I initially didn't appreciate Capaldi's Doctor. I think I was too young and wanted to be more like 11 and 10. Now I realize that Capaldi was truer to what the Doctor ought to be.
"Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind." Ever since I heard that line, I try harder to abide by it every day. This speech stood out to me so much because of it.
What i loved most about the 12th was he understood the darkness in his heart. All that anger and grief, he understood he was not a good person, yet he always tried to be a kind man.
I will always remember when The Doctor was Peter Capaldi. He was my Doctor, he was my professor, he was my warrior, he was my musician, he was my hero, & I didn't want him to go.
Peter Capaldi has been my favorite of the whole series, in any iteration. I'd put him right up there with Tom Baker with his ability to seem human enough to keep you off-guard while still being truly 'alien.' And of the modern series' Doctors, he's probably the biggest fan of the original series and it shows in how his performance blends elements of those earlier Doctors with the modern show's more action-adventure aesthetic. Nothing would make me happier than for him to start recording with Big Finish and do some multi-Doctor stories.
"Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. Doctor... I let you go." That moment even almost 5 years later, still kills me. Not only because my favorite Doctor was leaving, but because this line almost seemed to be breaking the fourth wall. It was as if Peter Capaldi himself, the lifelong Doctor Who fan, and former President of a Doctor Who Fan Club was saying goodbye to the character he'd dreamt of playing since he was a child. Similar sort of energy to David Tennant's "I don't wanna go."
I love this take, because it implies he was never talking to himself (Twelve) but was actually talking to all his other selves. (One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight War Nine Ten Eleven and maybe even Thirteen)
@@brentage5000, I'm pretty sure he was talking to thirteen. He says "you wait a moment Doctor - I've got a few things to say to you". Kinda sounds like he's telling his next incarnation to wait a bit, and let him talk to her, before he goes.

I was so skeptical in the beginning of Capaldi as The Doctor but I fell in love with him as he reminded me so much of my father. He was the defining definition of The Doctor
Having lost everyone who was dear to him, he decided to renounce his path. But having seen the smiles and tears of joy of those whom he saved / will save, he again decides to embark on a thorny path. So I'm writing a new story, a story about the Doctor.
The first and last we saw of the Twelfth Doctor were his eyes, and what an effect that was of his face changing. The speech was Moff leaving post-its on Chibnall's desk, a statement of who he believes the Doctor is and what they stand for, with dabs of Day of the Doctor and Human Nature thrown in.
Doctor: "Who are you?" Missy: "Missy. Short for Mistress. Well, I can't keep calling myself.... The Master.... can I?" My favorite moment of the Peter Capaldi era.
It's very telling of Capaldi's ability as an actor because he showed everybody every single time he was onscreen *why* The Doctor was his dream role. It's also ironic, when he was announced almost nobody was keen on seeing an older actor portraying The Doctor but by the end of his run *absolutely nobody* wanted him to go.
My absolute favorite doctor!! David Tennant was my favorite for a long time but shortly before season 10 aired I rewatched 8 and 9 and Capaldi is MY doctor! He brought something to the role to make him one of the best doctors the show has ever had

12 is the most overlooked doctor by certain “fans” of the show....had alot more depth and subtlety in the writing and acting that it could easily go unnoticed...easily the best of the modern era for me.
Tennant is the still the best Doctor for me and a lot of people, for a damn good reason. If Capaldi was that good, then why did the ratings plummet during his tenure as the 12th Doctor? I'll admit he's underrated, but definitely nowhere near the best of the modern era. Even Eccleston's short lived run as 9th Doctor leaves a more lasting impression.

12 was the first doctor who I was here for the beginning of. 11 I arrived to the show at the tail end of. Peter was a joy to watch. His more serious and dark take at first was refreshing after Matt's doctor. And even as the character mellowed out to become more kind to people he was still fun to watch. I'll miss his doctor a lot. And one day, i very much hope that one day he'll do some big finish audio dramas. I know he's said he's happy with where he left doctor who and that he has every right to just want to go on from it. But I can hope. Thank you, Mr. Capaldi. You are my Doctor
My Doctor. I have loved Doctor Who since I was a child, watching classic DW with my dad, but Peter Capaldid Doctor changed me. From bitter angry man, to kind gentle old rock star. I have "Laugh hard, run fast, be kind" tattooed on my forearm. A mantra to myself that no matter what happens, kindness wins. Will always always cry at his regeneration ❤️❤️🟦
When I finally started watching Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi was the Doctor. As I watched his stories, he became my Doctor. Everyone has their Doctor. The one who embodies everything they love about the character and makes their incarnation stand out among the rest. Twelve is that for me. He was and will always be my Doctor, no matter what anyone else says or who comes along after him. I couldn't have asked for a better Doctor to guide me through the series, and I couldn't have asked for a better ending to his legacy. Peter, you are the Doctor to me.
