Surreal. I must have listened to this thousands of times as a child. Every night for probably 5 years. I'm in my 40s now but I can still preempt every word, listening back. Remarkable piece of nostalgia here. Thank you very much for sharing it.
This was my first ever introduction to Roald Dahl, and the first time I heard Bernard Cribbins's voice. Thank you so much for preserving this, and other Roald Dahl audio cassettes like these for a new generation of fans. Rest In Peace, Bernard Cribbins, Sir.
This is finally thee one fromy childhood. It was a red cassette. I was given it by my aunty as gift. Best version. I'm 38 and I been trying to find this version for since I was child. The soundtrack is amazing and very enchanting. I used to sneak my older brothers Walkman and secretly listen to this under the covers. 😎🤗😎
Thanks for the upload. I totally agreed with a lot of the comments on here. I used to listen to this on my Walkman in bed as a kid. I remember the sounds and narration so vividly. Such a wonderful time of my life.
Thank you so much for uploading this, I have been searching for it for years. I had given up hope at one point. Thank you!! Just need to see if they have a pure soundtrack of the music :D
I had almost all of these rainbow theatre Roald Dahl dramatizations as a kid, and I've been searching online for them for ages! Awesome to hear this again. Also btw, why is it that the BFG always! has the best soundtrack?
The theme for the evil giants always creeped me out. It really does give that sense of them stalking a human in the dark of night and eating him/her up.
Here is the actual review; this was a very realistic recording backed up by the setting of Giant Country and the eerie music backs up the tensity of certain scenes - especially when the Bloodbottler interrogates the BFG (played wonderfully by Bernard Cribbins). You can literally feel the anxiety and tensity of being in a place full of evil giants and wonder if you are feeling exactly how Sophie felt. A beautiful adaptation. While the Puffin adaptation is also faithful I think this has a more realistic touch in a good way, since The BFG, next to The Witches, is a very nerve-wracking tale, yet a beautiful tale about friendship and teamwork.
Bernard Cribbins Is Best Known As The Voices Of Orinoco And Bungo And Tomsk And Wellington And Great Uncle Bulgaria From The Wombles The Original Series In 1973. Thanks A Lot Mate. X
This version features Carole Boyd as the Queen the same person who did all the female voices in Postman Pat and Bernard cribbins the guy who played All The Wombles and the narrator being John Baddeley the same guy who did various voices on Tugs
This is by far the best adaptation of the book. The music, Bernard's fantastic interpretation of the BFG, even the other giants. Steven Spielberg's version has nothing on this
God, i love you! Like others here this was the cassette i grew up on. Its impossible to find these productions online anywhere. You made another grown kid happy. Thanks a lot!
That's great to hear. It's people like you and the others who are the reason I started this archive in the first place, so I am glad you are all managing to find it!
@@FloralShoppingCard I have Glass Elevator here: ua-cam.com/video/5wfgUw4o3bA/v-deo.html. Even though it is a Rainbow cassette, it should be exactly the same as the version included in the Theatre Collection Series. Hopefully it is the one you are after, MG
@@TheMonkeyGrinder You might be correct but i remember the music differently? If that makes sense. But the voice might be the same...sooooo long ago. Nonetheless, i love it :)
thankyou! thankyou! thankyou! i used to have the cassette of this as a kid. i was devastated when it got lost when we moved from Wales to Australia. thankyou so much for uploading this
The music is credited to D B Studios, but whether that was an individual or a sort of music sourcing agency, or library, I am not sure. I realise that's not very helpful!
Hi. I don't actually make these myself. They are old recordings from the 1980s. There is a Charlie and the Chocolate factory on this channel, if you scroll down the video list you will find it. MG

I’m with you here. Only just crossed my mind to search for it on here. I can’t describe the feeling.

OMG i remember hearing this audio book version at school when i was 8. Nice to hear it again. But boy is some of the music scary...
The late, great Mr Bernard Cribbins OBE Thanks for the entertainment old chap 👏 ❤ 😊
These were from my childhood back in the day when cassette tapes were around, so happy they've been put on UA-cam, thank you

Wow, I remember this from primary school! Awsome version, great voice work! Thanx for uploading!!!
YES!!! I've been waiting to find this version again for years. :D That brief but brilliant theme tune at the start!
The ending piece of music. So triumphant and nostalgic 🥰
Good for my kid at night for her to listen to thank you so much 💖🙏
I don't understand why BFG thinks that Sophie is not clever for not knowing that Panama have hats.
same
Carole Boyd uses her Miss Hubbard voice from Postman Pat to voice the Queen
John Baddeley Is Best Known As The Voice Of Top Hat The Railway Tug From Tugs The Original Series In 1989. Awesome. Thanks Mate. X
Yes!!!
I've been looking for 20 years for this!!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Fun fact the late Edward Kelsey who adapted this this audiobook actually did voice one of the army Generals in the Cosgrove Hall movie of The BFG
Oh wow
I love the extended outro theme, brings back happy memories. Thanks for uploading ☺
I love the outro theme, too. It reminds me of something from an 80s or early-90s action-packed drama TV series. Where can I find it?
Been trying to find this for years, it was one of my favourite story tapes as a kid. Monkey Grinder you are a legend :)
Thank you so much for uploading this, I have been searching for it for years. I had given up hope at one point. Thank you!! Just need to see if they have a pure soundtrack of the music :D
Same to all of that!
Omg, I had this on tape till I lost it on holiday aged 8! I finally found this 30 years later! It sounds exactly as I remember it!
Used to love this book as a kid. This is the best dramatization of the bfg. I wish they'd make an 8ft tall plush bfg
I love it so much
I love it it is just very nice when I listen to it makes me want to sleep monkey grinder your a legend;)
Same it is a good story although it is for children adults can listen to it too I love the story soo much❤

I had this version on audio cassette when I was a little kid, and could never find an online version. Thank you for the memories!
me too!
What’s a cassette?

Yes! Used to fall asleep to this. So much atmosphere, the synth music is awesome. I think I might prefer this to the first film.
Well... This is the sound of my childhood 😂 Thank you so much for sharing!
Can't believe i finally found this version online after all these years. Many thanks
Brilliant! Glad you've found it now.
RIP Bernard Cribbins
Can't wait to start listening. Carole Boyd also played the Queen in the Puffin adaptation.
I know her best for doing all the female voices in season 2 of Postman Pat and it's pretty funny as Carole uses her Miss Hubbard voice for the Queen
This is just in; Bernard Cribbins has passed away. 😔
For anyone here looking for whizzpoppers, they're at 39:10
MONKEY GRINDER YOUR A LEGAND;)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
Cool
Well done 👍
I think the Bloodbottler is voiced by Gordon Fairclough, aka the voice of Willy Wonka.
may i please have your permission to download this
I wonder who composed the end theme. It's great!

Someone needs to update Bernard Cribbins' wiki. I was just there and didn't see this mentioned.
