    That is an oil-based biscuit from the look of it (maybe melted butter or oil) as opposed to a cold-butter flaky, layered biscuit. You're right that it's more like a roll, because it basically is. American biscuits usually never have sugar in them.

    • @loboheeler
      @loboheeler 2 роки тому +3

      Yep, those are too soft to be real Southern biscuits. There are different ways to make biscuits. The traditional way is to hand form in a bowl of flour and a puddle of liquid. which is labor intensive. Usual method is to roll flat and cut out. The easiest way is to "drop" the mixed dough from a large spoon onto the baking pan, which may be how scones are made from looking at their shape.

    • @firstenforemost
      @firstenforemost 2 роки тому +2

      @@loboheeler I don't find making flaky, layered biscuits to be labor intensive. In fact, they only take a few minutes to make. Almost no mixing, short baking time. Cutting in the butter can take a few minutes. Drop biscuits are different as well, and the fastest to make, and they don't look like those either. Easiest way to make drop biscuits is with Bisquick. I looked around and what they bought look like "angel biscuits" which are yeasted biscuits that are made with softened butter cut in and allowed to rise.

    16:00 - Baking soda absorbs odors. They've been recommending putting an open box in the fridge since the 1940's (if your fridge has odor). It has all sorts of uses.
    If you stain a ceramic plate, say with blueberries, putting some baking soda on it, getting it wet, and letting it sit for a few hours will take care of it.

    I LOOOOOOOOVE the Loveless Cafe. 😍 I live in Colorado and every time I’ve been to Nashville, my hubby and I make it a point to go there. I actually got to meet Carol Faye, aka “The Biscuit Lady” before she passed away (so sad! 🥺♥️👩🏽‍🦱) and she was precious. She had been on several TV morning news and late night talk shows and I had asked her who her favorite was and she said that Conan O’Brien was the nicest guy (btw his podcasts are hilarious). The last time we were at Loveless, it was November of 2018 and they had this awesome peanut and cream pie on a chocolate crust. It was TO DIE FOR!!!!! 🥧🤤 I encourage anyone to check it out, but be forewarned that you’ll need a car to get there since it is a bit far from the city center (17 miles/27km SW). Love you Joel & Lia! xoxo Christine from snowy Colorado, USA ☃️

    Definitely looks more like a dinner roll than a biscuit. We know what jam is. Jelly is your jam (made of juice only). Jam has fruit mashed in it. Preserves has chunks of fruit in it. We will often use the terms interchangeably which is why she probably looked confused. "Do these Brits not understand that we are talking about the same food?" Just my guess. It would be like some asking if you talked to your dad and you responded with " you mean my father?" We'd wonder why you bothered to clarify.
    I used to think that biscuits were like scones until I went to England and had a few there. I have now come to realize that they are completely different foods. Not even the same ingredients. But both are awesome!

As others have pointed out, ‘jam’ is not a generic term as apparently used in the UK area. It describes a particular form of fruit spread. Always fun to watch foreigners describe food we take for granted. Just like y’all chuckle at us when we’re in your country trying to eat something. Imagine when we asked if they had biscuits at breakfast. The look we got from the waitress was one of complete bafflement. Lots of fun.

    I always add a little butter 🧈 and then strawberry 🍓 jelly - jam to the biscuits. It’s a good combo. They looked so light and fluffy! Looks like you had a great time! That bbq place I’m sure is great! 🍗 How did you guys like the cookies and bbq?

    in America, Jam is berry preserves with the seeds in it. Jelly is preserves without seeds. Preserves usually refer to stone fruits.

      No, seeds aren't what define jam vs. jelly, or preserves. Preserves isn't "usually" about stone fruits. The difference between each is about the consistency and whether or not gelatin is used, and how much of the whole fruit is used. Jam and preserves don't have to have seeds in them.

    The "water thing" is a fire hydrant...it's what fire fighters hook their hoses to to put out fires.

    I do love the 12 South neighborhood but I don't have a million dollars to buy a house there, ha. Draper james is Reece Witherspoon's shop. I love Christie cookies and Edley's BBQ. Next time you come, you should try a donut from Five Daughters.

    Funny what you called a "Bum Bag" we call a "Fanny Pack." Did you guys go to the Ryman Theater, which was the home of the Grand Ole Opry, sort of the birthplace of country music.
