- I replace the cam belt on my 1998 Alfa 156 ts. Of course I am a happy amateur so everything I do might be completely wrong. If you plan to do it, get a workshop manual and watch this video to see how things might look while you're doing it.
Enjoy! - Авто та транспорт
Late to the party here but have been searching for how to videos while I consider tackling this job myself and this is easily the best/most detailed I’ve seen. Awesome vid, cheers! 👍
Thanks mate, warms to hear! Take care and good luck!
Change the timing belt in the middle of a street parking... You are my hero!
I had to do that too because I don't have a garage where I live now and I'm not paying a mechanic $100 / hour to mess it up.
I saw a Lube Mobile mobile mechanic outside my place change a clutch on an old Mazda in the street. It too him 2 days. He said he was only getting paid $32 / hour but the company he worked for was charging the customer $150 /hour. Don't ask me why. LOL
My thoughts. So unfazed. Mechanical hero lol.
Still the best vid for this car on this subject, well done on the camera angles and procedure
Thank you so much! Really extreme conditions, but you did it perfectly) In Russia we do it usually in the garage
Thanks a lot for sharing everyone with this terrific video showing us a mechanical lesson, especially I have almost the same car. I do appreciate it. keep on with other videos.
Best Regards
You are King of Petrolheads! Thanks!
Wow, thank you :)
Enjoyed the video, I love how you are in a nice white shirt while working on the car!
Thank you so much, this will be very useful when i will change the timing belt on my 1.8ts. I will of course use a workshop manual as well as this video.
Great Introduction for any kind of mechanic, thank you a lot!
Thank you!
Kul att du är tillbaka.
car repaired in white shirt, it's very, very nice :)
Great video - I can see that I will need to watch the position of the crankshaft via the TDC gauge, as it moved when fitting the belt. Thank you
Happy it could be of help. 🌞
Well done! Good job! Thank you Sir!
I am doing this on mine right now, this video helped me so much!! Thanks!! You're a legend! Btw, where was this recorded??
Warms my heart that it's of use! 😄 It's in southern Spain.
@@StreetMec I thought so, looks like Spain 🇪🇦
Thank you for your sharing this video. It is quite fun to watch people DIY ing their own thing. But may I suggest one thing that I notice when I see how you tighten both cam shaft pulleys. I notice that your TDC moves a little bit while you are putting belt on,installing tightener..I think this causes miss timing already! SO I think ,,Maybe we should recheck TDC from time to time before we tighten up anything on the timing belt system. I just try to change my belt by myself ,too soon. Happy to see your video and I learned a lot already.. THanks ! StreetMec
Sounds like a really great idea! Thanks!
Top man you have my vote
Finally english :) Much appreciate it!
Natural sunlight is ideal in order to see all the parts etc. Most videos of this procedure are too dark and lacking in detail. Thank you!
good vid
hill's. Do you have manual for repliche Cam belt?
how can i get the workshop manual, any link? Video is great very helpful
Sorry for late reply and sorry again cause I cannot find the link anymore. If I do find it, I'll post it!

Where I can find this camshaft pulley tool - 21:27 ?
Great video!
I got mine at Amazon. (laser 2869 camshaft sprocket holding tool)
Please mind the camshaft position sensor behind the sprocket - I've broken it twice while holding the camshaft with that tool.. 😫)
Why take the cam sprockets off?
Where did you get your workshop manual? I have found an electronic one, but it isnt very helpful
Hi, it was a while ago now, but if I remember correctly, I found it somewhere in the forum of alfaowner.com. Hope you find it and good luck!
@@StreetMec thank you very much! I will try to look for it 👍
11:25 what is the name of that tool you put in cylinder head and how it works ?
It's a TDC pin + precision dial. If you can find the workshop manual, I think the tool numbers are listed on the cam belt job and then you can search for it in you favourite marketplace.
Arent those torx screw? Or are thees somehow different?
If I recall correctly, they are Ribe/Polydrive, which are similar but a little bit different: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives#Polydrive
@@StreetMec ok, thanks. Looking to do this in near future.
Which year of production is alfa 156 1.8? There is no balance belt?
Mine is an early one, model year 1998, although I think none of the 1.8s had balance shafts, only the 2.0 engines.
Thank you so much, mine is face lift model 2004, and now I must change timing belt and I saw on you tube some model 1.8 TS they also Have balance shaft, hii from Slovenia
I dont understand why you need to loosen the cam sprockets
To correct the timing belt I guess
ok i just saw yor video , jumping ack and forward to check important moments,
you didnt teach any good lesson to the viewrs, but , thanks anyway
A video from a professional Alfa mechanic teaching lessons would have been brilliant. Let me know if you find any!
