I just have to say, thank you for writing this song. 10 years ago this December, my sister (Heather) died in a fatal car accident at the age of 16, and this song helps me remember all the good times with her. Thank you for the inspiration and the happiness your music brings.
I'm a Fingerstyle guitarist myself, i discovered Andy a few days ago and this music is already inspiring new things into my own music. Thank you Andy, you're music enlightens me.
I'm 14 and I just got a guitar in like, September. I'm trying really hard just to get good. Knowing there are people out there with your talent just blows me away and makes me wish I were at home to play right now.
I've loved this man and all his work since 2007 when my friend from Texas while in the army introduced me to him.. He's just mesmerizing 😮😢😂🎉❤😊😅 Every emotion 🙏 Love Andy McKee
Super Sweet, Andy is obviously enjoying playing this...it's an expression of love for someone. Once you get to a certain place with a skill/talent, the work ends for the most part, and the journey of true expression begins in earnest. Thanks Andy....and Christen for sending this along. TZ
I just can't get over this dude's imagination. I hope he never stops imagining, creating, and making works of art that say so much more than any other kinds of art can.
It's so easy to misjudge interpretation when we're filled with our own self. Adam's not an idiot. He's just very young... and he may never be old enough. I stumbled into the UA-cam Abyss and came here through a very strange path. It's a lucky night when something like this happens out of the blue. Wonderful!
Hi, Andy. This one is my absolute favorite of your songs. When I heard it back when you released it, I immediately bought all your releases up to that point through candyrat. The chorus is amazing, and moves me through bone and all. Hashtag those subtle harmonics. Hopefully I'll see you on the road sometime. Cheers
It sounds to be in standard D, man one of the most beautiful left hands Ive ever herd and finding guitar talent is sorta my thing. I cant say Ive herd everybody but Ive herd some pretty amazing artists and Andy is on another level when it comes to precision and clarity its just beautiful.
Irano1995 Yes you are correct, my apologies. Been playing guitar for about 10 years but until Andy (this particular video) I was not per-say unaware of a baritone guitar, but I had never seen or herd one played for that matter. I was just going off the deepness in what would be the low E. Anyhow Still a gorgeous Piece of music. Thanks for the correction.
@dragon21247 He is using a baritone guitar in this video. A bass guitar and a baritone guitar are not the same thing. A baritone is the same as a regular guitar, except that it is tuned down, I think its about 2 and 1/2 steps but Im not sure exactly. Bass guitars are typically used as backup for another player and usually has 4 strings. McKee uses, in his latest videos, two Greenfield guitars. One is a fanned-fret acoustic and the other is a baritone acoustic, which he uses in this video.
Let mу speak native!
@dragon21247 You are wrong. Baritone guitars exist. They have larger bodies and longer necks. Therefore, they are tuned lower than normal guitars. And I never said that six stringed bases never had more than 4 strings. All I am saying is that baritone guitars DO have 6 strings and Andy McKee is using one in this video. He also does in Ebon Coast and a few of his other tunes. Acoustic bases are the guitars that typically have 4 strings.
@ckfootballman I believe that is because he plays this song on a baritone guitar, which is a lot like a regular steel string guitar on a slightly bigger scale tuned I think 4 steps down, so it's much lower and bassier.
@lofwenmark I'm pretty sure he meant it as a compliment in that even though the piece is so complicated, McKee can just play and enjoy it as opposed to focusing on the notes making sure not to mess up like so many of the cover artists do.
really? i feel like this song is cake compared yo his other ones. (not cake..but a lot of his other stuff is crazy compicated rythyms. like art of motion for example.)
+Charles Collin I hear you. I'm not saying this one is easy neither. im struggling a little with this one. but I just finished tight tright night. that one was a percussive nightmare lol
I just like to say thank you Andy foe giving us that thing that makes us get back to our guitars, you helped me alot even thow you don't know, but I got a big problem with both my hands, I used to play alond with my dad and famaly that used to be the group "image/box office" anyway, since I seen you play I found a way to pick up my guitar and look up to someone who really knows what music's about!
@Jakalar1 it is properly called drop tuning to d flat open the open chord thats when you strum the guitar and that open chord is d flat not e maj.no such animal as a six baritone acoustic just 4 string,!!!! fender jaguar six bass jack bruce, keith richards
are there any videos that y’all know of that could help me to learn this piece? Even something to get me started would be amazing I don’t even know where to begin with this Thanks :))
I got Art Of Motion for Christmas, came this song and just couldn't imagine how the heck he was doing what he was doing, so I had to watch this video to see if it was humanly possible to play this song all at one time on a single guitar. All I can say is: wow.
My guitar teacher knows this guy, he comes into a college near my school for a guitar workshop sometime this year, I get to go and personally meet him :D
@lofwenmark I am one...I just meant that this thing is a lot 2 play and theres lots to be concentrating on...I didnt mean it in the literal sense ..i know musicians are suppose to enjoy and stuff...but when i play this i can just play it and not really enjoy ...it will be a while when i do both
@2111redman haha i dont know why im busy alot with the Marines and Fire dept but im gonna pick up playing again it relaxes me i only wish i could play as good as Andy
I first heard this song on an 8tracks playlist and had to know what it was called because I was in love.. My name is Heather, and I've never been so happy about that.
@DAVEOSUPREMO1 just because he cant play like that doesnt mean he is not savvy enough to point out faults. However, he would be missing the point of the video. These videos are one time through live performances, so all the little mistakes (which he makes some in these set of videos) and additives to the song that he puts in is what makes it special. Critiquing it would be pointless but certainly does not put him at fault

