  • I replace the cam belt on my 1998 Alfa 156 ts. Of course I am a happy amateur so everything I do might be completely wrong. If you plan to do it, get a workshop manual and watch this video to see how things might look while you're doing it.
    Enjoy!

    Late to the party here but have been searching for how to videos while I consider tackling this job myself and this is easily the best/most detailed I’ve seen. Awesome vid, cheers! 👍

      I had to do that too because I don't have a garage where I live now and I'm not paying a mechanic $100 / hour to mess it up.
      I saw a Lube Mobile mobile mechanic outside my place change a clutch on an old Mazda in the street. It too him 2 days. He said he was only getting paid $32 / hour but the company he worked for was charging the customer $150 /hour. Don't ask me why. LOL

    Great video - I can see that I will need to watch the position of the crankshaft via the TDC gauge, as it moved when fitting the belt. Thank you

    Thank you for your sharing this video. It is quite fun to watch people DIY ing their own thing. But may I suggest one thing that I notice when I see how you tighten both cam shaft pulleys. I notice that your TDC moves a little bit while you are putting belt on,installing tightener..I think this causes miss timing already! SO I think ,,Maybe we should recheck TDC from time to time before we tighten up anything on the timing belt system. I just try to change my belt by myself ,too soon. Happy to see your video and I learned a lot already.. THanks ! StreetMec

      I got mine at Amazon. (laser 2869 camshaft sprocket holding tool)
      Please mind the camshaft position sensor behind the sprocket - I've broken it twice while holding the camshaft with that tool.. 😫)

    11:25 what is the name of that tool you put in cylinder head and how it works ?

    • @StreetMec
      @StreetMec  6 років тому

      It's a TDC pin + precision dial. If you can find the workshop manual, I think the tool numbers are listed on the cam belt job and then you can search for it in you favourite marketplace.

      If I recall correctly, they are Ribe/Polydrive, which are similar but a little bit different: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives#Polydrive

    Which year of production is alfa 156 1.8? There is no balance belt?

    • @StreetMec
      @StreetMec  11 місяців тому

      Mine is an early one, model year 1998, although I think none of the 1.8s had balance shafts, only the 2.0 engines.
