Watch the behind-the-scenes documentary on this film, listen to the commentary
from Tom Hanks, director Robert Zemeckis, as well as the crew members, and
you will see just how much time and hard work is needed to make a film like this.

If you think this is a fantastic story, please allow me to relate to you a real one. In 1704, a Scottish sailor named Alexander Selkirk, sailing on an English privateer, had a disagreement with his captain and told the captain that he didn't think the ship was seaworthy and asked to be put ashore on an island where they'd stopped off the coast of South America. The captain put him in a boat with two sailors who rowed him ashore with just a few supplies. He lived alone on the island for over four years before an English ship happened to stop at the island for wood and fresh water and found him. On the island were lots of goats and other animals, and a lot of plants, perhaps from ship wreaks in past years, so he had food to eat, although he had to chase it down. As a result of all the exercise he got from chasing the animals for food and climbing around the island, he was in remarkedly good shape when he was found. It's an interesting story and there's a book about his adventures. After he'd been back in England for a short period, he longed to be back on his island again but never made it back.

@@montanaelkwhisperer1744 ah yes, I forgot that we as humans are capable (on average) of swimming across the ocean. Whereas a forest fire is somewhat avoidable even escapable. But being stuck on an island hundreds even thousands of miles in the middle of the ocean? You’re fucked. Rip tide? Screwed. Predatory animals in the water? Screwed. And all you have to use is your arms and legs which will eventually, if not quickly, give out and you will grown. I agree with you that Fire and Water are the 2 worst things in our world to deal with, but the ocean… that’s a beast no man has it will conquer. Fire is manageable.

When she’s going to send the package. And when Hanks brings it back. The first time we see the sign it indicates she is married. When hanks brings the package at the end her husbands name is taken from off it. Intended to inform the audience she too is now single. So we were supposed to infer the two were brought together because of this tragedy. And obviously, the wings were symbolic in that she was his guardian angel even as much so as his girlfriend (Helen Hunt).