A solid choice for sure! I myself went back to the classics to watch it all chronologically. The first doctor became my doctor and it hasnt changed since
Great, now I'm crying. Thanks BBCDoctorWho. 12 was my Doctor. I may have grown up with 9, 10 and 11. But 12 grew with me. He was born for the role. Love you pcap
The "Let's do this right" feels like Capaldi read the first go of the script and just thought...No, let's punch this up. He IS a long time fan after all.
I remember watching this on Christmas five years ago and tomorrow on my birthday, I’ll be watching the 13th doctor regenerate, it’s crazy how time flies, but I’m so excited!!
I know a lot of female fans who identify with The Doctor, not with his female companions. It was a dream of so many people - to finally see The Doctor played by a woman. And Jodie Whittaker was brilliant, instantly recognisable as The Doctor, she did a great job... Too bad the writing was awful and the show went downhill because of it. This regeneration of The Doctor deserved so much better. My favourite eras remain Tennant and Capaldi.
"He's a comin." Other Doctors have commented on 'sensing' the change, and the new Doctor forming. McGann's Eight directly participates in forming it, Peter's new Twelve 'chose' a face to remind himself of his task. I like the through-line of the Doctors looking back over their lives and reminding themselves (their new selves) of their task, their nature and their goal. You get the impression that something like the Valeyard could be an artificial regeneration where that didn't happen, allowing all the Doctor's worst instincts into the fore. But Peter really nails this. He knows what's coming and steps into it with this lovely reminder of his life, his principles and greeting to his upcoming self, just as he personally lets go of a role he had wanted for so many years.
Honestly, I loved the 12th incarnation, Capaldi was my favorite doctor, i loved the way they styled his clothing and the interior, I absolutely loved his last 2 seasons.
Peter wasn’t my first Doctor. Matt Smith was. But 12 became MY Doctor. His charisma and older, wiser side made me fall in love with him. And as a musician myself, he was the rock n roll Doctor! 12’s TARDIS was my favorite too. A lot of his tenure showed his past selves from Classic Who and made me appreciate those Doctors. Above all else, 12 taught me this: To be kind.
Matt Smith was my favourite Doctor, when Peter Capaldi took over initially I was really sad and I cried during the regeneration, but with each episode his acting won my heart and then for the second time, I cried in this scene
Capaldi is my favourite modern who doctor While Colin Baker is my favourite Capaldi unlocked the Whovian part of my brain Good look everyone tomorrow We will either Introduce Ncuti Gatwa Or reintroduce David Tennant as the doctor
“ I suppose one more lifetime wouldn’t kill anyone. Well, except me. You wait a moment, Doctor. Let’s get it right. I’ve got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first. Kinda funny to me how the 13th Doctor went on to do the things 12 said not to. "Never be cruel." - removed the Master's perception filter, revealing his skin color to the Nazi's. "Never be cowardly." Literally doesn't argue or give a second thought to letting the old guy sacrifice himself to destroy Gallifrey and the Cyber-Lords. "And never, ever eat pears!" - Well... at least she listened to one thing he said!
I love how all the comments on the regeneration video are people saying "X doctor was my doctor and was the best". And although capaldi wasn't my doctor his regeneration was definitely the best in doctor who
Truly hope jodie is given the chance at a speech to giver her doctor a proper farewell. For all the faults and issues fans have had with her run as the doctor (not her fault directly) she deserves to give her doctor a proper goodbye and hand it to whoever is next David Tennant or Ncuti Gatwa.
One thing I noticed about this scene: The Doctor says that only children can hear his name, so does that mean that the "one time" he could have told River Song his name isn't when they were married, but rather when she was a child?
13 down last one to go tomorrow!
This still makes me cry. Of all the regenerations this hit me the most. Peter was my Doctor and this speech was perfect. 😥
My favorite regeneration. And she really was the kindest and further from anyone doctor (wouldn't tell anyone her "name") as he asked her to be.
Only just realising the "they'll get it all wrong without me" is lifted from Pertwee in the Five Doctors. Damn you Moffat!
easily my fav regeneration speech. capaldi definitely got it right this time.
+the reuse of Shepards Boy is brilliant, gives me chills every time
Peter will forever be my Doctor, he perfectly resembles everything good about every other version and is just a wonderful old madman
when you are old enough you understand the deep point of this
wdym
Capaldi made many great speeches trough his seasons, but that is the most memorable
0:39 The scene is already exciting on account of Capaldi, but Doctor Who's tracks always have the ability to improve a Moment of Regeneration
It’s funny how Moffat’s era started with The Doctor hanging on to the TARDIS for dear life and ended with The Doctor falling from the TARDIS.
One of my favourite regenerations.
I didn't hate Jodies era and will defend it...but honestly I have to say this was my favourite scene of hers :P
love how much the tardis talks in this
I remember watching this on Christmas five years ago and tomorrow on my birthday, I’ll be watching the 13th doctor regenerate, it’s crazy how time flies, but I’m so excited!!

That exterior shot of the TARDIS always looks so great imo. Visual Effects did a great job on that.
Love how the cloister bell rings to warn him not to regenerate inside the TARDIS, cool detail.
