0:11 Not-so-fun-fact: Hanks actually did cut himself doing this fire-making. At first the cut didn't look so bad, and Hanks thought that he can continue shooting on the island. But then the cut started to get worst and even looking infected that if he didn't receive medical attention soon, he'd died or probably lose his hand. So he was hospitalized for nearly a month, with lead to filming being rescheduled.

The scene where Hanks' character wakes up to the waves crashing into that large piece of outhouse. He goes out and is scared of it at first, but props it up and stares at the Easter Island face on that large panel. That face was telling him to get off the island and how he should do that. Cool scene. Like the volleyball face.
@@TheCrustyFry That's sea water though, it's incredibly risky to clean wounds with sea water because of the natural bacteria, especially in warm water.
There's a funny conclusion, that much of what we do as humans, are only because of other people. Either for them, or in fear of them. Sometimes that's our strongest motivation. Else we'd live like animals and never try harder. Wilson may have been a facsimile of a person, but it gave him the motivation to try again.
@@setasan water is much more difficult in tropical settings but what he should have done was open up as many coconuts as he could and make them containers and then used the life raft as a rain water catchment. You see him doing this finally on the raft during a rain storm when he left the island. He never attempted to catch rain water when he first landed on the island.
The only other option was to hollow out a log creating a bowl and boil sea water via stone boiling. He could have used the life raft to catch the steam created from the boiling process with opened coconuts. Much more difficult but still he had all the resources to do it.
@@dextercochran4916 then he could have used the raft as a rain water catchment?? Then he could have carved out a bowl in a log and stone boiled and rolled a straw and used that to drink??

BEST SCENE EVER, TOM HANKS IS SIMPLY THE BEST❤ and movie is important because i have worked with FedEx, TNT, DHL etc in the airport cargo terminal....and "Terminal" of Tom Hanks is aswell my fav movies.
The thing that cracks me up about this scene is that although he’s a very serious man with an extremely fast-paced career, he still has the tendency to act like a 10 year old at a campfire.

Great movie ... makes you think if you could survive in this situation ... what the Hank's character accomplishes is great ... when he was able to make fire, his situation improved ... able to cook those crabs and fish ... when he left the island was a shot in hell especially when he lost "Wilson", right there it seemed to he gave up until he saw the freighter with the help of his friend - that whale!
