Steve, do you agree that even though Audi's purchase costs is less, its ownership cost is far more than Lexus? Audi doesn't make as reliable cars as Lexus does. My friend bought a brand new Audi last year. He has visited the dealer three times because of mechanical problems! Good review as always.
Sure Lexus isn't as glamorous as German cars, but c'mon, the quality speaks for itself.
The hybrid version of the LS600L was not meant to be efficient. It was meant to compete with BMW’s and Mercedes’ V10s which were its major competitors at the time. The gas engine and the hybrid system together put enough output to compete with these large naturally aspirated v10s. And in real world fuel economy… it’s always better.
go to a lexus dealer and check the car out, feel the interior, test drive it then you'll get the answer...it actually blows away bmw7 and A8L, the new S-class is a bit better though
I would have the lexus with or without the hybrid stuff over the audi any day of the week, you absolutely know in the lexus any problems will be minimal if any unlike other brands, lexus goes the extra mile to make a well built car.
The LS FSport was quite the car. I enjoyed my week with it thoroughly.
the ls460l the wood trims were pained particularly and I absolute fall in love with the interior design
Great review once again. Your batting 1.000. Always spot on.
This is a beautiful car. Period.
Great review
Even those this is nice, it's not worth the price difference over a regular LS460, get a RWD standard LS460 and save 30 grand
Lukas I agree!
Steve, any plans for reviewing a Mercedes M class gas v6? Also, a very good, professional, and informative video.
The A8 TDI is more efficient but Lexus beats on craftsmanship, attention to detail and reliability/durability
Freaking beautiful inside and out.
I'd ask Lexus on that one. Remember, their hybrid crossover is the RX450h, and it's has a 3.0L V6 + the hybrid motor.
Where's the hybrid? It's faster, more powerful and 4wd. Maybe that and it being more economical on top is where the hybrid is?
Low speed and congestion, it is silent, the engine rest
3:30ish. You say e cvt is unpleasing in its sounds when driven with verve. Does the transmission itself make those sounds, or r u talking about the engine noise from he high rpm? Please clarify. Either way that is disappointing. I expect a luxury LS to be quiet and composed at all times.
This is probably because car reviewers are obsessed with hearing gears shift, and hate CVT's because they don't really shift. The LS is as quiet as a tomb, and in this class, it should be.
for that amount of money , I will go for Audi S8 in a heartbeat
Lexus should’ve offered the 5.0V8 as the F-Sport version
this car is really nice
wish i can afford one
2:02 - Whoa!
the price alone is enough to drive away potential buyers......
Yeah. Basically everyone has one. They're sooo practical and cheap.
:S
what's with the car maintenance indication?
I honestly don’t remember
I have an LS460, and it displays that message when you reach the mileage you set (in your infotainment) for servicing tires, oil change, etc.
Basically a reminder.
And you thought a hybrid would be a fuel sipper. Lexus used this hybrid powertrain more as a performer rather than fuel efficiency. It maybe more efficient than the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class, but those who can afford it are those who sit in the back seat behind their personal chauffeurs.
why did the put a cvt in the car
This Lexus is better than BMW 7 , or AUDI A8 .
I would never pay for it if I had the money
Yay!
it's getting Hot in here. Hey quit fiddlin' with that back there i got the A/C on.
They didn't make it a hybrid for better mpg but when u think of hybrid that's what first pops into you're mind but it was made to compete with the v12 and get better mpg then those and I think it does that quite well just lacking some power then an actual v12 they still did a great job. They almost would have sold more by not marketing it as a hybrid cbut calling it something else that gives more power better mpg lol!!! I think it would have worked I don't understand how u could drive this car and not get an adrenaline rush and a big smile on ur face cause this thing can haul ass!! Idk if u really tried pushing it in this car, it truly does have some nice power , if u drive crazy fast cars on the daily, It makes it harder to make a judgment. But u can't tell me it's not packing some tourqe power and cruzes triple digit all day long, and of course in a straight line it ain't designed for fast sharp turns but still does them quite smoothly. I've owned Honda's Chevy's, Toyota, supras, caddilacs and this was by far my favorite vehicle absolutely beautiful!!! But ya it's original msrp was insane but for prices u can get them for now! makes it a mind blowing deal and these cars compared to it's competition of the time bmw audi all those types do not hold up like these, especially reliability! Loved the review! I may subscribe!! I'm picky about my subs but really loving you're videos keep doing what ur doing !
niceee !
Why didn't they tune the 5 litre to GSF/ISF levels? What an unbelievably missed opportunity to show up the Germans.
