Stun is not equal to immobilize. Not the same icon above their head either. You need to replace deep freeze with wizard meteor to get the immobilize effect. By your logic, freeze would also be immobilize, but that's not how it works. You maximize the damage output by using stun+freeze+immobilize by casting meteor first, TP (with sucking effect from unique) on meteor spot then nova. This will triple the effect of the aspect granting additional damage for each CC source.
Very fun. I started out with a sorc and decided to spec into blizzard and very quickly turned around a turned it into a blizzard/ice shards build. It has the same potential for dps while allowing me to keep my distance. I haven't gotten into the higher level dungeons as I just hit 50 and I'm missing quite a few legendaries that will put the whole build together but even now with subpar gear I was shredding. Even had a rogue compliment me cause he was amazed that I could keep up with him.
I just hit level 50 and swapped to this build for the Cathedral of Light dungeon. It still does high damage at 50, just not as sustainable as it could be with better aspects and paragon points. Its definitely better than the build I had before, I just find myself running around aimlessly to recover mana sometimes
Hard agree! The build I was coming from was definitely not as good at burst DPS, but that's just it - burst. A lot of the time I'm running around waiting for mana or cooldowns. Granted, I'm only level 42, and I'm also missing the Teleport pull + Crowd Control spread aspects, which I feel like is the glue that will bring this build together. I think I'll have to respec into my last build (Hydra + Blizzard + Frozen Orb) since the items I have work well with it for now... at least until I finish the campaign and get some better gear :P
Great build. Have been using arc lash up to level 49 and after completing campaign wanted to flip over to ice shards. Switched over to another ice shard build and was having mana issues. This corrected those issues at my level. Thanks!
Wonderful video mate. The fact that you're adding a lvl by lvl for the skill tree is just amazing. I watched many guides since i'm new and only a handful does it. Thank you very much :)
Lucky hit is amazing! I stack different lucky hit effects. Each has a separate chance to proc (you can trigger 2 or 3 on the same hit). The execute lucky hit eliminates a ton of trash mobs very quickly. Getting mana back on frozen enemies means each frost nova fills your mana to fill if there is a trash fight to keep you clearing. And ice shards is 5 separate hits. A 20% Chance means one of those will proc. This means ice shards on a frozen tanky mobs makes the ice shards almost free to cast. Plus it will ricochet to damage and eliminate the trash.
I was getting scared that I couldn't find any viable build for sorcerer, all "big" streamers play rogue, barb or druid. Thanks a lot for all the work and the guide! Cheers
Was running a slightly different build with no fire then switched to this build to try it and see if it was better. My last build kept me alive better and had better mana regen (almost never had to run around and wait for mana to regen). I hope this build works for you guys but I can't use this build anymore. Yea I have more barriers but I can't keep up the mana regen yet or the cooldown reduction for frost nova so I'm stuck running around waiting for mana. I'll be switching back to my old build. I’m using this build at level 53 and it’s fun but the sustain can be annoying. I have to build around mana management at the expense of damage. Still gets the job done as I explore nightmare.
Improve Lucky hit and use that item ability that makes your shards hit 3 times. Also with the ring of the mother+ the item ability that transmits freeze to enemies that aren't frozen yet, you can shoot like 15 times without depleting.
i am so confused how I am supposed to burn with this. I heard you say "we dont do this manually" and your basic attack isn't even hotkeyed, but I can't see where we get the ability for ice shard to burn - Edit: disregard. it looks like we enchant the firebolt to make other skills burn?
my amulet has +21% mana cost reduction, +3 ranks devouring blaze, +1 all defencives, and 12% CDR. i put the crit aspect on my amulet too. Or use a mana-related elixir all the time
I play something similar and I love it. Just throwing this out there. Until you have skills and fear that benefit from burning or fire it’s likely better to focus on cold damage. It’s a single stat that boosts everything except enchanted fireballs and hydra if you use that. But at low levels those account for very little damage.
Frozen and Stunned are NOT Immobilized and therefore not getting you that extra 75% crit damage. Also, At the top of the tree you don't put a point in Enhanced Firebolt since that literally does nothing...you put the 2nd point in Firebolt which increases its power as an enchantment.