One of the best regenerations, and one of the best Doctors. Farewell 12.
After so many crashes, you'd think the Doctor would land the TARDIS before regenerating? Maybe even get out so it doesn't explode?
Every time that cloister bell rings… 🔔
Fantastic final speech from a fantastic Dcotor
"I know they'll get it all wrong without me." You were right Capaldi, Jodie & Chibnal completely got it wrong without you
but they didn't
Agreed. It’s been pretty unwatchable.
Peter has that emotions that was so heartfelt, goodbye Doctor..
Honestly, I loved the 12th incarnation, Capaldi was my favorite doctor, i loved the way they styled his clothing and the interior, I absolutely loved his last 2 seasons.
The last time we saw the Doctor. Cause these last years have been a weird fever dream of retcon that i will never recognize as DW
ok. but they're still canon. Whenever the show shows images of past doctors in the future, Jodie will be there
The TARDIS was making all that noise to try and tell the Doctor to take it outside before he destroys the console room again
I sobbed the day this aired and I still tear up now. Capaldi will always be my doctor.
Matt Smith was my favourite Doctor, when Peter Capaldi took over initially I was really sad and I cried during the regeneration, but with each episode his acting won my heart and then for the second time, I cried in this scene
Capaldi is my favourite modern who doctor
While Colin Baker is my favourite
Capaldi unlocked the Whovian part of my brain
Good look everyone tomorrow
We will either Introduce Ncuti Gatwa
Or reintroduce David Tennant as the doctor
I still miss him.
“ I suppose one more lifetime wouldn’t kill anyone. Well, except me. You wait a moment, Doctor. Let’s get it right. I’ve got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first. Never be cruel, never be cowardly... and never, ever eat pears! Remember...hate is always foolish...and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. Oh, and you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No one would understand it, anyway. Except... Except children. Children can hear it... sometimes... if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are, too. Children can hear your name. Agh! But nobody else. Nobody else, ever. Laugh hard...run fast... be kind. “
The doctor needs to stop regenerating in his ship. That can't be good for the warranty
It's already been confirmed 13th isn't regenerating in her TARDIS
This is it... tomorrow we'll see 13 regenerate, I'm not ready at all :(
But just like 12 told her to do - she didn't eat pears, she laughed hard, she ran fast and she was kind ❤
Really kind when she didn’t comfort graham over his cancer worries because the 2000 year old time lord was ‘socially awkward’
@@xx-footcmpsf.c3693 she listened to every word, but just didn't know what to say and that's to show that it's okay not knowing what to say, even listening can be enough
@@friendlyotaku9525 a weird characteristic for a character as developed and wise as the doctor
@@xx-footcmpsf.c3693 not at all, even the Doctor doesn't know what to say all the time
@@friendlyotaku9525 so did you enjoy that scene? Seeing that doctor as antisocial and unable to be a good friend? Is that the doctor that you enjoy watching
That ring drop....ouch. still hurts to see.
Feels like this was just yesterday, and now it's tomorrow!
Peter Capaldi, one of the absolute best from start to finish.
He is so underrated as a doctor
Kinda funny to me how the 13th Doctor went on to do the things 12 said not to.
"Never be cruel." - removed the Master's perception filter, revealing his skin color to the Nazi's.
"Never be cowardly." Literally doesn't argue or give a second thought to letting the old guy sacrifice himself to destroy Gallifrey and the Cyber-Lords.
"And never, ever eat pears!" - Well... at least she listened to one thing he said!
Dude he was my favorite doctor
I see you're uploading every regeneration of the new Who yeah
The 13th Doctor regeneration, we have been waiting for this moment.
I love how all the comments on the regeneration video are people saying "X doctor was my doctor and was the best". And although capaldi wasn't my doctor his regeneration was definitely the best in doctor who
"Hate is always foolish and love is always wise" - 12th Doctor, my Doctor ♥♥
and this was the beginning of the end for doctor who. its never been the same since
I remember having to go to work right after watching this i had tears in my eyes
Honestly not sure anyone will top him & it's all been downhill since. Really really sad he's not in the 60th/doesn't seem to want to come back.
probably the best new series regeneration, the music, the 12th doctor's acceptance to his end and his speech.
i wonder if 13's will top this.
That's Nearly 5 Years Ago...
It was the greatest farewell speech to him
Twelve was a great doctor, somewhat underrated.
13 down last one to go tomorrow!
Can't believe this episode is almost 5 years old, Capaldi was an amazing Doctor even then this episode gave us a lot to offer, not only it's the last Christmas special we ever had but the last time Murray Gold composed aswell as Steven Moffat's departure, I've seen many 12th Doctor episodes including Heaven Sent but this one by far reached its peak for Doctor Who, that's of course was shortly lived when Chibnall took over the show but pushing that aside I'm glad we'll see the end of his work tomorrow...
god, what an incredible regeneration scene for an incredible doctor!!
My favorite of the New Doctors
absolute legend
I dont think im ready for Jodie to leave tomorrow. Im ready for Chibs to leave, but not Jodie.
