    My kinda scenery, I enjoyed this trip. Thank you, Captain!
    I'm from the hills of Tennessee. All trees and slate mostly. Change of pace was so nice on a Friday afternoon. Enjoy the 💦🧜💦 water.

    Really enjoyed your video. I am in Canada and took a similar trip on the Murray on a large houseboat back in 2004. It remains a highlight of my life. And I think your little home on the water is cleverly designed and homey. Good cruiser but can really move if you need to get there quickly.

      @@steve-vg1iy I wish we could. There are now a few of my DIANNE"S ROSE designs built out your way. One is due to cruise the Murray in the near future so keep an eye pealed! May I ask what size motor you are using. I get asked what would make our boat plane and I figure about 50 hp would do it but have not tested that theory. Our boat is 17' x 8' beam and similar in hull shape as yours. Hope all are well! BestRoy

    Steve; great video... I'm more interested in the boat and design... any chance of some stills of it being built or at least some good stills of now and a narration of what you did and why? Material used, cost, etc???
    2nd I did love the drag race and noticed that it got up on a plane.. what size engine, fuel consumption, on a plane, cruising, etc... all this is important to dreamers that do. I like a lot of your simple design but would definitely put drop down sideboard and some kind of drop down railing for the sundeck (roof) fold up chairs etc. and a good galley.
    BTW what are the amenities? Shower (only bath in the river?) toilet?? I see the forward birth...
    Also how is it in rough water? seems it would handle it well given its size and dimensions...
    I would put sails on it too (square rig would be so cool like a pirate ship and sideboards) I took a sunk motorboat (Trojan.. such wonderful wood, teak deck and mahogany everywhere and good oak, only they failed in construction) raised it and slowly pulled in the bellied hull, put two masts (hand railing from a tour boat) sails out of bed sheets and plastic ironed between and drift wood for the large rudder and sideboards... sailed about 500 miles in rough weather, calm fog etc in the winter on the Chesapeake Bay and it sailed up wind so well i was amazed.... This seems to be a perfect retro to this and with my new sails it would be a breeze.. ha ha...
    Thanks for any answers you may give!! Blessings

    Wonderful. I missed Goolwa 2017 (the only one missed since starting in 2005). I haven't seen SemloH on the river: where are you based? I have traversed the whole Murray from the top of Lake Hume past the mouth, and part way down the Coorong, in my 9 m Tennessee. Others without boats of this scale can do that commercially (Spirit of the Murray cruises), or Mannum - Goolwa on PS Marion (I just did that for 2019), or hire a River Wren and do Swan Reach - Wellington yourself (but not across the lake). All river boaters have a healthy respect for the lake. Read the weather report: it is shallow, and cuts up rough in wind. Go on first light, and cross the main Point Pomanda - Point Sturt 40 km before lunch (when the wind gets up). You can understand Steve's triumph and round of applause as he got there in such a small boat. Usually a gaggle of cruising boats attending the rally cross in tandem with Marion: peace of mind, and a rescue tinnie at hand. IIRC 2017 had funny winds; some crossed in the wind; others made a moonlight crossing.

      Thanks for your encouraging words. I to love the Murray and am soon heading from Cobram to Albury, God willing.
      I’m based on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. I spend a lot of time in Gippsland as well as some lakes but I like the Murray best.

    I've seen these in plan form and have only ever seen 1 built but this appears to be a modified version to the plans i have seen ,, did making it wider change the way it sits in the water at all especially when people all stand on 1 side of it with its maximum load rating ???....i might build one out of steel ..

    • @steve-vg1iy
      @steve-vg1iy  5 років тому

      Hi. Sorry this reply is late. The boat handles very well for rivers and lakes. I have been out on a bay that has had waves over half a metre and whilst it swayed around a bit it was safe.
      I would think a aluminium boat such as mine would be a good and light structure.
      This design was straight out of my head😊 cheers
