If you can't do that, you can always try out technical theater. It's the people backstage but it's still fun and you play a key part (without the audience looking at you to make sure you don't screw up.)
Osiel Escalante I don’t but I took lessons hard-core and I had a lot of fun plus I improved. If you really want to be in a musical maybe take lessons.

It's great when mid show someone forgot to preset their costume change... and as the costume manager it's your responsibility to run and get it or find a replacement in .2 seconds

If you really want to be in a musical, practice! You can teach yourself to sing. I know a girl at my community theater who couldn't sing when she was really young, but she taught herself and she's really good now. Dont give up, I myself can't dance, but I still do musical theater anyway!

Ensemble is great if your a decent dancer. You sing In a group so there's less focus on your vocals, but it's still an awesome time
This makes me miss theater, I’ve been both on the stage and the stage hands and I had so much fun. Also the level and budget of this is amazing.

Hair is probably my favorite musical now. A few weeks ago, I saw my friend's high school perform it, and I loved it. It was the first musical I saw without knowing much about it or listening to any of the songs, and it was just so outstanding. all the songs are bops
I wish my theatre group had access to such a great stage. Literally ours is so tiny it gets very crowded...
And also highkey wished I got along with my cast that well because I’ve already gotten super duper mad with someone I have to interact with onstage and I want to smack these few people just because they think that since they’re obscured from a massive chunk of the audience by a tall person they can just stop acting.
That is what we call third day syndrome in my school.

ImATrain123 yeah my stage is small too. We don’t have good sound systems. We don’t even get funding from the school (my school’s clubs don’t rly get funding except sports)
I did a collection of short skits with my friends, there was this one guy (alan, I will call you out I hate your guts) and it made doing scenes with him a nightmare, but I got to hit him with an umbrella while he wore a bucket on his head for a scene so it all worked out

/jane * you can still be JD even tho you're a girl. I'm a girl, I tried out for the main male lead at my school musical, and got it. So you still have a chance even if your gender doesn't match the character's, as long as you can act like the character

i remember coming home really late almost at midnight on a school night from rehearsal. it was tiring and stressful but after two months of rehearsals the work payed off!!! such a good experience to be in musical theater

Being in a musical is fun and games until there’s a malfunction during a show or the infamous tech week.
Kinda late but in one of our performances a curtain caught on fire.😂 I'm glad I wasn't on stage in that scene, it was scary enough backstage

As a theater kid, i can confirm this is indeed what being in a musical is like. But there is more....we also have the craziest inside jokes you can only understand if you were in the musical, the directors telling you to project onstage but when you are whispering in the wings you are "way too loud", extreme post-closing night depression and HONEY. (you get it if you're a theater kid). Also that magical feeling when your director accidentally says a word from the show and you all start singing and it sounds amazing even though there is no music and you're all just having fun. Man, I love being a theater kid

this is so accurate! this year is my third year of doing (musical) theater, and my high school is doing legally blonde! it’s a bit different this year, for me at least, because it’s my freshman year.

as a person who has been in MANY musicals, i can say that this video is freaking amazing and that theater people will forever be my favorite people
I'm not a theatre kid so I'm basically a complete stranger when it comes to this stuff. I went to my first broadway show today though and decided to look a bit into theatre. Honestly, I'd say that theatre kids are the most outgoing and confident group of people I've ever seen. It especially stands out to me because it's hard to tell whether each individuals are just hyperactive like that or if it's the setting that really brings forth that energy (I mean, if you're gonna be a musical actor, you gotta be willing to sing, dance and act in ways you normally wouldn't)
It's theaters, so there's no room for being too shy, not wanting to be too loud, not wanting to stand out too much.
Once again, I really know nothing about the actual experience of being in a musical but it honestly looks like something that could bring out the best in someone.
I'm watching like I haven't been in a musical before.........I have.
