- Peter Hitchens says he is not that bothered by the result of the US elections and told Mike Graham that "in 1776 America declared independence and they are jolly well entitled to it"
He also said "there was something highly peculiar about the sight of people standing ridiculous distances from each other" at the remembrance Sunday services.
Thank you Peter, the voice of common sense.

What a sad Britain we live in. Average death rates are well within normal range yet 'Project Fear' has worked and many are terrified and will comply with any government dictat. Spoken to a local pharmacy and antibiotic prescription have gone sky high as the face nappies are causing a large rise in bacterial lung infections. I despair!
Some people, I feel, still think if we only toe the line for a little longer, all will be restored to normal.
It's a very divisive point, as it implies a neutrality.

No they can't. I have a degree you can't easily get, a set of skills which is in high demand and low supply, a combination of experience in the broader industry as well as specialised sub-fields, and I took a pay cut in order to work a job which I would personally enjoy more. I'm also the only person who knows how a number of critical systems in our product work inside out.
There is simply no possibility my employer can find someone with my skills, experience, and product knowledge and hire them for less money. If they really wanted to replace me, they could do so, but it would be expensive and would result in massive delays.

@@LondonSteveLee Fair enough, I guess I am a rarity. My employer has stringent security reasons why they cannot outsource much of what we do, though we do outsource some testing.
But yeah, I suppose I can see some employers without such concerns going that way in future.

Same here. 5 emails and all I got so far by way of a response was a link to the government papers on Advice for Care homes- why would I read a document that contains FAILING policies ? The next 4 emails have not been granted a response.:(

I was at the local memorial in our town at 11, o’clock Sunday morning. There were seven other people besides myself in attendance. Absolutely woeful. 2020 is a year I hope to forget quick smart.

As a nurse of 40 years, let me tell you that the NHS is as corrupt as it gets. Jobs for the boys, etc plus huge fraud. It should have been got rid of years ago!

I wrote to my MP and got what seemed to be a weak pre-written response that had no substance to it. I signed the petition "to repeal the Coronavirus Act 2020" which stands over 10 thousand signatures now, but I'm not expecting many MPs to do anything about this. So I've made my mid up to not vote for any current main parties going forwards and will vote for the new parties that are currently moving into place.
I just signed it due to your comment and it's over 100k now..looks like it's going to be debated.

2027 is when their current royal charter ends. There will be another fudge to allow them to get another one after that. Nothing will really change. The BBC will just slowly fade away, as their long established viewers begin to die off. Few people under 30 watch the BBC, maybe few people even under 40. Compared to previous years.

Apologies for bothering you again and I have appreciated your time in replying previous to this.
In brief, as you are most likely aware, the opposition to the culling of our freedom in Britain to be able to see our families, to work, enduring cancelled weddings and funerals, see the old dying alone, witness gestapo-style policing in Sainsburys for people medically exempt from wearing masks is now at it’s breaking point.
It may be worth mentioning, if you are allowed an opinion that will be listened to in parliament (I’ve noticed Boris cuts people off immediately if against the agenda), that people are now looking desperately to the May 2021 elections to show the government our anger in their mismanagement.
It will be a sad time for me as I personally feel you are an excellent local representative but I can’t wait four years so would have to lend my vote to ‘Reform UK’.
More of us need to contact our MPs and simply say what Peter Hitchens said here: "If you continue to support the destruction of our livelihoods I will not support you keeping your job come next election." So simple. So quick. Just google 'Contact your MP' on Google and go to 'email your MP' . Three or four clicks. Just do it! ✌🏾

We have become a spineless nation. Had to accept it myself and it does break my heart. Even the French are pushing back on this more than we are. Just listening to everyday people talk about this Virus as if its going to get them is so sad. Well they maybe in for a shock the next few years with state of the country after this. We just conform and never question anything and yet a lot of us know the media and government have a certain level of incompetence and corruption.

@Liz Er.. Hello? If Scotland 'rejoins' the EU it will have to live under YEARS of austerity while the European Political Union dictates terms and conditions. Oh, and Scotland would be compelled to have the Euro. Look at what has happened to Greece. It would be a repeat of that disaster. How is that independence for Scotland?
I think what you miss is that the SNP would have to give political power to Brussels , adhere to tax laws and give up fishing Grounds etc. Where as we are (UK)looking for trade deals only.

No problem with our local police the memorial is opposite Chingford police station It was just FANTASTIC TO SEE ❤️. Really professionally run everyone there social distanced the Band was.smaller but kept there distance etc

An influential woman in our church recently died, and at the graveside liturgy, we broke with the governmental restrictions when our precentor started bellowing out a hymn and we all sang along. It felt like a cup of cool, fresh water on a hot, blistering day.
Merthyr Tydfil were locally locked down weeks before we had our national fire break... My little town was locked down weeks before too...

Watched a programme last night about the final few days of WWII in Germany and it suddenly dawned on me the parallels with the Nazi’s controlling their population using fear and propaganda, uniting against an ‘enemy’.

I'm pretty sure I read something about Governments relieving the burden of debt from people who lose their livelihoods and can't afford their mortgages etc but then the State owns the person's home and the former home owner exists on universal basic income.

Problem with sacking the Conservative MP is, who can you vote for? Labour, and moreso the LibDems, are shouting for even more extreme and longer lockdowns. I would love to vote not-Conservative, but unless Nigel Farage or Laurence Fox puts up a candidate, then the Conservative is the best of a bad lot.

Most people wanted this lock-down - the majority are now in (taxpayer)state-sponsored jobs so will not suffer in the short-term if much of the productive side of the economy is destroyed. Wait for their complaints when austerity returns due to lack of tax receipts.
"We already pay enough tax" they'll say.
Government borrowed cash to keep people on furlough. Everyone will have to stump up so we can pay off our national debt as public spending demands increase.
Those who moan need to see that taxpayers money into the billions of pounds is spent inefficiently. Call on elected politicians to get a grip of the problem!
