2 for travel and I think its a great camera that does most of what you need. More importantly if gives you a great feeling when you are shooting with a refined brand with history and simple ergonomics. Thanks for the overview. Incidentally, does the old Q Grip fit the Q2? Again. Absolutely different point of view. I own XPro1. And then Q. Different cameras. You can say I'm stupid, that's ok, but I don't feel any connection to XPro1 as a tool. With Q you feel like you almost got a super power. You not afraid to approach people with this camera and ask then if I can snap an image of them, I don't have to carry any more lenses because crop mode is that good and cover 35mm and 50mm field of view. An addition you just feel proud that you have this camera in your hand. Until you get one for your self I doubt you will understand what we talking about here. Peace brother.

@@earlfenwick As a photographer who has been shooting with Leica and other brands for years, it's honestly a little cringesome to see the direction Leica has taken with marketing and price. Ethan did say he’d taken more photos with his Q (and enjoyed the process) than when he was using other brands of camera. He is sharing his experience via YT so the camera is being utilised - including the benefit to others that enjoy Ethan’s content. I too have purchased a Leica Q to learn how to take photos! I choose this model because, like Ethan I enjoy its simplicity and quality. I’m not rich, I live in a typical ‘white van man’ style estate but neither do I drink alcohol, smoke, buy ‘take out’ frequently, magazine subscriptions etc - it’s amazing how much ordinary pleasures can cost once examined - anyway, I have my Leica and enjoy it 😊.