the thing ive found with higher nightmare dungeons is not so much damage, trust me theres enough damage in this build, but survivability is abysmal, you'll be dying to white mobs at tier 60+ and it just doesn't work. I think you're a little confused on stun and immobilize. Stunning and immobilized are different buckets. this build should either get meteor or inferno because they provide immobilize, not teleport. So deep freeze is more used as a oh shit button in higher dungeons, getting meteor inferno or inferno will proc that immobilize which will increase our damage. Im only level 53 and tried to follow similar build to this but encountered mana issies so to solve this i took the frost ice bolt with glinting frost bolt for mana and then i also took blizzard with wizards blizzard for more mana management, my build still does insane dmg (not as much as this build as this in the video) but has more mana management for me. Once I have gotten higher level and better gears then I will switch to this build in the video but I found that slightly adjusting it for more early game/mid game was more helpful to me.
I've been trying ice shards from about L36-50 so far. Same mana issues for me and many others from comments I'm seeing, but I guess stat boosts and end game helps a lot for the streamers at L70+ who found the right gear. I also added frost bolt for the mana and added hydra. I usually run around and manually pull large mobs and mow them down since the large mobs make it much easier to keep mana up. Also to help with mana, I've been prioritizing items with low attack speed and higher dmg per hit like 2H staff, gloves with CC/CD instead of AS etc. Thankfully that rare elite in Fractured Peaks is farmable for the 2H staff.
My only question with Sorcerer is which weapon is the best to use? I've been seeing a lot of people using the wand and focus combo. I've personally been using the staffs but is the wand and focus option better??
@@EldenLord84 Thanks. I hate the fact a lot of these builds are all dependant on which items and affixes you have. I haven't seen one that's good for people who don't have any of these uniques or affixes.
Very interesting build, thanks! I just tried it out, but finding I'm still mana-starved more often than not. It happens more often when there's just the usual yard trash around. If I can kite and get many mobs together, like in a dungeon or an event, then teleport into the middle it works way better. Unfortunately, I'm still relatively low level (52) at T2 and don't have god-level gear yet like you to suck the mobs all together, etc. so distance mobs still can pick my health down. I need to get more aspects, better gear, and get more experience with this build, but it seems very promising.
That is my problem trying this build. I'm same level 52@T2. I become mana starved after 4-5 shots and my teleport to the center mass of mobs doesn't seem to pull them in like I see in this video. Guess that comes down to gear eh?
@@tsarrite Yeah, he mentions in the video that the key to that is a unique chest piece called "Raiment of the Infinite" you gotta farm for. You can look it up, but basically, after you teleport, enemies are sucked in close and stunned. I start by teleporting in, Ice Shard til mana depleted (doesn't take long) then pop off Avalanche to protect me and refill mana. That usually enables me to finish off most of the rest of the mobs. If needed, I'll pop off Flame Shield and kite til my cooldowns and mana refill. It's not great, but it'll have to do til I get better gear, etc. I finished the T2 capstone dungeon last night and started in T3. I'm pretty squishy at the moment with my old gear, but new, way better armor and weapons are starting to drop. I'm still liking this build, but looking forward to getting gear that buffs and recovers mana, that'll make the biggest difference. But wow, you can kill many things fast with this build!
I played arc lash from 1-63 as soon as I switched to ice shards I felt actually like I could play the game again. Arc lash fell off around 50 so it was a hella grind to 63. Now I can run dungeons 20 levels higher than me if I wanted easy.
Is the ice shards build good enough without all the specific gear shown in the video? I'm at 56 on arc lash still and I don't have a ton of trouble but I definitely dont feel powerful
I'm killing everything in seconds with the arc lash build. Your gear has to support your build, or it will be a struggle. Ice shards look cool, but I'm sticking with arc lash for now. Great video through!
@@brettberry9846 ive been running a similar build to in the video (im lvl 59) and ive gotten fairly lucky i think with substats and such but it definitely works, the main thing is working around not having the chest piece with the teleport stun which definitely is not a must
Best way to tell if a build is the best is do higher tier nm. I noticed enemies are your level. I'm using maxrolls ice shards build at lvl 87 killing level 98 mobs with ease. Great build as long as you're not running out of mana constantly
Ngl I was getting legendaries and I used the generic ice shard and I was melting everything. I didn’t know I had all the suggested legendaries effects on the legendaries I got that day
I have a similar build at level 60 now, trying to solve the mana problem. I tried to go with killing burning enemies increases mana regen by 10-30% , I still run into mana issues so finding good gear is essential. I also switched to the ice shards that turns an enemy into a vulnerable one . When barriers drop I feel really squishy atm.
