This is probably my favorite video I've ever made... I hope the graphics made you pay attention and learn something because they took FFFKING forever to edit! 😂
Holly... I can see why it’s your favorite video. Hands down, this must be the best drum notation video ever made! I wish I saw it when I just started learning reading notes, absolutely epic introduction. The graphics and the way you talked about it is absolutely sick! I agree with points you made there 100%. I started learning drums half a year ago and reading was one of the first things Í’ve decided that I want to learn. It’s actually suprisingly easy to get into and the payoff in learning has been immense! I’m still an absolute beginner, but being able to read and also write my own charts is super handy for learning both drum patterns (grooves/fills) and whole songs. Also, gonna make everyone in band watch this, because people get confused everytime I mention “bars”. :D Very underrated channel, keep pumping this gold quality content, man!
Yeah man.... So many time to explain and do it a fun way. I had checked to Stephen Clarks(A.K.A "The Non Glamorous Drummer") video on Drum Notations . Folk who might have trouble understanding this video slow check out his video too. ...But coming to Brendan's video ,woh this information and animation were freaking nuts. I loved the video man. Crisp and sound answers no beating around the bush! . He must have had insane amounts of retakes (or atleast I would ,if I was recording 😅😅). Great job Brendan😎😎.

just dropping by to kiss your feet. what you've just made is a timeless monumental video for the teaching world that people will reference for decades to come. Everything was put together so cohesively and you really made things so easy to understand that I'm sure even someone with minimal / no musical experience would be able to pick up on. kudos to you dude.
As a teacher, this is probably THE best condensed vid for fundamentals on drum notation right now! This should be in every drum studio lol. Annndddd this is your best edited vid-by far!! I think you've found the formula aesthetic-wise for your brand. Kudos!
I’m in my junior year in college and like to thing I can read pretty well. I’m comfortable with my musical abilities for where I am and what I’m doing. Idk why I’m watching this. This is simply entertaining
Wow, nice result. This piece probably took forever to edit, but it definitely helps keeping the attention of the viewer, as well as making learning fun. It is proven that knowledge obtained through playful means trains the brain in the long run to associate learning with positive emotions, and makes the brain want to learn new things there where there is fun. Which means you have just got yourself another returning customer. Time you put in this video is time well spent. I am 49y old, and recently I started playing drums in a band, for the first time in my life. Never played drums in a band before, mostly did the singing or bass. Now, I have to learn all there is to be learned about drums from scratch. After a couple of rehearsals, I realized that my brain at my age is not too eager about remembering grooves and parts of songs to the letter even after hours and hours of listening to the same song. So, I realized I have to learn how to make myself some drumming cheat sheets. I'm so glad I bumped into your channel. I've also seen the other video you made about transcribing songs quickly when there is not a lot of time given to absorb a set list of 20 or 30 songs overnight. Loved the video. But the sample song you picked was very simple. Do you have a video that builds on that one and also shows a way to write down songs that are a bit more complex?
I already knew all of this but you made this totally worth watching even for me! Great fucking job. This is the best and one of the most creative videos I’ve seen in a long time.
One of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam about the approach to creativity in general. Had I understood the value of music theory earlier in my career I would have avoided much time wasting and frustration. My philosophy - absorb as much knowledge aa you can, then apply it as often as you can.
This is such a fantastic video. As a self taught drummer playing nearly 14 years. This is the best explanation of notation and what I feel like is already in my head and when I play. So happy I found this page!
Man that bass drum is so freakin mean. I've shared this everywhere I can on social media. Been following you about a year now and you're fantastic. Cheers mate!
Even as a person who doesnt play drums or anything rock/ garage band etc, this helps had no idea that the bass and kick/bass drum were in sync, thanks!
You made me very proud of myself. I thought I knew almost nothing about drum notation but I already knew everything you covered except for dotted notes. I have a real hard time with those.
Your editing definitely makes your videos unique, entertaining and very cool man. What is probably a typical and overdone topic, you've managed to make fresh and enjoyable. Nice job!
this video is pure GOLD. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a such simple yet beautiful way. Oh, and kudos for the amazing editing. Much respect from Brazil.
I started played drums when I was 11, then quit altogether for 30 years or more, when I started playing again I used the drumming for dummies book , it actually worked.
As a pure beginner I can tell you it's helping a lot! I just bought an electronic drumset because I always wanted to be a drummer and I am completely lost, but this video helped me to understand a little bit more what I want to do. And god it's hard to learn without a teacher 😭😂
holy shit, been playing for almost 2 years, never dove into technicalities and stuff (idek how to play with metronome lol) This vid definitely helped me get into those, thanks!
Thanks so much for your understandable explanation of this drum notations for beginners. Please do more on this. I appreciate your hard work. More power to you. Have a nice day.
Thanks to my old music teacher who taught me on how to read music notations, starting on drums was quite easy. Sadly my motor skills need to catch up lol.
Being playing the drums for about 10 years for now, and never had the patience or concentration to learn drum notoaitons.. But Brandon, I really think I get now, thanks to you, so thank you for a kick ass video and great editng!🤘🏼
Brandon. I’m 52 yo. Self taught. Been playing for 5-6 years at church. Not the best drummer but I complete the set. I’ve been looking for a “Roadmap” for all the different songs we play. (When to come in. What to come in with). Your teaching techniques are great. You broke down time signature where I finally understand time signature. Your a great teacher. I can build on this. Any other techniques or tools would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Dude that was so sick! I’m pretty good at reading and can sight read the complexist of charts. But I stayed for the editing :D and I’m definitely gonna use this for my students as a reference

Yeah, editing and graphics are phenomenal! Also: What is that song at the end????
Your editing is top notch
It really is. On top of the fact that I learned a whole lot about drums in this video. 10/10. Makes me wanna start my own vids and edits with piano.
Yeah it’s so good. I do some editing myself and he does it so smoothly, and creatively. Inspiring me for that and drumming haha
