i am also owner of a Leica Q and can't deny: it's breathtaking, BUT when it comes to high iso it has a lot of grain... and you start to find some greenish colours in the shadows. My advice: in the settings put maximum iso 1600. With that lens, anyway you can get away with any light. Its colors are so amazing and at 1.7 you have an amazing bokeh. Really best camera in my life.
I also originally discovered Leica (and the Q) from Jon & Marcus, which led to the original Q being my dream camera for years! I finally was able to find a good enough deal on a used Q (in addition to selling some of my other gear) to get mine, and I still love it as much as the first day I got it. For me, it completely lives up to (and even exceeds) the hype, and it almost never leaves my side. It still inspires me every time I pick it up. Wonderful video man, thank you for sharing!
Wow - I love to hear this! Seems like we had a similar path to the Q as well as the way we discovered Leica! I truly appreciate your words.🙏 Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
Some of the images really have a unique nice look and feel to them that you presented. I can see what you mean by the quality of that lens. I’m intrigued and going to keep my eye out for a good copy. Thanks for the nice video!
Yeah I agree, there is something about the unique look that comes with the Leica series. I hope you will find one because it's such a fun camera to use!
I went searching for a Fuji X100V and ended up with a Q instead. I absolutely love everything about this camera, and you are so right. The camera is a tool and people are so preoccupied more with getting the latest and greatest rather than working on learning the technical aspect of photography and think a $6000 camera will solve their lack of creativity.
Hi William, thanks for a great video. I recently purchased a Leica Q from an estate sale, like new and your review has made me feel I've made a great choice in buying it. I'd be interested in seeing more videos, photos and tips that you may have. Have you learned many things about the Q in the past 4 months that you can share. Tx Ken
Thank you so much @NepaliNed for your comment, and big congrats to your new Leica Q! I am sure you will enjoy it 😃 Not something particular that comes to mind... But I would for sure cover the holes on the top, to prevent dust getting to the sensor. That happened to me and I had to send my Q to Leica in Germany. Great service and I got a new Lens on it, so all good! But it took about 3-4 months and it's not free.... Maybe get a spare battery if you can afford, and bring it with you as much as you can!
great photos!! I have a Q and sold all my other Leica Systems, cause the Q is the most Leica of them all... down to the essence of Leica. I love it !!!!!
Thanks! Oh, I never had any other Leica Systems, but that says a lot if your favourite is the Q - nice! High quality, discrete, retro look but still modern on the inside must be some of the essence attributes? 🙂
@@willprytz it's the literal essence of Leica in a small portable package. beautiful optic and slick user experience, simple user interface and beautiful sensor. It's co incidentally around the same size as the first Leitz camera ever made. Also I love the lightness of the camera. With the exception of Hasselblad x1d, I'm so over big bulky and heavy cameras.
@@goorackerelite I really agree with you! I bought the Q2 only after spending years building up a big Nikon collection of bodies and lenses, which do serve other purposes (my sports photography of family members, for example, where I use a 600mm lens on a Z9 and at least 20fps). So I will keep the Nikon gear, but wow, do I love the Q2 for everything else. And I don't think the Q2 will be a "gateway drug" for me into Leica M bodies. I won't go back to film, so maybe a Q3 in a few years, but I don't want spend the money to build a Leica lens collection for the digital M. The Q lens is all I will ever need. Happy shooting!
Those wedding photos are breathtaking. They made my eyes pop out because they were they were that good. They have a certain quality to them , something akin to an extremely well executed oil painting. Thanks for sharing. I want that camera. I want the Q.
I noticed that the mic holes were already taped over when you did the unboxing. Can you speak on whether or not you checked for noise on the sensor after your purchase?
This was not a true unboxing since I was not the first owner of this Leica Q 🙂 I just wanted to show what the box looked like. After I bought this Q I did notice some minor noise on the sensor, which disturbed me. I sent the camera to Leica in Germany in order to clean it, and when I got the camera back I instantly taped over the mic holes.
@@willprytz Since this is a known issue with the Q due to lack of weather sealing, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask the seller to have it cleaned before they sell it. I sold my Dlux 109 because of the dust in the sensor so I know how it feels to see specks on images when you close down to f8 and above.
@@inchon66 True, true.... I was not that well familiar with the Leica Q back then, so I wasn't aware of the potential problem. However, it was a fairly good price still.
@@inchon66 yeah, it costed me 170 euros to clean fhe sensor of my Dlux 7, and the value today is barely 600euros. But kind of I really like the Dlux 7 . Very different to my Leica Q. Both used for different reasons.
Yeah - I saw that one! No, I am happy with my original Q. If I would to upgrade it would be to a Q2 (preferably the Q2 reporter since I love the look of that one). I have always loved the wide angle look, it suits my shooting style better, so I would prefer the original Q3 with 28mm over the new 43 mm 🙂
@@willprytz your welcome. sorry if i sounded like a jerk. I just don't understand the leica thing. I have an x-e1 with my favorite sensor ever. I think 35 field of view is the widest i would go.
@@frankartale1026 No, no worries at all! I think it's refreshing and cool when people do what they like instead of just follow whats "hyped" or "hot" by the vast majority. Which focal length do you prefer?
@@willprytz honestly 35mm field of view . my griiix is just a smidge tight. I had a 25mm which is around 37mm apsc and it was perfect to me but no autofocus. So ill stick to 35 because they dont have a lens in between

1/2000th mechanical shutter ? Wow Leica spared no expense and charged it to the world. I'll never understand that or the 28mm. Boring

You can shoot the Q at 28/35/50. The image quality even at 50mm is unbelievable.
