  • Columnist Peter Hitchens has argued against compulsory face masks, calling for “relaxed” train carriages and shops for those who do not wish to wear one.
Speaking with talkRADIO’s Mike Graham, he said mandatory mask wearing was “more superstition than science”.
Boris Johnson has urged the public to wear face coverings in shops, with an announcement on whether they will be compulsory in England due in the coming days.

The wearing of masks to go grocery shopping is bad enough, but the requirement to wear a mask while engaged in physical labor 8 hours a day is criminal.

The people I've talked to working in my local shops have told me that they are voluntarily choosing to wear these Masks. It's the Control Freaks who are trying to force shoppers to wear them when entering shopping centres and using public transport who are disrespecting their customers. I am boycotting any shop who insists I wear a Mask. After all, when I worked full-time for 26 years and paid thousands of pounds and housing rent and Poll and Council Taxes, I never demanded that my customers should wear a Mask and wash their hands with hand gel before approaching me for help. Only the Control Freaks amongst us are insisting that shoppers should wear these Masks for a Virus known as GREED. :-(

@@insanityrulestheday Agree completely, shopped throughout lockdown at my local Lidl, when quiet, usually evening's, no problems with distancing at all. Now at this late stage, when supposed to be normalizing, being forced to wear a face muzzle seems ridiculous, especially when directly across the road there's a Wetherspoons, with far many more people in than Lidl, with no muzzles. They are in for hours, whilst I'm about 20 minutes. Intend to do my one main shop under sufferance and then do without everything else that I would have normally gone into shops for.

The councils should be providing Bio hazard bins at every bus stop, rail station and outside shops. These used masks could and would be really deadly. As this is not the case, and every bus stop I walk past has discarded masks on the pavement, then masks can't really be doing anything at all can they?

It does NOT decrease the safety of people who wear them. Otherwise far more Japanese, Koreans, etc. would be ill or injured from wearing them.

The simple fact here is, Masks are for surgeons preforming operations that require an absence of infection from the surgeon to the patient. Wearing a mask in this circumstance is absolutely absurd.

There are no urgent medical reasons for imposing masks at this point. So many people are exempt it negates any benefits.

If everyone had a FFP2/N95 CE respirator, not a mask, properly fitted to the face like it should be, single-use, I can see a possible reason for requiring them. As it is, the blue surgical mask is next to useless. One made at home out of an old t-shirt is next to totally useless. Wearing one with a valve is just a joke.
That said, my local supplier now has some FFP3-Valved in stock, but I'm only allowed three. But, I need them to protect myself from plasterboard, MDF dust and insulation fibres.
'Trying to stop a virus with a cloth mask is like trying to stop a mosquito with a chain-link fence.'

I suspect the Govt has just killed the high street retail recovery, Judging by the response of use to public transport due to muzzling, I would guess people will choose to shop from home.