These Vevo recordings and Andy's new take show's his maturity as a musician. This song is so much more rythmically groovy than the original. Love it.
One of the best songs ever
I'm 14 and I just got a guitar in like, September. I'm trying really hard just to get good. Knowing there are people out there with your talent just blows me away and makes me wish I were at home to play right now.
Hey. It's been 3 years and I hope they've been good for you :). How's the guitar coming along?
its been 5yrs, have you made it?
I've loved this man and all his work since 2007 when my friend from Texas while in the army introduced me to him.. He's just mesmerizing 😮😢😂🎉❤😊😅 Every emotion 🙏 Love Andy McKee

Words fail. I've been a fan for some 3 years now, and I never fail to be amazed afresh by Andy's talent. Wonderful! That must be so fun to play.
His greenfield guitars are so awesome. Sickest out there
I think Andy qualifies as my personal favorite guitarist. Can't wait to see him in san diego!
Stepping slowly away from my computer..... turning around...... picking up my guitar..... placing it in the trash......
Yea man, This guy here.... inspires me
Whoa, this is mindblowingly awesome. Imagine being able to sit down with an acoustic on your front porch and play that!

It's actually standard B
On Baritone guitar its a standard B
On Standard guitar its the standard tuning
Irano1995 Yes you are correct, my apologies. At first Rylynn was my favorite song by Andy McKee. But now, this is.
Totally awesome. Love the music. Saw him live a while back. Nice guy.
Beautiful song! Thank you! Found this on accident while searching for songs for my granddaughter, Heather's, upcoming funeral.
this is the greatest song ive ever heard in my entire life
Andy you amaze me and I am speechless.... unfotunately I'm gonna miss you in San Diego cause I'm stuck out in Hawaii.....I am so pissed.

i absolutely love ur songs, been listening to u for over 15 years now. back when u shaved ur head n had the full beard.
For anybody who really wants to play this piece just like me and can’t find out the tuning. I just found out it’s B standard
Ok :))
Lol I know right.. all we had to do was just tune the whole thing down 😂
Baritone guitar
Low to high?: B B D# F# B D# (asking before I even attempt it)
I love the effect that harmonics creates. One can get lost in it.
AHHH!! HEs too good. I listened to pretty much all these already..I cant get enough
lack of voice doesnt mean lack of feels, this song is the prove, i love you and your talent andy.
this guy has some crazy skills..makes me wanna start playing again
Love this guy, everything he does is just incredible. :)
@ckfootballman I believe that is because he plays this song on a baritone guitar, which is a lot like a regular steel string guitar on a slightly bigger scale tuned I think 4 steps down, so it's much lower and bassier.
awesome awesome awesome . Thanks for the inspiration.

