Just so you know, and by reading the comments on your uploads I'm not alone in thinking this, you are the single most valuable youtuber that has ever existed. Thank you a million times.
This is such a lovely comment, it made me a bit emotional. This is my husbands channel and he's a very humble man, who has taken so much pride in digitising these. I'm very proud of him, for making so many people happy :)
I can very much confirm This comment! This is such a wonderful discovery- I’ve been trying to track this recording down. I love his voice the story and the nature sounds. Makes my heart sing. I even tracked down the actor and messaged him on twitter! Thank you thank you!
Oh. My. God. Thank you thank you thank you. I have been thinking about this for years. I’m a 35 year old man and I’ve just sobbed listening to this. The nostalgia. The memories. The gorgeous and magical story and at the root of it the unconditional love between father and son.
This is certainly dahl's most underrated work it's amazing! At 33 years young this story is the one I have the most emotional attachment to of all literature I absorbed as a kid. Maybe because of my situation at the time of reading but nonetheless fantastic
Amazing! I listened to this version on tape over and over when I was a kid, absolutely loved it. Thank you so much, been looking for this particular version for a long time, really like the voice acting and narration
I used to listen to ''danny the champion of the workd' on audiobook cassete aswel. I used to lay in my room at my grandma and grandads each nite and they used to bring me up a cup of tea and biscuits on a tray
i had this tape cassette when i was a young man, listened to it every night to get to sleep. the antics of Danny's father and his exploits against mr hazel were probably my first exposure to the concept of 'good trouble' and likely shaped my politics as an adult. great stuff
my sister and i had bedrooms on opposite ends of the landing and we used to listen to this on a cassette player in the middle to go to sleep - we had to take it in turns to go and turn it over half way through! thanks for the nostalgia trip!
I absolutely loved this story tape when I was younger - my Grandad reminded me of Danny's father - he was an engineer who used to make things for us - once he made a to scale model of a working steam engine for us to play with. 30 years later I'm a design engineer too. Also best theme tune ever.
This is the version i have been looking for for years. Rented from the library, copied and was my personal favourite audiobook. Cannot beat it in my opinion. Thanks so much!!
I'm 58, I've always wanted to read/hear this through..I can honestly say it was truly wonderful i think I'm also extremely fortunate to have heard to on this version
Absolute legend this brings me back 20 years to my childhood I’ve been looking for this version of cassette. As sad as it sounds if i have trouble sleeping I stick this on and bam I’m asleep.
I am the same. If I can't settle, I put The Sea of Adventure on and because I am so familiar with it I am usually asleep before the intro has finished.
Just finished listening to this book. Enjoyed a couple of cosy dark nights with the kids wrapped up in blankets on the bed. Just like the old days, no T.V just an audio book and your imagination for entertainment. Thanks once again. :)
Absolute legend!! Been looking for this for my 5 year old for ages. Wanted this version as its the same one I used to listen to. Got the cassette but its 30 years old now. Thanks
I used to listen to this most nights as a kid, it was one of my faves. But my absolute favourite was the George's Marvellous Medicine (adapted by Edward Kelsey) version and I can't find it anywhere! I now ready George's Marvellous Medicine to my own children and know all the words to the book because of that cassette tape. Id love to hear it again :(
Hiya. Try this one on my channel... ua-cam.com/video/5KHv0U9U79o/v-deo.html It has a different cover, but I think it is the same recording as the old rainbow tape. If the link doesnt work, go to the videos tab on the channel and scroll down until it comes up. Hope it's the one you remember!
No, this isn't the same ine :( i did see this one and instantly pressed play. But it definitely isn't the right one. This one is Edward Phillips and the one i used to listen to was asapted by Edward Kelsey
That's a shame. Sorry :( That's got me a bit stumped because I have never seen an Edward Kelsey version of that story. Will keep an eye out just in case.
I had a lot of these Roald Dahl dramatisations on cassette as a kid, but never had this one. I read the book obviously, and it's my favorite story of his, and I think this is probably the best dramatisation of his books too. Really enjoyed listening with my kids at bedtime over the last few nights. Thanks, as always, for the upload!