I solve mana problem by use aspect +1 avalance key and increase lucky hit chance then u can free cast ice shard 2 times almost times. And combo with Unique frostburn glove u can get some of mana when u cast spell. Enjoy
So many builds to sorc these days requires that unique chest armor, It never dropped for me. Any suggestions to farm it? I kill things slow in tier 4, fast in T3.
I switched to this build and I am absolutely loving it! I don't even have the unique chest yet and I can still light up mobs super easily. Question about equipment: Since the amulet aspect gets 50% inc. effect, I feel like that slot is super important. I currently have max roll inc. damage with barrier active on it. But I'm thinking maybe the critical strike chance above 100 mana might be better, or maybe the armor one as you do. My armor increase % is on my pants and the critical strike chance is on my gloves. Should I switch the amulet to have one of those other two instead? Thanks!
once u get enough mana regen/mana cost reduction/resource generation/lucky hit-mana, you can possibly switch to Esu's Ferocity, and use the Aspect that gives you 30-50% attack speed(up to 100% on 2h). i havent accomplished that yet, but i think its possible
@@wilmaso if you have enough MCR, RG, and lucky hit mana, you can put the Esu'a Ferocity aspect on your amulet or 2h wep, and it can give +100% attack speed, but you better have amazing mana reduction and return to feed it.
At 8:25 you say you set things on fire with ice shards (using as an enchant), but ice shards doesn't set things on fire when used as an enchant (it shoots ice shards at frozen enemies - no mention of burning)......not sure what you mean here?

looking at your paragon board is there a reason for selecting the legendary node (elemental summoner) when you havent selected an conjuration skills or have them equipped? not having a go at you actually curious if there is some hidden synergy that is secretly buffing damage / survivability
I do have a question that move you have with right click it doesn’t work for me. I use it and t just stops I don’t get that full use like you do. What am I doing wrong
If you're gonna spend 2 points in firebolt and the followup, for the tiny inkling of improvement, i'd say just put 2 points on the skill itself to make the burn a hair stronger. Ofc 99% of your damage is not burn, but damage is damage imo.
So you don't put your basic attack on the skill bar? What happens if you run out of mana? So your "basic" attack is Ice Shards then? Sometimes I have to use my basic attack to get mana back quickly.
Yeah I am also wondering. He does not use basic attack - Fire Bolt on the skill bar. And yet he suggests use enchantment slot for Ice Shards and Fire Bolt. Am I missing something?
@@ondrejkozeluh5963 So using the Fire Bolt as your enchantment allows you apply more burning to enemies when using skills. It seems a lot of Sorcs say this is a requirement to have Fire Bolt as an enchanted slot for end game builds. But I just haven't gotten to the point where I can skip over using the basic skill just to get some mana back. I may just suck at mana management though...lol

You can get huge cooldown reduction on a focus, which makes it better for basically every Sorc build. You cannot roll cooldown reduction on a staff.
@@EldenLord84 Thanks. I hate the fact a lot of these builds are all dependant on which items and affixes you have. I haven't seen one that's good for people who don't have any of these uniques or affixes.
@@genuinejustin6269 Yeah every build in the game is somewhat gear dependent for sure. I think that’s by design.
How to make a ice skill do burning damage in a passive way? This is only 1 thing I dont undsrstand in this build :)
@@tsarrite use the evade, to get close and freeze quicky while you get the aspect lol
Amulet of piercing cold was a game changer
Great build! Quick question. Which enchantment do we go with at level 15? Firebolt or Fireball?
@@jjrrll not sure what you mean? I'm currently using fire bolt as my first enchantment?
ice shards
Earned a follower. Your Website description is brilliant. Well done man
Nice vid bro. The only thing I didn’t grasp was how to (like you said) enchant to put enemies on fire to make the passive (devouring blaze) active.
What’s the enchantments?
how is this build after the patch? are the other builds better now?
Single target this build is a pain in the ass... Takes forever to kill bosses... How can I improve my gear to be efficient at bosses too?
I played arc lash from 1-63 as soon as I switched to ice shards I felt actually like I could play the game again. Arc lash fell off around 50 so it was a hella grind to 63. Now I can run dungeons 20 levels higher than me if I wanted easy.
Is the ice shards build good enough without all the specific gear shown in the video? I'm at 56 on arc lash still and I don't have a ton of trouble but I definitely dont feel powerful
@@brettberry9846Im waiting on this exact same answer, though Im sure the gear is needed for the build to work so, Im not getting my hopes up!