i love this song.
@zakdog I think he uses open D (Dadgad) low to high. where you just drop tune the E's and B a whole step from Eadgbe to Dadgad
@PsychoBeast1980 I do think it is a baritone though, and it does look as if it has a jumbo's width. you can look at greenfield guitars and find out
one of the trickiest song of andy :) .... im so amazed
really? i feel like this song is cake compared yo his other ones. (not cake..but a lot of his other stuff is crazy compicated rythyms. like art of motion for example.)
+Jimmy Delano well art of motion is quite hard to, but I play most of andy mckee's song, and this one geme troubles :P
+Charles Collin I hear you. I'm not saying this one is easy neither. im struggling a little with this one. but I just finished tight tright night. that one was a percussive nightmare lol
yahh this don ross song must be something too !
beautiful
I just like to say thank you Andy foe giving us that thing that makes us get back to our guitars, you helped me alot even thow you don't know, but I got a big problem with both my hands, I used to play alond with my dad and famaly that used to be the group "image/box office" anyway, since I seen you play I found a way to pick up my guitar and look up to someone who really knows what music's about!
This is true music
You know that feeling when a guitar is too new but you love playing it anyway. :P
I love his green guitar!
This man's right hand is so freakin groovy!
@zakdog technically he plays it a couple of steps down on a baritone guitar, but the song can be played the same in standard
@ikeman1156 Nope. Drifting is the only song that uses dadgad. This song is in standard Baritone tuning.
@Jakalar1 it is properly called drop tuning to d flat open the open chord thats when you strum the guitar and that open chord is d flat not e maj.no such animal as a six baritone acoustic just 4 string,!!!! fender jaguar six bass jack bruce, keith richards

Thanks :))

On the live performance on your right "Andy Mckee Heathers Song Live @ Best Buy" he says that he dedicated this song to his sister Sarah.
beautiful!
I got Art Of Motion for Christmas, came this song and just couldn't imagine how the heck he was doing what he was doing, so I had to watch this video to see if it was humanly possible to play this song all at one time on a single guitar. All I can say is: wow.

@lofwenmark I am one...I just meant that this thing is a lot 2 play and theres lots to be concentrating on...I didnt mean it in the literal sense ..i know musicians are suppose to enjoy and stuff...but when i play this i can just play it and not really enjoy ...it will be a while when i do both
If the 16 people who disliked this video could do this, they'd be proud of their skill. Really quite a talent.
@Sadusteein yes it is!!! feelin the emotion of the song
@2111redman haha i dont know why im busy alot with the Marines and Fire dept but im gonna pick up playing again it relaxes me i only wish i could play as good as Andy
I love this song =)
Amazing...
@kezmondo isn't it Asus7?
LOVELY
Under his arm it's a armrest, and his guitar have also an extra soundhole on the side on the upper bout.
I love this song. It makes me wonder who "Heather" is every time I listen to this.
this guy is simply amazing... imagine jamming with him for a day?
Hi Andy love heathers song
I first heard this song on an 8tracks playlist and had to know what it was called because I was in love.. My name is Heather, and I've never been so happy about that.
How can someone dislike talent?
does anybody know what tuning this is in?
calming
This man must have a wonderful soul .. :)
he is cool!!
Does anybody know if this is standard tuning or DADGAD?
Holy mother of the guitar gods! :O
Isso é um colírio para meus ouvidos...
How can he enjoy and play that stuff at the same time...either u play or u just enjoy...
@DAVEOSUPREMO1
just because he cant play like that doesnt mean he is not savvy enough to point out faults. However, he would be missing the point of the video. These videos are one time through live performances, so all the little mistakes (which he makes some in these set of videos) and additives to the song that he puts in is what makes it special. Critiquing it would be pointless but certainly does not put him at fault
Is that an extra soundhole on the edge of his guitar or is that some sort of arm rest?
@27callum standard tunning but using a baritone guitar
This sound and video are so wonderful. Whoever read this comment I wish you mind health and relaxation.
@GuitarMelodiesSB I love living in Switzerland... no ads on youtube for me.. ;)
Patrick Galli Still the case?
3:23 = What sound is that???
Sick!
@jimmypaged259 Heather Nova?
@MusicMan92929 who wouldn't after he wrote a song for her like this? Man I melt every time I hear it!
Phenom!!!!

You're crazy finggerstyle andy. ,!!!!!
@TurkiyeCumhurbaskani why are you saying this in an Andy Mckee video? LOL XD
Leicester is a Greenfield Guitar!!! Wonderfull sound!! but I think it just sounds so well with andy hands! :-)