I’m so grateful for this!! There’s an old Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe cassette I used to listen to, it was a dramatisation like this and I cannot find it anywhere! If you have access to it please upload it :)
Remember listening to this on cassette when I was a kid. Used to listen to this over and over again and read the book numerous times as well. Could never get bored or tired of reading/listening to this...it is my all time favourite book. Got the audiobook from Google books, but it doesn't beat this version by the Theatre Collection. Thank you so much for finding this and uploading it as well. Really appreciate you doing this. Been looking for it for ages. Must to listen to the others at some point. Love the Narration & Voice Acting. Imagination goes wild listening to this. How did you find these please???
Hi there. Glad you are enjoying it, it is an awesome story. After many weeks of looking, I found the danny tape on ebay. Other than the few tapes I still had from my childhood, I have been scouring ebay for the last 8 months and have bought all of the other tapes throughout the year. It's turned into an expensive hobby, but it's definitely worth it just to get all these dramatisations archived in one place. Thanks for listening, MG.
@@TheMonkeyGrinder is our Champion of the world! If you hadn't done all this, this version would of still been a memory of the early 90s. I had been looking for it for so long also, but I couldn't find a thing due to thinking Danny's Father was voiced by Richard Briers from my memory's ear. Ive already said this in another comment, but thank you. Listening to this with my little lad when he's a little older, so please keep the channel up as this made my 2020
This was amazing to listen to, I remember listening to these when I was younger over and over. Does anyone have a copy of fantastic mr Fox from the same type. The theatre collection version from Harper Collins in 1990 I think read by Nigel pegram. It would be great to hear it again.
I think the theatre collection Fantastic Mr Fox might be the same as the Rainbow version, which I have on this channel. I am sure Nigel Pegram narrates it. ua-cam.com/video/Ttu8_UcoWM0/v-deo.html
This is a really great channel, thank you for taking the time to do this. So many good memories from my childhood! If you ever come across alfie the railway cat or krindkecrax (I think that's the spelling) please consider digitising them 😁
So I heard that this is from a tape. So when I heard that I tried to Shazam part of it to see if I could get it digitally on iTunes. I was furious when I saw that I couldn't.
Great work man, this version is such a good listen. Have you by any chance also got The BFG (also by the Theatre Collection), because I loved listening to that on cassette many times when I was little. Many thanks sir.
Thanks Joseph. Yes, I am on the lookout for more of this series as it has really grown on me. The BFG is on my shopping list :) I think Bernard Cribbins narrates that one.
@@TheMonkeyGrinder you don’t by any chance have The Island of Adventure narrated by Bernard Cribbins? The Castle of Adventure is on here but I long to listen to the one I had as a child. It’s unabridged :)
Even though this is my least favourite Roald Dahl story (I like the plot and characters and Danny's relationship with his father), this was a wonderful adaptation and somehow it involved more than what the Puffin version did, like the bit with the eye-smile and Doc Spencer's revenge on Victor Hazell for assaulting his dog. Andrew Read was wonderful as Danny and completely different from the Boy in The Witches, demonstrating his talent. I especially Michael Williams' portrayal as his father and Richard Pascoe has a beautiful narrative tone. My only criticism is the casting printed. Mrs. Clipstone is obviously a female, so she should be credited at least. I think my favourite thing of the whole dramatisation is the music, it gives the feeling of the character being prideful of his title as champion of the world. Splendid adaptation.
been looking for this version for ages! use to listen to it when i was a kid, where did you find it? thanks for uploading seem like alot of people have been looking for this particular one
Forget the current batch of badly written woke books, if a child is served a diet of Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl and Lewis Carroll, they will return to these stories as adults and smile upon the fact that as kids they were surrounded by wise grown-ups who chose the infinite imagination over finite ideologies.
I loved being a child in the 1980s. I grew up on Roald Dahl, Dr Seuss and John Cooper Clarke among other things. I definitely have my parents to thank for surrounding me with such a variety of material.
"Adapted" is used in the same way as "dramatised" on a lot of these recordings. So it means the person who abridged the story down to the required timeframe and turned it into a radioplay format, including what sound effects/music cues would be used and perhaps how many cast members would be needed.

I listen to it as background noise to help myself nod off, but usually end up having to turn it off because I'm actually listening to it 😂
Danny's Dad, superbly brought to life by Michael Williams. He has a lovely warm voice for the role.