I'm killing everything in seconds with the arc lash build. Your gear has to support your build, or it will be a struggle. Ice shards look cool, but I'm sticking with arc lash for now. Great video through!
Oh, I'm lvl 56 as well. I'm cruising through T3 so far. I love having more than one viable and fun build for my class. It keeps things interesting.
Use cc enemys gives primary resource aspect
I solve mana problem by use aspect +1 avalance key and increase lucky hit chance then u can free cast ice shard 2 times almost times. And combo with Unique frostburn glove u can get some of mana when u cast spell. Enjoy
Also this the first video of yours I watched and I'm definitely subscribing
How gear dependent is this build and what is the minimum level requirement?
Master at Work. Thanks Ghost!
Can somebody please explain 8:30 to me? How does enhanced ice shards apply burn passively?
Been farming that chest piece for a week now
oh, glad too see you in Diablo Lucky (coming fromeso). Looking forwards too more vid
How does ricochet combine with Pierce?
Does it just ricochet or does it spawn another shard and one goes straight and another ricochets?
wouldn't destructive I've shards be better?
I might be late to the party but thank you so much ❤ this is very helpful and informative great build and nice video, keep the good work
So many builds to sorc these days requires that unique chest armor, It never dropped for me. Any suggestions to farm it? I kill things slow in tier 4, fast in T3.
Very impressive guide with superior explanation on why and how to do it (aka perform). Thank you, I subscribed!
Why, is that aspect good??.
@@wilmaso if you have enough MCR, RG, and lucky hit mana, you can put the Esu'a Ferocity aspect on your amulet or 2h wep, and it can give +100% attack speed, but you better have amazing mana reduction and return to feed it.
At 8:25 you say you set things on fire with ice shards (using as an enchant), but ice shards doesn't set things on fire when used as an enchant (it shoots ice shards at frozen enemies - no mention of burning)......not sure what you mean here?
firebolt is slotted as the other enchant, everything we touch is burning as a result, cheers! check out written guide, it has all this info and more
Awesome guide and write up!!
is avalanche key aspect any good and if yes what would you replace on your build to use that?
Only thing I do differently is take out the ulti and add meteor for the immobilize. It’s a lot of fun to cast meteor and then pull everything into it
“Maybe a day or two” I spent a week and a half farming for that chest piece 😭🤣
Your vid helped me. I don't have your exact build but it's close enough. I'm learning alot about the game. It's a real grind but so much fun. Best investment I've made in years. Thks.
Liked and subscribed👍🏻
I only played D3 so I’m a little new to some of this. Most build videos assume the viewer has a deep knowledge of the game/games. This video was clear and the build was explained very well. Thank you for your content
awesome video, guide, and build!!!! You've got my sub!
I have been farming that chest for days so it is quite unique
Where do you farm for this chest
How do you set Ice Shards as an enchant to apply devouring blaze?
fire bolt grabbed first, but isn't used in the video?. Does it have a passive effect just having a point in it?
wouldn't you better served putting an extra point in firebolt instead of grabbing enhanced? It increases the passive fire damage from the enhance.
looking at your paragon board is there a reason for selecting the legendary node (elemental summoner) when you havent selected an conjuration skills or have them equipped? not having a go at you actually curious if there is some hidden synergy that is secretly buffing damage / survivability
Thanks brotha.. im pretty new to diablo.. i'm overwhelmed!!! lol this is a great video- im currently level 23 just trying to freeze some packs!!
What was the highest tier what you've been able to clear with this build?
I do have a question that move you have with right click it doesn’t work for me. I use it and t just stops I don’t get that full use like you do. What am I doing wrong
If you're gonna spend 2 points in firebolt and the followup, for the tiny inkling of improvement, i'd say just put 2 points on the skill itself to make the burn a hair stronger. Ofc 99% of your damage is not burn, but damage is damage imo.
What substats do I look for? I’m not sure if you mentioned them in the video.
Great video. Everything explained, 10 out of 10
How do I make ice shards burn ?
Anyone know where the written guide is? Page link doesn’t seem to work
So you don't put your basic attack on the skill bar?
@@Fourth81 Yes I found out after rewatching video. However as a sorcerer level 44 I have also prohlems with running out of mana. Many fellow players suggest having proper gear which helps with mana. So maybe I will look into it and share some information if I found out.
