    As a dad I love hearing all the details, but know this will be really helpful for all musical theatre students.

    i’m typing this as i am watching your video so i’m not sure if you answered this but i was wondering, what made you choose steinhardt over tisch? from my understanding, steinhardt focuses more on music while tisch is more evenly focused on acting, music, and dance, is this a correct assumption from what you’ve seen so far? i’m just curious as to how the musical theatre majors differ between schools. love the video btw!

      Thank you!! So I choose Steinhardt because it has an emphasis on music and singing is my favorite aspect of musical theatre. Tisch only has 30 minute voice lessons a week which in my experience of having 30 minute voice lessons - it's not nearly enough to work on something. Tisch also doesn't weigh the three aspects of musical theatre equally, it has an emphasis on acting and Steinhardt has an emphasis on singing. If you watch my NYU audition video I talk briefly about the differences. Hope this helps!!

    Hi! From what I understand, Steinhardt is more music focused and Tisch is more acting focused, but as far as dancing goes, would you say the dancing at both schools is equally emphasized & rigorous or does one school work on dancing more? I am definitely strongest as a dancer, then singer then actor, so I was hoping to get more information about that before auditioning :)

      From what I know I would say they’re probably about even. My program has one type of dance per semester but you can always take more! I’ve never taken less than two different types of dance a semester. I like that the steinhardt dance classes are difficult enough that you are always getting something out of it no matter your level which is why i’ve gladly retaken dance classes! One of my friends who was a dancer first would go to as many of the dance classes as she could fit in so 100% can get a lot of dance practice in if you want!

    My daughter is really interested in this program versus the Tisch MT program, but she has been taking dance (ballet, jazz, tap) regularly since she was eight years old and is probably more of a high intermediate dancer. Were there any students in your program like that, who might feel that the intro dance classes were not advanced enough for them?

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  2 роки тому

      Hello!! There are required dance classes for the major, so ballet 1 and 2 may be easier for her but they are fast paced classes. I would say other than that they should be good for her! And some people have also taken an additional intermediate ballet class. We have people who are very strong dancers but most of the classes accommodate for them and they’re able to still learn. Also if you or your daughter would like to chat more feel free to DM me on Instagram (@madison_halla) and I’d be happy to answer any more questions you may have!

    Which program has more of an equal balance between acting and singing?

  • @lenamintyoreo

    This was an extremely helpful video! Thank you so much. I couldn't find that much information about the contemporary music concentration. How much does it differ from the Musical Theater concentration? Do both concentrations take similar classes?

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  2 роки тому +2

      Great question! In my program, the contemporary and musical theatre students take the same classes for the first three semesters (except contemporary students take songwriting history instead of what MT students take third semester). They do this because it's a hybrid program but contemporary students have some opportunities outside of class to perform. Starting the second semester of sophomore year (fourth semester) we all break out and contemporary students get more classes that are just for them and the musical theatre class sizes shrink. But we do still have some classes together next semester like our acting class and theory and aural comp, for example.

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  2 роки тому

      @@lenamintyoreo Yes! And several do! You have to audition in front of the faculty (the same that run the real audition I think) and then you switch over, and I don't think it's difficult to be accepted to switch because they already know you.

      @MadisonHalla  2 роки тому +1

      @@bethpearson4422 I’m not sure because I don’t know the classes Tisch Musical Theatre students take. At Steinhardt we take four semesters of theory and four semesters or aural comprehension (which is sight singing and melodic dictations). You also take two semesters of basic musicianship if you have no prior theory training. We also take two semesters of keyboard as we take theory I&2 and aural comprehension 1&2.

    is it possible to double major?

    • @MadisonHalla
      @MadisonHalla  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately I don't know much about it but I know it depends on what you want your second major to be and it can be very difficult because the MT major has so many classes per semester.
