PLOT: Obsessively punctual FedEx executive Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) is en route to an assignment in Malaysia when his plane crashes over the Pacific Ocean during a storm. I saw a man trying desperately to bring fire into his life. Failure meant his death, he bleeds and finds a friend. He changes the way he makes fire.
One of the best movies I've seen.

This film as young boy showed me to never give up
The scene where Hanks' character wakes up to the waves crashing into that large piece of outhouse.
He goes out and is scared of it at first, but props it up and stares at the Easter Island face on that large panel.
That face was telling him to get off the island and how he should do that. Cool scene. Like the volleyball face.
I was thinking during the academy awards that year, why Wilson came short of winning an oscar, for me it should have won it.
He is more worthy than will Smith

In order to successfully start a fire by rubbing sticks. One must first create an idol devoted to Wilson the Fire God otherwise it wont work.

@@setasan water is much more difficult in tropical settings but what he should have done was open up as many coconuts as he could and make them containers and then used the life raft as a rain water catchment. You see him doing this finally on the raft during a rain storm when he left the island. He never attempted to catch rain water when he first landed on the island.
The only other option was to hollow out a log creating a bowl and boil sea water via stone boiling. He could have used the life raft to catch the steam created from the boiling process with opened coconuts. Much more difficult but still he had all the resources to do it.
The air got to it.. THE AIR GOT TO IIIT!!! LOL

And he hesitated before blowing on it. You need to start lightly blowing right away to get it to catch.

I used a similar approach when i was a kid because i wasn’t allowed to play with matches, but no one told me that i couldn’t use pencils.

There's a funny conclusion, that much of what we do as humans, are only because of other people. Either for them, or in fear of them. Sometimes that's our strongest motivation. Else we'd live like animals and never try harder. Wilson may have been a facsimile of a person, but it gave him the motivation to try again.

I was a boy scout, I am in the military, and I have done campout in both places, the fire thing is so true, you light that fire with tools from mother nature or you bring something to let you handle mother nature and you are like yes, I did it. Just remember if you are in the field light can be seen by the enemy.
