So glad I've found this after all these years, so atmospheric this adaptation
Another classic tape that I used to listen to as a kid.
Starring:

Aunt Spiker _ Francis Jeater

Same here! Never thought I’d find it! And the fantastic mr fox
Just the best 🎉
I love the earth worm! Hilarious! Except the 'how can I see if I'm blind?' I'm blind myself and we... don't do that, well not unless we're being deliberately awkward... which I guess earthworm is so... I'll give him a pass haha.
I've been searching for 20 years.I ❤ you 😊😊
The voice of the worm 👌
this is such an amazing version! tops all the others
"...dramatised by Edward Phillips".

Same, awesome to find on UA-cam, my kids have loved listening to all these stories.
This is amazing. Thank you for uploading!! Best audiobook version by a million miles.
No worries, glad you enjoyed it :)
I still remember my fourth Christmas. There was me, having just opened my brand new bright red Panasonic walkman, and my
brand new copy of this audio drama, the one with the huge great peach on the cover.
It was my first encounter with both the book (which I later read in full), and the sorcerer's apprentice (which my mum recognised as the theme tune).
I don't believe that now, over 30 years later, I get to hear this again!
thanks for the upload!
I’ve been searching for this exact copy also. Thank you

wow and cool
Anyone else used to listen to The Three Investigators ???
Me! Although I only had Stuttering Parrot.
@@TheMonkeyGrinder I only had that one and The Secret of Terror Castle (Which was the best one). Not sure they made anymore to tell the truth. Great memories!
? ? ?
Omg and this version of James and the Giant Peach aswell?!
Nigel Pegram is a very good storyteller.
So here's a question. The Minpins. I know there are at least two versions from the 90s of audiobooks: One which has just narration, sound effects and Schostakovich music, and the other that has a full cast including Joss Ackland. Any chance those might be popping up on here?
I have put it on my list of ones to look out for, so will see if it crops up.
Oh man, the former version of The Minpins is fantastic, had it on tape and so hoping it crops up!
@@careybernitz5316 I remember it scared me a lot as a kid. Those sound effects for the Gruncher were the stuff of nightmares.
Why does the centipede sound so different? I thought he would sound like he had been from Brooklyn.
Anyone know the names of the cast members in this production?
Sorry for the mistakes
Who is the voice actress for James? She reminded me of the woman in a wheelchair on Elderado as a kid lol
As far as I am aware it is Maggie Peacock, who also does the voice of the young fox in Fantastic Mr Fox.

This is a tricky review this time. A faithful adaptation, but I'm not sure if the Sorcerer's Apprentice theme works; it lacks the emphasis the story tells; adventuring with unusual but loyal friends and learning courage and self-belief. I thought James was lazily voiced; the actress sounds too boring and robotic, she lacks inflection on her lines. I also thought the Old Man and the Grasshopper's voices were quite annoying what with the former's occasional popping his lips between lines and the latter's deliveries kept sounding like he was hiccuping between takes, sounding too much like Goofy when he laughs. The other insects, especially the aunts, were voiced well. The narration was believable, but all in all I think they should have had an actual child to voice James, that way it would have sounded more realistic. I apologise for the negative review, but these are my thoughts on it. Again, there are several pieces I like - the ones I previously mentioned and the setting of the ocean and New York.
Are you sure James is being played by a woman? I was under the impression it was a child, and hence the stilted delivery. Funny how different things hit different people, I liked the old man's voice haha. Same fellah was Grandpa Joe in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
@@dan4lau Yeah, there is a site with the list of the tapes where it says James is played by Maggie Peacock.
Yes I recognised the Old Man as Grandpa Joe, he's a good actor in fairness I just found his popping annoying.
@@foxteen8721 Ah... surprising then that he sounds so robotic... James I mean. I think the popping thing is a marmite thing, love it or hate it heh. Funny thing, I'm sure I recognize the Grandpa Joe actor from somewhere else as well, but can't place him.
@@dan4lau Yes, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Yes it's certain to be him. Forgot his name though, but he is on the cast list of the tape video on this page.
What I don't understand is why the rhino ate James' parents sure I know rhinos can kill people but they are herbivores so they don't eat whatever they kill
I always wonder that as well strange choice of animal
I suppose because it's wacky and ridiculous, which was Roald Dahl's speciality!
Sorry I was supposed to do subscriber's. 😊
I'm a little concerned about you 😢😢😢😢😢
Huh? 🤨
