      Low stretch, tight structure, smell and taste. Then effects/potency, had frosty cultivars that don't touch me and okay looking stuff lay me out, That's what im looking for. Yield usually comes but not always.

    Great conversation , pheno hunting is what makes it fun , I'm 68 and been seed crazy since the early 70s , I've found many a cool seed in old cars and vans in old yards and auto wreckers , found an envelope with a thai stick , dust and several seeds in about 1979 , still have some of those genetics . Don't know what a lot of my seeds are but some real unique phenos ..... amazing plant , one seed has so much potential !

    I've pulled clones from plants that were in deep flower. It takes a lot longer, but if you find something worth keeping taking a cut is always an option.

    • @wakeUPdummies
      @wakeUPdummies 3 роки тому

      The first time I tried to clone deep in flower was off of a bad seed I put in the back yard in yard dirt. Some kind of egoar/Frankenbud monster grew. So I put three clones in the tent. 3 weeks and no new growth but the stem was still green and supple. I gave up thinking Something weird would have to be in the dirt by now. I took apart the pots and dirt and 4 to 6 1/4 inch roots were forming at the nodes. I should have left them. No seeds either. The buds will forever be a legend.

    If the genotype is the architect’s design, the phenotype is the way the builder constructs it.
    Phenotype is the overall epigenetic representation of the phenotype. It is the physical manifestation of the genotype and it’s an environmental control. The right conditions have to exist for certain features to manifest.

    What an awesome chat! So much good info and advice in a short space of time, thanks guys! Totally agree with Jay, it's important to have fun whilst pheno hunting.
    As I pop more and more seeds from reputable breeders I find there are so many phenotypes and it's almost pure luck if you're going to get something amazing that suits your growing style and medical needs or something that won't. It has been disheartening for me as 5 months of work go into each hunt and you end up with something you don't like but I'm realising it's all a part of the process and job and now I'm having a little more fun with each hunt! 💚

      The only thing I dislike about this whole retched business is that some growers show such arrogance and its pretty much that that upholds their status. The community is devolving as it seems that the will of arrogant people is negatively impacting new growers. This can be seen in all the forums. Geno is the strain, their "race" instead of going into esoteric realms that go way over most peoples heads. This is one of the channels I watch because I dont get those vibes. Why not just be honest and further the communitys agenda though. " Pheno" doesnt make a plant produce more THC than a plant one calls a variety of a strain. Or people dare disfranchise other growers with insidious tactics. If I purchase a select cutting from a reputable vendor and I have a perfectly even canopy buds same size. I am insulting everyone if I say the guy who grew the same strain failed in his duties because his canopy is all uneven each plant looking totally different. Most people who are here watching buy a bag of seeds called a certain name they remember as they smoked it in the past. Of course a bag of seeds has such an incredible genetic diversity, arent twins in us people incredibly rare and still develop different characteristics. Seed companies would profit incredibly if it was more grower friendly, if you buy cement shoes based on a picture and get sativa characteristics not knowing why their colas are above their lights. As "phenos" become more prevalent the genetic diversity becomes irrelevant. Thankfully I started like J did pop seeds and realize through self learning that sometimes 100 seeds even of a that self pollinated plant will never produce that same plant. Stop it with that Genotype bullshit. As theres no geno that that will produce a desired pheno with exact precision as that in itself effectively turns it into a geno as its genetic evolution is turned off. Most growers dont know purple kush produces green buds as well thinking theyve been fleeced lose their drive. You cant convince me green buds with bright orance hairs is purple kush, sorry you have been lied to discreetly. Grow for fun
      Youll eventually find something worth revegging

      @@caincorona4359 true that... I have a almost 13 year old cut of GDP that puts out the most insane lime green leaves and flowers I've ever seen that produces purple pistils and purple trichromes that gives me straight purple hash. These are the truly rare characteristics a good breeder and cannabis connoisseur searches thru a strain for countless years to find a truly special plant with unique expressions that may never happen again.

At the end of the 4-500 bean pheno hunt I'll end up with 2-3 males and just a few more females then that to continue with my breeding projects. The rest go to folks in need.

    Great information and realistic view on a lot of things. Many don't like runts or plants that have stress and issues. But you don't know how strong something is until it is stressed or has issues. Lot of the same could be said about a human many experience issues while growing and quit or get discouraged. I use a cup of water for 24 hours and then I like to use a paper towel soaked in water after for couple days. A seed in water will Crack and sorta be ready but with the paper towel for a day or do allows the seed to grow a little and then you can pull out a seed with a root sprouted with a singular tail and use a pencil or something create your hole and plop it into some soil or media of your choosing. I believe is the best way to do so. With the singular root when putting into soil or media it doesn't have to turn and flip to find the top of the soil it's already placed the right way and just emerges from the soil and starts its journey. But what works for you works for you, you can give someone advice or try to instruct them to do it a certain way. But all of our conditions aren't the same or when trying to replicate won't do its exactly as instructed and then blame you for not having the results you spoke of. So all information is advice or like guidance but not maditory or some set law you have to follow. Breeding I feel people have genetics they make and believe they own them now and for the rest of time. But ask yourself where did they get the strains to do so and create what they're known for? We all have gotten strains and seeds for someone no one person has created cannabis we may be able create something new and then be known for doing so thats great. But doesn't mean you own it and no one can't use that strain to use and create something new just like they did at one point and time. But you should inform and allow the person who's strain you have used to create allow them taste see or give them the opportunity to be involved. But no one owns nature, we own the thing we create but can't stop evolution. I grow for myself and not greedy and want to create a few things just like cookies just like skittlez just like but we all have different eyes and minds so let all create something new and hope people like but the cannabis and things involved are a tricky thing friends can turn into foes and family can become an enemy sad reality when they say keep your friends close but enemies closer is a dangerous mindset but some use stay woke in this day and age

    All of my strains have a great flavor and high thc. So, the only thing that I look for is big buds, heavy frost and a big stalk and big branches. If it produces less than 56 grams then it doesn't make the cut. This guy thinks just like me. I hate to throw away any plant. Except I keep males if I am trying to make a new strain of seeds. I love to experiment with pollen. And yes, the smaller runt plants can have qualities that are amazing. You never know. I like to take those small strains and cross them with a tall plant to make the perfect medium sized plant that produces 4-5 ozs instead of 28 grams. Growing is an adventure. My latest strain that I made is Berries&Cream. It's my Crunch Berries x Gelato. I have 8 different plants going in flower now and I see about 4 different phenos. 2 out of 8 made 36 inch tall plants with pine cone sized colas with the rest making 24 inch tall plants and thumb sized colas. I love pheno hunting.

    How about instead of rubbing stems all up and down your arm, have a box of Q-Tips to use as tester swabs. can even label them and go back and compare smells after you get them all done.
