The director mentioned that the significance of this dish was to portray that regardless of class, wealthy or poor, children want to eat instant noodles because it just tastes good. Kids that young do not know or discriminate certain kinds of foods based on what is considered for the "elite" or for the average consumers. But the Park family add high-quality beef to what is considered "cheap" instant noodles to make it more suitable to their class level. Director Bong is a genius!
Ahhh I thought the reason for the dish was because the rich family gets the choice to eat Instant Ramen while the poor would have no choice to elevate their meals. It's cool how many different interpretations you can get from the each scene in the movie, Bong Joonho is genius like you said!
I tought that the point was that most people would cringe at dish which mixes pricey beef with cheep junk food. Its like how classes dont mix together in capitalist society

Premium Korean beef (expensive) = Rich Park family
Neoguri (soup based spicy noodles) = Semi-basement family (flooded) - Kim family with their semi-basement submerged from heavy rain
Chapagetti (black bean noodles, dark colored and no water) = Basement family - Original Housekeeper and husband
However, while this is a good theory, I don't think it's what the director had intended. Ram-don, also known as Jjapaguri, has actually been around in Korea for several years now:

It's not like the director came up with this originality in order to show the metaphor of each symbolizing the families. It was an extremely popular noodle combination at the time it was being spread through the internet, and sort of died down. But still, it's a cool observation and that is the beauty of this film (Parasite) with so many different layers and each can be interpreted in different ways.

There are many times late at night when I can’t sleep because I have a lot of scary thoughts before bed (worrying about bills, my job, having a bad mental night, and sometimes just silly stuff like I read a article about cadavers and now I’m scared @ 2:23 AM lol), but Maangchi helps me calm down so much at night that I fall asleep quickly. She’s so comforting and is like the caring, sweet mother I never got. I hope all is good for her right now.

Tried this on Saturday and I finished the entire dish.. 😂 The Beef made all the difference.. 🤤👌🏻 I used Olive oil to cook the beef and added butter AND GARLIC at the end to make a kind of baste for the beef. I toasted the bottom of a sunny-side egg and added sesame seeds on top.. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! ❤️ Definitely gonna make this again! 💯

The husband himself is actually similar to the north koreans stuck in North Korea, but they don't realize it and they find no problem with their environment because it is all they lived to hear and see. He himself lives like a parasite underground, and everyday salutes Mr. Park for providing him with his food and safety, just like how north koreans are made to believe the Kim leaders are their god. There is great significance in the scene because of his obliviousness to his reality.

Apparently its supposed to satire by showing damages incurred from mass media companies!

Me, too. :-) Made it last night for dinner. Very easy and delicious and so fast. Super customizable, too. Add some onions or mushrooms or celery, sprinkle leftover grated Parmesan cheese. It was another level goodness.

That scene in the movie was so amazing because those noodles are so readily available for anybody (also often considered a poor person's food) and then the high quality expensive meat chopped in there (that's supposed to be a dish on its own).. showing how different the rich and the poor live... congrats to winning 4 Oscars last night! and hey I gotta try this soon

I first learned about the combination of these two noodles from the Korean reality show "Dad, where are we going?". The boy Yoon Hoo seems to love this instant noodle thing sooo much and his eager eating scenes made it look soooo delicious, and I HAD TO go to the Korean grocery store for like the first time to find these noodles and make it myself lololol
My favourite movie of all time. I'm definitely going to make this if I find those noodels here in Finland.