This model of the LS is certainly pointless, but with a few body tweaks, the LS 460/460 F would easily become the best looking and performing car in its class, although, it already is the best from my perspective.
Is that the 5L IS-F v8?
Sebastian Rivas Yes But detuned
2013 audi s8 best!
it shits all over the audi A8 and bmw7
Its not exactly a new design.. more like a refresh on the fascias and interior. I cut the 2008 designed hybrid system a little slack.
the benz carries the S 350 - no clue about displacement.
no you dont. it would be nice but $240k a year is enough to own a $100k+ car through financing.
Can you do the 2014 Mercedes S-Class please
Drove it briefly but I'm waiting for my week-long loan.
Steve Hammes,
Scan you please answer my question: What do you mean by the CVT is unpleasing in its sounds when driven with verve. Does this car get noisy instead of remaining quiet and composed?
This was 4 years ago so you're testing my memory here, but I'm sure I meant the CVT moans (like most do) when you command more power. So yes, it gets noisy. CVTs are known for that.
Thank u for ur response. Yea, I'm good if I can remember what happened yesterday, let alone 4 years ago.
the marketing of this car has priced it wrong..i hope they are not following the past marketing plans because todays consumers are getting more for the money and this car price . just doesn't add up..despite the luxurious exterior and interior plus comfort..but as an invesment in the long run?! the gas option will be better then the hybrid..i wonder why they did even bother making it ?! because as a consumer when i hear hybrid i expected to be at least 30 MPG to 35 combined.
i would spend $120k on this if i made $240k a year. but since i dont id rather have a used 2010 S550.
I'd much prefer the normal LS 460 w/o all the electronic doo dahs and the complications that they bring and no I do not trust Audi reliability to be anywhere in the same ball park as Lexus. What is the point of a hybrid system with only 2 xtra mpg's ???
yes maybe so but it still better than Mercedes because it last longer and better tech.
Just like the $400000 LFA with 500 hp Toyota is crunching the wrong numbers here!!!
4:20 -- this hybrid has a less useful trunk than a Buick LaCrosse eAssist.
Lexus is the best but this ls is not for me ....I'm also a ls guy but this look is way too funky ...looks like a crossbreed of merecedes and BMW with audi
So you think the boring/ugly 7-Series that has been panned by critics ... or the bland S-Class that even has diehard Mercedes fans upset ... or worse, the vanilla, VW-looking A8... are somehow "special" to look at, especially compared to the beauty that is the LS??? LOL, have several seats, kid.
Nice review, however not impressed with the car itself, not at that price point. Lexus in my opinion has always been too bland, and this one isn't any different. At $127,000...meh, Hyundai makes a car now that can compete with this and it's $67,000 cheaper.
I can it just seems like a 3yr old wrote his sentence.
it has a 5 litre engine but why is it called an LS-600? shouldn't the numbers show the displacement?
5 litres gas power with E power then it is about 600
Does anyone else think the front of this lexus looks like the new Nissan Altima?
Agreed does not look special at all compared to S class, AUdi or BMW
over priced little mileage improvement. A way to go to rank with the germans.
Very wrong there....
I could NEVER justify buying this when there is the Audi S8... yes the S8... for just a few thousand more.
...back to your Hyundai, now.
Your thumbnail looks like you are kneeling next to a 10 year old (2003) Honda Accord or a mid 1990s Mazda 626, not a new $127k car.
I have no idea how they even sell a single one of these cars, the price is pure crackpipe.
how can you compare this to 7 series, A8 or S class??? lol
2:01
remind me of Mercedes 1999 S class
or a raptor and a gt500 :D
THE DASHBOARD WEARS IN 1 YRAR
Hyundai? lmao...gtfo..
have even seen the bad quality materials inside the hyundai, then compare it to a lexus LS..a single LS is built by 1500 persons..and the wood itself takes 38 days to be made...and you're saying a shitty hyundai is better..
Wait. They want to charge $127,555 with a Nickel-metal hydride battery? You can't even find NIMH Battery's in low end cell phones these days. There is no excuse for this car not to have a Lithium-ion battery. None at all.
Not worth it
Boy this car is pointless!
A8 over this any day of the week.
The new S class is in an entirely different league. Do you even english btw?
S class isn’t even close to this. And don’t get me started on reliability
130k for a car???...this is a house on wheels
Yup
for that money, I'd buy 2 Ford Raptors, but that's just me
BASE msrp is $120,000?? that's honestly hilarious. I have no idea who would pay that much for this car.
Shidddd I would
Never said Hyundai was better, and the Lexus is overpriced, plain and simple.
Rather have a Tesla
The new S class is way way way better than this.
But it also sits in auto shops far more.
