Was at this match, nigh on 50000 in the ground. Remember Channon’s whirligig celebration. Had forgotten about Mike Doyle so nearly scoring though. Best game I ever saw at Maine Road. Great days!
Indeed ; fabulous game. Most of it I can see like it was yesterday from the opposite side as I watched on the Kippax despite being a Liverpool fan. I’d forgotten quite how much incident there was before Liverpool went ahead, although I do remember that Peter Barnes shot that Clemence just fingertipped round . There were quite a few more few missed chances from Dalglish and Fairclough and Liverpool should’ve been 6 -2 ahead after an hour. We were just swept away by magnificent football in the last half an hour.
Wow what a game! Peter Barns was a right handful. Great attacking play here. Both sides wanted to win this. (City were good, with some great players in that side - Shannon, Kidd, Royal, Barnes, Watson, Corrigan, - and anyone else who I forgot, as I am not a City fan).
City had a top side challenging for the title, on two occasions missed out by a point... You never hear that get mentioned in the mainstream... (only if its utd or Liverpool) about a year later in the uefa Cup, city seen off ac milan 3-0 at maine Road after a 2-2 in the San siro... City had some wonderful players... It all went pete tong after the 81 Cup final...👍
@@tmckboston417 I remember this season well. A lot of people thought in the summer of '77 that Keegan going to Hamburg and Channon going to City would tip the balance in favour of them for the title, but no one had bet on Clough and Forest.
Proper football fan. I'm City through and through but in my 11-15 y.o. period every weds night (European football on Granada tv) it was usually Liverpool..me and my dad would always be watching 'supporting' Liverpool (Dad was City too) ..we'd always avoid hearing scores all day, so we could watch and see the game fresh as it were lol. This game above was a rarity..enjoyed immensely by City fans...A testament to the Liverpool team.
@@garryleerob much better days Garry when you could go and watch any game and roll up pay a pound to go on the terraces. In my student days I watched City many times and supported them in European games like you did Liverpool. Those players were part of the community. I was on a train to London in 1980 to watch Liverpool at Tottenham and the Liverpool team were on the same train. Kenny Dalglish was paid 10 times as much as me and that was at the start of my working life. He was worth it. These primadonnas nowadays are not worth anything like 500 times me or more relevantly 500 times a nurse or 1000 times a career. Why should I care if they win? I really don’t care much about the game nowadays, but still vaguely want Liverpool to win.The minute any Middle East money goes in there, that is completely gone for me.
Liverpool had a top team and they had money! (Dalglish £444,000)... And too say they had no money lol 😂... Mcfc4ever!) remember no other clubs are allowed too have good owners or money apart from Liverpool or utd 😂! ") if you do it's a crime!
Andy, Shhhh, never tell them the truth. It hurts. Liverpool were never the biggest spenders. They always had to sell to spend big. Even Barnes and Beardsley were only bought with the money they got for rush. United, Forest, Spurs, Arsenal etc always out spent Liverpool.
@@tmckboston417 Liverpool very rarely had the record signings. We made £60000 selling Keegan for Dalglish. Paisley was a genius at signing players under price ; Graeme Souness £ 352000. How much were Steve Daley , Trevor Francis and Steve Mackenzie ? How many trophies did they win compared to Souness?
Liverpool should have been miles ahead after an hour with Dalglish and Fairclough missing a hatful of chances, that I can still see from being there on the day. Credit to City who completely swept us away in the last half hour . Defeat started a really bad month for Liverpool, who lost two one ti Dynamo Dresden in the week afterwards ; although five one ahead from first leg at two down away and all over the place could really have been on way to a five down and gone out and then lost at home to Aston Villa the following week, and drew at home to Bristol City which one of the newspapers headlined “ Desperate Liverpool”.
I was there! One of the most aggravating away defeats I witnessed as a Liverpool fan.....
Maine road, was something else, such a special ground, place and atmosphere!!! Miss maine Rd! Mcfc4ever
That was a great City strip.

What a mighty dominance from city against the powerful Liverpool... N the last attempt should have been a goal... Thanks for the video again

The purchase of Dalglish was financed by the sale of Keegan to Hamburg for £500,000.
Suppose the rest of your teams/squads throughout your history came from the charity shops!

Good ol days 👍
Great footage but volume too low?????
Fairclough scores early on it might have been a different game.
@ 1.33min...........should've been playing for Liverpool with a look like that eh? Ha ha.
King Kenny Dalglish should of scored instead of hitting the post at 1-1
